Mitchell tears tendon
QUOTE (DBAHO @ Mar 12, 2010 -> 11:37 PM) Just when I was telling people not to put too much pressure on Jared, this happens. Very unfortunate, but there's nothing you can do about it. Injury wise, it's not in a very good area obviously for a speedy guy like Mitchell who relies on his legs. Surgery wise, I wonder if they'll end up having to put a plate in his ankle, because there have been cases with different people in different sports, where that has become an issue "in terms of pain and hot spots etc." in the following years. Best case scenario would've been him challenging for an OF spot in 2011. But realistically most believed he needed at least two years (considering how raw he is). Now we're probably looking at 3-4 years. Obviously he loses all of 2010. Then you figure (assuming nothing else outta the blue occurs) that he'll need a full year just to shake off the rust and ill-effects of the surgery in 2011. This really f***ing sucks. I'm so bummed.

Mitchell tears tendon
QUOTE (Friend of Nordhagen @ Mar 12, 2010 -> 11:34 PM) This is just a tremendous bummer. Does it make me a bad person that I'm watching tonight's game and wondering why it had to be Mitchell and not, say, Lillibridge or something? Not at all.

Mitchell tears tendon
Well there goes a big reason why I planned on purchasing the MiLB package. Huge blow for the organization in multiple ways. Yeah, you hope he's healthy and recovers independent of anything to do with baseball. But can't ignore the fact that this really hurts the franchise.

Soxtalk Keeper League 2 Info
QUOTE (ChWRoCk2 @ Mar 12, 2010 -> 03:11 PM) See we got 9 now, 3 more. Everyone should post their keepers so that part of the process gets over with by the time the draft comes. Preferably in the league so it is easy for mhizzle to find. I just joined. How many keepers do we get to select? Do I just send my list to Mhizzle?

What are the chances of the Sox eating Linebrink's contract?
Santos making or not making the team doesn't have a thing to do with Linebrink. If Santos pitches well, he'll be here.

Nice article about Danks1 and Floyd
QUOTE (Kenny Hates Prospects @ Mar 11, 2010 -> 11:37 PM) The Ritchie trade sucked because we gave up value for a bunch of crap, but at least that deal didn't come back to haunt us. The first Swisher deal we did the same thing, except that one may come back to haunt us. It's kind of pointless to argue over though, since DLS is probably the only guy who would still be here anyway. Kenny didn't want Sweeney anymore and wasn't going to give him a real shot (remember the Sox playing garbage in the OF in '07 instead of calling up Sweeney?) and Kenny also wouldn't have let Gio give it up like Oakland has done. Gio still needs a lot of work and Kenny wouldn't let that happen here while trying to contend. The only thing to wonder about regarding the first Swisher deal is what might we have gotten from another team for that same package. Not saying we definitely could have done it, but the one I always think back to is Hamilton, since that was the year Hamilton went to Texas for Volquez. In hindsight, a Fields + Sweeney + Gio + DLS package for Josh Hamilton and change would have been pretty sweet for us, and it would have been very hard for the Reds to pass up. They did just that with Danks/Floyd in 2007. There was obviously something they didn't like about Gio (you don't trade a guy twice before he's even pitched an inning at the big league level otherwise). Looks to me that Gio is going to be the traded prospect that finally comes back to bite us in the ass.

ST: Indians @ White Sox
QUOTE (EvilJester99 @ Mar 11, 2010 -> 04:19 PM) I can't imagine why Oz wouldn't want Nick Johnson.... Nick Johnson is the most injury-prone player of the modern era. No thanks.

Nice article about Danks1 and Floyd
QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Mar 11, 2010 -> 01:19 PM) fixed Oh give me a break. Sox fans talk about that trade as if it were the equal to the Bedard for Jones/Tillman/Sherrill trade.

Nice article about Danks1 and Floyd
QUOTE (Kalapse @ Mar 11, 2010 -> 12:46 PM) Yeah, it's hard to write a 24 year old lefty off after only ~130 ML IP espcially when he's sporting a 9+ K/9. Unless I'm missing a real obvious one that Swisher trade is probably the worst of KW's career. The Koch deal has to be right up there. Koch gave us nothing while Keith Foulke dominated in 2003 and was nasty during Boston's title run in 2004. Of course, we did get a fluke year from Neal Cotts in 2005.

QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Mar 11, 2010 -> 12:49 PM) Worse than the Todd Ritchie deal? That deal is so overblown by Sox fans. We gave up crap to get crap. That 2002 team had no chance of winning anything anyway.

Nice article about Danks1 and Floyd
My favorite part of the article. That really is amazing when you think about it a little over 3 years later. I can't think of any GM in recent memory that's pulled off what Kenny did with these two.

QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Mar 10, 2010 -> 07:56 AM) Very sad, but you could see it coming I'm surprised he made it as long as he did. He was a walking relapse. Addicted to every drug that exists. Very sad. Hollywood can definitely break a person down. His career literally died after 1989.- 2010 Cubs Thread
QUOTE (SoxAce @ Mar 10, 2010 -> 12:32 AM) Agreed. Chapman is as good as advertised BTW. I thought he would be all arm (honestly thought his velocity wasn't as advertised either, then he's throwing 100+ mph bombs to hitters shutting me up), no control, but he's been the opposite. If Volquez returns to form, they got a nice nucleus of young pitching in the future (Volquez, Cueto, Chapman, Bailey, Leake etc..) Don't forget their position players. Votto, Bruce (who I personally think will explode this year), Phillips and Drew Stubbs. Stubbs is gonna be NICE. I like the Cabrera addition as well. Always nice to have a vet or two in there with so many youngsters.- Official 2009-2010 NBA Thread
QUOTE (DBAHO @ Mar 9, 2010 -> 09:30 PM) Bulls drop out of the top 8 in the East after they lost to Utah and Charlotte won. In their last 7 games, the Bulls have allowed point totals of 110, 111, 100, 116, 105, 122, 132. That's beyond pathetic. I'm kinda hoping we don't make the playoffs. I'd rather have a 5% shot at landing John Wall than getting smoked in 4 games (5 tops) by the Cavs or Magic.- 2010 Cubs Thread
QUOTE (sircaffey @ Mar 9, 2010 -> 11:22 PM) Of course they were below average last year. They got absolutely nothing out of LF, 2B, and C (one being the leadoff hitter which explains why they were 5th in HR and 10th in R). Not to mention they missed 80 games of their best hitter. A lot of things went wrong last year offensively. I see a lineup full of respectable hitters, minus Fontenot. It's ok to say Dempster, Zambrano, and Lilly are good SP too. I know that it goes against your stance that the Cubs suck, buts it's ok to at least acknowledge certain things. No one's saying they are going light the world on fire, but they have a strong middle of the order and a strong top of the rotation. They are not a "horses***" team. The Royals and Pirates are horses*** teams. If Soto and Soriano can get back to close to what they were the year before, I think they could contend for the Wild Card. But I guess you have taken the approach that what went wrong will likely continue to go wrong, and what went right likely won't continue to go right. The Pirates and Royals don't have payrolls at almost 140 million. The Cubs look ridiculously average (IMO, below average) on paper. Could they surprise? Perhaps. I doubt it.- wish we could go find this guy again...

QUOTE (whitesoxfan101 @ Mar 9, 2010 -> 09:22 PM) One day they'll realize they have talent. If they get can Volquez healthy and Chapman up to the majors later this season (I think I read somewhere there is something in his contract which means you probably won't see him until Mid May at the earliest), they'll have a shot at making a 2nd half run IMO. The Cardinals still have to be a very strong favorite though obviously. The Reds were my sleeper pick last year. They obviously flopped. But that team has some SERIOUS young talent. If they can put it together, an '08 Rays type year isn't outta the question, IMO.- 2010 Cubs Thread
QUOTE (sircaffey @ Mar 9, 2010 -> 04:22 PM) I don't think the Cubs are that bad. Nothing to get too excited about, but I wouldn't say they suck. Their rotation and offense are above average. Ramirez/Lee is the one of the better 3/4 in the NL. The pen sucks, but I'd peg them for 82-83 wins granted Lilly can make 27-28 starts. Their offense was below average last year. Among NL teams, they ranked 12th in BA, 10th in Runs, 10th in OBP, 10th in OPS. They were 5th in HR's. But it's never good when you're in the top 5 in HR's and only 10th in runs scored overall. And that was with Derek Lee having by far his best season since 2005. History says he won't have another season like last year. Just look at the rest of their projected lineup. You got guys either rapidly declining (Soriano), or making A LOT more money than what they actually produce (Fukodome), and just a bunch of average to below average guys filling out their lineup. I will concede that a healthy Aramis Ramirez will help. Their SP isn't all that impressive. I know their overall SP ERA was good (more indicative of how lame the NL is than anything). But what are the chances Randy Wells repeats his '09? Rich Harden, as injury prone as he was, was their filthiest starter when he did take the mound. Now they're going with Carlos Silva? lol. Lilly is hurt. Dempster is OK, I guess. Zambrano is more name than game. I wouldn't be surprised at all to see their rotation take a big step back this year. I won't even get into their bullpen. Their system appears to be in better shape than it has been the last 5 years or so (sounds familiar). But they don't have anybody that's capable of helping them this year or maybe even next year.- 2010 Cubs Thread
QUOTE (Rowand44 @ Mar 9, 2010 -> 03:08 PM) They're going to be really bad this year and probably for many years to come. You know, forgetting the fact that I hate all things Cubs, they really, really look like a horses*** team on paper. There's not one aspect of their team that looks good to me. Even with us, you know the SP will be pretty damn good. Their only saving grace is they're in the central. But I wouldn't be surprised at all if a team like the Reds finished with a better record.- Jared Mitchell is playing like a #1 prospect
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Mar 9, 2010 -> 02:17 PM) Do you honestly think that people would be willing to keep buying two million or so tickets a year while the minor league system developed as we quit bringing in replacement players via trade? QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Mar 9, 2010 -> 02:20 PM) Which means we would be a 65 win team for years until we caught lightning in a bottle. No thanks. Kenny can keep dealing prospects for proven players as far as I am concerned. I see your overall point. But I don't see anything wrong with being able to filter in your own talent every now and then. Your minor league system ideally is used to both filter in younger, and more importantly, cheaper talent, or to trade for more established players. Our minor league system under the KW era has been used solely for that latter. And this philosophy has proven over time that it doesn't translate to year in and year out success (two playoff births in 9 years under KW isn't gettin' it done). I guess the best example I can come up with as far as being able to do both (trade for proven players while being able to filter in your own talent) is the Atlanta Braves during that spectacular run of 14 straight playoff births. I realize how rare that is. But other than the Yankees, most teams that consistently get to October are able to produce from within. - (Insert Celeb Here) is Dead
