Props To Cowley
I was certain this was a sarcastic thread. Cowley was reporting the same thing everyone else was, which as it turned out may have been inaccurate. We'll never know exactly what went on behind the closed doors and neither will Cowley.

Paul Konerko Re-Signs with White Sox
One thing I think we're missing here is the fact that we don't know exactly what has transpired over the past three days. We have been going off of tweets and posts from people who have sources, hear things, etc. We don't know that it was all PK who held this up. And we don't know for sure that he was asking for $15 million a year. My speculation is that the sticking point was the third year. And they came to an agreement including the third year with some creative deferrment. I'm not saying PK is innocent at all, but to say he's greedy and he acted like Jeter...I don't know.

Winter Meeting Buzz
QUOTE (Thunderbolt @ Dec 8, 2010 -> 10:47 AM) I've heard he's lost 40 pounds. Now all he needs is a new head on his shoulders, a work ethic, a time machine, and he'll be good to go. Well, he could be a great clubhouse domino player.

Paul Konerko Re-Signs with White Sox
QUOTE (lasttriptotulsa @ Dec 8, 2010 -> 10:03 AM) 135 HRs in 3 years? Not likely. Dunn however, might. I don't know why I thought he was closer. Yes, that seems unlikely.

Paul Konerko Re-Signs with White Sox
QUOTE (bschmaranz @ Dec 8, 2010 -> 10:02 AM) That's exactly how I'm looking at it. I was on the DLee bandwagon but that was because I was under the impression that Konerko was costing us 15 per. I'm happy with this and I like that they got creative in order to give him that 3rd year. Good work Jerry, good work Kenny. I agree. With Pena getting $10 million, D. Lee might end up getting more than we were thinking yesterday. I like having the middle of the lineup we have now.

Paul Konerko Re-Signs with White Sox
I now expect a trade or two to happen soon. I imagine KW has other plans he was waiting to kick-off once the PK deal was done.

Paul Konerko Re-Signs with White Sox
This is good and unexpected news (the money anyway). Maybe the third year was the sticking point. The money per year is quite reasonable. Now, can PK get to 500 HRs in the next three years?

Paul Konerko Re-Signs with White Sox
It certainly sounds like Konerko will be back, and I'm good with that. As far as the money, I think it has been demonstrated that the Sox have the money and are going to spend it. I'm not overly concerned if Konerko gets $14 million a year or so provided they still go after a bullpen arm or two. Kerry Wood is most likely out of the picture due to him wanting too much money. But there are other FA out there, plus there's trade options. A PK signing today solidifies the lineup, but there will still be questions about the bullpen. So, it may be good news followed up by some nail-biting and swearing. However, I think the Sox will spend the money to get some decent bullpen help.

Paul Konerko Re-Signs with White Sox
QUOTE (chisox2334 @ Dec 8, 2010 -> 07:48 AM) so what is everyone's guess that will happened today? I think Konerko signs, but most of us will think it'll be for too much money. My prediction, the Sox cave and sign him for 2/$28 million with an option for a third year.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Dec 8, 2010 -> 07:36 AM) That would be a very large discount given to us by Crawford. Yeah, Crawford will most likely get north of 6/$132 million. Especially after the ridiculous Werth signing.

Winter Meeting Buzz
The rumors still exist of a 7-year offer for Cliff Lee, but the known teams gunning for him deny such an offer. I would think that one or more of those teams are not being truthful, but I wonder if there's a mystery team out there that has made a 7-year offer. And if so, who could it be?

Paul Konerko Re-Signs with White Sox
$10 million for Pena doesn't really surprise me, but I'm certainly glad it wasn't the Sox making that deal. Good power with little contact. Who knows, he might have a decent year, but if he does he'll be even more expensive next year. I'm beginning to think D. Lee is a better option than PK. Cheaper and he's probably a guy that really wants to prove something. Plus, from everything I've heard he's a classy guy. Him at 1st most of the time with Dunn DHing. I like that. And it would free up $4 million plus for a bullpen arm. I'll welcome Paulie back if that's what happens, but I really want to see a resolution of this today.

QUOTE (fathom @ Dec 7, 2010 -> 06:30 PM) Cubs are trying to acquire Chris Davis and D. O'Day. O'Day is a big time reliever, so be interesting to see what they give up for him. When I first glanced at this post I thought it said Chili Davis.

Paul Konerko Re-Signs with White Sox
Does D. Lee have a cool nickname we can tie into Dunn's? Donkey Kong (if Konerko re-signs) writes itself. Come on creative minds...

Paul Konerko Re-Signs with White Sox
Whatever comes of the PK drama, I hope the winter meetings end with the Sox having signed/acquired someone to answer the questions.

QUOTE (StateStSports @ Dec 7, 2010 -> 11:09 AM) Ken Rosenthal says Sox are in the mix for Kerry Wood. I'd be okay with that. What kind of money is he expected to get?

Paul Konerko Re-Signs with White Sox
QUOTE (103 mph screwball @ Dec 7, 2010 -> 11:10 AM) I'd say to no to Paul for $15 million. As much as I like Konerko, he is coming off a great year and he his getting older. I expect him to start to decline. I have never been in the clubhouse, but I also wonder if his habit of being hard on himself makes the rest of the team tight when there is a slump or losing streak. D. Lee for half as much is sounding better to me. If Konerko comes back, I'll be one of the out of tune dudes chanting Paully Paully! But for $15 per, the team may be more successful going a different direction. Did that $15 mil rumor come from Crowley? If so, Paully is probably already signed for $12 mil. lol That's a good point.

Paul Konerko Re-Signs with White Sox
QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Dec 7, 2010 -> 11:06 AM) If not he'll be forced to take his price down. Supply and demand folks. True. But he might take his price down too late to be in a Sox jersey next year. Which might be okay for both parties.

Paul Konerko Re-Signs with White Sox
QUOTE (Thunderbolt @ Dec 7, 2010 -> 11:05 AM) Paulie has every right to make a power play here, it doesn't mean we have play it with him. I say we set a price, a deadline, and bide our time. He certainly does have that right. But, one scenario could be that the Sox sign someone else (Lee) and PK ends up having to sign elsewhere (DBacks, Rangers) for what the Sox would have paid him anyway.

Paul Konerko Re-Signs with White Sox
QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Dec 7, 2010 -> 11:04 AM) Oh please. He's looking out for him and his family. Other teams would pay him that much. I don't know. That's a ton of money. Maybe Baltimore, but I can't see any other team offering that much.

Paul Konerko Re-Signs with White Sox
QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Dec 7, 2010 -> 11:00 AM) Cowley saying PK is asking for $15M per year. So he wants more than Dunn? Is there a team that will pay him 2/$40 or 3/$45?

Paul Konerko Re-Signs with White Sox
QUOTE (lasttriptotulsa @ Dec 7, 2010 -> 10:49 AM) If Konerko does indeed re-sign. Over/Under 120 hrs for our 3-6? I'll take the over. It could feasibly be like this: Rios - 25 Dunn - 40 Konerko - 35 Quentin - 30 We'll have to see how PK is. 35 might be a bit high. And who knows about Quentin...depends on which Quentin shows up next year. But, I would think 120+ is a safe bet.

Winter Meeting Buzz
QUOTE (SoxFan562004 @ Dec 7, 2010 -> 10:19 AM) it's common with a lot of players, every now and then you'll hear the announcers mention that a players family is in town when it's a home game. I think it's more common than some may think. As far as PK, I thought it was pretty well known that his family was in AZ.
