QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Sep 30, 2013 -> 10:49 AM) NBA is going back to 2-2-1-1-1 finals format This is great. The series will no longer be essentially over if the home team doesn't win game 5 after splitting the first 4 games. -
A play-in game to decide who plays in the, um, play-in game? This second wild card is the dumbest s*** ever.
-
Don't care for individual grades. Team/coaching/organization grade: F The White Sox are ratchet and busted.
-
QUOTE (scs787 @ Sep 21, 2013 -> 12:02 AM) Fixed. The Sox look to be in good shape pitching wise from top to bottom. Until Sale goes down. And it will Happen. And even then I laugh at the notion that this is a "championship" staff. Rays >>>>>>>>>>>>>> Sox. QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Sep 21, 2013 -> 12:17 AM) All those games where Leyland decided to let him go 120+ pitches may be catching up to him. I wouldn't be shocked to see him fall off like Zito did. Prince is just unhealthy and once he's out of his prime he'll be done. Well, they still won the division with ease. And what you're selling sounds like hope, not reality. Kinda like Rowand. "The Bulls will win the championship." lol. They can t even see the Nets or Pacers, let alone LeBron. The Sox are bad and boring.
-
QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Sep 20, 2013 -> 11:33 PM) Which means you don't even watch baseball. Verlander doesn't deserve to be in the playoff rotation and Prince is having the worst season of his career. Prince and Verlander get the benefit of the doubt until a legitimate pattern forms. The Sox are a terrible organization from top to bottom. Detroit is the least of our concerns.
-
QUOTE (greg775 @ Sep 20, 2013 -> 11:08 PM) Are any of those 3 projected to start sucking? Seems to me they are still in their primes. We can hope they start to stink but I wouldn't bank on it for a while. Also not to cheap shot Robin, but they have a pretty darn good, LaRussa-type manager. I agree with greg here. Verlander, Miggy and Prince are 3 of the best in the world. It's totally loser thinking to sit back and wait for them to get worse in order for the sox to get better. Sounds like Bulls fans - "No, we're not really better, but Wade's knees are going to give out at some point. Then we've got 'em!!!" Lame.
-
QUOTE (greg775 @ Sep 20, 2013 -> 01:02 PM) It's amazing how the two architects of the 05 title, Kenny and Ozzie, predictably couldn't sustain it and flopped. Kind of like Ditka/Ryan. I guess we should be very very happy the Bulls sustained with Jordan, winning multi titles. And the Blackhawks more than one, with the future also looking bright. I happen to love Ozzie in the KW/Oz duo. A lot of you despise him and like KW, who I despise. Funny how that works. Both have the ultimate prize, but both also could be considered huge failures by others because of their lack of sustainability. I guess we should be just happy attendance is good enough to prevent anybody from hinting the Sox might move. The Sox may rise again. How long is anybody's guess. You're kidding? I had no idea.

QUOTE (pettie4sox @ Sep 16, 2013 -> 03:36 PM) I think a better question would be, what does Spoelstra do? Coach, win titles and bang this girl. QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Sep 16, 2013 -> 03:41 PM) I don't think anyone said "f*** yeah, Beasley" when the Suns got him, either. And I didn't say that when he signed with the Heat, either. #JimmyButlerisgoingtobringusatitle -

QUOTE (Boogua @ Sep 16, 2013 -> 02:51 PM) Wouldn't that circle back to the original argument of "it's easy to win with Lebron James"? As much as I don't like the Bulls' core aside from Rose, I'll take them ALL DAY over the crap Mike Brown had to work with aside from LeBron. That team had no business beating the Pistons. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Sep 16, 2013 -> 02:53 PM) Of course. Saying that Spoelstra is an offensive genius when he was generally considered to be a defensive guy as an assistant is silly. Calling him an offensive genius because they brought in LeBron, run an Iso offense with 2-3 guys on the wings who can hit 3s so LeBron can take it or kick is silly. I have also never once said that Spoelstra is a bad coach, just that the offensive genius thing is silly. The only real big wrinkle he added to the offense from the first season was having those wing guys standing at the line. I think that's something most guys could have come up with if they had LeBron, Wade, Bosh, and all those shooters. The Heat have gotten progressively better every year of the big three era. They ran the most efficient offense (regular season) in nba history. Good coaching matters. -

QUOTE (chw42 @ Sep 16, 2013 -> 02:44 PM) Certainly not Erik Spolestra. By your logic/standards, Mike Brown is a better, more accomplished coach than Thibs. -

QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Sep 16, 2013 -> 02:37 PM) -Phil Jackson has won 11 titles with essentially 4 different groups of players. His offense and coaching works. The last 2 with Kobe were probably the most impressive. -Every full season of Popovich's career (and even 1 lockout year), he's won at least 50 games. During the 98 season, they went 37-13, which is a 60 win pace. He has 4 Finals wins. He's had a zillion different players come through his system with the only constant being Tim Duncan. -Pat Riley won 5 titles with 2 different teams and made the Finals 9 times with 3 different teams. Meanwhile, Erik Spoelstra had one of the best slashing 2's in the game in Dwyane Wade during his first 2 years and won 43 and 47 games. But please, by all means, tell me you are comparing Spoelstra to Jackson, Popovich, and Riley. In other words, you need great, great players to win titles. Been the case since, I don't know, forever. -

QUOTE (chw42 @ Sep 16, 2013 -> 02:14 PM) The Bulls don't get to the playoffs last year without Thibodeau. They don't get two consecutive #1 seeds without him. They don't get to the ECF in 2011 without him. Do the Heat win the last two championships without Spolestra? Probably. Yeah, no coach in history could've accomplished those "feats" but Thibs. lol. -

QUOTE (chw42 @ Sep 16, 2013 -> 02:03 PM) I have no idea where this notion of Spolestra being a great coach came from. Didn't everyone pile on his ass just a year ago for being incredibly incompetent? I guess winning championships changes everything, huh? Even though he wasn't anywhere near the reason the Heat won those titles. So what makes a great coach? Running your top guys into the ground against s***ty eastern conference teams to the point they have nothing left for the PS three years in a row? -

QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Sep 16, 2013 -> 01:54 PM) Really? 2008-09 - PPG 98.3 (18th out of 30), Offensive Rating 107.8 (20th out of 30) 2009-10 - PPG 96.5 (25th out of 30), Offensive Rating 106.6 (19th out of 30) [sIGN LEBRON] 2010-11 - PPG 102.1 (8th out of 30), Offensive Rating 111.7 (3rd out of 30) I call it "Sign LeBron and let the best player since Jordan do his thing," but to each their own. If you gave me a team with LeBron, Wade, Bosh, and the rest of that crew, yeah, I'd probably win 55-60 games showing up drunk every game. Ok, so let's just put an asterisk on all of Phil's titles and Pat Riley's and poppovich's and anybody who's ever won with a great player(s). #the internethasspoken -

QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Sep 16, 2013 -> 01:08 PM) The offensive scheme that involves players standing at the 3 point line to clear the lane for Wade or LeBron? Yeah, REALLY complicated. It's so brilliant it completely negates any value Chris Bosh has by making him take 18 foot jumpers all day. Oh gee, it's so easy maybe you can even coach? I love internet experts. -

QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Sep 16, 2013 -> 08:26 AM) I think you were beginning to make competent arguments until this. Spoelstra is an elite offensive coach in the same way that Brian Billick is an elite defensive coach. And you, like many, don't give him the credit he deserves because he has LeBron. Think back to '11 and compare them to '13 (offensively speaking) and it's not even close. "Pace and space" is what Heat fans call it. There's many articles you can find online dissecting the Heat's very complicated offensive schemes. -

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Sep 14, 2013 -> 06:17 PM) I get that. What I don't get is how you can have doubt about his even making the team, but still think he is going to be some difference maker. That is a joke. Well, the dude does have a pretty serious pot problem. And he's not exactly bright - otherwise he wouldn't be in his current situation. I didn't say because it's the Heat that he's f***-up proof now. I said if there's one team (well two, the Spurs) that he could turn his career around with it would be the Heat. If he blows this, it's off to Europe or China. -

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Sep 14, 2013 -> 03:16 PM) Wait so you are telling me that he might not make the team, but in the same breath that he will be some huge piece of the Heat Dynasty? Come on man. lol. The deal is NON-GUARANTEED. I've said this like 55 times. Get off soxtalk and check a hoops site every now and then. And lol@huge piece. Yeah, that's clearly what I've been saying. Heat+Beasley=70 wins. No doubt. -

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Sep 13, 2013 -> 10:53 PM) If he were any good, he wouldn't have had to sign for a minimum deal. One, he has to make the team first. Two, if he had the talent level of Yinka Dare we wouldn't even be having this conversation. -

QUOTE (ZoomSlowik @ Sep 13, 2013 -> 09:58 PM) Yeah, because teams give up #2 picks after 2 years for cap-clearing purposes all the time. He would have made $4.9 mil that year. They signed Mike Miller for $5 mil. They picked Mike Miller instead of him. Clearly a ringing endorsement. When LeBron James is the prize, you damn right you give up that player. Beasley, at that time, had no place with Miami once they got James. Put them over the top? They're already on top. -

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Sep 13, 2013 -> 09:48 PM) You're only fellating him because he is on the Heat. please. You were the one in here saying the Heat had no heart or whatever crap that was you were talking last year. The decision was three years ago. Get over it.
