  1. QUOTE (JoeCoolMan24 @ Aug 18, 2010 -> 03:37 AM) Did the 2011 season start without me knowing? As far as I know, Jackson can still be traded before the season starts. How do you know we did acquire Jackson for the home stretch, and then plan to trade him this winter? Seems very possible. Who is to say that a team wouldn't be willing to part with a big slugger, and wanted Jackson in a trade? Piss and moan all you want that he is dominating for us, but don't bring up that $8M salary until we actually start paying it. So trade your top pitching 'spect for an at best 4th starter for two months only to trade him the following offseason with 1 year and 8 million bucks left on his contract? That makes little to no sense. And I know it's not 2011. But unless we're going to see a spike in payroll, how the hell are we going to be able to re-sign PK, who's assured himself a hefty payday with his spectacular play this season, find a legitimate catcher (not sure what's going to happen with A.J.), and upgrade the biggest deficiency of all, DH, on this team? This is what guys like myself, fathom and bigruss complain about most when it comes to this organization's philosophy. It worked one year in which we got career years from over half the pitching staff. But overall? It's proven to be a failure. We need to start incorporating, and not just trading away, young talent onto the major league team because we're obviously not the Yankees. We can no longer play the "well, none of these guys have come back to haunt us yet" card. Gio Gonzalez has had a fine season for the A's. Chris Young was an all-star. I won't mention Clayton Richard. Because he helped net us Peavy. I'd do that trade over and over again. But now it looks like Hudson will be a guy we regret trading away. If only because he'd be dirt cheap until his arbitration years came up.
  2. QUOTE (JoeCoolMan24 @ Aug 18, 2010 -> 03:11 AM) So 3 starts don't convince you that Edwin is "cured", but 3 starts convince you that Hudson is so great? Didn't say that he was great. But I feel he can be just as good (and I thought this as soon as the trade was announced) as Edwin at 8 million bucks less. Now we're going into next year with a rotation at 50+ million and no 1B, C and DH.
  3. QUOTE (JoeCoolMan24 @ Aug 18, 2010 -> 02:52 AM) Until Jackson starts sucking, you honestly have nothing to complain about. Has Hudson been good? Yes. Has Jackson been just as good, if not better? Yes. Jackson is doing it against DH's, while Hudson is doing it against pitchers. I have about 8 million reasons to complain. You guys can keep ignoring the salary issue if you want. But it's a huge factor. DHs and pitchers? A s***ty Detroit offense that's been torpedoed by injuries and the Orioles? Not very impressive. I'm not saying Hudson is Strasburg. But I'm sure as hell not convinced Edwin is 'cured' after three starts against two mediocre offenses.
  4. QUOTE (greg775 @ Aug 18, 2010 -> 01:06 AM) I think his post makes sense in he's saying because of the utter venom on here this year we really don't deserve a title. I don't know about message boards of other teams, but wow ... this one is NEGATIVE. Even when we were 25-5 it was ultra negative. Weird. It's the economy, baby. That's something else that pisses me off. It's quite clear that more than half this board follows ONLY the Sox and knows little to nothing about baseball away from the Sox. You want venom? Go to ANY Red Sox Board. It's not even close.
  5. Is Aroldis Chapman dead?
  6. I'm getting so sick of the Hawk wannabees around here. Look, back in April when everyone was freaking out, I was the main person telling everyone to CALM THE f*** DOWN! The season is young. But it's not young anymore. We've got just over 40 games to go. And there's a very disturbing (more like frightening) trend occurring that looks awfully familiar. Other than 2008 (I don't count 2005. The Twins were never in it), whenever it's come down to us and the Twins, we get a mandingo sized dildo shoved up our asses. And even '08 happened because we got a home game we didn't deserve. And what really scares the s*** outta me is that the Twins are clearly better than us without Nathan for the whole year and Morneau for the last 5 weeks. What if those two were healthy? It'd already be over. The gap between us and the Twins is widening. And this organization just seems like it's running in quicksand.
  7. QUOTE (sircaffey @ Aug 17, 2010 -> 09:26 PM) 8 K throw 3 IP. Finished with 10 Ks in 7 IP. Tough luck loser. And for all the "he's doing it in the NL" talk. The Brewers and Reds have two of the most potent offenses in baseball. Not just the NL. Just a pathetic trade. You knew eventually KW trading prospects at this ridiculous rate would come back to ram him in the ass. Gio Gonzalez and Daniel Hudson would look awfully good right now. Not to mention Chris Young. And there's no hindsight here. I hated all three trades.
  8. QUOTE (J.Reedfan8 @ Aug 18, 2010 -> 12:14 AM) Seattle is so terrible they are irrelevant. I was literally only checking on Felix's numbers and Frankin's UZR on that team. I've even lost alittle interest in Ichiro sadly and he's one of my favorite players to watch. How could you lose interest in one of the top 5 players in baseball the last 10 years?
  9. QUOTE (iamshack @ Aug 18, 2010 -> 12:11 AM) And that he was traded to Seattle before that? Ace=fail
  10. QUOTE (J.Reedfan8 @ Aug 18, 2010 -> 12:01 AM) Shame too... In a weak AL Cy Young race, he might be costing himself (for better or worse with our sox and negotiations) the chance of a Cy Young this year (especially with wins which sadly most voters look at and position of team). Might be good to be Trevor Cahill, David Price or Jon Lester right now (poor King Felix) and Cliff Lee is in the NL now. Too much bourbon?
  11. QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Aug 17, 2010 -> 03:17 PM) Let's be real here. The anticipation of what is coming is ALWAYS way cooler than what is going on... regardless of the situation. We're all starved for football while we've watched 118 games of baseball. It was no different when Spring Training rolled around and the Blackhawks were vying for a Stanley Cup. Hockey does not apply here. Sorry.
  12. It'd probably bother me if I didn't love football so much. I do feel when the playoffs roll around that baseball kinda takes center stage again. But I see your point. Nothing you can do. And you didn't even mention college football. Which I feel is more popular than the NFL. I have to disagree with you on one thing. When the Cubs and Sox were making their runs in 2003 and 2005 it was like the Bears didn't even exist. So if the Sox can somehow win the central, they'll definitely be the top dog even with football season in full swing.
  13. As bleak as things are looking for the Sox right now, we should be thanking the baseball gods. Because we'd have NO chance if the Twins had somehow acquired Lee. I'd be in full "tank the rest of the season for a better draft pick" mode.
  14. The Rays are putting on a defensive clinic. They've made 4 outstanding plays in 5 innings.
  15. Lee vs Price living up to the hype and then some. Anybody with extra innings or the mlb.com package should tune in if you have some time.
  16. I was a Saber hater a couple years ago. It was just too much thinking for me. I'm a brotha. And brothas don't like to think. The traditional stats were so much easier to understand. But I must say, I've become a semi-Saber lover (mostly because I understand most of them now). I wouldn't get down and have sex with them like chw42. But they're good for the game and are great at breaking down individual seasons and the true talent level and value of players.
  17. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Aug 16, 2010 -> 04:20 PM) Cliff Lee with a 15.22 K/BB ratio. WHAT?!?! Welcome to 2010. How do you not know this? That stat alone might net him the Cy Young.
  18. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Aug 16, 2010 -> 02:51 PM) And you didn't even mention the pitcher who has the 2nd best ERA. He's having one of the luckiest years in recent memory.
  19. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Aug 16, 2010 -> 02:30 PM) Probably, although Jon Lester should probably be in the conversation as well. Definitely. This has actually been a rather tame year for the AL as far as legitimate Cy Young candidates go. There's a lot of guys having really good years. But there's not one or two guys that jump out at you and say 'he's a lock.' Now in the NL, wow. Johnson, Wainwright, Halladay, Ubaldo. I kinda feel sorry for the voters this year.
  20. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Aug 16, 2010 -> 01:19 PM) Cliff Lee vs. David Price tonight. Top two AL Cy Young candidates?
  21. Just came across this article at espn.com http://espn.go.com/blog/sweetspot/post/_/i...ut-indefinitely The bolded parts literally make me want to vomit. But we couldn't find any at-bats for Thome.
  22. If you made it through the '94 strike, you'll be fine. Trust me. But yes, It's looking more and more like the true talent level of this team is finally coming to the forefront. Let's face it. That 26-5 run was not really this team. If the Yankees, Red Sox, Rays or a healthy Phillies team go on a run like that, you know it's legit.
  23. Is it me, or does Mike Stanton have more raw power than any player in baseball? He's built like he's from some state-of-the-art baseball laboratory. A whopping 30 of his 56 hits have gone for extra bases. And these are ropes, missiles and bombs he's tattooing. No cheapies with this guy. He's slugging .569 with an ISO around .300. And the dude is 20! He's going to K. No doubt about that. But 40-45 HRs next year seem a foregone conclusion to me. I'm drawing a total blank right now. Has anyone ever done that at age 21?
  24. Well, I'd say having Mauer, Morneau, Nathan and Santana most of the last 6 years is a pretty good start.
  25. Also wanted to put it out there that if you know you're busy with your job, family or whatever DO NOT JOIN! If you have any doubts that you'll be active all year DO NOT JOIN! This is pathetic that in some of the baseball leagues that we've got maybe 5 guys tops actually participating.
