ST: A's @ White Sox, 3:05 CT
QUOTE (Thunderbolt @ Mar 30, 2010 -> 02:12 PM) It's hard to construct a lineup with virtually no power but Billy Beane appears to have done it. I could construct a lineup. Doesn't mean it's going to be any good.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Mar 30, 2010 -> 01:47 PM) He's in a fight for a roster spot with the Phillies AAA affiliate. LMAO. That was a good one, Balta. You had me goin' there for a minute.

ESPN Magazine Computer Predictions
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Mar 30, 2010 -> 11:54 AM) Young arms don't equal immediate success. You need some veterans and some leadership, and I just don't see that there. That's why I said "a couple years away." I wouldn't be surprised to see them finish third, though. They're setting themselves up nicely for 2012 and onward.

ESPN Magazine Computer Predictions
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Mar 30, 2010 -> 10:54 AM) I agree with how they see Minnesota and Detroit for sure, but Cleveland? I don't see it. They're going to score some runs. They've got a plethora of young talented arms. But they're all at least a couple years away. I will say the two trades they made in landing Carlos Santana and Chris Perez will pay big dividends this year and beyond. Especially since they gave up two older players who've already seen their best days.

Soxtalk Keeper 1 Thread
QUOTE (ZoomSlowik @ Mar 29, 2010 -> 06:52 PM) That would be me, but you have the last pick, not the first pick. I totally just got pwned. I'm new to the keeper league game. Thought I had the first pick. I forgot the league winner (which wasn't me) picks last or whatever.

Wood's 20 K's vs Buehrle's perfect game
QUOTE (SoxAce @ Mar 29, 2010 -> 01:47 PM) I still remember a quote (I think it was Biggio) stating it would be like hitting against a ghost out there as they had no clue about his stuff (only could look at the couple starts on film and scout quotes in AAA) If Kapler didn't hit that one hard hit ball to Wise for the catch, Buehrle might have had the easiest perfect game in terms of basically no great plays on defense at all ever in a no-hitter. (hell in his no-hitter against Texas, guys like Crede, Alexei, Konerko, even Dye etc.. were outstanding defensively) Do you mean Uribe?

Thank You White Sox
QUOTE (WSoxMatt @ Mar 29, 2010 -> 01:38 PM) So as none of you know, on January 3rd, 2010, my house burned down and my wife, kids and I lost 99% of our stuff...Included was at least 12 old felt pennants dating from the 2000's back to the 40's, old time pictures dating back to the Opening of OLD Comiskey Park, my 1959 World Series Program, my 2005 World Series Program, my 2005 World Series ticket stub, 2003 All-Star game tickets, 1983 All Star game Program, just TONS of white Sox stuff in general, signed balls by Thomas, Thome, bobble heads, signed Harold Baines photo, countless pics of Old Comiskey, it sucked...but I realized that it was just stuff, while I thought that stuff was the most important stuff in the world, it didnt matter to me...My kids toys, my wife's clothes, all of that was a bigger deal to lose to me... A friend of mine wrote a letter to the White Sox Organization saying that he was a Cub fan but was devastated for me and my losses, and apparently he said anything that can help rebuild my collection would be appreciated...He told me he wrote this but I didnt expect anything, Im sure the White Sox hear stories like this 10x a day and cant help everyone out that says they had a bunch of stuff... But I received a package the other day from the Chicago White Sox, a pretty beat up box, but none the less, from the White Sox...I was very intrigued...Inside was a letter from Christine O'Reilly, Senior Director of Community Relations, explaining how she received this letter from my friend..She wrote" I have enclosed a few White Sox gifts in hopes that this will inspire you to start your collection again. I hope that these bring you some comfort and joy during this difficult time." So inside the package were the following: -Jermaine Dye and Paul Konerko figurine of their 300th HRs that looks like was a gift to the season ticket holders -Signed Ozzie Guillen Sox Hat -Autographed AJ Pierzynski baseball with 8 x 10 photo -Autographed Matt Thornton baseball with 8 x 10 photo -Blown up SI cover of my avatar, Mark Buehrle's SI cover after the perfect game Now I know alot of you are probably thinking, yea big deal, I have more impressive things than those...but what amazes me is the fact that the organization took time to read my buddy's letter, gather up things for my family and I, and try to feed our passion (White Sox Baseball) during the most difficult times in our lives... I share my story to confirm what we already know, the Chicago White Sox are a Top Notch organization who really do care for their fans, and I cant thank them enough for this gesture on their behalf!! Holy s***! I thought this was going to be something corny. Really, really sorry about that happening to you. At least nobody was hurt, which is the most important thing. And, yeah, that was extremely classy of the organization to do something like that for you. Good luck, bro.

2010 AL Central Catch-All
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Mar 28, 2010 -> 07:44 PM) Gardenhire plans to try the infamous "Closer by committee" to start the year. Predicted headline in 2011: "After closer-by-committee proved wildly successful in Minnesota, 3 other AL teams are adopting it this year..." Anybody ever hear of a guy named Anthony Slama? He's been in the Twins system for three years. His numbers are filthy. I see he's always been old for his league. But a 13.3 career K/9 should warrant some consideration. http://www.baseball-reference.com/minors/p...id=slama-001ant I'm sure benchwarmin can tell us more about this guy.

Who do you want to get the last roster spot?
I'll be shocked if it's not Nix. Aquino and Hudson don't make a shred of sense right now.

Say hey, It's Kotsay
QUOTE (whitesoxfan101 @ Mar 28, 2010 -> 07:39 PM) I'm just hoping we can do what the 2009 Mariners did, only that 86 wins or whatever they had with great pitching and no hitting is good enough to win this division. Either that, or maybe we deal for a bat in July. No matter what order we bat these guys in, they still won't score runs (although significant AB's for Vizquel and hitting Kotsay 3rd ever would make it even worse obviously.) We're not even in the same stratosphere as the '09 Mariners defensively. So forget about that. We're going to have to score some runs.

2010 MLB Catch-All Thread
QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Mar 28, 2010 -> 08:12 PM) Garland is the Padres opening day starter. Man, if we traded Hudson, Torres & others for Gonzalez, their entire rotation could very well be made of ex-Sox (Garland, Hudson, Poreda (if he starts again), Torres, and Richard) Mat Latos would be in there somewhere.

Criteria for winning a Gold Glove:
QUOTE (chw42 @ Mar 28, 2010 -> 09:11 PM) It's like being a spoiled child. Would you rather have UZR or would you rather have fielding%? To totally disregard it for its few flaws and constantly b**** about it is not something you should do, especially when it's the best thing out there right now. Like I said, some of the complaints are valid. I agree that some of the complaining is over the top. I used to be one to dismiss UZR and go strictly with my eyes. But as I've read and studied (not just UZR, but sabermetrics in general), I've come to accept and, more importantly, understand them more. And the value they bring to the table. But they're not bulletproof. How does Adam Jones go from being a + defender to a negative defender in one year? Did he have a range slump? Those kinds of questions are legitimate.

I am engaged...yes thats right
I would congratulate you. But your life is, like, over now. At least have a good time at your bachelor party.

Say hey, It's Kotsay
AL projected #3 hitters: NY: Mark Teixeira BOS: Victor Martinez TB: Evan Longoria BAL: Nick Markakis TOR: Adam Lind MIN: Joe Mauer DET: Magglio Ordonez KC: David DeJesus CLE: Shin-Soo Choo TEX: Josh Hamilton ANA: Kendry Morales OAK: Ryan Sweeney SEA: Jose Lopez Other than the A's and Royals, and to a lesser degree the Tigers and Mariners, every other AL team has a legitimate #3 hitter. Mark Kotsay? Sorry, no way to spin that into a positive. Ozzie better be talking out his ass on this one.

Criteria for winning a Gold Glove:
QUOTE (chw42 @ Mar 28, 2010 -> 04:32 PM) Then people will finally stop b****ing about UZR being inaccurate... Some of the "b****ing" is legitimate. Everybody knows what the flaws are. But it's the best tool we have right now (emphasis on right now). And it looks like it's only going to evolve. I might just get that book. Looks like a really interesting read.

Soxtalk Leagues update
QUOTE (BuehrleTheAce @ Mar 28, 2010 -> 01:26 PM) Sure, will do. One dropped out so we're down to 3 only. Not sure if #3 is ever going to fly this season I sent an email to all the managers in Soxtalk #2 asking if they were interested in joining another league. I'll let you know if anybody responds.

2010 MLB Catch-All Thread
QUOTE (GoodAsGould @ Mar 27, 2010 -> 11:08 PM) Hunter is definitely begining the season in AAA, he had a late spring training and for some reason the Rangers decided to put Colby Lewis and CJ Wilson in their starting rotation so Harrison prob in AAA too. I assumed Feliz might be down there too because they want him to be a starter, and right now their rotation is full. I guess Harrison is starting in the bigs, still leaves that AAA staff with Holland, Hurley, Hunter, B-Mac, and Perez? Perez is a better prospect than Feliz anyways lol. You were right about Hunter. Perez being a better prospect than Feliz is definitely debateable (I like Feliz more). And Perez won't start the season in AAA. He got rocked in his first five starts at AA last year.

Wood's 20 K's vs Buehrle's perfect game
QUOTE (Kalapse @ Mar 27, 2010 -> 11:51 PM) http://www.baseball-reference.com/boxes/SD...200107180.shtml Thanx. I have no recollection of this masterpiece at all. Wish I could've seen it.

Wood's 20 K's vs Buehrle's perfect game
QUOTE (daa84 @ Mar 27, 2010 -> 11:38 PM) Woods was more dominant - no doubt about it ...maybe the most dominant performance ever....though i think most dominant pitching performance i ever saw was when randy johnson came on in relief to strike out 16 in 7 innings after a rain delay or something like that but the objective of a pitcher is to get outs...and in buehrles perfect game, he was more efficient at doing that than was Wood the craziest thing about buehrle is that his no-no the only guy he allowed to reach base he promptly picked off (and it was Sosa!) What game was this? And give me Pedro's game 5 masterpiece against arguably the most devestating offense of the modern era in '99 over any single-game performance ever.

Wood's 20 K's vs Buehrle's perfect game
QUOTE (Kalapse @ Mar 27, 2010 -> 07:10 PM) Actually, there have been 5 20+ K games, 4 of them in 9 innings (the other was 16 IP), 2 by Clemens, 1 by Wood and 1 by Johnson. Wood's outing was exponentially more impressive than Buehrle's. Not only did Wood K 20 in that game but the only baserunner came off a fairly routine groundball to third that Kevin Orie couldn't corral, it really should have been an error. Not only that but he had to go through Craig Biggio, Derek Bell, Moises Alou and Jeff Bagwell to get it done. It's arguably the most dominant performance in baseball history. He hit a batter too. Can't remember who. QUOTE (Cali @ Mar 27, 2010 -> 07:20 PM) They were both pretty incredible... Wasn't Woods only hit giving up a questionable call? Like it could have been an error? No doubt both guys were in complete control. Getting 20 of 27 outs by the strike out and not allowing one baserunner, both pretty equal on the scale of pitching dominance... I disagree. For a guy like Mark to throw a perfect game, so many things (like the Wise catch) have to fall in place. Wood was just blowing guys away one after the other.
