  1. QUOTE (Springfield SoxFan @ Dec 26, 2010 -> 07:10 PM) There are still some solid options out there for bullpen help, I realize some of them might be out of KW's budget, but Soriano, Gregg, Romero etc.........I think another move is still coming. I hope not. I really don't want to get locked into another multi-year contract with a reliever. I'm content with saving some coin and going with somebody from the [gulp] farm.
  2. Give LeBron the MVP. I despise him. But I watched some of the Wolves/Cavs game. Good god is that team awful. There's not a single player on that roster that commands even a sporadic double team. They're dead last or close to it in every major offensive category. I can't remember a team being exposed to this degree after losing their star player.
  3. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Dec 26, 2010 -> 07:23 PM) I think Viciedo to the OF is very, very possible. Pierre is a free agent after this season, so there's one spot; Quentin is going to be quite expensive next season, so unless he shows that he can be semi-capable defensively and show a bit more consistency (Joe Morgan quality analysis right there), he's going to be gone too, so that's 2 spots. The Sox don't exactly have any outfielders knocking on the doors either. Morel looks like he could be great defensively and solid offensively, so you are going to want that glove remaining in the infield. And, until a huge hole comes up and rears its ugly head, Viciedo isn't going to go in any deals either, as this team is pretty solid up and down right now. They won't deal Viciedo for a bench player and, if they trade him for a reliever, they damn well better be getting a top 5 reliever in the game. That leaves starting pitching and anywhere else offensively, and Viciedo can (probably) fill about 5 of those spots, so you are basically looking at an injury up the middle or to the rotation if they are to trade Viciedo. Joakim Soria popped into my head as I read that. Unfortunately, the Royals have Moustakas on the cusp. But Vicedo could intrigue them if he proves he can cut it in the OF. Of course we'd have to add more. Soria might be the most underrated player in baseball. When you really break it down, Soria has been just a tick, and I mean TICK, below Rivera the last three years. Awesome pitcher.
  4. All I know is we better get a good piece back if we trade Dayan. The bat is real. I'm sick of this organization mishandling young talent.
  5. QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Dec 26, 2010 -> 06:30 PM) I still say Dayan is in RF when its all said and done. Not unless CQ is traded. It's 3B or bust for Viciedo.
  6. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Dec 26, 2010 -> 04:47 PM) I know, but at this point last season, Jennings was destroying teams and had just come off a 50 point game, IIRC, and people were saying "Give him the ROY right now". Griffin is just a much better prospect than Jennings. I never liked Jennings. He's an inefficient chucker. Blake is a souped up version of pre-crack Shawn Kemp.
  7. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Dec 26, 2010 -> 04:44 PM) If Kenny Williams loved Viciedo that much, he wouldn't have signed a 1b and a DH to 3 year deals this offseason, he'd have Viciedo DHing. Or at worst, signed a guy like Lee or Pena to a 1 year deal. Then he'll trade him. He's not gonna be in the minors or fill a bench role.
  8. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Dec 26, 2010 -> 04:43 PM) I vaguely recall a regular process of one player having that said about him early in the season, followed by that player being totally passed up int eh 2nd half. I think Brandon Jennings was that guy last year. lol. You must be crazy. Brandon Jennings is a Damon Stoudamire clone. Griffin is a guy you can build a franchise around.
  9. Blake Griffin has rapidly become my favorite non-Bulls player in the NBA. I stop whatever I'm doing to watch Clipper highlights. He's my NBA version of Carlos Gonzalez. He's recorded 18 consecutive double/doubles. Give him the ROY now.
  10. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Dec 26, 2010 -> 04:29 PM) Massive if, but worth taking a shot on. Glad it wasn't the Cubs that got him. Yup. I was worried about the Cubs getting him. Totally worth the risk for the Rangers. I'm sure the contract is heavy with incentives.
  11. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Dec 26, 2010 -> 04:13 PM) What makes you think that KW doesn't also love Morel? There's plenty of reason to think that he does. Dayan wasn't signed to a 4-year, 10 million dollar contract without ever taking a swing in America to rot in the minors. Not saying KW doesn't like Morel. But if Viciedo can just be competent at 3B the job is his. Because 1B/DH is obviously locked up for quite a while. And the OF is full.
  12. Rangers are about to sign Brandon Webb. Could be a huge coup if he's healthy. Easy to forget this guy was one of the top 10 pitchers in baseball just two years ago.
  13. Felix does have a point. I'll win the lotto before 24 consecutive hours goes by without multiple people b****ing about the refs, especially for Bears/Illini games.
  14. QUOTE (MHizzle85 @ Dec 25, 2010 -> 05:42 PM) I was referring to the Knicks. I too believe that the Bulls are a contender. I don't. Contender to me is a team that can legitimately contend for a title. Outside of injury, there's no way in hell we can beat the Celtics or Heat.
  15. QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Dec 25, 2010 -> 04:16 PM) He played in 145 games in 2009 and hit .308 Still impressive. I said full-time player for a reason. He's hit .287 overall since 2005. All I was saying is that he's no lock to hit .300.
  16. QUOTE (Jake @ Dec 25, 2010 -> 03:16 PM) This. At least this time Ozzie's man crush leadoff guy is likely to bat .300. He is? He hasn't hit .300 as a full-time player since 2004.
  17. QUOTE (MHizzle85 @ Dec 25, 2010 -> 03:01 PM) They're not a serious title contender. But they're definitely a playoff team. As much as I hate the Knicks, they're one player away from being a serious threat. I love watching them play. The current wave of talent that's hit the league in the last few years has made the NBA as enjoyable for me since the dynasty.
  18. QUOTE (Springfield SoxFan @ Dec 24, 2010 -> 08:38 PM) Agreed, that speculation just relates to the fact that we are a team with a somewhat unsettled 3b position, Morel/Vizquel/Teahan. Give Morel his shot. I'd love a Longoria/Zimmerman, but that ain't happening. We need as much cheap/controllable talent as we can get.
  19. Merry Christmas to everybody except wite.
  20. QUOTE (J.Reedfan8 @ Dec 24, 2010 -> 03:11 PM) Agreed, not to mention they lost Jack Cust which is quite a bit of OBP there as well. I still like their team pitching though, especially in that park. Huh? Maybe they'll miss Cust's power. But Willingham, DeJesus and Matsui sported OBPs of .389, .384 and .361 respectively last year. They're fine in that department.
  21. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Dec 24, 2010 -> 02:45 PM) At this point, he's the best player still on the market, so yeah. But who else has come close to offering what the Angels did? I don't blame them for pulling their offer. Why bid against yourself?
  22. Hunter Pence or Nick Markakis would be my dream (realistic) additions. I'd give up anything for one of those two.
  23. QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Dec 24, 2010 -> 02:25 PM) +100. I couldn't believe that when I read it. He said in the 80's, all the teams had 3 or 4 superstars. ...which is a no. I think it's time to stop blaming his advisers and recognize LeBron really is a world-class moron that was blessed with exceptional basketball talent and skill. The Bulls made the playoffs one year with a 30-52 record. f***ing idiot.
  24. QUOTE (maggsmaggs @ Dec 24, 2010 -> 01:41 PM) Yahoo Sports MLB Power Rankings from December 23 http://sports.yahoo.com/mlb/news?slug=ti-powerrankings122310 So we add Dunn and drop?? And the Twins are fifth despite no Pavano and no bullepn? Too much eggnog from the writer? I'd have to imagine Peavy's health and a questionable although talented bullpen are the main reasons.
