  1. In addition to being bad at baseball, Josh is apparently delusional as well. He thinks a good week in which he pulls his average into the .230's is supposed to have Kenny and Ozzie thinking "Oh, yeah, we've got a legitimate 3B now."
  2. Garcia, Contreras, Colon. We'd be lights out favorites to win it all 4 years ago. Wait, we did win it all 4 years ago. Let me shut up.
  3. QUOTE (Marty34 @ Jun 8, 2009 -> 05:46 PM) It's a rebuilding year and that's ok. I'm at the point where I want to see Beckham at short everyday with Ramirez at second and Fields at third. I'd rather see you at third. I'm so disappointed in Josh I can't even describe it. I loved the pick in 2004. You saw legitimate flashes in 2007. There hasn't been a worse all-around 3B in all of baseball.
  4. QUOTE (Thunderbolt @ Jun 8, 2009 -> 05:58 PM) I'd s*** on you too!!! If we get Brothers, s*** awayyyyyyy! He's the second best pitcher in this draft, IMO.
  5. QUOTE (Ozzie Ball @ Jun 8, 2009 -> 05:02 PM) Laws latest mock: I think I'll literally s*** on myself if Brothers is still on the board at #23.

Best thing I can say after this latest debacle is the MLB draft starts in just over 24 hours.
  7. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Jun 8, 2009 -> 03:56 AM) That doesn't even begin to register with me. They won the division last year, how is that not a "true contending team?" Any team that wins their division can be classified as a contender, I guess. But even the most optimistic Sox fan knew that team was so not built for October.
  8. QUOTE (lostfan @ Jun 8, 2009 -> 01:35 AM) I was 12, this scarred me until almost the end of that decade. I was devastated. I couldn't tell you much about baseball from the middle of the 90s. I really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really hate to admit this knowing what we know now. But the McGwire/Sosa HR chase was pretty instrumental in getting me back into baseball hardcore style. After the '94 strike, like a lot of people, I just lost that love I had for the game. I still followed the Sox and baseball in general. But nothing like before the strike. But those two cheating fools brought the love back.
  9. Congrats@Jason. Your crew is firing on all cylinders right now. And I for one can't wait for ASU/UNC next week.
  10. QUOTE (fathom @ Jun 8, 2009 -> 01:10 AM) The Cubs are first in all of baseball in quality starts after today. Funny comment from my horrible experience at an in-laws party tonight with all Cubs fans. They were talking about the Cubs, and a few of them go "the one player who we really need to get rid of is that Marmol guy". Cubs fans have never been known for their baseball acumen. Carlos Marmol is probably the filthiest (I obviously mean that in a good way) RP in all of baseball. As much as I hate to admit it, his BB/9 can't possibly remain at 8.33 for the entire year.
  11. QUOTE (fathom @ Jun 8, 2009 -> 12:40 AM) Their starting pitching is significantly better than ours (being in the NL helps). Hopefully CQ is back for those games and that we skip Colon's start. We're going to see Zambrano, Dempster, and Wells in the series at Wrigley. We won't match up well with no Thome in the lineup against those righties. Better? Maybe. Significantly? Not a chance. When Danks gets his head out of his ass (and his peripherals suggest he will), combined with Gavin seemingly overcoming his horrific start, I'll go with our top 3 over their top 3 without much thought. So then it comes down to Harden/Wells/Marshall vs Richard/Colon/Contreras. You could go either way here. Harden wasn't pitching that well before going on the DL for the 676th time. He'll be a major ? from here on out. I don't believe for a second Randy Wells is this good. And Marshall pretty much sucks. Clayton had been pitching pretty well before his last start (he's still obviously a ?). There's no inbetween with Colon. He's either going to give u a chance to win or the game will be over by the third inning. And Contreras pretty much sucks.
  12. QUOTE (SoxAce @ Jun 8, 2009 -> 12:46 AM) It's a good and bad thing on being in such a s***ty division. All this we are awful talk and were still only what 3.5/4.5 games out? It's good that hey, we can still win this, but probably get embarrased come the playoffs unless everyone really hits during that time, or if the pitching is just sensasional. It's bad because you're deluded into thinking you're a contender when you're really not. The last true contending team we had was in 2006.
  13. QUOTE (fathom @ Jun 8, 2009 -> 12:42 AM) You still need to be able to get a hit to score a run though, and we're 2 for our last 39 with RISP. Getz is a good example of a speed over production type hitter, and people already want him off the roster. On this home stand, we're getting killed by the long ball against our pitchers while we have a lineup with 4 or 5 players every game who won't hit double digit homers this season. Well, yeah. That kinda goes without saying. Just saying there's nothing wrong with wanting more overall team speed.
  14. QUOTE (rudylaw @ Jun 7, 2009 -> 10:37 AM) We did get some palyers in those years. Still makes me mad about the srikre in 1994. That could have been our year. Best White Sox team I've seen in my 18 years as a fan. Unquestionably better than the '05 team, IMO.
  15. QUOTE (fathom @ Jun 8, 2009 -> 12:36 AM) This team is entirely too pull-happy now. One opposite field hit all series. It's become a mental thing. Everyone's trying to do too much at the plate. The hitters know they're "going to struggle against a pitcher they've never seen before". This last week, the first inning almost went by the same script every time. Leadoff hit for Pods, Alexei gets him over, and then the #3/4 hitters don't get him in. After the first inning, the pitcher would then get into a rhythm and before you know it, it's the 5th and 6th innings and we haven't scored. Another theory is that this roster is just below average, and without anyone having huge years (like what we saw last year), we're just a mediocre team with no depth in our starting pitching, a great bullpen, and bad hitting. I do hope that everyone clamoring for more speed sees what happens when you can't hit the ball out at the Cell. Which could be why people are clamoring for more speed? And we struggle to score runs consistently anywhere when we're not hitting home runs.
  16. QUOTE (WhiteSoxfan1986 @ Jun 7, 2009 -> 05:18 PM) The Cubs caught the Reds at the perfect time, with Votto, Volquez, and Encarnacion all out. And of course they missed Cueto and Harang. I still think the Reds can contend once they get heatlthy. I agree. Their pitching/defense is pretty damn good. Their offense should improve. Especially now that we've hit the summer months. And they've got plenty of legit trade chips in their farm system that they can go out and make a move if they choose. QUOTE (greg775 @ Jun 7, 2009 -> 11:39 PM) Yet the NL won the World Series last year. The Phillies won the World Series last year. Not the NL. And the NL, for the most part, is indeed awful. Doubtful. They're just about as bad as we are.
  17. QUOTE (BearSox @ Jun 6, 2009 -> 02:21 PM) Mark Reynolds is a good hitter, he just K's a ton. Plus, he makes some of the most amazing plays you'll ever see at 3B. However, he seems to pile up the E's... but I'm sure some of those are a result of him getting to balls regular 3B wouldn't get to. But he's a solid player, he just really really needs to cut down on the K's. How much longer until we see the Rangers bench/send down Davis and call up Smoak? Isn't Smoak out with an injury?
  18. QUOTE (maggsmaggs @ Jun 6, 2009 -> 01:56 PM) I would pick him with our first pick. Since we have more picks than usual, I wouldn't be afraid to take the risk and draft him with our first pick. I still don't think he drops to us, but I think he is worth the risk. Granted, these types of injuries lead to elbow problems, but he is a top 10 talent, no doubt, and could really improve our pitching depth. He is a Cubs fan, though, but also from Indiana, so would be a good situation for him close to family. Also, a side note on Gibson, which I find hilarious is that his GF is a 5-foot nothing gymnast and he is 6-6, they just look funny together. I read that his FB was 83-86 last week. That could be just the injury. Still kinda scary.
  19. QUOTE (fathom @ Jun 6, 2009 -> 01:54 PM) It's pretty obvious that Ozzie didn't want to call Beckham up. I'm one to normally come to Ozzie's defense. I've got nothing for this one. Sowers is one of the worst pitchers on the planet. This would be an ideal opportunity for Beckham to have a breakout game.
  20. And the draft talent pool just got a little bit thinner. Kyle Gibson has a stress fracture in his forearm and won't be able to throw for 6 weeks.
  21. QUOTE (SoxFan562004 @ Jun 6, 2009 -> 11:52 AM) as much as many people would want to see a youth movement this year in the majors, it would just completely go against KWs MO to do that if the Sox are anywhere near contention. I think he would go the opposite way and try to add a veteran using the farm system. No doubt about it. We'd have to be 10 games or more out for Kenny to even think about 'blowing it up.' Kenny's biggest strength is also his biggest weakness, IMO. He's ego would never allow him to go full rebuild.
  22. QUOTE (SoxFan1 @ Jun 6, 2009 -> 02:25 AM) I couldn't disagree with any single point in your post more. Yes, watching him a couple times is enough. Actually, I'll retract the statement that "I don't want him at all." I wouldn't mind him in our system due to the potential there, but there are far better options there with our first round pick. I won't be disappointed if we pick him, but I will if it's with our first. Well we won't know who those "far better options" are until the day of the draft and it's time for us to pick. And the general consensus is that he's a legitimate first round pick. So I don't know why you think we'd be nuts to take him at #23. I could see if we had the #10 pick or something. Last year, the LSU coach, Paul Mainieri, had issues with Mitchell. He thought that he wasn't focusing on baseball as much as he should (as I'm sure you know, he's a WR for LSU as well). So his PT had diminished. During that time, Leon Landry, who's now a sophmore, proved to be a damn good defensive CF. One of the best in the country, actually. So when Mitchell got regular PT again he was put in LF. Mainieri has said that on more that one occasion that Mitchell's pro position will be that of a CF. So if he had Grady Sizmore's stance he'd have a chance to be Grady Sizemore? Don't know why he's hitting 7th. And I don't think it matters that much as far as his pro career goes. Just because a guy played a certain position or hit in a certain spot in the order in college doesn't mean that's what will automatically happen in the pros. Hell, we've got Gordon Beckham, a lifetime SS, playin' 3B now.
  23. Keith Law and Jonathan Mayo have us taking Trout with our first pick.
  24. QUOTE (SoxFan1 @ Jun 6, 2009 -> 02:01 AM) After actually watching this kid play a couple times now, I'd be extremely disappointed with that pick. I don't want him at all actually. His batting stance is almost IDENTICAL to that of Jerry Owens'. He's a supposed leadoff type hitter but bats 7th for LSU. Watching him a couple times was enough for you to decide you don't want him? C'mon now. He's got the best athleticism/speed combo in the draft. He can flat go get it in the OF. His bat appears to be a work in progress. But his tools are undeniable. And shame on you for the Jerry Owens comparison. And where he hits in LSU's order is pretty irrelevant.
  25. QUOTE (SoxAce @ Jun 6, 2009 -> 01:30 AM) He was drafted in the 1st round TWICE in back to back years. He was really good for a long time, once a highly touted spect not really cuz of his stuff, but just being a really smart pitcher, competitor, etc.. (also hardly gave up too many homers) He actually was suppose to be the better version of Buehrle, but he just never figured it out. At this point, he might have a hard time being a poor man's Buehrle actually. A poor man's Buehrle? He has no chace at even being a poor man's Lance Broadway. He's trash.
