  1. I was, of course, watching the Bulls game. I caught the first two innings or so. Dunn struck out 4 times? Good god he sucks.
  2. QUOTE (Quinarvy @ May 27, 2011 -> 12:28 AM) This. Bulls need to get Iguodala or Howard. f*** it. Get both. I'm sure its possible. Howard? Be quiet. Can't mess with team chemistry.
  3. There's a lot of things I can point to (basically we got screwed), but the Heat won. Whatever, I expected them to win. I totally expect the Heat to win the title and go on a run. That doesn't mean we can't counter. Front office is going to have to get creative, though.
  4. Props to the Bulls so far. They're showing a lot of heart.
  5. QUOTE (fathom @ May 26, 2011 -> 08:03 PM) Another fantastic start by Humber. I can't even hate on his ass. Why can't we do this with position players who can impact the game every day?
  6. QUOTE (Quinarvy @ May 26, 2011 -> 08:01 PM) The high school thing? You said #2 HS prospect, right?
  7. QUOTE (Quinarvy @ May 26, 2011 -> 07:56 PM) Its so weird, they've played each other since high school, we're #1 and #2 HS prospects, play the same position, same age, yet this year couldn't be more different in their game styles and personalities. Also, they wear the same number, just flipped upside down. Deng, the LeAnti-Bron. Really? I didn't know that about Deng.
  8. QUOTE (Quinarvy @ May 26, 2011 -> 07:52 PM) Deng just posterized LeBron. That was indeed nice.
  9. QUOTE (iamshack @ May 26, 2011 -> 07:21 PM) He'll get going a little better on the basepaths, and he will remember how to catch the ball. As much as people want to b**** about Juan, he's not really going to be the problem with this team... It's going to come down to whether Dunn/Rios/Quentin hit like they are capable of hitting. You sound like Ranger. JP sucks. He might spit out some weak singles and get his average up. But he's not good.
  10. QUOTE (Rowand44 @ May 26, 2011 -> 06:22 PM) Speaking of, remind me to start buying some Phillies gear because the Heat, Canucks and Red Sox all winning a championship in the same year is too much for me. Hockey is a joke of a sport and doesn't exist to me. But I understand what you're saying.
  11. QUOTE (PlaySumFnJurny @ May 26, 2011 -> 04:37 PM) Boston put up 14 runs again today. Their talent has taken over. I was laughing when dumb Red Sox fans were acting like, well, we do.
  12. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ May 26, 2011 -> 03:46 PM) Admittedly I haven't watched the Heat against Philly or Boston but looking at the box scores it looks like Lebron and company were equally as stifling. That's the thing. No non-Heat fan or bandwagoner watches them every night. This D didn't come from nowhere.
  13. QUOTE (RockRaines @ May 26, 2011 -> 03:05 PM) Wings that can play in the post are a huge mismatch. Jordan was so great as he aged because he implemented a post game against smaller guards. The rules in the post favor the offensive player more now than before, so not sure how it changed to support your point. But back then you could physically manhandle perimeter players. Joe Dumars wasn't a great defender because of his athletic ability. Could LeBron go down low more? Maybe. But it's really not an issue. Not at this stage in his career when he's in his athletic prime.
  14. QUOTE (Jenksy Cat @ May 26, 2011 -> 02:58 PM) I really do wonder what he does in the off season. Been in the league 8 years and has 0 post game. He's bigger, stronger and faster than 99% of the people who can even consider guarding him...and he has no post game. Makes 0 sense, or really makes 100% sense that he doesn't reaaaaalllly give a s*** as long as he gets to play house with his buddies. Who really cares about a post game? The game has changed. He doesn't need a post game. He won two MVPs (would've won a third this year if everybody didn't hate him) doing exactly what he does. The NBA manipulated the rules to favor wings/guards and the best player in the league has taken advantage. If this was 1998 I'd probably agree.
  15. QUOTE (Steve9347 @ May 26, 2011 -> 02:49 PM) Seriously, man, the Heat had stretches where it was evident their work ethic wasn't at 100%. The Bulls spent all year running and playing big minutes and Thibs losing his s*** on the sidelines. The Bulls are the quintessential "high-effort" team, and it showed when they used that effort to sweep the Heat in the regular season. I guess will agree to disagree. I guess it's Aaron Rowand syndrome. Talented guys aren't trying as hard because they're talented. And guys not as talented try harder because they're not as talented. That's always irked me.
  16. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ May 26, 2011 -> 02:46 PM) The Bulls were the harder working team this season. There are no if's, and's or but's about it. You (and I for that matter) don't have the authority to claim this. We both obviously watch the Bulls A LOT more than any other team. And the Bulls simply aren't as talented. Even all the s*** I talked last summer, I knew the Heat were going to go through that adjustment faze. Two Jordan's on the same team are going to need some time to gel. QUOTE (StrangeSox @ May 26, 2011 -> 02:48 PM) The Bulls played all-out pretty much all year. The Heat did not. Bosh took games off. Lebron's never been known as an excessively hard-worker (he'd be completely unstoppable if he was one of the most dedicated guys). LeBron is not unstoppable now? How good is he supposed to get?
  17. QUOTE (Steve9347 @ May 26, 2011 -> 02:42 PM) Wow. How often did we see the Heat getting beat by above .500 teams this year? In retrospect, they were still learning to play together and blah blah, but they looked flat out lazy and over-matched against good, deep teams for the better part of an 82 game schedule. Poor shot selection seemed to be dooming them against teams that made them work. If you don't agree with this you either watched nothing in the regular season (I know that's not true) or have very short-term, selective memory. What I'm saying is why are the Bulls supposed to be a harder working team? The Heat had their issues earlier. But it wasn't because of lack of work ethic. It's all about expectations. The Heat were supposed to win 75 games. They didn't. So they weren't trying?
  18. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ May 26, 2011 -> 02:31 PM) 5th out of 30 isn't elite, that is good. The D in this series has been elite, as in the best. Then what is elite? You have to be first? Whatever. They were a really good defensive team all year. Scoring typically goes down in the playoffs, anyway. So that's not shocking. I get what you're saying. I'm just not in amazement that their D has been so good. And the Bulls lack of consistent offensive options certainly doesn't help matters. They won't look this good against Dallas. I can promise you that.
  19. QUOTE (Steve9347 @ May 26, 2011 -> 02:29 PM) Their effort is what has surprised me. I never expected them to match the Bulls in work ethic. I don't understand this. And you're not the only person that says this. Because their three best players are superstars they're less inclined to try as hard as a bunch of roleplayers? Jordan, Pippen and Rodman ring a bell? LeBron's d has infinitely improved over the last few years. Wade has always been a good defensive player. Bosh played for a s***ty Toronto team. So nobody noticed his defensive abilities (think Ron Harper when he was with the Clippers).
  20. QUOTE (Harry Chappas @ May 26, 2011 -> 11:17 AM) The White Sox are fine and need not worry about the standings. Carlos Santana is doing about as well as Beckham. 4-5 or 5-4 and they are set up well for the summer. Should the offense wake up, they will be just fine. The thing that separates Santana and Beckham is Santana's unusual plate discipline for a young player. His BB/K rate is still about 1/1. He's not a .200 hitter. Trust me. Beckham? I don't know what the hell he is.
  21. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ May 26, 2011 -> 02:16 PM) I hate to have to agree with the Republican here, but if the advanced metrics are saying that nothing much has changed about Miami's defense in the playoffs, then I'm never citing an advanced metric again. You're going overboard over 4 games. The stats say they've been pretty good all year. Defensive efficiency is a much better measure for overall team defense because it takes pace into account. And as Badger said, they were 5th.
  22. QUOTE (Milkman delivers @ May 26, 2011 -> 01:45 PM) I honestly don't believe Jordan Danks will ever cut it on this team. He'll get his shot, but I'm sure it won't last. I'm pretty confident that he was only drafted and continues to get the push he's receiving because of his brother. Once John is gone and they are forced to accept the fact that Jordan is no longer of any use at all, he'll be gone. They need to trade him last week if possible and get something of consequence. The power numbers have been encouraging so far. I think he's slugging over .500. Hopefully some GM looks at that and ignores the disgusting K-rate and offers something up.
  23. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ May 26, 2011 -> 01:44 PM) Miami's defense has been the thing that shocked me about this series. It has been other-worldly this series. I don't know how Spoo got them to buy into it, but it is working. I know you're not a huge stats guy. But they didn't lie. Miami has been elite on defense all year. Not just this series.
  24. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ May 26, 2011 -> 01:36 PM) This entire prediction/estimation talk is based strictly in a vacuum assuming NOTHING changes for the foreseeable future, including a major injury to any on of the Big 3 in Miami and including any free agent moves or trades. It is bulls***. Just the same as the talk early this season that the Heat were going to not only tie, but SHATTER the bulls 72-10 mark. And lets not forget here, the Bulls also have "been together for like 5 minutes" and their record went +20 in the win column. And the Heat havent even won the title this season I can't predict injuries. Rose could get decapitated tonight and Steve would end his life. I don't know. I know that any player(s) can get hurt. And I don't mean to ride Balta's coattails, but like he said, the Heat, like the Bulls and other teams, will have the ability to improve their supporting cast. They basically piecemealed it this year and here they are. And I never said the Heat were a lock to win the title. At least not since last July when I was on emotional overload because I obviously wanted 'Bron and Bosh, not Boozer and Watson.
