  1. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Oct 5, 2010 -> 03:54 PM) I'm really hoping for a Giants-Phillies NLCS. So.much.starting.pitching. That's too much pitching for me. I'd rather see an offensive juggernaut against a pitching juggernaut. Reds/Giants would be my preference.
  2. QUOTE (J.Reedfan8 @ Oct 5, 2010 -> 04:05 PM) I think 3 years ago. It was a big rumor for a while (I think it came out of Alba's mouth herself). *I'll leave that for the "pun" posters* Google it. I've just learned that Jeter has boned Vanessa Minnillo and Jessica Biel. I have even more respect for him now.
  3. QUOTE (J.Reedfan8 @ Oct 5, 2010 -> 03:57 PM) Other than giving Jessica Alba herpes, no. Yikes. When the hell did this happen?
  4. QUOTE (thxfrthmmrs @ Oct 5, 2010 -> 03:57 PM) what are you trying to prove here? that he is not being hated by fans outside of New York? if you have to rate the best players in decade 2000, where would he rank? He is what he is, but for the player that he is, he got more credit than he deserves, the GG awards are perfect examples. he received more media attention than he deserved because he plays for the yankees. and you don't even want to mention his contract, no way does he deserves to be the second highest paid player in baseball. Sure there are fans who think he is a great player and remember him for his clutch and signature moments, but it's a fact that many fans do hate him or at least dislike him because he is overrated and way overpaid p.s. isn't he the one who gave Jessica Alba herpes? I'm not arguing that he's hated. I'm arguing that the reasoning for hating him is just flat-out stupid.
  5. QUOTE (J.Reedfan8 @ Oct 5, 2010 -> 03:55 PM) Saber guy as well. Pierre >>> Reed
  6. QUOTE (justBLAZE @ Oct 5, 2010 -> 03:43 PM) I find it amuzing how 'some' can turn a Rick Hahn thread into b****ing about Dan Hudson thread I will b**** about that trade until 2020. Just terrible. It'd be so nice to have both he AND Sale dirt cheap, waiting to take over. It'd make either one of Danks/Floyd expendable and give us the ability to fill multiple holes on the fly.
  7. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Oct 5, 2010 -> 03:31 PM) I actually think the Twins are pretty underrated by pretty much everyone. If they can get over their fear of beating the Yankees, I could see them getting to and winning the World Series with relative ease. Fantastic bullpen, good 1-2 starters, good enough 3-4 starters, and a great lineup. Other than the Braves, I think you could make a legitimate World Series argument for any of the other 7 playoff teams. This is a really good field this year. Last year it was pretty cut and dry it would be the Phillies and Yankees.
  8. QUOTE (thxfrthmmrs @ Oct 5, 2010 -> 03:26 PM) he was hated by a lot fans outside of new york, for constantly being overpaid and overrated. http://baseball.dailyskew.com/2010/01/top-...ayers-2010.html i believe 7 of those players are/were on the NYY/BOS at one point. and jeter was an honorable mention a year earlier. Overrated? A career slash line of .314/.385/.452/.837 for a SS over 10, 548 PAs seems pretty good to me. Defensively? Yes, he's a joke. Not much to dislike about his game besides that. And has there even been a wiff of off the field controversy with him? If there has been I don't remember. Breaking up with Mariah Carey?
  9. QUOTE (JorgeFabregas @ Oct 5, 2010 -> 03:04 PM) Do the Dodgers actually have a problem with Kemp or was it just a conflict with Joe Torre? What evidence is there that he's on the trading block? They pretty much played him every day in September, from what I recall. He homered in 5 straight games to end the season. It was thought that his attitude/laziness (particularly on defense) had really started to irk the higher ups in the organization. His agent (is it Dave Stewart?) even said a trade might have to take place. He's basically become the NL version of B.J. Upton. Massive 5-tool talent that underachieves for whatever reason(s). But I recently read at espn that they have no intention of trading him. I'd totally take a chance on him. But we usually take on former all-stars 5-7 years past their prime. So that ain't happening.
  10. QUOTE (Chet Kincaid @ Oct 5, 2010 -> 02:57 PM) I don't necessarily like Jeter, but why does he deserve to he hated? I was thinking the same thing. Other than being given multiple Gold Gloves he didn't deserve (not his fault by the way), I have no idea how you could hate him. I still can't get over that play he made against the A's in Game 3 of the ALDS in '01. One of the top 5 defensive plays I've ever witnessed (Buehrle's opening day circus/freak play being #1) .
  11. QUOTE (Knackattack @ Oct 5, 2010 -> 02:43 PM) That was my thought too. Meh, they gave up Carlos Santana to get the immortal Casey Blake. I'm of the thinking that Floyd is as good as he's gonna get. He just can't seem to put a full season together. But stick him in the NL in a pitchers park, he could dominate. If we still have Hudson I'd deal Floyd for Kemp in a second. Unfortunately, KW totally f***ed that up.
  12. Two best bullpens in the AL. I think that's what will decide this series. If you like power arms, this is the series for you.
  13. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Oct 4, 2010 -> 05:25 PM) I dunno. I feel like they've been going the complete opposite direction for the last month. Giants are 19-10 over the stretch run, Braves are 14-16. The Braves really lost a lot when they lost Larry, but the Giants are peaking right now. I totally agree with you here. Forget about the team win totals. I'd be shocked if the Braves won this series. The Giants are one of those rare teams more built for the postseason than they are the 162-game grind. They've got an outstanding power starting staff, a shutdown bullpen (elite closers in particular take on a bigger role than they do in the regular season) and they catch the baseball (they're 4th in both RZR/DRS and 2nd in UZR). If they get any kinda offense, I wouldn't be shocked if they made it all the way to the Series.
  14. QUOTE (Milkman delivers @ Oct 5, 2010 -> 01:33 PM) So don't have any repercussions at all? Read my analogy about the office from earlier. I don't care how unfair it may seem. If you are in charge of a group of people who CONTINUALLY underperform, you're the one whose ass is (and should be) on the line. I've had this argument before, concerning Ozzie specifically. The other person argued that you can't blame Ozzie if he can't get through to the players. THAT'S HIS JOB. You can blame him. Four words (or numbers): 2005. KW, Ozzie and basically the whole staff have job security for life because of that one season. We're a big market city with small market expectations. I want to barf when I hear "Well, we still won 88 games." Won 88 f***ing games? Whooptie f***ing do. I expect A LOT more than that.
  15. QUOTE (Milkman delivers @ Oct 5, 2010 -> 01:23 PM) Man, I hate terrible nicknames. Yeah, those were pretty atrocious.
  16. QUOTE (nitetrain8601 @ Oct 4, 2010 -> 05:20 PM) Reds are my favorite NL team which is why I know they'll get swept against the Phillies. They simply are not good enough. Honestly, I think this year was a fluke year. They don't have enough talent. You've got to be kidding? They'll probably lose. But it certainly won't be from a lack of talent.
  17. QUOTE (kitekrazy @ Oct 4, 2010 -> 01:42 PM) I'm going with 90%. I think Kenny is deceiving fans just to make himself look better. If "the money isn't there" is his excuse then he is the one to blame. People will start pointing fingers at the Jackson trade and of course the money for Manny Ramirez. So we may be looking at an organization that has depleted funds and a depleted farm system under Kenny. Reinsdorf seems to show a loyalty towards certain players, I think the same will be with Konerko. You have to appreciate PK. He's one of the few athletes in a contract year who decides not to make it an issue and rarely addressed it. (take note Ozzie Guillen) Not signing Thome was a big controversy, imagine if they don't sign Konerko and even worse, if he became a Twin. Who do you replace him with at the same amount of money? I'm not fond of replacing a player with players from the NL. They have to make the biggest adjustment since the talent is so lopsided. lmao.
  18. The Twins are just better than us. /thread
  19. QUOTE (J.Reedfan8 @ Oct 4, 2010 -> 01:29 AM) Thank god. I know you ain't talkin'.
  20. QUOTE (MHizzle85 @ Oct 4, 2010 -> 12:49 AM) No one likes you. I want Andrus back. lol. Andrus was decent for me. But plucking Buster Posey off the waiver wire the second he was called up (I tracked his progress in the minors all year to that point) might've been my best move of the year. Not only did he rake, but he allowed me to trade Brian McCann for Tulo, who went '94 Frank Thomas the last month.
  21. Giants starting pitching+Braves offense=Giants sweep.
  22. QUOTE (Cali @ Oct 3, 2010 -> 10:51 PM) Yankeeeeeeeeees
  23. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Oct 3, 2010 -> 11:05 PM) Phillies sweep this series. Reds did not win a season series against a team with a winning record, I dont see them hanging with Philly. Their record against winning teams is irrelevant at this point. It's a 5-game series. Anything can and probably will happen.
  24. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Oct 3, 2010 -> 10:56 PM) I think that series might be the worst one. I like the Reds and all their young players, but Roy^2 & Hamels will shut them down I think. The Reds won their division by beating the s*** teams and have a losing record against every good team in the NL. They have a promising future, but I don't think they stand a chance vs. Philly. The Phillies should be the prohibitive favorite. But the Reds can f***ing hit (Bruce is scorching hot). If their starters can at least keep them in the games, they could surprise.
  25. Make that a clean sweep of all 4 Soxtalk fantasy baseball leagues this year. I command everybody to get down on their knees and worship the almighty Allah (me). Anyway, had fun. Can't wait for next year. We should play for money or something. Well once again I feel like a dumbass. Looks like even though I had the best record in the league Steve won the tiebreaker due to a better head-2-head record in Soxtalk Keeper 1. Lame. So it's Jordan4life 3, Soxtalk 1.
