2010 MLB Catch-All Thread
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Mar 20, 2010 -> 05:38 PM) That sounds right. It gives them room to give him a promotion and still have him up in June or July if all goes well. I think it's pretty silly, actually. What happened to the best 25 games breaking camp? He's unquestionably the best pitcher on the team. All this babying/coddling we have nowadays with young pitchers is very annoying.

Soxtalk Keeper League 2 Info
QUOTE (MHizzle85 @ Mar 20, 2010 -> 04:02 PM) You know what, if everyone else doesn't care. I'll just do that. I don't wanna have to try & re-schedule a draft since I'm sure at this point good times are scarce. I'm cool either way. Just please don't reschedule it for this coming Monday. I've got the Soxtalk#1 non-keeper draft Monday night.

2010 Chicago White Sox Spring Training
QUOTE (bucket-of-suck @ Mar 19, 2010 -> 10:48 PM) Nothing could be more irrelevant. Yes, because there's so many more relevant things going on right now. Oh, yeah, Oney resigned!

Soxtalk Keeper 1 Thread
QUOTE (ZoomSlowik @ Mar 19, 2010 -> 09:37 PM) I just pushed the draft back a week. The new date/time is Monday March 29th at 8 PM Central. On a related topic, keepers will be due on Friday the 26th by midnight, giving me time to enter all of them and for everyone to be able to plan a bit. LOL. And just as you make this announcement the guy I was talking about just signed up about an hour ago. But the draft change is fine for me. I assume we PM you are keepers? Or do we post them here?

ST: Cubs @ White Sox
QUOTE (RockRaines @ Mar 19, 2010 -> 05:47 PM) In other news, not impressed with Starlin Castro in my small look at him. Has a girls arm. Not that I mind, as I hate all things Cubs, but you seem to have some personal vendetta with Castro.

2010 MLB Catch-All Thread
QUOTE (Thunderbolt @ Mar 19, 2010 -> 04:32 PM) I think this is a biger deal then you're making it. The Rangers organization has an obligation to Josh Hamilton to protect him from drugs, Wash blatantly disregarded these rules. We saw how easily tempted Hamilton is, and to have someone who he looks up to, use it on a whim is unforgivable. It might be a flight of fancy for Wash, but for Hamilton it's an addiction. Is Josh Hamilton 13 years old or a grown man? Sorry, I don't feel for Josh at all. It's on him and only him to stay away from drugs. It doesn't matter what Washington does.

Soxtalk Keeper 1 Thread
QUOTE (ZoomSlowik @ Mar 19, 2010 -> 03:15 PM) I'm going to need to know about this fairly soon so I know whether or not I have to bug people and/or push back the draft. I sent him a PM last night. I'll send another. If I don't hear back from him by midnight I'll let you know.

Nationals Release Elijah Dukes
QUOTE (SouthsideDon48 @ Mar 19, 2010 -> 11:40 AM) If I was the GM, instead of getting Teahen, I probably would've tried to see if I can trade Josh Fields and Chris Getz to Cincinatti for Juan Francisco. Hell, even if that didn't work, I'd try and get Teahen, then try and flip him to the Reds for Francisco. What the hell? lmao.

Rumors: Sox/Reds Talking Dye for Bailey Swap
QUOTE (chw42 @ Mar 19, 2010 -> 10:27 AM) Bailey actually looked really good at the end of the season. In hindsight, this would have been a good trade to make. It would've been a good trade even without hindsight. People were so caught up in what Dye had done in the past (OH MY GOD! HOW COULD YOU TRADE THE 2005 WORLD SERIES MVP?!) instead of looking at 2009 and onward. Dye has been in decline since 2006, with last year being rock bottom. But at his age, it wasn't that surprising. The knock on Bailey was that he mysteriously lost his stuff/velocity. Bailey's fastball was routinely hitting 95-97 MPH last year. And his secondary pitches (in particular his slider) all showed considerable improvement. Basically you saw what all the hype was about in the first place. This is why you don't dismiss 22-year olds with less than 80 innings of major league experience. That's going to be a fun rotation to watch with Cueto (who I expect to breakout), Bailey and hopefully Chapman.

Nationals Release Elijah Dukes
QUOTE (Ultimate Warrior @ Mar 19, 2010 -> 02:56 AM) In my final meeting with the gods from the heavens above, as they spoke to me and hit me with the power of the Ultimate Warrior, they told me 'Exit stage left! Exit stage right! There is no place to run; all the fuses in the exit signs have been burned out! Elijah Dukes must join the white sox! It's 4:16 in the morning. And this dude just made me laugh really loud.

Official 2009-2010 NBA Thread
QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Mar 18, 2010 -> 11:03 PM) For what its worth, if the Bulls are completely healthy, I could see them upsetting/hanging in with any team in the East. They wouldn't have a chance in hell against the Cavs or Magic. They could probably "hang" with the Celtics and Hawks, but ultimately lose. The rest of the conference would be a toss-up.

Soxtalk Keeper 1 Thread
QUOTE (danman31 @ Mar 18, 2010 -> 11:36 PM) Two things: We have 11 teams. Gonna have to fix that. My keepers: Ellsbury Fielder Gallardo Hanson Debating between Danks, Bay, Porcello, Rivera for last keeper. Up for trade. I got one guy that said he wanted to join. Haven't heard back from him yet.

Rumors: Sox/Reds Talking Dye for Bailey Swap
I don't usually bump old threads outta the blue. But considering this has been the most boring spring training in years, we're still some 17 days away from opening day, and we've got threads highlighting players NCAA brackets, I don't see any harm. Was it ever determined why this deal never materialized? Did we want too much? Did the Reds not want to pay Dye's entire salary? Was it just BS from the start? I really don't remember. I'd hope that it had nothing to do with us either wanting too much (Bailey+) or refusing to part with any money to cover at least a portion of Dye's '09 salary. Because if so we totally dropped the ball. Bailey was filthy in his last 9 starts last year. And all the talk about how his stuff/velocity just vanished was all that, talk. Bailey's average FB velocity last year was 94.5. It was believed that the reason it was down in '08 was because of injuries. Of course, we had some (not naming names), that chose to ignore all that and come to their own "expert" conclusions. To those people, whatever your day job is, please, don't EVER quit it. I know it's worthless to sulk about it now. Especially when you consider that Jermaine Dye is currently rotting somewhere in baseball's abyss. But I can't help but imagine a Peavy/Buehrle/Danks/Floyd/Bailey starting 5.

2010 Cubs Thread
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Mar 18, 2010 -> 01:26 PM) If the Cubs want to move forward, they need to deal the one big contract that has value, Zambrano. Value? He's getting paid like he's Tim Lincecum or Roy Halladay (he's obviously not in the same stratosphere as those guys). Without eating a significant chunk of money, he's almost as immovable as Soriano. And this is off topic: 7.5 million for the next 2 years for John Grabow? I must've missed that. I can't remember the last time one team had as many deplorable multi-year contracts as the Cubs.

Help me get myself correct
QUOTE (Flash Tizzle @ Mar 17, 2010 -> 05:21 AM) Does anyone here squat regularly? Jesus, I did five sets of five reps on Sunday and my thighs have been sore since. It's a chore walking; especially climbing stairs. What's worst of all is it took me three times as long to complete my run because I couldn't move my legs as fast as before, and the stiffness has drained my energy. I'd really like to continue, I'm sure it'll be better as the weeks go on, but I can't keep forsaking my runs for squats. Any advice? This is a damn good question. I wanted to work squats into my everyday workouts. I did 5 sets of 10 a few weeks ago. My legs were fine until I woke up the next morning and it felt like a woodpecker had been pecking at my thighs all night. I'm 26, but I may as well have been 96. That's how incapacitated I was. I figured that since I had never really done them before that it was just my legs way of adjusting. But I'm scared s***less to try them again.

Andruw Jones spring training mean anything?
QUOTE (Kalapse @ Mar 17, 2010 -> 11:29 PM) He's incredibly fast and had much less ground to cover upon moving from CF to LF, it's certainly conceivable that he'd be among the best. I know. I was being silly more than anything. I just don't like Juan Pierre. I used to clown Cubs fans when he was with them. I can't just start liking because he's a White Sock. Now if he sports an OBP over .350, then that might change.

Andruw Jones spring training mean anything?
QUOTE (bucket-of-suck @ Mar 17, 2010 -> 08:19 PM) Pierre was among the best defensive LFs in the game last season... I don't care what the metrics say. I absolutely refuse to believe this.

The Big Board!
QUOTE (scenario @ Mar 17, 2010 -> 07:50 PM) Take away his first month in pro ball (which was abysmal) and the rest of his year was pretty decent... especially for someone his age. I mean, we could have easily had him in Winston-Salem or Kannapolis for that matter based on his age. And he probably would have raked. So should he be 'punished' because he was the youngest player in AA and had one bad month? Based on what he did from May to September, he deserves the promotion. Scenario, I know you LOVE prospects, but saying he "deserves" a promotion is ridiculous. He doesn't deserve a damn thing. Take away his worst month and his numbers look better? Well you could say that about ANYBODY. How about I take away his best month (July)? Then his numbers look even more pedestrian. I will concede that he was very young for AA. He obviously wasn't as advanced as some, mainly his agent, made him out to be. It's also obvious that he's not, nor was he ever, going to stick at 3B. So it's even more imperative that he rakes. And his power numbers last year were abysmal. Now I'm hardly giving up on the kid. But it seems to me the organization is trying to justify the 10 million dollar investment more so than actually believing he's worthy of AAA. But we shall see. I'm no doubt cheering for the kid. But we have to see substantial improvement this year or that evil "B" word that all prospects fear will start hovering over this kid's head.

The Big Board!
Wait, so Viciedo sports an OPS barely over .700 at AA last year and they're going to start him at AAA this year? Makes perfect sense.

2010 MLB Catch-All Thread
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Mar 17, 2010 -> 07:31 AM) I haven't been watching the TV version much since there's a better option, but has anyone else felt this year like ESPN.com is putting out quite a bit more quality articles on the non-Boston/NY teams than they have in years past? I agree. That was a fine article by Buster Onley. I really, really like this Alex Asapoopi (however you spell his last name). He's definitely got a solid plan in place.

2010 Cubs Thread
QUOTE (chw42 @ Mar 17, 2010 -> 12:50 PM) FanGraphs speed index of Cubs lineup 1. Fukudome - 4.4 2. Theirot - 5.5 3. Lee - 3.5 4. Ramirez - 3 5. Byrd - 4.3 6. Soriano - 4.7 7. Soto - 2 8. Fontenot - 4 ML average speed is 4.2. They have 4 above average runners and all the rest are below average. I don't know where this illusion of speed came from. xD Well, Lou is pushin' 70. He also said about a month or so ago that this team (the Cubs) is "young" and hungry.

Elijah Dukes cut by Nats
QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Mar 17, 2010 -> 10:44 AM) General manager Mike Rizzo called the release "a performance-based decision" but also implied Dukes's place in the clubhouse adversely affected the Nationals. Rizzo said the Nationals "will be a more cohesive, united group" without Dukes. "The clubhouse will be more united," Rizzo said. "We'll have a better feel around the ballclub. We'll gain just by that alone." And they'll still lose 100 games. But they'll be more united! I know we would never look at Dukes. Kenny has developed an obsession with "character" guys. But I'd take Dukes in a second over Juan Pierre.

2010 Chicago White Sox Spring Training
QUOTE (Thunderbolt @ Mar 16, 2010 -> 07:35 PM) s***, i really like Hynick too. That's bad news. It is? This dude had no future with this organization. Now losing Mitchell for the year is bad news.
