White Sox in win mode, not rebuild
Nothing of note here. We're always in win now mode. We just don't win nearly enough.

Twins Collapse with Home Field Adv.
QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Oct 12, 2010 -> 10:11 AM) Is there though? The Phillies ($140 mil) are favorites to win their 3rd straight NL pennant, and are easily in position to win the next 2 or 3. The Mets & the Cubs were spending way more money than other teams as well, they just did a s***ty job in who they gave the money too. The Reds did it the way the Rays did, while the Giants scouted/developed some great arms, but still can't compete lineup-wise. But they haven't been spending $140 million annually. That's just for 2010. Since their run started, they've spent $89 million, $98 million and $113 million. The more they win, the more the payroll rises. But it's not like they've just gone out whoring the FA market like the Yankees. They have some of the premier players in the game, players that either came up through the system or were acquired via the system. You have to have some patience, but replicating their model is within reason if you have the right people in place.

Trade Candidates for Kenny this offseason
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Oct 12, 2010 -> 11:36 AM) The thing is with his contract situation, he might be available. Problem is anything less than Beckham+Sale would make the Indians die of chronic laughter.

NLDS: Giants vs. Braves
QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Oct 12, 2010 -> 11:12 AM) Thats a good question. In the Braves defense, they did make the WS 4 out of the first 5 playoff trips. Once the division series started, they won that round 5 straight years too. They at least were winning playoff series, Gardenhire is having difficulty winning single playoff games. That being said, Cox has lost 8 of his last 9 playoff series and hasnt made the NLCS since 2001, but you never really hear about that. But they consistently lost to teams with considerably worse records and overall talent. They had no business losing to the Phillies in '93, the Yankees in '96 (they were up 2-0 going home for Game 3), the Marlins in '97, the Padres in '98 and the Cubs in 2003. And there was never a whisper about him losing his job. Just strange to me how he always got a pass.

NLDS: Giants vs. Braves
So why is it that Bobby Cox always seemed to get a free pass for his club continuously coming up short in the postseason, yet Gardenhire is the worst manager that ever lived because he keeps losing to the AL all-star team?

Trade Candidates for Kenny this offseason
QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Oct 12, 2010 -> 09:55 AM) I'm more or less already tired of people throwing out trade ideas and players that absolutely no team in their right mind would give up. Asking if Shin Soo Choo or Mike Stanton is available is like asking the Cardinals if Albert Pujols is available. I suppose this isn't a good time to propose my CQ for Carlos Gonzalez swap?

Clear your motherf***in' schedules, folks. Lincecum vs Halladay this Saturday. Where's my baby oil?

White Sox targeting Carl Crawford
QUOTE (gatnom @ Oct 11, 2010 -> 06:06 PM) In my opinion, the Hudson trade is different than those because it set in motion the necessity of trading one of Danks or Floyd in the off season because we have just about no money to spend anymore. All of our decent prospects have diminished value due to injuries or poor seasons, which means we have to trade something from our major league roster to get value back, and the only place on our major league roster where we have some semblance of depth is our starting pitching. You aren't getting much of anything for Buehrle because of his contract, and it might be bad to trade him if you decide Konerko and AJ aren't worth what they want to be paid. Nobody will trade for Peavy because of the combination of his contract, injuries, and performance. If we try to trade Jackson himself, we aren't going to get back as much as we gave up to the Diamondbacks, which defeats the whole purpose of trading him in the first place. We can't trade Sale yet. That leaves one of Floyd or Danks that has to go. Thank you! I can't believe some think we're upset about the trade because we think Hudson is the next Strasburg. But I'm sick of explaining myself. You did a fine job.

A couple of insights on the Twins
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Oct 11, 2010 -> 06:00 PM) That's not what the article said... I know that. You asked about Morneau, right? That's whom I was referring to.

A couple of insights on the Twins
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Oct 11, 2010 -> 05:14 PM) I see Mauer gets his bump next year, any idea when Morneau gets his? He's making $15 million a year through 2013.

NLDS: Phillies vs. Reds
QUOTE (bigruss22 @ Oct 10, 2010 -> 10:08 PM) The Phillies starters are jsut so damn good. Phillies sweep. I'm not positive, but with the extra time off from the sweep and the normal days off, they might be able to go with Halladay, Oswalt and Hamels the rest of the postseason. And as for the Reds, they've got nothing to be ashamed of. They got outclassed by the premier organization in baseball right now. But with a young core in Phillips, Votto, Bruce, Stubbs, Heisey, Cueto, Volquez, Wood, Bailey, Leake and Chapman, not to mention guys like Alonso waiting in the wings, they figure to be a force for quite a while.

Conrad should be on suicide watch. He's the 2B/NL version of CQ.

NLDS: Giants vs. Braves
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Oct 10, 2010 -> 06:46 PM) And yet...the Braves have exactly legit 1 starting pitcher that they've developed, right? Hanson? Lowe, Hudson, Jurrjens all signed or traded for. Maybe you'd count Medlen but he shredded his elbow. Their bullpen spent about 5 years being the weakest point on their team, to the point they had to sign Wagner to close. Kyle Farnsworth plays a role in their bullpen. You simply aren't going to get me to envy the pitching staff of any team using Kyle Farnsworth for anything. Have you seen what they have in the minors?

NLDS: Giants vs. Braves
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Oct 10, 2010 -> 06:37 PM) He was drafted by the Braves in the 3rd round of the 2008 draft. Which guy would you prefer we have not selected in favor of Kimbrel...Gordon Beckham or Brent Morel? Those are the only 2 picks the Sox had before he was drafted. I was talking overall. Not specifically that particular draft. The Braves have a bevy of premium arms. We've got Sale and? I don't even want to get into it.

NLDS: Giants vs. Braves
This Craig Kimbrel is sick. Can we please hire the Braves' scouts? I hate our organization more and more each day.

White Sox targeting Carl Crawford
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Oct 10, 2010 -> 05:53 PM) Opening day payroll was #7 in baseball (with the note that the Dodgers were paying enough of Pierre's salary that in an honest sense we were #8). Only 2 of the top 8 teams in MLB payroll made the playoffs. Which should tell us something.

Trade Candidates for Kenny this offseason
QUOTE (hitlesswonder @ Oct 10, 2010 -> 04:34 PM) I think that's exactly right. The Sox don't have any combination of players that could be packaged for a guy like Stanton. Really, the only things the Sox have to trade that have any significant value are Floyd, Danks, Sale, Santos, and Alexei. And none of those guys is all that valuable. The truth is that the Sox don't have much talent and what talent they do have is either well-paid (Rios) or about to cost a bunch of money (Danks). W.T.F.? I'll give you Santos. But the other guys?

ALDS: Rays vs. Rangers
QUOTE (justBLAZE @ Oct 10, 2010 -> 05:22 PM) I'm glad my rant sparked Rays to come back in the series. PS. Still not impressed with Colby Lewis, I've watched him few times this season, yea, he's had a decent year, overall 5.32 lifetime ERA, no thanks. Not much to go by before this year. Only had 217 1/3 IP before this year. Appears to be one of those late bloomers. And he's been better than "decent" this year: K/9 8.78, BB/9 2.91, HR/9 0.94, FIP 3.55, xFIP 3.93.

NLDS: Giants vs. Braves
Jonathan Sanchez would be a top 10 pitcher in the NL if he was just a tad more consistent.

Trade Candidates for Kenny this offseason
QUOTE (bigruss22 @ Oct 10, 2010 -> 04:10 PM) Stanton would cost Beckham, Sale, Morel, and any other living body we have plus the Sox covering any cost associated with those players. I'm not sure all those guys and prime Frank Thomas would be enough to get Stanton (I'm obviously exaggerating. But you get the point). I expect Stanton to hit 40 HRs next year at the ripe old age of 21.

White Sox targeting Carl Crawford
QUOTE (lostfan @ Oct 10, 2010 -> 03:56 PM) You guys bring up the Jackson/Hudson thing in EVERY THREAD and there's only like 1 post here about how it might factor into getting Crawford, i.e. the topic of this thread. You're f***ing killing me. I can't help it. I wake up in the middle of the night cold and pouring sweat when I think about this outrage against nature of a trade.

NLDS: Giants vs. Braves
QUOTE (Brian @ Oct 10, 2010 -> 04:01 PM) Awful that is the way his career ends. I would tune in to Astros games in the late 90's/early 2000's (only time I could see them was when they were playing the Cubs, as there was no league package) just to get a glimpse of Wagner. I loved those Astros teams. So fun to watch.

Looks like we've seen the last of Billy Wagner. Hell of a career. Dude was flat devastating when healthy.

QUOTE (Chet Kincaid @ Oct 10, 2010 -> 10:23 AM) Does anyone know what happened to Lind this past season? I mean, how did he drop so much so fast? I'd be scared to give up a lot for him. His suckitude might linger around for more than one season. I wouldn't touch Lind. He's a left-handed CQ.
