QUOTE (SoxFan101 @ Feb 2, 2009 -> 05:22 PM) He should be back for the post-season maybe even with a couple of weeks of games to get back into game shape. Than in the west I think Lakers still easily best team so plenty of time for Bynum to get ready for championship. Not nearly as simple as you make it sound. First off, they said the exact same thing after last year's injury, "He'll be back before the playoffs." He missed the rest of the season. Secondly, 8-12 weeks, even assuming it's just 8 weeks (it will more than likely be longer), is a HUGE chunk of the season to miss for any player. Even if he were to make it back right before the playoffs (again, very doubtful), there's no way he'll be able to resume the same level of play after missing that much time. It took Bynum about half the season just to get back to the level he was playing at last year before that injury took place. If this happens in November, it's not as big a deal. But the season is already halfway over. I do agree that even without Bynum the Lakers are still the best team in the west. The west has really fallen off this year (although the Spurs are always lurking). But as far as beating one of the Celtics/Cavs/Magic, they most definitely need a 100% Bynum. And that's simply not going to happen.

Game of the season, IMO, to be played tonight. UConn@Louisville. You don't have to be a fan of either team to get stoked for this one.

Andrew Bynum out 8-12 weeks (i.e. the rest of the season) with a torn ACL. Crippling blow to the Lakers title prospects. He had really come on the last 10 days or so.

Jerry Owens
QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Feb 1, 2009 -> 04:57 PM) According to KW per the Daily Herald: Two days before SoxFest started, Williams pointed out Anderson’s skills. Maybe he’s hoping other teams read this quote: “If Brian Anderson would have played every day last year, he would have hit about .275 and would have hit 25 home runs,” Williams said. “I don't think you can disagree with that.” Two questions I would've immediately asked Kenny after that statement: If you really believe that was the case with Brian, why didn't he, um, play every day last year? Also, if you really believe Brian could put up those kinda numbers, why did you trade for an old, washed up, 39-year old to play CF?

QUOTE (Palehosefan @ Feb 1, 2009 -> 09:24 PM) Ben has always protected them to the media, even as they were getting his ass killed every week. Steelers need to completely revamp the OL in the offseason. That's actually a scary thought to think of what they could do with an upgraded line. It was pretty much a patchwork line all year.

Other than not reviewing Warner's last pass (I thought it was a fumble), the officiating was fine. All the Cardinals D had to do, much like the Patriots D last year, was get ONE stop. That's it. And the title was theirs. You give up an 80-yard TD drive in just over two minutes in that situation? Nobody to blame but themselves.

We need a back up catcher
QUOTE (elrockinMT @ Feb 1, 2009 -> 03:38 PM) I-Rod is intersting as a back up, but we know his skills are diminishing and some pitchers have a problem with his game calling Which is why he would be the perfect back up. And wasn't AJ's game calling questioned in SF?

We need a back up catcher
QUOTE (GreatScott82 @ Feb 1, 2009 -> 03:30 PM) If I-Rod would accept a backup role, i would take him in a heart beat. This may be a possibility because he is on the downside of his career. He is one of Ozzie's best friends ( i know Ozzie has like 100 best friends). That could be a selling point, KW could also make a case for him being a part time DH when Thome needs a day off. Plus with all the lefty-righty matchups, im sure he will have his fair share of pinch hit oppurtunities. If he finds a starting job somewhere, i would then look into Henry Blanco. Blanco is a Padre.

Go Steelers! I know it's vogue to always take the underdog. But I'm actually getting sick of average teams (i.e. sleepwalking through the first 12-14 games and somehow getting hot towards the end) getting to, and in some cases, winning the SB. I know the NFL and most fans love the parity. But this is getting crazy. When was the last time you could say without question the two best teams made the SB? s***, when was the last time you could actually say the best team won the SB?

QUOTE (The Bones @ Feb 1, 2009 -> 03:03 PM) Illinois recovers to win against Iowa after a tough/ugly first half. It's gonna be tough at Wisconsin. They are desperate for a win. Iowa is gonna be tough when Tate/Tucker get back. And your spot on regarding the game at Wisconsin next week.

QUOTE (danman31 @ Jan 31, 2009 -> 10:12 PM) Who the f*** is that? As for that Harris thing, complete bull. That ejection was a gross overreaction. There was no malice. He shouldn't be flailing his elbows, but that's not ejection worthy. Meant to say NWU.

Official 2008-2009 NBA Thread
QUOTE (SoxAce @ Jan 31, 2009 -> 02:56 AM) We'll see how the Bulls do in this road trip. So far, as good as the Hawks (though the Hawks just recently lost) but the good tests are comming up tonight. So far Deng has really stepped his game up and looks like the Luol Deng we want to complement with Rose now and into the future. (though we probably don't have a choice regardless with his contract) Thomas (another future core guy perhaps) and Noah (Rose made him look damn good against Sacremento ala Tyson with CP3) have also stepped it up nicely. Even Hinrich has been a nice surprise with his minutes, defense has been damn solid and assist/decision making (though he still frustrates me with his consistant dribbling out the clock + turnovers) 20-27 so far... who knows if this will get good [doubtful] (maybe a trade or two to help the future at the deadline and pack in some wins) or ugly (no trades, we start a horrid losing streak, thinking lottery, etc..) JR's backing of Pax is sad to hear. (though not all is Pax's fault but taking NO blame AT ALL? Really JR?) Not surprising. Jerry is loyal to a fault. Jerry Krause, one of the worst GMs in recent memory, would still be here had he not had to step down for health reasons.

Viciedo loses weight + leadoff hitter news
QUOTE (lostfan @ Jan 31, 2009 -> 01:51 AM) That's plenty fine actually, for most teams. Jesus. Who do you want there instead? Curtis Granderson? Hanley Ramirez? So do I. Where do you suggest KW finds one? And let's also remember that every realistic (and better) leadoff/CF option (Figgins, Taveras before he ended up with the Reds, ect) was slammed time and time again by the exact same people that loathe Jerry Owens. Basically, it's going to take a combination of prime Mays/Mantle/Griffey in CF before the whining stops. And even that might not be enough.

QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Jan 30, 2009 -> 10:11 AM) Let's not go that far. MSU has to play at illinois still and could lose another somewhere. They lost to NW, so anything is possible. We still have half the season to go. QUOTE (Buehrle>Wood @ Jan 30, 2009 -> 11:01 AM) Yeah, let's not go that far. Illinois still is the only team that hasn't lost at home. I know there's still time. But MSU has been dominant on the road while we have struggled. We've still got road games at UW (another game I don't feelgood about), UNW, OSU, PSU. I'd be happy with a 2-2 record there. So that would put a ton of pressure on us to win out at home. MSU should easily win out until their showdown with Purdue on the 17th. We shall see.

Soxtalk's Biggest Loser Club
QUOTE (daa84 @ Jan 29, 2009 -> 11:29 AM) well i've lost another two pounds, and down to 238....down 9 total...its nice to know that what i have been doing is working....and i feel alot better already...more energy, and working out isn't such a total hassle because it comes easier now...I really have to crack down the next few days because I know superbowl sunday is gonna be bad news...i'm going to try to limit myself, but i know I will end up drinking and eating too much That's exactly why I'm staying home to watch the game. I got invited to two different SB parties and I declined both of them. There would be no way I could turn down the gobs and gobs of wings/pizza/beefs/nachos/chips/beer/ect.

Had a bad feeling about this game all week. I've really got nothing to say. That was the worst performance by an Illini team in the Bruce Weber era. I kept thinking back to the Heat/Bulls game in 1999 when we lost 82-49. That's how bad it was. With MSU winning, the Big Ten title is pretty much out of reach. Which I'm not at all upset about. This team has overachieved all year. But god damn that was UGLY.

Cubs close to landing Aaron Heilman
QUOTE (RockRaines @ Jan 29, 2009 -> 11:04 AM) If I am the Pads, a 26-27 year old swingman who isnt that great in the NL isnt what I am looking for when shopping one of the best pitchers in baseball. All one has to do is look at the packages the O's and Indians hauled in for Bedard and Sabathia (and in the O's case, they raped the Mariners) to see how ridiculous it is to think the Cubs have what it would take to land a pitcher of Peavy's caliber.

Reclamation projects
Just peepin' Whitesox.com when I came across this really good article. http://chicago.whitesox.mlb.com/news/artic...sp&c_id=cws Pretty much breaks down how the Sox have been so successful at bringing in talented guys who have underachieved with their original teams, for whatever reason, only to flourish with us. This is why I can be open-minded about guys like Marquez/Lillibridge/Nix/ect. And before anybody says it, I realize that a lot of the guys we've brought in weren't AS highly regarded as guys like Q/Floyd/Jenks. But they definitely were highly regarded at one point or another.
