  1. Just woke up 5 minutes ago. I turn to ESPN news and see the Peavy breaking news. I almost croaked. I'm not about to read through 36 pages. Can somebody just answer me is the only obstacle in this trade being completed is Peavy agreeing to it?
  2. QUOTE (SoxFan101 @ May 20, 2009 -> 04:33 PM) Any chance we look at Tanner Scheppers with our first pick? It would all depend on his health. That's the only reason he didn't go in the first-round last year. If he's medically cleared to go, I'd be all over him.
  3. Volz was a guy I thought the Sox should target early a month ago or so. But his stock has definitely been slipping of late. I read the velocity on his FB has gone down considerably. Not sure if that's health related or not. BA says he could slip to the third round.
  4. QUOTE (Markbilliards @ May 21, 2009 -> 12:09 AM) Although they're a lot better than they used to be, BA is usually very based on numbers and not factors like swing and mechanics. One thing that Danks does that probably has prevented him from seeing power in the past is his lack of leg kick. I used to think that. But I became a subscriber back in February and their premium content goes into much deeper depth than raw numbers.
  5. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ May 20, 2009 -> 11:50 PM) The guy is one of the premiere athletes in the minors. Your talking about a gold glove caliber defender and a guy with a very pretty swing who has at least 15-25 HR power and if he learns to turn on the inside pitches, 30 HR power. You dont' give up a guy like that, absolutely not, especially if your already giving up other guys and when you factor in the Sox significant needs for a legit CFer, it makes me want him more. And say what you want about the strikeouts, but Jordan Danks is a far more polished hitter than a Josh Fields or Chris Young. He has a stroke that projects to hit for a higher average and as he develops should be a solid OBP guy as well. Bottom line you are talking about a potential .280-.310, 20-30 HR, 90 RBI, 20-30 SB, .350-.380 OBP, type of guy all while playing a plus CF. Yeah, thats the potential to be one of the best CFer's in the game, maybe our Curtis Granderson. It's not all in the college stats my friend and that is coming from someone thats seen him a few times in person and many more times on TV. You're being awfully optimistic there. I'll concede that I haven't seen one minor league baseball game this year (I'm thinking about getting the MILB package), but I practically live at baseballamerica.com and I've never read anything that even remotely suggests that kinda future power. Yes, I realize he's a gifted athlete. But so are guys like Brian Anderson and Chris Young. I can't really comment on his swing. Like I said, I haven't seen any minor league games this year. But a pretty swing means nothing when you K that much. I'm sorry. I've been burned too many times with White Sox prospects in the past. If you can keep him, fine. But if it's ever to be found out that a proven ace could've been had but wasn't because we didn't want to part with Jordan Danks you'll see 2006 Flash Tizzle-like b****ing and moaning from me for the rest of the season.
  6. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ May 20, 2009 -> 11:49 PM) Eh, Hall of Fame stuff, but even my untrained eye could tell that his arm was going to fall off eventually. Yeah, his mechanics screamed future problems. Either way, I'm glad he's probably just going to be at best an above average pitcher from this point on.
  7. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ May 20, 2009 -> 11:41 PM) That gives the Sox 4 long term starters, 3 of which are at a fixed price. I don't mind it. I like Richards and Poreda looks like a nice reliever, but I accept both of those guys going, the big question to me is who are the PTBNL. If its Danks and Beckham hell no, heck, even if its Danks and Hudson or Carter I'd have my doubts. Not because I don't think Peavy is badass, but rather that Peavy's contract is expensive so anyone willing to take on 18.5M in this economy certainly wouldn't have to give up 4 big leaguers, all of which are freaking CHEAP. Can somebody explain to me the love affair with Jordan Danks? I'm not trying to be a smartass here. His college stats certainly weren't mind-blowing. And haven't we learned with guys like Chris Young and Josh Fields that guys who K that much at the minor level are destined to suck at the ML level (and I'm officially off the Chris Young bandwagon. He f***in' blows).
  8. QUOTE (SoxFan562004 @ May 20, 2009 -> 11:34 PM) http://www.baseball-reference.com/players/...=Career&t=p About a run higher on the road, but he always has a good K/9 ratio which is important. Anyone see the gb/fb ratio, that's what's really imporant if you're coming to the Cell as your home park His career GB/FB ratio is 1.08. Not great. But it doesn't have to be when you have career K/9, BB/9 and K/BB rates of 9.02, 2.90 and 3.11.
  9. QUOTE (maggsmaggs @ May 20, 2009 -> 10:51 AM) My plan is Olive Garden with my family Saturday night. Sunday morning, cliff bar and Propel. Lots of water throughout this week, too. Will definitely let you guys know how it turns out. My goal is sub-90 minutes. I've been running 90 minute treks five days a week since the beginning of April. What do I eat right before? Not a damn thing. I never eat before any kinda workout. Maybe a protein shake. That's it. Food slows me down. If you feel you have to eat, make sure it's something really light. And another reason I don't like to eat before working out (especially before running) is the possibility of having to, um, take a s***. lol. I f***ing hate when I'm in the middle of a run and I get the runs. So be very careful. And like somebody said earlier, don't drink too much water before your marathon. You don't want to have to stop multiple times to take a leak.
  10. QUOTE (SoxFan1 @ May 20, 2009 -> 11:26 PM) This would be a pretty insane move, and would REALLY come out of the blue. We'd be taking on a good chunk of salary, but damn Peavy/Buehrle/Danks/Floyd/Colon is pretty damn solid. Hey, I guess after landing Jay Cutler anything is possible. And imagine the absolute chaos that would ensue on the other side of town if this were to happen. I think it would cut deeper than the 2005 title.
  11. QUOTE (Markbilliards @ May 20, 2009 -> 11:22 PM) It would be a real slap in the face if they traded Jordan Danks after he and John both ditched Boras for the sake of the Sox. Um, who cares? Jake Peavy, my friend. I repeat...Jake Peavy!.
  12. QUOTE (BigEdWalsh @ May 20, 2009 -> 11:14 PM) I would also hope it wouldn't include Jordan Danks. Jordan's K% would make Josh Fields point and laugh. He's gone as far as I'm concerned if it helps us land Peavy.
  13. QUOTE (SoxFan562004 @ May 20, 2009 -> 11:08 PM) It is very flat now, he doesn't have the electric movement he had... and one of the analysts on the MLBN, either Magraine (sp?) or Mitch Williams, said that his mechanics are still bad and he's still leading with his elbow. I'm not gonna lie. As a Sox fan, I think it's wonderful that he's fallen off so much. But as a pure baseball fan, it is 'kinda' sad that it looks like injuries are going to rob him of a potential HOF career. He was better than Santana for a long stretch in 2006.
  14. I had no idea about any of this until just now. Never bothered to look in the pure speculation thread. Too good to be true. Other than Beckham, anybody else is fair game.
  15. So Verlander has suddenly become 2001 Randy Johnson. His K/9 has to be something like 13 in his last 4 or 5 starts. This after never registering a K/9 over 8.17 in 2007 (not that that's bad) and average K rates in 2006 and last year. Performance enhancing drugs anyone? I don't think that's the case. But it just goes to show you the double standard there is. If a position player belts 10 HR's in 20 games he's automatically suspected of cheating.
  16. I wonder do they have "The continuing fall and decline of Francisco Liriano" threads over at Twins' message boards. His stuff flat sucks now. Great win. We can officially make it a "streak" with a win tomorrow.
  17. QUOTE (JDsDirtySox @ May 20, 2009 -> 10:29 PM) Is Josh Fields the worst starting 3b in the majors? Garrett Atkins and Adrian Beltre have been pretty awful (Beltre still gives you great D). But when you factor in defense, I can't think of a worse all-around 3rd baseman than Josh at the moment. I swear I've f***in' had it with White Sox prospects. I'm not getting excited about any of our current "studs" at BHAM until I see them actually prove to be something other than inept at the ML level.
  18. Still way too early to determine if the extension was a mistake or not. But Gavin is straight bad right now. You got some guys who are struggling (take Jon Lester for example) who's peripheral stats suggest he's throwing better than his ERA suggests. That's not at all the case for Gavin.
  19. Did anybody just see what happened to John Lackey? LMAO! Dude is making his season debut and gets ejected after two pitches. He threw the first pitch behind Kinsler. The second one actually hit Kinsler and the ump tossed him. There was clearly no intent on Lackey's part.
  20. QUOTE (JustWin @ May 16, 2009 -> 03:30 PM) Not sure why I'm being singled out. Do you really have to ask that question?
  21. QUOTE (JustWin @ May 16, 2009 -> 03:17 PM) Ok seriously, what's your problem? I'm not the only one who hates that the Cubs have been really good and posts about it in this damn forum. You want me to talk more about liking the Sox? Have you seen the way the Sox have been playing lately? There's nothing positive to say about them right now. Sheesh, why did I bother joining this forum if you all are going to harp on me? LOL. Calm down. I'm pretty much clownin' around.
  22. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ May 16, 2009 -> 03:09 PM) You're right, we should focus more not on the guys who are supposed to do poorly doing just that, but rather on the guys who are supposed to be productive not getting the job done. I pick on Lillibridge and probably shouldn't, but I think my frustration with him is more frustration with management having him on the roster. Danks looked like a Cy Young favorite for 3 starts and now doesn't look like he can get anyone out. Quentin started slow, got real hot,and is injured and mediocre again. At least we know they are capable of being excellent players this year as they have been excellent players this year for a short while. Ramirez, Fields and Floyd have mostly just been bad. Its still early, but how long do you go before its not just a slump but what you can expect from these players? I don't think we are there yet, but it is getting close. Losses when your starter gives up nothing are hard to take. Yup. If Bartolo gives up 6 ER or something like that is one thing. But he pitched a hell of a game and it goes for nothing. I still don't expect Bartolo to make it to the all-star break without hitting the DL or worse. So it's critical we take advantage of the fact he's throwing the ball fairly well right now.
  23. Oh, no! Cubs win! Cubs win! How do they do it? Watch them go on a 37-game winning streak and finally ride that momentum all the way to a breezy World Series title. Just saving justwin a few seconds by making this post for him.
  24. Josh is bad at baseball. He's got a K% that rivals Rob Deer. And at least Deer provided power. I won't even get into Fields' pathetic defense at third. Why oh f***ing why did Joe Crede's back have to die!
  25. QUOTE (winninguglyin83 @ May 16, 2009 -> 09:39 AM) I'm awaiting the trades of Dye, Jenks and Konerko. And the promotion of Beckham, Allen, Viciedo, Shelby and assorted others. Let's have the surgery and get it over with. Carlos Delgado was just put on the 15-day DL and Jerry Manuel believes he'll be out much longer than that. The Mets are obviously a team built to win right now. If I'm Kenny, I'm dangling Dye and Konerko this very second.
