  1. QUOTE (Eminor3rd @ Oct 15, 2013 -> 12:29 AM) This is the most backwards thing I've ever heard. You start with a conclusion, then try to find something that supports it. When you find nothing, instead of considering changing your conclusion, you just say everyone else is wrong. All I've been doing is pointing out that these numbers DO take all the things into consideration that you have assumed they don't. The fact that you keep asserting different missing things that actually ARE factored in tells me you still haven't tried to actually understand it. Because if you did, you'd know about them. Let it go, dude. 2k5 subscribes to twtw. Advanced stats are the best thing to ever happen to sports. I've never enjoyed baseball/basketball/football more than I have the last 5 years due to advanced statistical analysis.
  2. QUOTE (greg775 @ Oct 14, 2013 -> 03:45 PM) Amen, Jenks. I knew you were wise when I saw your name. As some may recall I love Bobby Jenks. lmao
  3. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Oct 14, 2013 -> 03:00 PM) If someone calls and says they're interested in Chris Sale, you don't hang up the phone. No team should ever do that. What you do say is that it's going to be incredibly difficult for us to deal him and no matter what your proposal is, we will have to take a lot of time to contemplate it. Beyond that, I really don't think trading him for prospects is the best option simply due to the flame out rates of prospects. The most interesting trade in theory is one for Trout, because the Angels could actually use a big arm like that with their outfield depth. The problem is that you have to include more than just Sale because Trout is that good. You may be able to take a flier on a guy like Tommy Hanson, even if the Angels might DFA him anyways. So, would you guys trade Sale and Santiago for Trout and Hanson?
  4. QUOTE (chw42 @ Oct 12, 2013 -> 01:37 AM) I don't think the Sox would have beaten Houston in 2005 with Beltran on that team. The Astros just couldn't hit when they had guys in scoring position. With how clutch Beltran is in the postseason, you'd think he would have at least turned one or two of those games around. lmao. '04 Bonds couldn't have impeded the '05 White Sox. C'mon now.
  5. QUOTE (pettie4sox @ Oct 11, 2013 -> 10:38 AM) He traveled. And MJ pushed Russell. Magic fouled Isaiah. Who cares. You don't call that in that situation.
  6. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Oct 11, 2013 -> 10:32 AM) The Spurs were a miracle shot away from beating the Heat. Come on dude The greatest 3-point shooter of all-time hit, um, a 3-pointer. How exactly was that a miracle?
  7. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Oct 11, 2013 -> 08:57 AM) I could certainly see a way for the Nets to be a real force come playoff time, but it involves them following the Spurs formula and seriously limiting the minutes of many of their key guys during the regular season. That will hurt their regular season record, but after that, we'll see. They have to be as clost to 100% as possible. Thank you. As I said, the Nets will not win 60 games. I expect the Bulls/Pacers to win a few more games in the regular season. The Nets are built for the playoffs. Kidd's two main priorities this year are to manage the minutes of the older players and maximize Deron Williams' talent.
  8. QUOTE (Rowand44 @ Oct 10, 2013 -> 11:35 PM) You can say they're out of it. They're better than the rest of the east but they're not on the same level as the top 3, they just aren't. Miami? No. The other two? Stop it.
  9. Go Tigers in the ALCS. Me detest Red Sox fans.
  10. QUOTE (ZoomSlowik @ Oct 10, 2013 -> 09:21 PM) Well no s***, you need both to actually win it all. That said, the Pacers made them sweat despite finishing 20th in offensive efficiency last year and Boston did it at 27th (albiet without Bosh). San Antonio was 7th O and 3rd D, the Mavs were 8th in both. The Nets were 17th in defensive efficiency last year, they need to move up around 10 spots to be a real threat. If you have to score 100 every game against the Heat to win, you're going to lose. Prime KG makes that big a difference no question, 37 year old KG not as much. Offense wasn't their main problem last year, they finished 8th in offensive efficiency. They'll be better, whether they're a "contender" remains to be seen. lol@make them sweat. Stop with the 1992 Knicks nonsense. 37-year old KG makes the same difference defensively as prime KG - just in 30 minutes instead of 40. Which is why the Nets won't win 60 games. The object is to get him through the regular season healthy and unleash him in the playoffs. Throw in AK and his overall versatility and Pierce (underrated defender) and it's not hard to see a much improved d-rating. If they're not a contender, then neither are the Bulls and Pacers. I don't need to see a bad movie two/three times to come to the conclusion that it's a bad movie. The Nets are the most talented eastern conference team of the big three era.
  11. QUOTE (ZoomSlowik @ Oct 10, 2013 -> 09:02 PM) Slowing down Miami on defense is a much bigger part of beating/pushing them. The jury is still out on that front. Lopez is a fairly big liability at the middle of their defense and several of their other players are issues now that they're past their peak. It can't all fall on KG and AK47. They'll be an interesting team. Certainly they have offensive talent, but I need to see if they can stop people and/or keep up with more athletic teams before putting them above Chicago and Indiana. Chicago and Indiana have "slowed" them down and all they've done is lose. Dallas/SA have proven what it takes to beat Miami. Fair point on their overall defensive abilities. They'll definitely be better. KG/AK alone do that. But they don't have to be a defensive juggernaut with their offensive firepower.
  12. QUOTE (ZoomSlowik @ Oct 10, 2013 -> 08:36 PM) Those three guys for the Nets are the only reason anyone is worried about them. Before they merged with the Celtics, the Nets lost a playoff series to a Bulls' team that was virtually playing on crutches. Terry, too. They're going to stretch the s*** out of teams with their 3-point shooting. That's how you beat Miami.
  13. Let me put it this way... Flip Boozer, Deng and Dunleavy for KG, Pierce and AK47 and the Bulls would probably be the favorite. The Nets aren't going to win 60 games. I'd say 55 is their ceiling (I expect 50-52). They'll be a nightmare in the postseason if reasonably healthy.
  14. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Oct 10, 2013 -> 06:54 PM) The Nets bloooooooooooooow Wrong. The Karate Kid movie starring Will Smith's talentless son blows. The Nets are legit.
  15. QUOTE (Rowand44 @ Oct 10, 2013 -> 02:02 PM) I usually think the NBA regular season is pretty useless but this year that 1 seed in the east is going to be huge. The Nets are improved but I'd much rather see them in the 2nd round and let the Heat deal with the Pacers there. No way. The Nets are a terrible match-up for the Bulls. You beat a Thibs-style defense with spacing, passing and shooting. The Nets have all that and then some. Pacers are a much better match-up for the Bulls.
  16. QUOTE (Swingandalongonetoleft @ Oct 9, 2013 -> 09:59 PM) Whelp, it was fun while it lasted. Going forward, it would be nice to see Pittsburgh make semi-regular playoff appearances instead of reprising their role in the War of Suck opposite the Cubs, battling for last place in the NL Central. I feel supremely confident when I say the Pirates are here and will be a legit contender for a while.
  17. QUOTE (ZoomSlowik @ Oct 8, 2013 -> 10:31 PM) So, I'm bored, my fantasy football teams suck, and it's almost NBA season. I thought I'd throw up some predictions here... West Clippers over Blazers in 5 (have the Clippers #1 due to the Spurs resting old guys and Westbrook's injury costing the Thunder a few wins) Spurs over Mavericks in 4 Thunder over Warriors in 5 Rockets over Grizzlies in 7 Clippers over Rockets in 7 Thunder over Spurs in 6 Thunder over Clippers in 5 East Heat over Cavs in 4 (going out on a limb and saying they get at least 100 games combined from Varejao and Bynum. East sucks beyond the top-4) Bulls over Wizards in 5 Pacers over Hawks in 5 Nets over Knicks in 6 (obviously depends on health of Brooklyn's old dudes) Heat over Nets in 6 Bulls over Pacers in 7 Heat over Bulls in 7 Finals Heat over Thunder in 7 MVP- Durant (only because of Lebron fatigue) ROY- Trey Burke (would be Oladipo if he could start at SG) 6th man- Reggie Jackson if he qualifies Most Improved- I would say Valanciunas or Drummond, but it usually goes to guys that have slightly more NBA experience. I'll also avoid the obvious Utah guys and go with Ersan Ilyasova finally putting together a good season instead of just half of one (something like 17-9). You forgot DPOY in your individual analysis. Watch Dwight go HAM. He's healthy and mad. Just wait.
  18. QUOTE (greg775 @ Oct 8, 2013 -> 10:23 PM) Thank you sir. I think you all underestimate me. I think I am a brilliant person, evidenced by the fact when I gamble and start a thread it usually gets a lot of responses. See my risky Miley Cyrus thread. Just stop talkin' in 3rd person and you're all good.
  19. QUOTE (Rowand44 @ Oct 6, 2013 -> 10:29 PM) So who is pumped for this Chargers-Raiders game?!? It's football. It could be a 3:00 am start and it wouldn't matter. This current era is the best in nfl history. The players are bigger, stronger, more athletic and skilled than ever. inb4 somebody who's like 48 tells me the nfl (and the world in general) was better in 1992.
  20. QUOTE (whitesoxfan99 @ Oct 6, 2013 -> 04:42 PM) You have arguably the greatest QB of all time playing the best he has ever played, behind a really good offensive line, with 2 stud outside WRs, a stud slot guy, and an unbelievable athlete at TE. Just awesome to watch. There is no arguably. This man is hands down the best of all time.
  21. QUOTE (greg775 @ Oct 2, 2013 -> 09:50 PM) I'm down on Viciedo because like many of the Sox prospects, he has started his big league career slowly, some might say poorly. He's 24 years old (allegedly) so nobody's going to be willing to give up on him yet (DeAza will be the guy the Sox dump), but his numbers have been unimpressive. I'm hoping badly it's just a natural progression and he'll get better but I'm not holding my breath. This year he hit .265 with .304 OBP. He had 98 strikeouts to 24 walks in 473 plate appearances. So he swings at everything pretty much. In 543 plate appearances in 2012 he hit .255 with .300 OBP with 120 strikeouts, 28 walks. Considering his lack of speed and average to below average fielding, coupled with his annoying habit of swinging at everything, I just don't like him anymore. He'll get one year or more with our next hitting coach. I hope he develops, but I don't like anything about his approach at the plate right now or the results at the plate. Beckham has had five years to do something, so I'm pretty sure Sox won't give up on the Tank yet. ok this is a fake greg. Somebody hacked him. This post is outstanding.
  22. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Oct 1, 2013 -> 10:09 PM) Someone like Lamb's gonna have to step up. Yeah. That Harden trade is lookin' Pippen/Polynice bad right now. Lamb has to make the jump.
  23. Westbrook to miss first 4-6 weeks of the regular season. http://sports.yahoo.com/news/thunders-west...659--ncaab.html Durant is going to have to go HAM. The Thunder have, like, no scoring outside of him.
  24. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Oct 1, 2013 -> 10:35 AM) MJ talks http://espn.go.com/nba/story/_/id/9753017/...ron-james-prime J4L, your move. Whew. I thought this was some Bill Russell nonsense. I'd take Michael in a fantasy 1 on 1 scenario. Not 9-10 times out of 10 or anything like that. LeBron would have 2-3 inches and something like 60-65 pounds on MJ. That can't be underestimated. If you remember, Magic was givin' it to MJ pretty good until Phil made the switch to Scottie in the finals. and LeBron >> Magic.
  25. Go Rays! Most efficient organization in baseball history.
