  1. QUOTE (iamshack @ Aug 3, 2010 -> 01:36 PM) Furcal is actually closing fast...this is the issue with UZR...it is very dependent on a player's opportunities out of his zone... I meant among AL shortstops. I think Furcal deserves the award in the NL. Nobody in the AL is close. And that includes Andrus, who I've been in love with for about three years.
  2. QUOTE (iamshack @ Aug 3, 2010 -> 01:33 PM) Isn't it voted on by the players and coaches? Yeah, I should've been more specific. And to whitesoxfan 101, it's not even close. Alexei is pwning his position defensively. Go to fangraphs. Edit: Shack, it's actually managers and coaches. Had to double check.
  3. QUOTE (maggsmaggs @ Aug 3, 2010 -> 01:31 PM) I think his high error count as compared to other guys in the AL like Jeter/Izturis will hurt him in the end. He clearly deserves it, as he has been simply amazing out there, but voting for this award is horrible. They should just abolish the damn award. The voters have made a mockery out of what was once a legitimate accomplishment.
  4. QUOTE (whitesoxfan101 @ Aug 3, 2010 -> 01:27 PM) Anybody know what Austin Jackson's BABIP is? Has to be through the roof with as much as he strikes out. Combine that with a low .400's slugging, and I think a regression is in order for him. .422. It was actually like over .500 through May.
  5. QUOTE (justBLAZE @ Aug 3, 2010 -> 01:25 PM) Add me Squert. Alexei is making s*** look easy over there. I'm going to give the Gold Glove award one last shot. If Lexi doesn't get it, the award is dead to me forever.
  6. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Aug 3, 2010 -> 01:22 PM) How in the world is my Impeach Kotsay movement not overflowing with people yet? Add me.
  7. QUOTE (ChiSox_Sonix @ Aug 3, 2010 -> 01:20 PM) Ya the offense can't let up at all here. Try and make them use as much of their pen right now as possible. And about Pierre, he has actually been pretty good since his terrible start to the year. Pretty good? Now that I look at the numbers, and you factor in his defense, he's been outstanding. Yes, I used the word outstanding to describe Juan Pierre.
  8. QUOTE (J.Reedfan8 @ Aug 3, 2010 -> 01:16 PM) I will always hate Juan Pierre (I hate him the second most on ST behind Kalapse) and yes, I will actually give him praise for hitting a ball farther than I ever thought he would hit a ball. Congrats Juan. Second? That's debatable. I wish the search function worked. I killed JP in 2006 when he was a Cub.
  9. I hate to admit this, because I just don't like JP, but he's been a fine player since that horrific start to the season.
  10. QUOTE (Brian @ Aug 2, 2010 -> 03:39 PM) Was gonna try and get Carlos Gonzalez to jump out of a cake for J4L, but he thought it was wierd. True. Now Clayton Kershaw? Oh yes. And thanks, guys. I'm off to the strip club. I'll probably be posting in the drunk thread around 2 or 3 tonight.
  11. QUOTE (AWhiteSoxinNJ @ Aug 1, 2010 -> 12:36 PM) All it is proving is that Jackson is more of a reliable pitcher then Hudson at this time. They're are MUCH better ways to prove that than using Jackson's win total from the last three years vs a guy with 6 career starts. That's like me saying "Hey, Ted Lilly is more proven than that Strasburg guy because he has more wins since 2007."
  12. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Aug 1, 2010 -> 11:33 AM) unnecessary I'm sorry. But when you say Jackson has won 26 more games over the last three years than Hudson you're just begging to get criticized.
  13. QUOTE (Hawk09 @ Aug 1, 2010 -> 10:35 AM) Looking at Edwin Jacksons game logs over the last three years shows that his record is as follows: vs AL teams not including Sox 28-13 ERA 3.81 vs Sox 2-5 ERA 7.11 vs NL 3-12 ERA 5.95 Obviously, the Sox love fastball pitchers and own Edwin. The NL is a fastball hitting league and they hammer Edwin. The AL is a offspeed league and Edwin owns them. Unless the Sox make the World Series, Edwin will not face the Sox or the NL this year. That puts him in his comfort zone. I think he will be a good addition, and can help the Sox the next 1.33 seasons. He will cost the Sox roughly 9.5 million more in that span than Hudson..but he has won 26 more games vs the AL over the last three years than Hudson, who has won 2. He has a good ground ball ratio of 51% which works in Soxpark with our defense. He owns Detroit and Cleveland, two teams we play a lot the next two months. He is already scheduled to pitch vs Detroit twice in the next 10 days. I like the Jackson deal. This is one of the worst posts ever. lol.
  14. QUOTE (greg775 @ Aug 1, 2010 -> 12:33 AM) IMO, they kicked our ass that entire series as they usually do. Bobby didn't give them any significant mojo more than they always have. The Twins beat us 3-4 w/out Morneau. They own us. Thanks to Thome we won that playoff game which we only won because of the coin flip. I don't get how you can call me negative yet you think the Twins are going to win the division rather easily. I never said we couldn't win the division. I just think we'd get smoked by any one of NY, Tampa or Texas.
  15. QUOTE (greg775 @ Jul 31, 2010 -> 10:43 PM) Yeah, good post. That is about right. I know this doesn't belong in this thread. But I'm pissed. The Twins have won 7 freaking games in a row. I'm sick of them. They are too good every single year only to suck in the playoffs. You know they've been on fire since a certain closer went dookie in his pants a few weeks back, right?
  16. QUOTE (greg775 @ Jul 31, 2010 -> 10:30 PM) If we make Teahen the primary third baseman, I firmly believe this team will lose all mojo it had and will finish six to eight games behind the Twinks who are going to be very very difficult to beat no matter what. It's not like this guy is a good enough player to just have the Sox say, "Welcome back to third base. It's yours. We realize Omar was a vacuum there, but we want to put you and your hole-infested glove and mediocre to slightly above average bat in the lineup on a daily basis." I think you've had Bobby on the brain too much. Are you really surprised by this? If you think Dayan is going to get regular playing time you're going to be really disappointed.
  17. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jul 31, 2010 -> 10:30 PM) We've had a young stud step up and put up a very good year with the bats each of the last 4 years. I know you're not talking about Josh Fields in 2007?
  18. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jul 31, 2010 -> 10:28 PM) If he stays in shape, a lot of those doubles will start traveling 425 feet by the time he's 25. And he doesn't look to have a poor eye. A poor eye is swinging at bad pitches. That leads to strikeouts. He's aggressive, but he's aggressive within the strike zone. I agree with this. Carlos Gonzalez, arguably the best player in baseball since the second half of last year, can't spell walk and he's doing just fine.
  19. QUOTE (J.Reedfan8 @ Jul 31, 2010 -> 10:26 PM) I believe he was compared to Uribe in his swing and follow through, not his overall offense. Though I'll venture to guess he also resembles Uribe's plate discipline, but he won't strike out nearly as much as Juan did cause Dayan has much better pitch recognition/batting eye. But at 21 though, he really is something. Looking at other clubs with guys like Heyward, Stanton, Posey, Castro, etc... it's nice to watch a kid just as young, if not younger than some of those talents and is on your team hitting. (stay out of the age thing iamshack.. ) This. I'm sick of (though I love watching) other teams with all this young elite talent. Nice to have a young stud you can truly get excited about (and I haven't forgotten Beckham. But I can't stroke him again until he gets his average up to .275).
  20. QUOTE (greg775 @ Jul 31, 2010 -> 10:13 PM) So are you telling me you predict Lillibridge will be on the roster soon over Viciedo? That means our organization has rocks for brains. I can't say for certain. But Vicedo can be on the roster. That's not the issue. Will he be used? They didn't sign Teahen to a ridiculous extension not to have him be the primary 3B (then you've got Omar who obviously warrants playing time). And you know Kotsay is going to get his ABs no matter what. So there won't be much run for Dayan regardless.
  21. QUOTE (greg775 @ Jul 31, 2010 -> 10:09 PM) Is it only Ozzie's call? If so that is kind of dumb. I love Oz but he is not the commissioner of baseball. He's our manager. Does KW and even baseball fan/owner Jerry have any say in this?? It's pretty apparent to me there is possible use for Viciedo; despite Lillibridge's nice at bats, he's not needed upon Teahen's return. Too bad the beat writers didn't ask KW today about whether Viciedo will stick with the team the rest of the year. Maybe it's assumed he will? Ozzie has just as much, if not more, influence over the roster than KW. JR is not even relevant here.
  22. QUOTE (greg775 @ Jul 31, 2010 -> 10:02 PM) Why can't the Sox send Lillibridge down? It's not like the guy is needed to be a defensive replacement. I don't see why the Sox just don't send him down. Seriously, why do we need him on the roster if you are deciding between he and Viciedo? Don't look at me. Ask your boy.
  23. QUOTE (Thunderbolt @ Jul 31, 2010 -> 09:45 PM) I can't argue with any of that. We failed to address our most pressing need. Jeff Passan is the s***.
  24. QUOTE (Thunderbolt @ Jul 31, 2010 -> 09:37 PM) CarGo finishes off a cyle with a walk-off blast against Marshall. I challenge anybody (mainly Kalapse) to name 5 better players since the second half of last year until now better than Carlos Gonzalez.
