2010 AL Central Catch-All
QUOTE (whitesoxfan99 @ Sep 11, 2010 -> 11:25 PM) Deciding to go with Kotsay and Jones as a rotating DH over signing Thome for basically nothing has to be among the dumbest personnel decisions in baseball history and it pretty much cost us the division. Both Ozzie and KW still have inflated egos from five years ago. Hopefully, they will finally realize '05 was your classic fluke.

QUOTE (fathom @ Sep 11, 2010 -> 10:28 PM) Votto clinched the NL MVP tonight barring a choke by the Reds. Saw an amazing stat that he hasn't popped up the ball (140 feet and less) once this season. He's the favorite. But if the Rockies stun the baseball world for the third time in 4 years and somehow get in, be it win the division or the wild card, Carlos Gonzalez will be every bit as deserving.

QUOTE (Princess Dye @ Sep 11, 2010 -> 09:12 PM) it's a team determined stat. total RBI hard to get when the guys in front of you have mediocre or poor OBP Also hard to rack up a lot of RBIs when you have a combined 20 extra basehits in 571 at bats. Troy Tulowitzki has that many in the last week.

QUOTE (South Side Fireworks Man @ Sep 11, 2010 -> 09:02 PM) I suppose Castro and Flowers could handle the position about as well as Jamie Burke and Ben Davis did. You just made my point. Flowers has been dog s*** ever since he was promoted to AAA last year. He's done nothing to justify even a part-time gig at this point. QUOTE (greg775 @ Sep 11, 2010 -> 09:03 PM) Then what are the Sox options at catcher if AJ is gone? I have no idea what the FA market for catchers is. Hopefully we can upgrade from A.J. Wouldn't be surprised if we had to bring him back out of desperation (much like trading for Pierre).

QUOTE (greg775 @ Sep 11, 2010 -> 08:59 PM) Can Castro and Flowers handle the spot next year? Split duty? That would be a worst case scenario.

QUOTE (South Side Fireworks Man @ Sep 11, 2010 -> 08:54 PM) AJ proving he still has plenty in the tank. Meh, I don't put much stock in him sucking for most of 5 months and hitting a hot streak at the end. He's clearly on the downside and not even his pending free agency (which proves not everybody has a career year the year before it's time to get paid) did much for him.

QUOTE (greg775 @ Sep 11, 2010 -> 08:52 PM) I'm not crazy about Pena, either. That's a scary post that I'm quoting. We can't afford the Twins to add a lot of talent. I'd rather go young and take our lumps than trot Omar and Juan out there again. Teahen truly is buzzkill. Our starting staff for the past two years has supposed to have been AMAZING. It's been OK but not amazing. We gots work to do. The Twins don't have to add a lot of talent. Give them a healthy Nathan/Morneau and that right there makes them the prohibitive favorites in the Central.

QUOTE (mcgrad70 @ Sep 11, 2010 -> 08:49 PM) Is it humanly possible of Pena to come into a game and not give up any runs. I don't see the fascination with him. He's as bad as Linebrink. He's got a 95 MPH fastball and Mark Buehrle K rates without Mark's pint-point control. He's awful. KW better hope Brandon Allen doesn't go Chris Young for Arizona next year.

QUOTE (thxfrthmmrs @ Sep 11, 2010 -> 08:46 PM) i really think that EJax was on a roll throwing the baseball up till the game vs Cleveland where he already threw 8 innings of 1 run ball, with 120 pitches for the night. but Ozzie decides to leave him in in the 9th, and he gave up 3 hits and 2 runs. At that moment, i was really hoping the bad ending won't derail EJax from his hot streak, you know, baseball players are all about streaks, rituals and superstitions. EJax has really cooled off since, and back to earth he comes. Anybody who thought Jackson was as good as those first five starts needs a reality check. He was going to come back to earth anyway. And wasn't half our bullpen either on the DL or unavailable that night anyway?

QUOTE (greg775 @ Sep 11, 2010 -> 08:40 PM) Can we all agree the White Sox aren't built to beat teams in their own division? Sox need to work on that for the future. Then KW and CO. need to find another profession. Because we sure as hell ain't built to beat the Yankees, Rays, healthy Red Sox or Rangers. Edit: Angels will be right back in the thick of things with the return of a healthy Morales and Haren for a full year.

Whats your status?
Been dating two girls since June. Definitely playing with fire. As one is a latina and you know their families run about, I don't know, 100 deep. So if I ever disappear for a while, it's probably because some essay put a cap in my ass.

How old are you?
My age is Carlos Quentin's UZR. Wait a minute, that was dumb. Anyway, 27. But I've been told by many that after my crazy weight loss that I look like a freshman in college now.

QUOTE (iamshack @ Sep 10, 2010 -> 10:59 PM) Hah, I have him in my fantasy keeper league, so trust me, I am a big fan. I just wanted to see your explanation of the splits, that's all. I don't have an explanation. Those are some pretty drastic splits. But I don't think this is a Preston Wilson situation either. Carlos' skillset should translate to consistent production no matter the park. Next year will be telling on if he truly is a product of Coors. And even if he is, my love for him will stay true.

QUOTE (bucket-of-suck @ Sep 11, 2010 -> 12:11 AM) White sox farm system coming through. Chris Sale drafted less than 3 months ago gets his second save in as many chances and Brent Morel hits his first career HR that proves to be the difference in a MUST win game in the heat of a pennant race. And our GM is Kenny Williams. They'll both be with other organizations this time next year.

2011
QUOTE (J.Reedfan8 @ Sep 9, 2010 -> 10:39 PM) I'd be very, very careful with evaluating Vizquel. I still think he is having a fluke year offensively at his age, especially when he was putting up .243/.301/.308/.608 combined from 07-09. If we are bringing him back for his glove, sure, but I fear Ozzie will give him more at-bats (again) than he is worth similar to what he did with Kotsay after his sample size 09 season. I honestly would look to trade Pierre as well which is a good sell high with him. His OBP is inflated this season with his 18 HBP. (twice as many than he's ever had in his career in a season, i.e. he had 10 with the Rockies 9 years ago) I also hate his game, so perhaps that is my hatred talking, though I have nothing to say about him this year with us luckily. I didn't even mention the bullpen either.. KW has alot of work to do, no doubt and he and the front office (not Ozzie) has to make his smart decisions. And if there is one guy I hope is not brought back, and we get a much better hitter/OBP guy.. it's A.J. (not getting VMart, I don't believe, we'll see with KW) and I'd give Konerko only 2 years max. (though he definitely won't duplicate the season he had this year, and I'm sure the F.O. knows it.) Theres gonna be alot of 1B to sell low on, it's up to the F.O. if they want to gamble on that and get more established hitters elsewhere in different positions. Man, for a Jeremy Reed fan (even his family knows he sucks), you're pretty smart.

QUOTE (RockRaines @ Sep 9, 2010 -> 04:40 PM) They do? Apparently you've never watched Danks pitch at all? Ever seen game 163? That performance to me was more impressive than any single playoff game from the 2005 staff.

Manny's been here for like 27 seconds and he's already been a waste of 4 million. Not singling him out or anything. But our season is just about over and he hasn't even had a chance to make a legitimate impact.

Daniel Hudson watch thread
QUOTE (fathom @ Sep 8, 2010 -> 10:45 PM) Watched a lot of Hudson's start tonight. Hitters just don't take good swings against his change-up. He's going to be a very good pitcher in the NL for a while if he can stay healthy. But he did it against an NL team. It doesn't count.

2010 MLB Catch-All Thread
QUOTE (Tony82087 @ Sep 8, 2010 -> 09:52 PM) I think misleading is probably the wrong word for it, but I think the point he is making is for most baseball fans, even those that call themselves dedicated fans, still look at batting average as the #1 indicator for hitting performance, when that just isn't the case. "Misleading" was probably the wrong word to use though. Believe me, I've gone full blown sabemetrics in the last year or so. wOBA is my favorite stat for hitters. FIP and xFIP are my favorite stats for pitchers. I just don't see how hits divided by at bats is not a good indicator of that particular skillset. If I'm wrong (Kalapse, qwerty, chw42) please tell me.

9/8 GT: Sox @ Detroit - 6:05pm CDT - CSN+
QUOTE (southsideirish71 @ Sep 8, 2010 -> 09:15 PM) Ifs, and would haves.... If we played 500 ball in April/May If we could beat teams in our division. If we didnt take a few series off against bad teams in August. The formula for winning the central is simple. Beat up on bad teams, play 500 ball against good teams, and beat your division. That is the formula for winning it. The only reason we are here is becaused we beat up on the NL and had a historic run due to that. Take a look at our record against the AL, and then look at our divisional record. We are the reason that we are in this peril at this point of the season. We have had a 7 to 8 game swing in the standings over the last month with the Twins. We had it, and we pissed it away. Hopefully someone can explain this offseason what the f*** the plan is. Because I don't see any direction from anyone. You're right. I'm just getting sick of getting punked by the same f***ing team every year.

I'm a couple losses away from giving up on the season. It just wasn't meant to be. And it's sad. If we could've played at least .500 ball in April/May we'd probably be in the lead right now.
