  2. QUOTE (fathom @ Sep 16, 2010 -> 10:49 PM) I think I'd rather see the Giants, even though I know your significant other is on the Rockies. And heck, if there's a former Sox player to root for, screw Jim Thome. I'll root for Juan Uribe over Thome any day. I don't want to see the NL East teams make the NLCS. The NL playoffs should be very exciting. I wouldn't want to f*** with the Phillies right now. And we both love the Reds.
  3. QUOTE (J.Reedfan8 @ Sep 16, 2010 -> 10:45 PM) I don't know about anyone else here, but I probably will not watch any more games the rest of the year (didn't watch this game), especially if we are still playing the older veterans instead of guys like Morel, Viciedo, Flowers. Same with the pen seeing Linebrink instead of Infante/Sale. I'm following the NL West from this point on. Hell of a face going on there. I'm praying either the Giants or Rockies (or both) get in.
  4. From 9 1/2 out in June, to 4 1/2 up in July, to 9 out and counting in September. A total team second-half collapse that starts at the top with KW and then trickles down to the manager and onto the players (save PK, who's been magnificent all year). Shame. A great opportunity was there. Would've been a heck of a story. That's 8 fails in 10 years under KW. In a division that doesn't feature the Yankees or Red Sox. Hold on to 2005 as long as you'd like. Changes should be imminent. If not to management, as nobody is ever held accountable, then definitely in organizational philosophy.
  5. Hawk's idiocy has rubbed off on Steve Stone. "Carl Povano has been the ace of this staff." No, Steve, that would be Liriano.
  6. QUOTE (kev211 @ Sep 16, 2010 -> 07:12 PM) So you'd rather be the twins then? Make the playoffs every year but lose in the 1st round. Yes, I would. Well, kinda. If you can absolutely guarantee me 1 title in 5 years then of course I'd have that. But give me the team that consistently puts itself in a position to get that title over a 1-year wonder any day of the week.
  7. Good thread, guys. But I will say if the MVP is going to go to a player from a non playoff team then it's Miguel Cabrera without hesitation for me. He's been better than Konerko at, well, everything.
  8. QUOTE (kev211 @ Sep 16, 2010 -> 06:57 PM) Some of the anti-kw post in this thread are sickening. You guys act like KW has given us 0 winning seasons and left this team doomed when in reality he's brought us a world series and one of the most successful decades in the franchises history. Edit: Awesome article. I say this with the utmost respect...WHO THE f*** CARES? That was FIVE years ago. He doesn't get a free pass for life because of that one season. He's been average at best (straight bad the last two seasons) since then. The '05 Sox have '85 Bears written all over it. Makes me sick. Have some higher expectation, people.
  9. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Sep 16, 2010 -> 12:48 PM) ? Gordon Beckham, Alexei Ramirez, Chris Sale, Gavin Floyd, John Danks, Sergio Santos, Dayan Viciedo all say hi. Maybe he meant guys that we've drafted? And I don't think Santos qualifies as a "best asset."
  10. Go Twins! Put us out of our misery for good.
  11. Good article. Not much substance to me. We know about Kenny's greatest triumph (2005). And then there's the 8 times in the 9 other years in which we've missed the playoffs. And he's had a horrible two+ year stretch. Didn't know about the Raider obsession.
  12. QUOTE (kitekrazy @ Sep 16, 2010 -> 12:33 PM) You based your judgment on a TV show? Those move makes sense in short term when you need experience in a pennant race. The long term implications may not be so good. I think Jackson is a Boras client and JR doesn't like that. Once again we see the Sox cry poor but their actions always contradict that. It's hard to tell how this will pan out. I think people get too carried away that Hudson is doing well in a weak league and a team with no pressure. A+ for originality.
  13. QUOTE (greg775 @ Sep 16, 2010 -> 01:43 AM) The lesson this year AGAIN is make some moves during the season. No, Jackson for Hudson does not count. If we could all remember how dominant this White Sox team looked for a LONG STRETCH. We got back in the race miraculously. So at the break or shortly after the team needed some effective tinkering, which is uh, Kenny's job. This second half has been an utter disaster. Shame on the Sox for standing pat again. Yes a lot of people, including me, thought maybe this magical run would continue. I remember some dope calling Grobstein's show and saying, "I just can't see the Sox tapering off." That fan thought we'd continue at that 35-5 rate. But a GM has to have a better feel than some of us fans who got caught up in the 35-5 and Paulie who got caught up in it and said we needed nothing. As well as Ozzie who wanted to stand pat. The Manny move was ridiculously timed although maybe his presence helped us sweep the Bosox somehow. Maybe seeing him freaked out that team and its fans. No, the lesson is to make moves BEFORE the season. You know, when it's not required that ANOTHER team has to want what you have to give. I know you're hard-headed. But damn.
  14. QUOTE (kitekrazy @ Sep 16, 2010 -> 04:14 AM) odd how they already matched last year's victories and the season isn't over Does that really matter when they'll probably finish anywhere from 8-10 games behind a MUCH superior team? I can't believe some are taking solace out of the possibility of possibly winning 85-88 games. This is Chicago. Not f***ing Pittsburgh.
  15. QUOTE (whitesoxfan99 @ Sep 16, 2010 -> 01:48 AM) Swisher is a very good player who had a bad year with the Sox. He is hitting .288 with a .876 OPS and 26 HRs this year. The problem with the Swisher trade was dumping him for nothing the next year when his value was at its lowest point. And Clayton Richard isn't excellent, he is a product of pitching in San Diego just like just about everyone else on that staff. Except for Mat Latos.
  16. It's not already over? If the Sox come back and win the division I'll shave my ass hairs and change my name to Leonardo.
  17. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Sep 15, 2010 -> 11:25 PM) What team has really successfully re built in 4 or 5 years in the past 15 years? The Braves? They had their insane run, fell off for a few years, and they're right back in the thick of things in the NL. The Phillies went from a laughing stock to a perennial powerhouse. Not saying there's any bulletproof formula here. But our current formula, well, sucks.
  18. QUOTE (danman31 @ Sep 16, 2010 -> 12:37 AM) Your sarcasm meter needs fixing. Damn, I guess you're right.
  19. QUOTE (bighurt4life @ Sep 15, 2010 -> 07:57 PM) ive been bragging that i know someone from an online forum who knows blackwood Um, why? I'm pretty sure 99 out of 100 Sox fans have no idea who Chase Blackwood is. I know I didn't before ol' girl joined the site.
  20. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Sep 15, 2010 -> 10:24 PM) 87 or 88 wins???? Blow it all up! This franchise is sickening! It's a shame that in a major market like Chicago that 87/88 wins is somewhat acceptable to some folks.
  21. QUOTE (justBLAZE @ Sep 15, 2010 -> 03:51 PM) Troy Tulowitzki needs a freaking shower, dude is filthy.
  22. QUOTE (southsideirish71 @ Sep 15, 2010 -> 08:49 PM) I like cooper but I am ready to clean the entire house out. The only one I want to definately keep is Hahn. That entire group that was in the room with Kenny during the Hudson trade on the Club can go as well. When is that one airing again? I'd like to see what was said.
  23. QUOTE (JorgeFabregas @ Sep 15, 2010 -> 08:47 PM) You make it sound like Danks is a bad #3. He's a solid AL 3. And Floyd is arguably the better pitcher. But yeah, they have a lot of middle-of-the-rotation guys. He's not bad at all. It just seems like he's hit his ceiling. But the problem is it seems as if he wants to get paid like a #1 or #2. He's not even a top 5 left-handed, let a lone top 15-20 or so pitcher overall, in baseball.
  24. QUOTE (fathom @ Sep 15, 2010 -> 08:43 PM) Watching Beckham's AB from last inning, you have to wonder why in the hell is he playing? It doesn't take a doctor to realize he's not close to 100%. Gavin continuing his awful stretch run. Both Danks and Floyd have so much ability, but neither has been able to avoid the trend of way too many unwinnable starts. They've been the same exact pitchers for the last three years. That's not a real bad thing. But you'd like to see natural progression for guys as young and talented as they are.
  25. QUOTE (pittshoganerkoff @ Sep 15, 2010 -> 08:39 PM) HR is a HR. At least it would've been funny to mock CQ had it been his fault.
