  1. QUOTE (Soxbadger @ Apr 22, 2011 -> 01:37 PM) Didnt Lebron win the MVP last year? Correct me if Im wrong but MVP is a year by year award, not career award?? Huh? What are you talking about? You imply that if Nash had to shoot/score as much as Rose does that his efficiency wouldn't be as high. I reference LeBron and Wade and you offer, like, nothing.
  2. QUOTE (Soxbadger @ Apr 22, 2011 -> 01:33 PM) If Lebron and Wade werent on the same team, Id definitely say that those 2 should be in the equation for MVP. But how can I argue they are better than Rose, when they are on the same team and their team lost more games than Roses, which doesnt have 2 amazingly "efficient" players. What is the point of the stat if it doesnt equate to wins? What about prior to this year? Wade and LeBron from an efficiency standpoint have had multiple years that rival Jordan.
  3. QUOTE (Soxbadger @ Apr 22, 2011 -> 01:22 PM) Steve Nash has never averaged more than 20 points per game, how can you even argue how efficient he would be if he had to score 25 like Rose? They play different games, the only way you can really judge is by watching the games. I just have a feeling that Rose would be a lot more efficient if he had some one named Dirk who can shoot, than say Noah who is worthless on offense. OK, so what about LeBron and Wade? Rose doesn't sniff their efficiency and they both take a lot of shots and have to score a lot of points.
  4. QUOTE (greg775 @ Apr 22, 2011 -> 01:05 PM) Didn't Beckham get off to a great start the first handful of games? Joe Torre once said when players are struggling, their confidence is shot and they can't buy a hit. When they are going great, after a certain period of time then get too anxious in the box and finally redevelop bad habits. The key is maintaining an even keel and many can't do it. That' why you fail 7 of 10 at bats and are still a good hitter if you do so. I'm going to wait a while longer. But at some point you might have to come to the realization that he might not be as good as we had originally thought. He was supposed to be as rock-solid a prospect as we've had since Hurt. It's not like Beckham is the only highly regarded prospect that's been up and down (more down) initially. Guys like Matt Wieters and Justin Smoak have certainly had their struggles. Then guys like Posey, Heyward and McCutchen hit the bigs and kick ass right away and never stop.
  5. QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Apr 22, 2011 -> 01:10 PM) If Rose were as efficient as Nash, he's averaging well over 30 points a game. Wait, so you mean he's not the perfect player? That he is lacking in certain areas? Well good god damn. And I'm not being condescending towards you, Q. You and lostfan off the top of my head are pretty sound when it comes to Rose. It's a shame. I feel like a Rose hater when I'm not.
  6. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Apr 22, 2011 -> 09:27 AM) He doesn't really. He offers up fantasy basketball analysis. He offers nothing about how the game is actually played. No. Just because some dismiss statistical analysis as crap doesn't mean it's of no importance. I guarantee you if Rose was as efficient as Nash or Paul that EVERYBODY would be on it. But since he's not, all we get is, "Well, I watch every single minute of every single game," to hell with stats. I don't think stats are everything. But to completely dismiss them is ludicrous.
  7. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Apr 22, 2011 -> 12:10 PM) Well certainly, but it's becoming more and more apparent to me that the single biggest issue for these multitool players is strikeouts. You can look at it in more detail by going to K/BB ratios or things that might make up for some of the K's like defense...but the K's are unavoidable. I spent a while looking at the numbers of guys like Grady Sizemore, Granderson, BJ Upton, a few years ago when I was trying to figure out what, if anything, D2 needed to do to become a legit player, and it was obvious pretty quick that these toolsy OF's who are striking out 130+ times a year just can't put up better numbers over a career. They don't hit 40 HR, so if they're striking out 130-150 times a year, the only way they can push an average close to .300 is with a huge BABIP increase. BJ upton had one of those in his great season, but he's never replicated it. If a guy is striking out 150 times a year, he can be a very good player, but he always has an upper limit. D2 is stuck in that boat. He doesn't have the raw tools/power of Sizemore or Granderson, but he has their strikeouts, and unless he cuts back on those, he'll get no where. Mitchell might have the raw tools of the other guys, but if he's in the 150 K range, we're going to hate him. Excellent post. Danks is toast. He's a nothing prospect as far as I'm concerned. Mitchell is still legitimate to me.
  8. QUOTE (Rowand44 @ Apr 22, 2011 -> 12:41 PM) He's saying we would have only been better off getting rid of Beckham if we got a player like Rickie Weeks back in return. Ahhhh. Makes sense.
  9. QUOTE (Rowand44 @ Apr 22, 2011 -> 12:39 PM) Not happening. As in the Yankees would never trade Montero? I don't think anybody in their system is off limits with their starting pitching situation. Nothing will happen this year (unless the Sox really stink up the joint). If KW could get Montero and one of Betances/Banuelos (and I would accept no less for a pitcher of Danks' caliber), I'd praise him like I do Cargo.
  10. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Apr 22, 2011 -> 10:47 AM) Sure. If the Brewers would have offered Rickie Weeks for Beckham. Wait, I don't get it? Weeks is a Brewer. Getz is a Royal.
  11. QUOTE (almagest @ Apr 22, 2011 -> 11:45 AM) Yes. Yes we could. And we'd be the only franchise to trade players, and fire the entire coaching staff after a 3 game losing streak. I know you're trying to be funny. But it really is amazing to me that some act like it's ONLY White Sox fans that go nutzoid when the team is struggling. Check out a Red Sox message board after a 4-game losing streak. You'd be stunned.
  12. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Apr 22, 2011 -> 12:20 PM) He won't give the contract, which is why I believe John is gone. Jesus Montero! Make it happen, KW!
  13. QUOTE (T R U @ Apr 22, 2011 -> 02:32 AM) So if its too early to judge Daniel Hudson on his 33-35 starts, how come you are flying off the handle about our 7 game losing streak into a 162 game season? Is it not pretty much the same thing? Wait, what? Show me a post where I declared the season over. Yeah, I've been critical. But never have I deemed the season over. BOS waited until Hudson had one bad start to create this thread. Basically with the intention to mock those that weren't in favor of the Hudson/Jackson trade. Should I start a thread the next time Jackson gives up 5-6 runs in 4 innings? QUOTE (gatnom @ Apr 22, 2011 -> 04:31 AM) I'm not going to speak for J4L (though I think he's actually been one of the more "optimistic" people around here), but the vast majority of Dan Hudson's starts have been pretty damn good. It's just the small sample size this season that hasn't been good. Also, I love how the op manages to both misunderstand the argument against the Hudson/Jackson trade and then use a small sample size to prove his point. But, we all know the arguments, and it's unfortunate that it had to be brought up again in some sort of childish I was right and you were wrong post meant to stir the pot. lol. I'm glad somebody notices this. I haven't been nearly as bad as Milkman, Sqwert and others. s***, greg has been worse. Though I will release my rage (in a clean way, of course) if a month from now we're sitting at 3-5 games below .500 or worse. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Apr 22, 2011 -> 05:32 AM) Yet if it were any pitcher you didn't like, Hudson's current stats would be proof he is garbage. The way Hudson was written about since the Jackson trade, you would think he couldn't lose 4 games in his career. That's your misconception. Don't put that on me. And it's not about me "liking" Hudson or not. I've been consistent from day one (though I will concede that I obsess) with my stance on the trade from the moment it went down. Google the thread if you don't believe me.
  14. QUOTE (whitesoxfan99 @ Apr 21, 2011 -> 11:10 PM) I don't think you got the point of that post at all. It is ridiculous to base an argument of who is a better player based on being in the "MVP discussion." Ahhh. My fault.
  15. QUOTE (lostfan @ Apr 21, 2011 -> 10:53 PM) oh, this lol. He started it. So I have to offer a rebuttal. If this thread goes 15 pages it's not my fault. First of all, why do you (not you lost) wait until he has a terrible start against an elite offense to make this thread? Hudson's ERA was 4.26 coming into today. Is that great? No. But we're still in the early stages of the season where one good game or bad game can drastically alter a pitcher's ERA. And for the love of the devil...Who has ever said that Hudson was great? Or that he's a HOF? Or that he's the next Greg Maddux? s*** is so annoying. My beef has always been giving up on a cheap/controllable starter for a guy that's a bigger name but not a better pitcher, whom there's a good chance of losing at the end of this year. Why is this so hard to comprehend? If we were the Braves and had 3-4 ready or damn near ready starting pitchers on the brink of the big leagues this wouldn't be a big deal. But the Braves we are not.
  16. QUOTE (whitesoxfan99 @ Apr 21, 2011 -> 10:54 PM) Steve Nash won two MVPs. In neither season was he the best player in the league or even close to the MVP. Lol. If you say so. You don't have to be the best player to win the MVP. If that's the case then give it to LeBron. And please for the love of the devil don't tell me you think Rose is or has had a better year than LeBron.
  17. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Apr 21, 2011 -> 10:35 PM) Lol, yes it's legitimate that someone who hates the bulls would not like their best player. But arguing that a guy who isn't even in the MVP conversation is better than the 22 year old clear favorite is moronic. Who gives a s*** if he hates the Bulls? He gives Rose his due. But just because he doesn't jam a Rose dildo up his ass doesn't mean he's a haterr. Is Rose the MVP? Yes. But he's hasn't had the greatest non Jordan year of all time. Nash's MVP years were better as were Paul's seasons before the injuries came into play. Does this make me a Rose hater? Oh f***ing well. Paul didn't just get worse at basketball. He's f***ing 25. If he'd rather have Paul, so what?
  18. QUOTE (Rowand44 @ Apr 21, 2011 -> 10:30 PM) Do you really think you should be the one calling people out in this thread? Actually, yeah. If you don't agree with somebody fine. But people have been getting on Felix all year for dumb s***. He's obviously not a bandwagoner, as he's a Wolves fan. Anytime he gave Kevin Love justifiable praise multiple people would jump on him. He never said the dude was prime Tim Duncan. Just that he's a fabulous player. And he is. Rose is not prime Jordan. He's really f***ing good. And I think he'll get better. But the slurping is just over the top now. I'm actually more impressed with Luol Deng. He's been amazing all year. And I used to hate the guy.
  19. QUOTE (flavum @ Apr 21, 2011 -> 10:21 PM) I don't think anyone had Hudson headed to the Hall of Fame, or even the top of anyone's rotation. I think some people think it was a stupid trade for the long run, and it certainly can turn out ot be a bad trade if the Sox don't make the playoffs with Edwin Jackson in their rotation, while Hudson could be a productive starter for fairly cheap over the next five years. I've always been a Jackson fan. I loved the trade.
  20. Felix > this thread I'm sorry. He offers up legitimate analysis. The Rose homerism around here is nearing realgm status. The dude is f***ing awesome. Felix has admitted this. He's a fool because he'd rather have Paul? I don't think so.
  21. Missed this one. I can't offer any analysis. But it appears we thoroughly dominated. I want like 6 more of these before the end of the month.
  22. I was at a sports pub and some drunk guy said Rose just "borked" the pacers again. I was literally rofl.
  23. Mental rest my bottom. He's getting a timeout for playing bad baseball.
  24. I have no idea why I can't stay out of this thread. But I really want Dan Haren. Even a C+ farm and he could've been had.
  25. QUOTE (Brian @ Apr 21, 2011 -> 06:09 AM) Are the Angels doing a 4 man rotation? The fact he will probably 6-0 in April is absurd. This was a good question. Their 4-5 starters have made 2 starts a piece. Kazmir made one start before going on the DL. I guess they've taken advantage of their off days. Regardless, Weaver/Haren is by far the best 1-2 punch in the AL. Dumbass Dbacks.
