Yankees Series: Has it Been a Confidence Builder?
The only thing this series has showed me to this point is that this team has absolutely no quit in them -- which is something we knew a long time ago. There's just not much to like about this team right now, aside from the offense.

Freddy Bracing for Exit
I've tried to back Freddy all year, but after these comments -- see ya. Thanks for '04 and '05, Freddy.

QUOTE(Jimbo @ Aug 10, 2006 -> 05:28 PM) Ill say it to the point. Pods sucks, this team needs a real LF, not a 1 tooled player. He was great for us last year, but its not the same guy this year. Imagine if he were on base for Thome and Kong more....scary stuff. Consistency has been his problem. He's been up/down all year. This is one of those down periods at the moment. I'm fairly certain you'll see him turn it around soon.

Why are we complaining about Uribe's offense again? From June 15th to July 4th he led all of baseball in RBIs. From July 15th to August 2nd he hit safely in 13 of the 14 games he played in (including an eleven game hitting streak). Anderson is hitting .262 since the break. Yeah, he's bad so far this month, but the month is still young. Pods is simply in another one of those funks where he looks awful. He's been so inconsistent this year. I do believe he'll turn it around again, though. QUOTE(The Ginger Kid @ Aug 10, 2006 -> 05:08 PM) You can call him the greatest of all time if you like. With his weak bat he belongs in AAA. And who plays center if we sent him down? And haven't you noticed how much better he's looked at the plate the last couple months?

Does anybody know if Brady Clark was even available? Or have any idea what the Brewers asking price was?

Attributes of a good poster
QUOTE(Hangar18 @ Aug 9, 2006 -> 12:46 PM) I would have to say a Good poster, brings up something daily, that encourages dialogue. A good poster is someone who can add something to a thread started by someone else, and of course the good poster often makes a point others may not have thought of. Bad posters would be people who rip other posters viewpoints, simply because they dont agree Bad posters usually dont have their own thoughts about a subject and are quick to judge. sums it up I think After reading this, one person comes to mind for me. Thank god that tool was banned a couple years ago. Rowand knows who I'm talking about. lol.

Negativity? Sox Fans #1
QUOTE(sti3 @ Aug 8, 2006 -> 04:31 PM) Screw being excited about the wild card race, the sox are playing crappy baseball and the wild card is a joke. If my Illini are crappy in basketball next year you gonna tell me that we still have a shot at the Big 10 championship cause of the conference tournament? Awful comparison. Oh, yeah, the '02 Angels, '03 Marlins, and '04 Red Sox told me to tell you hello.

AND THAT'S A WHITE SOX WINNER!!!
QUOTE(witesoxfan @ Aug 8, 2006 -> 11:42 PM) the hell with winnings...sweep their arses Well, will probably win tomorrow. Of course, we know how that third game goes after taking the first two.

Liriano likely to DL
As a pure baseball fan, this is horrible news. As a White Sox fan, it's like Christmas in August. Edit: I'm not worried about bad White Sox karma, either. Watching our starting rotation for the last two months has been more than enough punishment for me.

AND THAT'S A WHITE SOX WINNER!!!
PK and Dye tied and won the game, but Garcia and Jenks are my two players of the game. Garcia did a great job against the closest thing to an actual all-star line-up you're gonna find. Bobby gave us 2 2/3 innings of dominant relief on a night where the rest of the 'pen looked pretty shaky. Please god let this be the start of a serious hot-streak.

Ozzie Manuel
QUOTE(fathom @ Aug 8, 2006 -> 12:55 AM) I've been saying all year that we need our 5 starters to step up and lead this team. However, that's not happening, and it seems like the only person who hasn't realized yet that these pitchers continue to give up late runs is Ozzie Guillen (and the PFB). Right now, the offense is what is our best asset, followed by our relievers, followed by our starting pitching. To say Ozzie can't do anything to help the starting pitching though is ridiculous. There's no need for them to start the 7th inning nearly every game, especially when they're fatigued. Wasn't McCarthy supposed to be on the roster to prevent the exact crap that we're seeing this year? Problem is McCarthy has been hit-or-miss all year. I agree that Ozzie should've lifted Mark after 6 tonight. I'm just looking at the entire season. This rotation flat-out hasn't performed. I don't know what Ozzie can do when 4 of your 5 starters have ERAs near or above 5. Yeah, you could yank a guy after 5 or 6 everytime, but then you put great stress on your bullpen. And as I've said, our bullpen hasn't exactly been stellar.
-
Ozzie Manuel
QUOTE(shoota @ Aug 8, 2006 -> 12:47 AM) And since their performances are much worse than they were in 2005, a good manager would have adjusted his use of them. And then people would diss Ozzie for overworking the bullpen. This team is built on starting pitching. Hell, nearly half this team's damn payroll is tied up in the starting rotation. If they don't perform, there's really not much Ozzie can do. And it's not like we've got the Angels' bullpen, either.
-
Ozzie Manuel
QUOTE(shoota @ Aug 8, 2006 -> 12:41 AM) Ozzie is partly to blame for the performance of the starting rotation because of the way he used it. He hasn't used them any differently than last year. They haven't performed. Period.
-
Ozzie Manuel
QUOTE(shoota @ Aug 8, 2006 -> 12:33 AM) You stated the 2003 team was just about as talented at the 2006 one, so if the Sox don't make the playoffs this year, Ozzie, like Manuel is bad manager according to your reasoning. Get back to me when the Sox are eliminated from playoff contention. And even then, I'll blame the starting pitching more than I would Ozzie. It would be tough for a lot of managers to win when an entire starting staff, especially one as potent as this year's staff was supposed to be, craps its pants for an entire year.

Big Frank
QUOTE(rangercal @ Aug 7, 2006 -> 11:30 PM) Call me a liar. Call me a homer. But I knew he could. The man is a freak of nature when healthy. There are a few factors that led me to belive he would come back strong. 1) I firmly belived he came back too early last year to help the team. On one leg he hit 12 hr's last year. Imagine what he could do when he can plant his feet . That gives him balance, balance is very important for big guys. 2) He may be getting old, but he will have his batting eye for years. That is one thing you don't lose as fast as other tools. 3) The guy is still in amazing shape. He has not relied on steroids to keep himself in that way. 4) He has played 108 out of 324 possible games the last 2 years. Games and practice that would have been grueling on a player in his mid 30's gave him a chance to not put so much strain on his body. 5) Frank Thomas was put into the same sentence as players like Ruth and Williams when I was younger. He is the only first basemen besides Jimmie Fox (32 & 33) to win Back to Back Mvps. He could easily have had 4-5 if he were a media darling like griffey or ripken. Frank Thomas may be the only sox player in your lifetime that was a legitimite contender for triple crown. This is a man who is 6'5 257 lbs and won a batting title. A career .425 obp and .991 OPS is nothing to laugh at. You have a guy who is 8 years older than some of the stars in the game and is still putting better power numbers up (i.e guerrero) My point is. Big Frank is a special player. That is what gets you in the HOF. You just dont give up on players like that. Good post. Also, Frank has 3 MVPs. 1993/1994/2000 Giambi can go fist himself.

Ozzie Manuel
QUOTE(shoota @ Aug 8, 2006 -> 12:18 AM) Right, so Manuel is a bad manager and so is Ozzie. Yeah, that's it.
-
Ozzie Manuel
QUOTE(shoota @ Aug 8, 2006 -> 12:12 AM) Please explain. Caffey said Manuel never had a team as talented as the current team. The 2003 team was just about as talented as this one. I still don't know how that team didn't get into the playoffs.

Ozzie Manuel
QUOTE(shoota @ Aug 8, 2006 -> 12:09 AM) And the 2006 team isn't? You should learn to read.

Ozzie Manuel
QUOTE(sircaffey @ Aug 7, 2006 -> 11:59 PM) 2000 w/ 95 wins....But whatever, Manuel never had as good of a team. Talent overrides a lot of things in sports. The 2003 was LOADED.

Ozzie Manuel
QUOTE(shoota @ Aug 7, 2006 -> 11:09 PM) The bullpen doesn't have to be clutch for them to be better options than the starters in the innings of their implosions. Yes, it's ok if we give up runs as long as it's not the starters that give them up. That's it.
-
I can't take this anymore....
QUOTE(Harry&JimmyRocked @ Aug 7, 2006 -> 11:04 PM) funny thing about comments like yours is that there is nothing to back it up except "i have a feeling" or "just because" false hope leads to disappointment imo nothing points to anything but us finishing 10 games over .500 for the season. our pitching stinks and we are the 2004 whitesox...homerun or nothing. Why do you care if he chooses to be optimistic and not foolishly give up on the season? If you think it's over, fine. Stop watching the games. Don't try and bring those down that continue to have faith in the team.

I can't take this anymore....
It's official. Ozzie is a horrible manager.

QUOTE(TitoMB345 @ Aug 7, 2006 -> 09:49 PM) If his arm is dead, and thats an if, his ERA has been around 11 since. I don't want a 2007 starter with an 11 ERA, its really not that confusing. But his era is not 11. It's 4.89. Did Mark's season not officially begin to you until July 2nd?
