Colorado @ Sox - 3/1 Game Thread
QUOTE(SoxFan101 @ Feb 28, 2006 -> 08:59 PM) If we dont have Konerko we dont win anything, If we didnt have Contreras we dont win anything, if we didnt have Buehrle we dont win anything, if we didnt have Podsenick/iguchi leading off we dont win anything.... What you trying to say? Wait, I just did it. Oh well.

Sox etiquette
You should sit the you know what down during game action. If you have to get up to go to the bathroom or something, that's cool. Besides that, sit your ass down.

I'd go with Paul or Mark.

Who are you picking to win it all?
QUOTE(ZoomSlowik @ Feb 28, 2006 -> 10:40 PM) UConn definitely should be the odds-on-favorite. They don't have any major weaknesses that I can see. I really only see two other teams that stand out as potential national champs: Villanova and Memphis. Those are the only other two teams that I've been impressed with. I know that Nova could have a tough time because of their size and that Memphis is a little young, but everyone else has some bigger flaws. No Duke? I hate them as much as anybody, but they've gotta be right up there as one of the favorites.

QUOTE(ZoomSlowik @ Feb 28, 2006 -> 10:37 PM) Come on guys, there's no way that NU is going to beat OSU. I'm an NU fan and I can't see it happening. Dials is going to kill us inside, and we allow far too many open perimeter shots. NU was lucky to be as close as they were last time. OSU probably isn't going to miss 20 three pointers again. Can you please let us dream?

sox middle infield
QUOTE(southsideirish @ Feb 28, 2006 -> 10:06 PM) They are obviously basing it on just offensive statistics. Otherwise this list doesn't make much sense. Exactly. Rank them defensively and we're near the top.

QUOTE(maggsmaggs @ Feb 28, 2006 -> 10:12 PM) Yeah, and he added the passing game tonight. Every broadcaster says this team goes as Dee Brown goes, but it Auggie isn't playing well, this team goes nowhere as well. When he stays out of foul trouble, Illinois wins. Exactly. James has kicked it up a notch the last week or so.

Colorado @ Sox - 3/1 Game Thread
QUOTE(SSH2005 @ Feb 28, 2006 -> 06:45 PM) IMO -- pitching, homeruns, and defense in that order. I'd switch homeruns and defense around. Without the defense, the pitching wouldn't have been as good.

Thome comes out swinging
QUOTE(sayitaintso @ Feb 28, 2006 -> 06:42 PM) How about their pitching, was it that good. I was 5 at the time so i don't remember them. It was pretty good. They were led by Charles Nagy, Dennis Martinez and Orel Hershiser. Their bullepen was filthy led by Jose Mesa.

QUOTE(whitesoxfan101 @ Feb 28, 2006 -> 05:10 PM) My picks: Freshmen of the Year: Jamelle Cornley PSU: No contest. Newcomer of the Year: Marco Killingsworth IU: Yeah he's a senior, but also a newcomer and this one is also no contest Coach of the Year: Bo Ryan of Wisky as long as they at least split their last 2 games to go 10-6. That team has VERY VERY little besides Tucker and Taylor. Yes they are 2 great players, but this team's already poor depth was hurt losing 2 rotation players earlier this year, and they really came back from the dead to have a nice season. I know everybody will vote Thad and some for Alford, but both are blessed with senior laden, talented teams. However Thad will win, and that's cool with me. Defensive POY: Brian Randle ILL: Only averages 27.4 MPG because of foul trouble, but is by far the best defender in the league, and the 27 MPG are enough for me to give him the award. MOP: Vedran Vukusic NW: Most Outstanding Player in the league by a mile. He's double and triple teamed every game, yet still leads the league in scoring while shooting a more than respectable 50.4 percent from the field despite few easy baskets. He might be the MVP of the league too considering how awful NW would be without him, but I just can't get myself to give him that award. MVP: Terence Dials OSU: Simply put, the best player on the best team. Everything OSU does involves him, he's the best defender on the team, he's a major force on both ends, his interior dominance forces the other team to either let him keep dominating one on one, or double team him, giving open looks to those deadly OSU shooters. All Big Ten First Team: C Terence Dials OSU (not sure if he's technically a C, but close enough) F Vedran Vukusic NW F Alando Tucker Wisc G Daniel Horton UM G Dee Brown ILL All Big Ten Second Team: C Paul Davis MSU F James Augustine ILL F Greg Brunner Iowa G Shannon Brown MSU G Maurice Ager MSU All Big Ten Third Team: F Marco Killingsworth IU (loses focus too damn much) F Robert Vaden IU (same story as his teammate) F Geary Claxton PSU (picked the wrong year to be a good forward) G Kammron Taylor Wisc (explosive, but not always consistent) G Je'Kel Foster OSU (TAKE MORE SHOTS DUDE!!) Just my opinion, feel free to rip away. Btw, if Michigan State played defense at all, at least one of their three 2nd teamers would be a level up (I didn't want to put Dee Brown on the 1st team, he hasn't been all that great). Hard to rip any of that. I actually agree with everything.

combine, pro day thread
I heard Davis had a lot of problems actually catching the football at the combine. Not that it matters much.

Thome limited to DH until mid-March
QUOTE(Buehrle>Wood @ Feb 27, 2006 -> 08:04 PM) How about 'til late October? You just made me think. If we do make it to the World Series again (knock on wood), which one of Konerko/Thome sits during the NL park games? lol

Favorite WS Game 2 Homer
QUOTE(Buehrle>Wood @ Feb 28, 2006 -> 05:40 PM) For whatever reason, I could just see Konerko's home run coming. Pod's took by by total surprise. Never in a million years could I have seen that one coming. I didn't even know how to react to the Pod's homer. For one, I was shocked. Two, I had used up every bit of emotion I had after the Konerko blast.

Kelvim Escobar not a fan of Pierzynski
I figured Escobar wouldn't be a fan of Joe Crede. Considering Joe made a dirty diaper out of him in game 2 and 5 of the ALCS.

Sox not interested in Ugueth Urbina
I'd take Urbina in a second.

Favorite WS Game 2 Homer
No question it's Konerko's. I wasn't there, but I could feel the electricity of the ballpark. The Cell/Comiskey was never, ever as loud as it was after that slam. And it wasn't until then that I was 100% sure it was our year.

Konerko on WSCR 670
QUOTE(KevHead0881 @ Feb 28, 2006 -> 04:38 PM) I couldn't imagine what it would have been like to be there. I know Podsednik hit the game winner, but I still think the Konerko slam was the biggest home run in White Sox history. It wasn't until that very moment that I was 100% certain it was our year.

Javier Vazquez's mechanics
QUOTE(earthshiner @ Feb 28, 2006 -> 02:36 PM) just two years ago we were praying for ONE victory from our fifth starter. now we expect 15. I can't wait for this year to start. Kenny has done an amazing job putting this staff together.

QB Drama in Chitown
QUOTE(SoxFan101 @ Feb 26, 2006 -> 07:44 PM) Oh man Id love to bring a guy like Aaron Brooks in.... have it open competition... I think Rex prob will win out since lovie will favor him but if he has another injury Id finally be happy with our backup... Aaron Brooks sucks. He hasn't had a good year since 03. He's an interception/fumble machine.
