  1. QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Nov 18, 2013 -> 09:55 PM) What? LeBron blows 'Nique out of the water. I said he'd basically be like Magic in Jordan's era, meaning very similar. Less assists, more points. Jordan would be a superior version of Kobe in this era. The problem is everyone is comparing LeBron to Jordan. Compare the two to their more similar players (Magic and Kobe) and you'll get a much better idea. Q, you said LeBron's scoring would go way down. Go check out what Dominique, English, Dantley, King and Aguire averaged and say that again. You'll want to clone yourself and kick your ass.
  2. Oh, and the Nets suck. I'm going to stay away from New York teams when it comes to predictions. They always disappoint. Warriors goin' bonkers again.
  3. QUOTE (Boogua @ Nov 18, 2013 -> 08:15 PM) And the 93 Knicks gave up 99.7 PPG per 100 possesions. They played at a faster pace than the celtics too. Look, the 80s was nuts. Tons of fast breaks and tons of scoring. Jordan played in a few different eras. He played in a really fast NBA (the 80s) and a really slow NBA (the late 90s). It would be my guess that overall d rating will drop with pace, although I haven't done research because I'm in class. Eh, maybe not. d-rating accounts for pace. Yes, the '93 Knicks were very good. But they didn't have to deal with what modern defenses have to deal with. Like you keep saying, more physical, hand-checking, etc. Yet that team was no better than last year's pacers who can't be as physical, hand-check, have more space to cover, etc. QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Nov 18, 2013 -> 08:41 PM) My guess is that if you switched eras, Jordan would benefit far greater than LeBron IF you simply switched them in their prime. If not, does Jordan become the cold blooded killer in today's whistle happy NBA? Does LeBron flop as much with no calls? Does LeBron benefit from college, does Jordan make the HS to pros jump? Here's how I see it: LeBron taken from today transplanted to Jordan's time would average the same rebounds and assists, but he'd see a big drop in points. He'd also be injured more from the increased contact. Meanwhile, I feel like Jordan would average more points. If ancient Kobe can put up 27 PPG on 8 FTA, then Jordan can do the same if not better. Then I feel like LeBron would put up a stat line similar to Magic with less assists and more points. Q, I love you. I'm going to assume greg hacked into your account and posted this. Do you realize you basically said Dominique Wilkins > LeBron James with this post? greg, stop hacking accounts. QUOTE (thxfrthmmrs @ Nov 18, 2013 -> 08:43 PM) That's why you need to call it based on what translates over to different era, not physical abilities and schemes. If you give me Lebron's size, rebounding and passing ability or Jordan's heart, drive, clutch, fundamentals, and scoring ability and they are playing in the same era, it will be foolish not to pick Jordan. Did you even read the post I replied to originally? You're all draped over me but look at what exactly I replied to.
  4. QUOTE (Boogua @ Nov 18, 2013 -> 07:20 PM) I agree that defensive schemes are more advanced than Jordan's era, but they need to be because they can't be as physical as they were in Jordan's era. Also, offensive spacing has gotten much, much better which obviously helps slashers. So, yes, everything is more advanced, but that doesn't mean it would make it any harder for Jordan to score in today's era. Sorry for being part of the derailment of the thread once again. I'll stop now. That just doesn't fly. You have to prove more physical defense=better defense. You just can't. Take the '89 Pistons for instance. As good as they were on D, they allowed 104.7 ppg per 100 possessions. Then you look at the '08 Celtics. They allowed 98.9 ppg per 100 possessions. That's a pretty big difference. And like you say over and over and over again, the game favors wings/guards and you just admitted offensive spacing, due to the evolution of the 3-pointer, is better. So the Celtics have way more obstacles to overcome. And it's still not close.
  5. QUOTE (thxfrthmmrs @ Nov 18, 2013 -> 06:30 PM) I shudder to think how much better a 2013 LED HDTV would be better than a 1987 LED HDTV. But wait, having an LED HDTV in 1987 relative to rest of the TV on the market will but 100 times more amazing than a 2013 version. The more and more you talk, the more and more I find these cross ERA comparisons pointless. In essence, you are comparing a 2013 athlete with the training regimen, diets, nutrition, and not to mention, scouting report and availability of information, to a 1990 athlete without that luxury, and yet the 1990 version is still widely consider better than the 2013 version. At the end of the day, Jordan's greatness in his era is much more than Lebron's greatness in this era. You (not you, fans in general) can't have it both ways. "Jordan would score 40 ppg" or "Jordan would average 20 free throws a game" in today's era but I can't imagine what LeBron would do in the 80's. You're right. Like you said, EVERYTHING is more advanced now than it was during Jordan's era. I totally agree with the bolded part to this point.
  6. QUOTE (Boogua @ Nov 17, 2013 -> 10:28 AM) The wizards were better with him playing than not. That alone means he wasn't a joke. No, the whole thing was a joke. He supposedly came back to teach the younger players. What exactly did he teach Kwame Brown and Jahidi White? He hired a retread coach that served no purpose in the short or long term save for kissing his ass. They missed the playoffs both years at a time when the eastern conference was wet, sloppy diarrhea. '98 was perfect and how it should've ended. QUOTE (Boogua @ Nov 17, 2013 -> 10:33 AM) James harden averaged more FTA last year than Jordan did in every year but two. The nba has made it a wings era. Jordan, if he jumped into people after a pump fake which is now the thing to do, would easily average 12+ FTs a game. Even look at some of the wizards footage. He got a ton of people to jump at his pump fakes, but he didnt jump into them, he used it to create space and hit a jumpshot. 11-12 is a reasonable MAX estimate most years. This 15, 16, 18 and 20 free throws per game crap is hyperbole and embarrassing. QUOTE (Boogua @ Nov 17, 2013 -> 10:37 AM) Yes, Boris diaws athleticism is what gave lebron problems. He had a great game 7, but they should have lost in 6 in part to how he was playing. They were giving him cushions every game, but he didnt believe in his jumper until the 4th of game 6 and all of game 7. I guess will pretend he didn't have a triple double in game 1 and 33 points on 15/25 shooting in game 4? No, the Spurs team defense was a problem. Especially with Wade hobbled they consistently flooded whatever side of the court LeBron was on. Yes, they dared him at times to shoot. And if you watched his post game press conference after game 7, he admitted that he was overthinking. He said he looked at the stats and saw that he was one of the best mid-range shooters in the game and shot a career high from 3. He stopped thinking and you saw what happened. How did the Spurs counter? They didn't because there is no counter d when LeBron is hitting his jumper.
  7. QUOTE (sircaffey @ Nov 17, 2013 -> 12:48 AM) So MJ gets up to 12 per game in a period where drawing fouls was tougher, and you don't think he could get up to 15 in today's sissy game? That seems illogical to me, especially because we are talking about MJ, king of exploiting rules, not some average player. If it were so easy to get to the line LeBron and Durant, the two best players today, would routinely be getting to the line 10-12 times per game, let alone 15.
  8. QUOTE (sircaffey @ Nov 17, 2013 -> 12:14 AM) Fact: It is way easier to draw a foul in today's game. And stop comparing Lebron to MJ in this instant. We are talking PPG only. Lebron is not and won't be the scorer MJ was. They have different games. For instance, Durant (today's most elite scorer IMO) has already gotten to the line 17 or more times in 3 games this season. Bottom line, Jordan would have average at least 15 attempts per game with ease. and if Durant averages over 13 free throw attempts a game for the season we can talk some. For his career he's at a little over 8 a game.
  9. QUOTE (Jake @ Nov 17, 2013 -> 12:08 AM) Laimbeer, Edwards, Salley, and Rodman would not be afraid of LeBron. LBJ gets bent out of shape by Nazr Mohammed and cries foul when anyone shows the slightest aggression towards him. Teams like Detroit in the early late 80s/early 90s would have LeBron permanently on his ass and he has shown no ability to handle people getting physical with him. He can play through some contact, but he can't deal with people actually bodying up and clearing him out if necessary So what you're saying is no player, not just LeBron, would be successful against the bad boys? What would Rose do? My fault. Certain posters from time to time like to remind me (more like mock me) of my little declaration a couple years back that Jordan would be the second best C after Dwight (this was after Paul was acquired).
  10. QUOTE (sircaffey @ Nov 17, 2013 -> 12:01 AM) How was it god-awful efficiency? As a 40 year old, Jordan had the same EFF as Rose did his first 2 seasons. You talk like he chucked shots up all game long. He shot 45%, averaged only 0.7 3PT attempts per game, and 82% from the line. I try to pretend like it didn't happen too, but MJ was still getting the job done at 40 years old. He needed nearly 19 shots a game to get those 20 ppg. He got to the line only 4 times a game and was horses*** from 3. And that's while being a negative net on d. Michael the Wizard is a joke and I'll never forgive him for coming back ("I'll never play for another coach besides phil").
  11. QUOTE (Jake @ Nov 16, 2013 -> 11:38 PM) I'd love to see LeBron play 10 minutes against the bad boy Pistons. He'd quit basketball Sure he would. LeBron's got 3 inches and 50 pounds on MJ. He'd be fine. QUOTE (Jake @ Nov 16, 2013 -> 11:43 PM) Just another day at the office for DeAndre Jordan - 3 points, 14 boards, 5 blocks midway through the 4th quarter lol. Is this supposed to be a diss? Try Harder.
  12. QUOTE (sircaffey @ Nov 16, 2013 -> 11:39 PM) In his last season when he turned 40 years old, he averaged 20 pts on 45% shooting. I am sorry, but he was by far the craftiest player ever to play. He would absolutely tear these current dumbass rules to shreds. When Lebron is 40, let's see what he does. As a 40 year old man, he scored 40+ points 3 times..................40...years...old. On god-awful efficiency. Please don't reference wizards mj. I'm still trying to pretend it never happened.
  13. QUOTE (sircaffey @ Nov 16, 2013 -> 11:28 PM) Dude, I don't think you understand how many times Michael would have gotten to the line in this day and age. It would have been ridiculous. He would easily score at least 1/3 of his points with the clock stopped. Averaging 40 may be a slight stretch since he wouldn't play full games, but 35 without a doubt. He'd have multiple games where he scored 20 just from the line. I wish I could see that. It would be a work of art. It would be a work of art to see a player go to the line 20 times a game? Yeah, I don't think so. LeBron career high free throw attempts per game is 9.4. Michael's career high is 12.0 and he had two other years that were higher than LeBron's high. You guys really need to get over this hand-checking crap. I'll admit at first it played a role. But from '08 when thibs introduced the flood the strong side system and the increased emphasis on help d/rotations, defense has never been better.
  14. QUOTE (MexSoxFan#1 @ Nov 16, 2013 -> 09:42 PM) I shudder to think what 87-93 Jordan would do in this perimeter friendly, breath on the offensive player and it's a foul league...also, weak era for big men and they can't camp their big asses in the paint. I also shudder to think what LeBron could do from '87-'93 against inferior athletes, inferior defense and a league-wide pace that would make Nash's suns look slow. And they would both be wrong. We've had one 30 PPG scorer in the last 4 years and MJ's gonna get 40 ppg? Stop it. He'd league the league, sure. He wouldn't sniff 40. Defenses dwarf those of most of Jordan's era. Athletes are better, rotations are better, schemes (in large part thanks to thibs) are better. It's not even up for debate (though i'm sure you'll try). You still on that? LeBron even admitted that he's so obsessed with efficiency and getting the best possible shot for himself or a teammate that he overthinks the game at times and doesn't take what the defense gives him. Then came game 7. The end.
  15. QUOTE (Boogua @ Nov 16, 2013 -> 08:50 PM) Also, pretty sure lebron has a chance of shooting over 60% this year. He's doing to the league what I could see prime mike doing today and making the league reconsider the hand check rule. He's playing the nba like a joke. e: I'm drunk. Lebron will have the best statistical season since the merger. Have to be. You haven't given LeBron this much props since, well, never.
  16. Bulls are playing fast as f***. They want no part of Indy's halfcourt D. That's good.
  17. QUOTE (raBBit @ Nov 16, 2013 -> 12:02 PM) It's November for a team that is certain to be in the playoffs. It's a non-issue. While it's not great for the fans or the game in general, smart teams should rest their stars as much as they can. No reason to push Rose in November. Poppovich gets s*** for it but does a great job of it in San Antonio. Just annoyed at how Rose/Thibs acted like it was nothing.
  18. David Shouster (no clue how to spell his last name) said Rose is unlikely to play tonight or Monday against the Bobcats. Rose hasn't practiced all week and the hammy is still bothering him. So "no big deal" has turned into potentially 3 missed games.
  19. Couple other things. Is Kyrie hurt? He just doesn't look right from what I've seen of him so far. And can LeBron shoot 60% from the field for the season? He's been plagued by back spasms and to his own admission isn't in peak shape and that's about what he's shooting on the season. It's just not fair. This dude has no ceiling.
  20. QUOTE (Jake @ Nov 15, 2013 -> 08:32 PM) I'm ready for everyone to call for the Bulls to get him Rudy Gay is one of those guys that could potentially flourish depending on the coach, team, etc. Rudy Gay as the #1 option in Toronto? No. That's just bad. Look at Monta Ellis. He had to be one of the main guys for a terrible organization in the Bucks. That's not him. In a support role in a very good org like Dallas, he's ballin'.
  21. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Nov 15, 2013 -> 08:00 PM) Don't break your arm patting yourself on the back. There have been plenty of arguments on this site that you have been a part of that took up plenty of pages before you admitted such. Other than the whole Knicks thing a couple years ago, and that took me like a week into that season to see the dantoni knicks were busted, I don't know what you're talking about.
  22. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Nov 15, 2013 -> 07:53 PM) Who was that guy that bagged on Hibbert and said he was fat and slow and worthless? I think his name started with a J, but I can't be positive..... Unlike 98% of this site, I can flat out admit when I'm wrong. Something has clicked for him, at least defensively. He could always block shots (not like this). But he's totally taken over the defensive side of the game since last postseason.
  23. Hibbert with 7 more blocks and there's still 4 min left in the third. This Pacer d is unlike anything I've seen in quite a while (though their schedule has been weak).
  24. Man, it's a good thing I'm not into college basketball. I would hate to think I would let a bunch of teenagers drive me basts*** crazy like y'all. lol.
