  1. QUOTE (iamshack @ May 15, 2013 -> 11:49 AM) There are still 125 games left...I'm not concerned about being 5 games back or whatever. Obviously, they need to drastically cut back on their mental and physical errors in the field and start actually hitting the ball. If we can start playing like we are capable, we can start worrying about standings later. Otherwise, it's a moot point. Um, I disagree completely. We need to worry about the standing RIGHT NOW. I don't want to be 8+ games out when/if this team "starts to play like they're capable." Detroit is significantly better than they were last year - leading all of baseball in runs scored and third in ERA. They have easily the highest run differential at +62 (only team close is the Cards at +51).
  2. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ May 15, 2013 -> 10:34 AM) They also had 7 consecutive years of below .500 baseball. That's not what you said. You said you can't totally transform your team with a couple of high picks. The Nationals draft Strasburg and Harper in '09 and '10, and now they're one of the elite teams in baseball. They probably win it all if they don't shut Stras down last year.
  3. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ May 15, 2013 -> 10:24 AM) The Rockies? When have they won anything? Clearly not "sustained success". Besides, since 2005, where the Sox results have been unacceptable, they still have won a lot more games than the Rockies. The Braves have never done a gut rebuild and have not had 2 consecutive seasons under .500 in 23 years. The Brewers results certainly don't qualify as sustained success either and they have the same record as the White Sox this season. People want the Sox to be the Rays, who btw, haven't won any titles themselves. That took a very long time and a lot of losing to accomplish. This isn't the NBA. You can't totally transform your team in 2 years with a couple of high lottery picks. The Nationals have. But yeah, that's pretty rare in baseball.
  4. QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ May 15, 2013 -> 10:08 AM) Probably not. He doesn't really have a full time spot for them though. I know that. He's stuck behind craig. I just wanted to know if there was any substance here.
  5. Matt Adams has been mentioned about thirty times in this thread. Is there anything more to this other than it being fathom's unrealistic fantasy? The Sox could never swindle the Cardinals like that.
  6. Nice win. Sox better take advantage of this pitching. Warmer weather works both ways.
  7. QUOTE (fathom @ May 14, 2013 -> 09:38 PM) Of course, James Loney has been incredible for Tampa Somethin' about that Tampa jersey. Scrubs just flourish over there. Most efficient organization in baseball.
  8. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ May 14, 2013 -> 09:34 PM) http://www.milb.com/milb/stats/stats.jsp?p...&pid=571976 770 OPS. Josh Phegley's seriously outhitting him. Thanks. So he's been just alright so far. If he heats up, I hope the Rays learned from the Angels and don't wait around.
  9. And here come the Rays once again. They looked like a bunch of broke dick dogs 10 days ago. After tonight's win (Matt Moore was filthy after a rough first), they've won 6 in a row and 8 of 10. Anybody know how Wil Myers is doing? I haven't followed any minor league baseball so far.
  10. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ May 14, 2013 -> 09:07 PM) But they did have a very good run between 1990 and 1994. The problem, as we all know, is what the strike did to the franchise. It's hard to look at that "sustained success" definition and not take something that was completely out of their control into the equation. (Well, some would actually blame Reinsdorf for the strike, partially....which is a different issue but related nevertheless). And back then only two teams from each league made the playoffs. Under the current set-up, the Sox are easily in the playoffs in 1990 and possibly 1991. It's never been easier to get into the post-season than it is today. Which makes the Sox inability to get there with more consistency that much more frustrating.
  11. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ May 14, 2013 -> 08:50 PM) It could. KC and Pittsburgh were two of the most proud franchises in MLB. They have gone a long time without being relevant. It's just funny to me how extreme both sides (pro-rebuild vs anti-rebuild) are going in attempting to make their case. There's like no in-between. Pro-rebuild: Stay the current course and continue to win 78-84 games for the next 20 years. Anti-rebuild: Tear it down and we're the Pirates and Royals for the next 20 years.
  12. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ May 14, 2013 -> 08:37 PM) Is the money coming out of your checking account? Don't you think Chairman Reinsdorf can cover the payroll? Why should Sox fans have to put up with a rebuild that could take 20 years? 2033, you say? Wow.
  13. Ladies and gents, I present to you, Dwyane Wade's pants:
  14. QUOTE (Jake @ May 13, 2013 -> 11:42 PM) It's the Tayshaun Ha. He's part of it. But really. I still have nightmares about that '04 Detroit team. #wORSTmoSTBoringChampionshipTeamSINCE1979. The grizzlies are so similar. So sad that Westbrook got hurt. That's the only reason this boring ass team is going to the conference finals.
  15. QUOTE (Jake @ May 13, 2013 -> 10:55 PM) Mike Conley is one gutsy dude. Can't believe how Memphis can dump Mayo and Gay and still have this kind of team. They remind me of the '04 Pistons. And that's horrible.
  16. QUOTE (flavum @ May 13, 2013 -> 10:12 PM) If Robin Ventura was somebody else, or this was a different team, it would be getting close to that time. Closer to what time?
  17. Caulfield's font is intoxicated.
  18. QUOTE (Jake @ May 13, 2013 -> 07:50 PM) He sucked against the Nets, I remember How about the 1/11 in the game 6 loss against the Sixers last year? If he's even average they probably win that series.
  19. Oh, and I'm not hating on the Bulls as a whole at all (save Boozer). This was never going to be a competitive series under any circumstance outside of a LeBron injury. I applaud the Bulls for everything they've accomplished this year.
  20. QUOTE (Jake @ May 13, 2013 -> 07:48 PM) He was our best player this year. I'm not going to get mad that they could slow him down while he's our only threat. Dude, he's does this every year. You can't win championships with this guy. He's too much of a liability in April/May against elite competition.
  21. QUOTE (buhbuhburrrrlz @ May 13, 2013 -> 07:46 PM) BENCH BOOZER TOO OMG One more year, correct? I can't wait until he's gone.
  22. Assuming the Pacers beat the Knicks, the Heat will have had unquestionably the EASIEST road to travel to get to the finals in NBA history. It's not even close.
  23. QUOTE (bucket-of-suck @ May 13, 2013 -> 07:27 PM) Dunn is not a major league hitter for those that still wonder. He's hitting an ice .100 this month.
  24. Boozer a cool 2/10. Doin' his usual playoff thang.
  25. QUOTE (The Ultimate Champion @ May 13, 2013 -> 10:10 AM) btw theres nothing wrong with being tipsy at 10 in the morning This is accurate.
