Mike Quade Named Cubs Manager
QUOTE (fathom @ Nov 9, 2010 -> 03:09 PM) Yeah, and he's saying some would view Konerko as the greatest player in Sox history or Cubs history? I'll assume Cubs. PK over Frank? No.

Buehrle wins 2010 P Gold Glove
QUOTE (Controlled Chaos @ Nov 9, 2010 -> 03:04 PM) Who would have won based on advanced stats? Green? Um, Ramirez. I would've been fine with Cliff Pennington. Jeter? Again? No. Unacceptable. U don't even need advanced stats to see Jeter is below average. The Yankees are on f***ing TV 4389432743274341 times a year. How do these fools not see this? A saving grace is that Yankee fans don't ride the short bus: http://forums.nyyfans.com/showthread.php/1...ld-Glove-Awards

QUOTE (fathom @ Nov 9, 2010 -> 01:47 PM) Yep, still don't understand the hidden meaning I think he's talking about you, dude.

Buehrle wins 2010 P Gold Glove
QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Nov 9, 2010 -> 02:51 PM) Less this, more this... 1999 was indeed pathetic. But you would figure in this day in age of advanced defensive metrics that s*** like this still wouldn't be happening. These old, crusty baseball farts refuse to recognize the game has evolved. I can't wait until Sabathia gets the CY over Felix. -13 defensive runs saved, .778 RZR (that's not good) and a UZR of -4.7. I can't wait until fangraphs and other legitimate writers (Passan) say their piece on this fiasco.

Buehrle wins 2010 P Gold Glove
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Nov 9, 2010 -> 02:50 PM) The sad part is that it is absolutely no surprise to me. They couldn't even be original. May as well have given it to Yuniesky Betancourt. There would've at least been a comedy aspect to it. Jeter is just plain disgusting.

Buehrle wins 2010 P Gold Glove
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Nov 9, 2010 -> 02:44 PM) It lasted for you that long? Man, if it was still alive, it spent the last 12 years or so as a zombie. It had originally died for me last year when Franklin Gutierrez got fleeced. I wanted to give it one more chance. But Jeter again? Over Ramirez? Andrus? Pennington? May as well give the AL MVP to Milton Bradley.

Buehrle wins 2010 P Gold Glove
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Nov 9, 2010 -> 02:39 PM) Derek Jeter has won the AL shortstop cuteness award Gold Glove at shortstop. 11/9/10: The date the GG award officially died for me. This award needs to be motherf***ing abolished ASAP. It's become beyond despicable.

2010-2011 NBA Thread
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Nov 8, 2010 -> 08:16 PM) So I wonder what Thibs was saying to Billups before the half when he was standing next to the Bulls bench? "Don't f*** with me, or I will have them trade for Melo!" And Billups would just die of chronic laughter after replying: "Weren't you guys in the running at one point for KG, Gasol, Kobe, LeBron, Wade and Bosh?" The day the Bulls acquire a superstar is the day Jerry Krause admits that organizations don't really win championships (at least in the NBA).

Cooper wants Sale in 2011 bullpen
QUOTE (Paint it Black @ Nov 8, 2010 -> 06:40 PM) The White Sox know he's a pen arm. It's not necessarily a bad thing either. I just don't know how people can see his delivery and think he can start. I hope to god you're lying. Otherwise there was no reason to take him with the 13th pick.

2010-11 MLB Offseason Catch-All
Derek Jeter to get paid like he's prime A-Rod? http://sports.espn.go.com/new-york/mlb/news/story?id=5781611 I've always defended Jeter. But this is ridiculous if accurate.

Vizquel Back
QUOTE (greg775 @ Nov 7, 2010 -> 10:17 PM) Funny how a lot of us figure Vizquel will be equally productive next season yet most people figure a guy 10 years younger in Paulie is about to hit the brick wall where he suddenly declines. Just.Pay.Paulie. Dude, I seriously hate you sometimes. Outside of probably 2-3 1B, there wasn't anyone at that position that had a better year than PK. Vizquel was a f***ing roleplayer who was pimped out by dumbass Hawk as the lone savior for our mid-season turn-around. Now give Omar his due. He played a role. But don't get it twisted. It'll be A LOT easier for Omar to repeat his '10 than PK. And I say this with love, greg. You know me and you are cool. I've proven that.

Agon, all but gone
QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Nov 8, 2010 -> 05:25 PM) It depends if the fans realize that the season was a bit of a mirage and odds are it doesnt happen again in 2011. That division does kinda suck, though. I'm not fooled at all by the Giants. They won it in '10 and deserve all the credit. But their season screams fluke. Anyone of the 4 teams in that division could realistically win it in '11. And yes, that includes the Diamondbacks. And not because they have Daniel Hudson.

Offseason gameplan
QUOTE (Rowand44 @ Nov 8, 2010 -> 03:52 PM) Grady has had more than one really good season, plays better defense, is a better baserunner, etc. He still absolutely has more value than CQ. Correct. I'd trade CQ for Sizemore's 6-pack let alone his actual talent.

Konerko could end up with one of three, according to Padilla
QUOTE (RockRaines @ Nov 8, 2010 -> 04:30 PM) Well, to be honest, Konerko ranked dead last defensively at 1B for the Sox last year at minus 17 runs saved. He was only better than Quentin defensively for the Sox last season. Konerko has been rated as below-avg defensively pretty much consistently over the last several seasons. Outside of 2003 and 2009, he has been squarely ranked in the 20's defensively as a 1B out of roughly 35. We all know he may be better than others realize, but that doesnt make him exactly "good" overall at the position. I see you've joined the advanced statistic revolution. I thought this all along about PK but it was Kalapse, shocking enough, that tried to debunk my opinion. Sorry K, you're wrong in this case. PK is a below average defender. I still want him back, though, if the price, and more importantly years, is right.

Agon, all but gone
"No s***" comes to mind as I read this article. We didn't get Peavy because the Padres thought highly of Richard, Poreda and Carter. The Padres are in a financial mess right now. They'd be wise to trade Gonzalez BEFORE the season to get maximum value. I predict he'll be a Red Sox before opening day next year.

Buehrle wins 2010 P Gold Glove
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Nov 8, 2010 -> 04:40 PM) He won this award on opening day. I'm not joking. Pretty much. And this is sorta off-topic, but there was a great article on ESPN (one that I can't post because it's premium content) breaking down the Sox' ineptitude defensively this past year. According to Baseball Info Solutions, the Sox were 5th worst in baseball with a -30 runs saved total. And the positions of 1B/3B/RF produced a staggering -65 runs saved. That boggles the mind. We ain't ever gonna close the gap on the Twins until we start catching the f***ing baseball. CQ has no business in RF, and unless we can sign Adrian Beltre (no chance in hell of happening), Morel deserves first dibs at 3B. Mark Teahen has no business playing a significant role on any team with hopes of contending. f***ing dumbass extension. I'm done now.

2010-2011 NBA Thread
QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Oct 28, 2010 -> 09:57 AM) Did anyone else catch Chris Broussard on pre-game yesterday say that Andre Iguodala wants out of Philly and that the Bulls and Sixers have had discussions about a Deng/Iggy swap? Just jizzed. I wanted AI back in '04. I've never forgiven Paxson for that botched pick.

2010 ALCS: Rangers vs. Yankees
QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Oct 27, 2010 -> 08:31 PM) With regards to Cotts, he did have a very mediocre slider to go along with that fastball, and used it just to get the other hitters thinking about it. He hid the ball very well and thus, his 88-91 MPH MPH fastball looked to be about 93-96. I recall people saying that he altered his delivery the following year - I think coming more over the top opposed to three-quarters - and it was much easier to pick the ball up and he's been killed ever since. I remember fathom saying all that year that he had no clue how Cotts had only given up 1 HR. I just thought that fathom was being fathom (or am I the new fathom now?) Cotts was just one lucky mofo in 2005.

2010 ALCS: Rangers vs. Yankees
QUOTE (Rowand44 @ Oct 28, 2010 -> 10:30 AM) He hid the ball well and did the little toe tap which I'm sure messed with the hitters timing a little bit. As for the Rangers, I'd bet on CJ Wilson and Colby Lewis coming back to earth pretty hard next season, they better find some pitching elsewhere imo. This is true. Both will have to prove this year's success was not flukish (though Lewis had some impressive peripherals). But if they resign Lee they'll obviously get 30+ starts instead of 15. And I think we see Feliz in the rotation, at least to begin the season next year. They'll obviously have to find another closer. But that's where guys like Ogando and Scheppers come in. Electric closer-type stuff from both of those guys.

2010 World Series: Rangers vs. Giants
This game of baseball just makes no sense. Lee anally violates the Rays/Yankees but gets bamboozled by a Giants lineup made up of in-season free agent/waiver wire pick-ups and reclamation projects (save Posey).

QUOTE (fathom @ Oct 27, 2010 -> 09:55 PM) It's GREAT to see Blake Griffin looks 100% healthy. QUOTE (kev211 @ Oct 27, 2010 -> 10:04 PM) Blake Griffin is an animal. This is going to be a sick rookie class (yes, I know Griffin isn't really a rookie). But you get the point.

Nick Johnson
QUOTE (Soxfest @ Oct 27, 2010 -> 10:49 PM) You are correct sir he is an egg shell! This would be no different then the Cubs bringing back Mark Prior.

2010 ALCS: Rangers vs. Yankees
QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Oct 27, 2010 -> 01:58 PM) I kinda disagree with that. CJ Wilson had some great years as a closer. Colby did suddenly figure it out in Japan, but he was always considered to have the stuff, so I think he can keep it up at age 30. I think its a pretty damn talented team, although the lineup more than the pitchers of course. All champs need a bit of "team of destiny" in them, but I think this team is playing way less out of their ass than the 2005 Sox. Even during '05 you had so many players that you knew would not repeat theirs success in '06 and beyond. I still don't know how the hell Neal Cotts and his one pitch (which was average) dominated like he did. KW knew this better than anybody. That's why he traded arguably the team's most popular player for Thome like 38 seconds after the World Series clincher, to go along with trading the team's top position prospect for another SP when it appeared we had a set 5. The Rangers have a group of guys that you can definitely see stability/growth/upside in. And they still have two of the better pitching prospects in all the minors in Martin Perez and Tanner Scheppers. It all starts obviously, of course, with bringing Lee back.

2010-2011 NBA Thread
QUOTE (nitetrain8601 @ Oct 26, 2010 -> 07:37 PM) Bosh? I kid, I kid. That is going to be the weakness of Miami. Their inside presence. They have old people who are no longer good, have undersized people, or underweight people. Bosh is a stick. He'll still provide good output from PF, but at the same time, most good/great PF's will eat him alive. Miami really should've gone after Boozer(I know he's injured now) to provide a bulldozer downlow. Then they could get away with a crusty C and they would be fine. Either way though, I'm still putting the house on Miami winning the championship until Bynum is completely healthy and shows it in the Finals. lol. what the hell?
