  1. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ May 24, 2009 -> 02:54 AM) I do love these preconceived notions people have that they are portraying as facts. Man up? So he should just accept any trade he is in, completely negating the value of his NTC? I also think it's fair to assume there have been players in the past who would have rather been in other places than Chicago when they were actually here, and they produced very well, while there have been others who did want to be here and they struggled. I want good players, period. They are leaving the door open, no matter how "open" it is. If Peavy said he'd accept a trade, his $22 million option be damned, I guarantee you KW wouldn't say "Oh, well I was just saying the door was open, it's not actually open." I can almost guarantee the reason he did not accept a trade to Chicago is because of money, and it has nothing to do with AL/NL. And it should be. The guy is in a fantastic situation for him, personally - great city, very valuable contract, great ballpark - and it should take a huge commitment from another team to get him to waive his NTC. If you can't give him $18 million extra, he's just politely going to say "No, I'll stay in San Diego, but I appreciate your interest in me." ... I'm not going to cling to hope and lose sleep and have my mind wander over the possibilities of Peavy in a Sox uniform like I was two days ago, but to suggest that every door is shut and that Peavy would never, ever, ever, accept a trade to the Sox is ludicrous. f***a you wite. I hate when you make cense. It's muchh easizer for me to hate peavy with the heat or something of 1000 suns and jus think he doesnt want to pitch in the al. thank u for ruin my fun. and yez. i just had 4 straiugt shots of bourbon
  2. QUOTE (BearSox @ May 23, 2009 -> 09:08 PM) Contreras got rocked. 5.2 IP, 8 H, 2 BB, 8 K, 7 R, 5 ER I think it's about time we try and see what he can do in a relief role. 2010 can't get here soon enough as far as Jose is concerned. Thank you for eternity for 2005 and most of 2006, Jose. But you f***in' suck.
  3. QUOTE (BearSox @ May 23, 2009 -> 09:15 PM) I'm glad we won, but lets not get too ahead of ourselves. It is the pirates and they look absolutely pitiful. They have two decent looking hitters in Nate McClouth and Andy LaRoche. Morgan doesn't look to bad either. But the rest of the hitters look awful. Plus, the offense isn't quite there. A total of 6 runs vs. 2 average pitchers. However, hopefully the W's lead to some momentum for us. Pretty much says it all here. I can't remember the last time I was less enthused by a couple of White Sox wins. It's gonna take an extended run (at least a couple weeks worth of games) before I fool myself into even semi-thinking this team has a legit shot at anything. Very good to see Alexi waking the f*** up. Let's hope Q gets the memo soon. As for Pods, Anderson and Fields? Well, I'll just say they're better hitters than me.
  4. QUOTE (whitesoxfan99 @ May 23, 2009 -> 10:17 PM) Note to George Karl, have someone who is a good passer inbound the ball in late game situations you moron. George Karl's playoff record speaks for itself. I knew I shouldn't have hopped on Denver's bandwagon. They've now been dismissed. QUOTE (MexSoxFan#1 @ May 23, 2009 -> 10:27 PM) How stupid do the Bulls look not trading Gordon,Hinrich and Deng for Bryant a couple of years ago.I so wanted that trade because Kobe is still the best closer in the game,IMO. The Lakers were NEVER going to trade Kobe Bryant. And a team with Kobe and I guess Andre Nocioni and a bunch of scrubs wouldn't do a damn thing anyway. QUOTE (WilliamTell @ May 24, 2009 -> 01:37 AM) John Stockton's against the Rockets in the Conference Finals was a good one, only to lose to the Bulls for the first of two times. I remember that series like it was yesterday. I thought Eddie Johnson's buzzer-beater in game 4 was one of the absolute best ever. His initial reaction immediately after the shot went in was priceless. Man I miss 90's NBA on NBC.
  5. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ May 19, 2009 -> 03:46 PM) You have to wonder if people don't like his stuff as much because of the fact that he doesn't feature the good fastball and is already so developed or if its really because his other pitches aren't that good. I've seen him pitch and he made guys look ridiculous in college. Not in the Strausburg sense but he still had a great handle of things and his velocity is good enough. I'd say he's a more complete version of Broadway as opposed to McCulloch and I expect him to be off the draft board when the Sox pick. Not a power pitcher but a shot to be a #2 or #3 and that ain't bad. I probably pass on him though if he was around at 23, but it depends on what else is out there. In my best Chris Tucker voice...Don't you EVA, EVA...EVA, EVA, EVA EVA, mention Lance Broadway's name in conjunction with any potential White Sox draft pick as long as you live. And Mike Leake with a sick performance against UCLA last night (9 IP, 4 H, 0 ER, 0 BB 12 SO).
  6. QUOTE (smalls2598 @ May 22, 2009 -> 05:42 PM) The Score just reported that Rich Harden was placed on the DL with back pain. 7th time since 05 that he's been DL'ed Maybe now will stop hearing "I can't believe that's all the Cubs gave up for Harden!"
  7. The Lakers have flat nobody that can matchup with Carmelo. He's just physically man-handling anybody (including Kobe) the Lakers put on him. He might be the second toughest matchup in the NBA outside of Lebron. They already have nobody that can even bother Billups. I expect J.R. Smith and Chris Anderson to play much better at home. I fully expect Denver to win the next two games.
  8. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ May 22, 2009 -> 09:39 AM) 10-26-2005 3628 posts. Not close to the record, but almost one of the 10 busiest days in Soxtalks nearly 7 year history. I think it would've been a lot closer had p**** actually agreed to the trade. Then all hell really would've broke loose.
  9. Considering our current talent level, we're in no position to think about sweeping anybody (even the Nationals. And even they have a better offense than we do). 2/3 and a 4-2 homestand would be more than anybody could realistically hope for.
  10. QUOTE (maggsmaggs @ May 21, 2009 -> 04:56 PM) Well when you do races, especially 13.1 miles, you need the food before the race to keep you going after mile six. If you don't have the energy from the pre-race meal, there is no way to keep your pace. On training runs with modest paces, you can get away without food. This is a race? Oh ok. Well do your thing then. Still be careful with the amount of fluids you take in.
  11. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ May 21, 2009 -> 05:52 PM) For anyone that asks where Betemeit is...the two errors he made today are why he's never in the lineup. He's a f***ing butcher in the field. We have beyond a shadow of a doubt the worst 3rd base situation in baseball. Might even be worse than the blackhole that is CF.
  12. My favorite part of that article. What the hell is better aligned with the NL supposed to mean?
  13. QUOTE (SoxFan1 @ May 21, 2009 -> 11:32 PM) An opt-out clause every year? f*** THAT. Tell me about it. Peavy can go fist himself. As if the guy's got 4 World Series rings or something. No one player is worth that ridiculous crap.
  14. It's like the first two games of this series never happened. This team just has too many holes to put together any kinda sustained winning steak.
  15. QUOTE (SoxAce @ May 21, 2009 -> 02:47 PM) If I was Peavy, I wouldn't wanna come here watching this s***ty team. I was just thinking what a way to impress a guy that has reservations about coming here.
  16. Whatever. I'm not going to f*** up my whole day over what appears to be a bunch of BS. I'm going out for my run. AND f*** THE MEDIA AND INTERNET!
  17. As long as Jake comes out and admits he wants no part of the AL I won't even be that mad. That's obviously the case. If he comes out and says something like "I really love SD. This is where my heart is" or some lame s*** like that. He should be hung.
  18. At times I wish the internet didn't exist.
  19. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ May 21, 2009 -> 11:19 AM) Peavy is a ground ball pitcher though, plus he gets tons of K's so he should be alright moving to the AL and our hitters paradise. Plus the guy brings a lot of passion every start and would be a tremendous add to the clubhouse. His career GB/FB ratio is 1.08. So he's not really a groundball pitcher. But his K, BB, K/BB rates more than compensate for that.
  20. And this also goes to show how critical it is to have at least a halfway decent farm. If this is 2007 and we were trying to acquire Peavy, the Padres would be pointing and laughing uncontrollably at us.
  21. f***, man. I've got to get ready for a 90-minute run at noon. I'm not going to be able to concentrate on a thing today.
  22. Forgive me if this has been mentioned (like I said, I'm not going through 35+ pages), but that guy who first broke this on the MLB boards deserves a TON of credit.
  23. This thread might top any of the playoff threads from 2005 by the end of day (by top I mean total posts). This is how you spend your money. I'm glad Kenny is so "cheap." The impact of adding a guy like Peavy to the mix will be felt in so many ways besides what he obviously brings to the team.
  24. QUOTE (BearSox @ May 21, 2009 -> 10:51 AM) That is the only obstacle. QUOTE (Thunderbolt @ May 21, 2009 -> 10:52 AM) Yes, he just needs to waive his NTC. Bet. If he declines, so be it. But big, big ups to Kenny and co for going for it. And please god let this put to rest once and for f***ing all that the White Sox are a cheap organization or that Kenny doesn't care or whatever dumb s*** we've heard around here in the past.
