  1. QUOTE (Tony82087 @ Dec 31, 2008 -> 02:25 PM) Levine works for ESPN. Some interesting moves by the Cubs. Sullivan was just on The Score, and thinks Miles could lead off for the Cubs, and talked about how well liked and important DeRosa was in the clubhouse. They just removed him from the equation, and brought in a huge wild card in Bradley. I don't know why I said Score. I did hear Murph say Miles is a good defender and legitimate leadoff hitter. lol. What a dumbass.
  2. I think Levine is reporting on the Score that Bradley to the Cubs is a done deal. This would bother me if he wasn't a virtual lock to miss at least half the season.
  3. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Dec 31, 2008 -> 01:41 PM) Supposedly one of the pitchers is a decent prospect. A good enough piece of crap Hendry could pawn off in a package with more garbage for an ace. The Indians have nothing in their system pitching wise that the Cubs could have received that would be the difference maker in them landing Peavy.
  4. QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Dec 30, 2008 -> 10:41 AM) I think Roeth at least has proven that he's not a one and done - he gets his team into the playoffs. But I guess if he tanks from here on out he would be considered a fluke (though he's still a franchise style QB). Rypien and Hostetler are definitely flukes. I guess my point was that out of the 27 on that list, the overwhelming majority (19-20ish) are upper-echelon caliber QB's. Roethlisberger is terribly overrated (he's only had one pro-bowl caliber year). Might be one of the most overrated athletes in sports. The Steelers do what they do year-in-year-out on the strength of an overpowering/punishing defense and a stout running game.
  5. QUOTE (nitetrain8601 @ Dec 27, 2008 -> 12:42 PM) I was thinking more in the lines of a Chris Paul. Rose may be great in the future and he shows signs, but he's not there. Shows signs? Maybe great in the future? lol. He's been the top rookie and second best PG in the entire conference (my bad. He's no Mayo. What an impact he's had for the Grizzlies). And of course he's not Chris Paul yet. Chris Paul of today wasn't Chris Paul of two years ago. But Rose is having every bit as good a rookie year as Paul did.
  6. QUOTE (JorgeFabregas @ Dec 29, 2008 -> 06:37 PM) The Colts game was probaly a fluke, but I'm not sure why that shouldn't count as a win vs. a good team. Were any of the losses flukey? Which games are we allowed to count? A win is a win. I just don't put as much stock in that particular win considering the circumstances at the time.
  7. QUOTE (Hatchetman @ Dec 29, 2008 -> 11:59 AM) we can quibble but the entire o-line blows and beekman is hardly a building block type of guy. Maybe not a building block, but he had a pretty good year. Beekman is the least of our worries on the O-line as of right now.
  8. QUOTE (JorgeFabregas @ Dec 29, 2008 -> 11:38 AM) Not entirely true. Beat the Colts and the Iggles. The Colts game was a total fluke. Peyton Manning was clearly not ready to start the season. If we played them today we'd lose by at least 30. And I don't consider the Eagles a good team. Took two epic chokes by Dallas/Tampa for them to barely get in.
  9. QUOTE (rangercal @ Dec 29, 2008 -> 10:55 AM) I'm not excited at all. This has been the most boring offseason of all time. Maybe it's because it appears that we will cut $20 mil in payroll. What's so exciting about that? I must say the lack of activity heading into January has been a little troubling. But like Rock said, other than the NY teams, who else is out there making moves? Nobody in our division has done anything. I also don't think a lot of fans took Kenny seriously when he said he had no problem going with in-house guys (oh that's just a typical smokescreen, ect) if it came down to it. I think it's time for Sox fans to come to the realization, for better or worse, that Jerry Owens, Josh Fields, Chris Getz, Clayton Richard and Jeff Marquez will have to play prominent roles if we're to be successful in 2009.
  10. QUOTE (lostfan @ Dec 29, 2008 -> 11:06 AM) ROFLCOPTER at that sig quote, WTF. Where did you get that from? Last week's mailbag over at Whitesox.com. I was drinking some apple juice when I first read it. I literally almost choked.
  11. QUOTE (Hawkfan @ Dec 29, 2008 -> 10:46 AM) Houston is only part of what I'm looking at. When the bears were faced with a quality opponent the defense stood out as a big flaw. I will say that I give the bears credit for hanging in there with a pretty tough schedule, but they wouldn't have faired well in the playoffs at all. This is a joke, right? Our schedule sucked. And we lost to every good team we played.
  12. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Dec 29, 2008 -> 09:59 AM) If sucks=just missing the playoffs and having 9 wins, then yes they suck. It doesn't suck. But I don't like the (they won 9 games when most predicted they'd go 5-11 or 6-10 argument). First of all, who gives a s*** about preseason predictions. I swear in every sport so much is made about who predicted this and who predicted that. You go out and play the games and see what happens. Second, of the 9 games we won only three of them can be considered quality wins. Colts/Eagles/Vikings. I think by now most realize the Colts win was a fluke with a capital F. We caught them at exactly the right time (I.E. Manning was not ready for the season to begin). We'd lose by 30 if we played them now. And the two sloppy wins against the Eagles and Vikings at home were nothing to get real loud about. We took semi advantage of an extremely weak schedule.
  13. QUOTE (forrestg @ Dec 29, 2008 -> 09:43 AM) Ozzie said about Fields, fractured quote at spring training he looked like a major league third basemen later after call ups he was awful.. I believe he was referring to Josh's knee. Surgery on Josh's knee may bring Josh closer to major league level of play.. My thought is that he will be platooning with Betemit. As for Dye I believe he does play a decent right field, hits for power but what I can't understand is why there is seemingly no other team jumping on the chance to trade for him.. I believe his numbers are good in the AL and believe his numbers may be a little better in the national league why a team hungry for a power hitter has not been more aggressive in making a trade with us. I'm sure there's plenty of teams that would love to have him and have asked about him. I think it's a case of certain teams not meeting Kenny's asking price. Which should definitely be high.
  14. QUOTE (tommy @ Dec 25, 2008 -> 05:12 AM) I don't know how many of you workout, I started doing some heavy lifting about 3 months ago. It's a fact that music can help "pump" you up when in the gym, so I'm trying to put together a playlist that will be assisting me in the gym. I stumbled upon this website. They have a list on their own, I figure a lot of us here listen to different kind of music so we should be able to come up with a decent list. Anyone? Man, whoever put that list together at that site should be executed immediately! How the hell does Michael Jackson's "Beat It" get you revved up? If I went to the gym and put that s*** on I'd get beat worse than Rodney King.
  15. "The Mark has been made" by NIN. I feel like I want to beat the living s*** out of somebody when I listen to it. It really revs you up. Another good one by NIN is "Terrible Lie." Another one is "Requiem for a dream" by Clint Mansell. "Sing for the moment" by eminem is also another good one.
  16. The Rangers are loaded with stud pitching prospects. Be a shame to risk long-term injury because some old school guy wants things to go back to the way they were 30 years ago.
  17. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Dec 24, 2008 -> 09:48 AM) Hilarious reading this thread. "He's good not great, the yanks are average at best." A Whole lotta jealousy and sour grapes in here. Tex is a hell of a player and a top 3 guy at his position. It was a good addition, and the money doesnt hurt them, so who cares how much he makes. I've got no problem admitting I'm jealous. A team that won 89 games last year just signed a CY candidate, a supremely talented, flame-throwing RH who led the AL in strikeouts last year, and the second best all-around first baseman in baseball. Who's next?
  18. QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Dec 24, 2008 -> 10:59 AM) I STILL propose we close this f***ing awful thread.
  19. I must admit I do wonder at times what it must feel like to be a Yankee fan. Must be an amazing feeling knowing that whenever a big-time, quality FA becomes available you know your team has a better than 50% (more like 70% it seems) chance of landing him.
  20. QUOTE (SoxFan1 @ Dec 23, 2008 -> 03:00 PM) The Tigers rotation can't come close to sniffing what the Yanks have. This. The Yankees had what could be considered a hores*** year for them in '08 and still won 89 games? They're the lead-dog in that division as of right now. Of course, I hope they fail miserably.
  21. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Dec 23, 2008 -> 02:50 PM) Even in that case, I think it makes little sense to pile up catching prospects until he proves he can't handle that spot. Simple way to look at it IMO: what would you rather have for the next 2 years. Someone else to fill the 4/5 starter role, or someone to fill the backup catcher role behind AJ if Flowers can't cut it? Definitely the 4/5 starter role. Just dreaming a little. The Rangers are really loaded at catcher right now.
  22. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Dec 23, 2008 -> 02:24 PM) Now that we've used one of our bullets to acquire Flowers, it makes little sense to acquire a quality prospect when all we need is a reasonable 1-2 year solution as a backup. I'm still not sold on Flowers sticking at catcher.
  23. This pretty much elevates the Yankees to favorites in the AL east. If Tex worth 20 million? No. But he's one of the best players in the game.
  24. QUOTE (GreatScott82 @ Dec 23, 2008 -> 02:30 PM) wow. has the yankee payroll hit 300 mill/season yet? It's getting pretty ridiculous. But I can't blame the Yankees. They've got the money and have no problem spending it. This is all on MLB. I just can't wait to hear Teixeira say how "signing here was not about the money." I'd have so much more respect for these guys if they would just come out and say "it has everything to do with the money."
  25. QUOTE (DBAHO @ Dec 23, 2008 -> 12:58 PM) Yeah I saw that. Makes the most sense for him. The Yanks may end up in 3rd place in the AL East again which would be absolutely hilarious after the contracts they gave Sabathia and Burnett. My guess is Hank Steinbrenner is desperate to sign Manny to counter the Tex signing. That division is going to be so brutal (in a good way). Just glad we don't have to deal with those teams anymore than 6 times a piece.
