AND THAT'S A WHITE SOX WINNER!!!
This game was better for the Sox than the 11-0 win. Awesome comeback by the offense, and a spectacular job by the bullpen. Bobby pitched like it was 2005. Was he really throwing his fastball at 99 again?

The sleeper thread
QUOTE (Frankensteiner @ Jul 27, 2010 -> 11:03 AM) Jake Westbrook kinda sucks, but he might outperform Freddy and Hudson for the rest of the season. So it's something to consider. Fausto Carmona?

White Sox Trade Catch-All
QUOTE (SoxFan1 @ Jul 27, 2010 -> 12:00 AM) http://www.chicagotribune.com/sports/baseb...,6156750.column Articles like this piss me off. If the article had been written in really bad English with a bunch of swear words you'd think it was written by Ozzie. God forbid KW tells the truth. Everyone knows he's looking to make deals. I'm tired of hearing that it's the team chemistry that is causing the winning ways. Chemistry does play a part, a big part even, but enough is enough with Mark Kotsay rolling up double plays.

Hudson's command is just terrible
QUOTE (justBLAZE @ Jul 26, 2010 -> 04:57 AM) To some of you experts, how does Hudson compare vs. Clayton Richard? Remember when Clayton hit a bad stretch and he would get shelled second time around (or third?) vs any lineup, everyone wanted him out of town. This year I remember some of you wanting to personally drive Jake Peavy to SD and bring back Clayton Richard! Hudson will be fine, we need him and Freddy to be a damn good 4-5. Pleasy Kenny get us a big bat and let's win this division. I was going to say something about Richard, too. Many thought that he couldn't be part of a trade package because of his inability to string together a few good starts. But, he was a major factor in the acquisition of Peavy.

I want Ozzie and KW gone.
I too thought this was an old thread that got bumped up when I first saw it. And reading through it, I noticed that there was plenty of name-calling and ***. So, it was just like a thread from May. I'm frustrated after this road trip. I've noticed that when this team is good, they are good. But when they are bad, they're really bad. I can't see why Ozzie won't just admit that they need another bat. I'm not sure this team has any business being in first place as they are right now. And unless they shake off this bad road trip and get back to winning, they won't be in first place much longer. If Minnesota and Detroit make a move or two and the Sox stand pat, there's going to many an angry person, myself included. I hope that doesn't happen. And if KW makes a move to get another bat, I hope we see a lot less of Kotsay.

Reasonably Priced Youth Jerseys
QUOTE (Iwritecode @ Jul 23, 2010 -> 11:08 AM) I found some Sox gear at Kohl's for between $20 - $35. Got my daughter a Quentin jersey shirt and some shorts. Great. Thanks!

Reasonably Priced Youth Jerseys
My son and daughter are asking for Pierzynski jerseys for their birthdays. Does anyone know where I can find some that aren't outrageously expensive?

QUOTE (knightni @ Jul 22, 2010 -> 04:49 PM) AJ's got a few more good years left; by then, Miguel Gonzalez might be ready. I'd like to see AJ re-sign. He's much more than a bat and a glove. Besides, my kids want Pierzynski jerseys for their birthdays. If I'm going to spend the money, I hope it means something next year.

July White Sox Catch-All Thread
QUOTE (chw42 @ Jul 22, 2010 -> 02:44 PM) We'd be 4 games up on the Tigers had Bobby Jenks remembered how to pitch... He knows how to pitch...just not well. He forgot that he was supposed to get outs.

QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Jul 22, 2010 -> 02:37 PM) Looks like the Tigers will gain a half game today. The Twins most likely will also. Damn that Bobby left a sour taste especially with an off day to dwell on it. Ugh Yes, I agree. I was quite pissed off that I stayed up to watch that. Makes me even angrier about the blown save.

Sox Will Go Closer by Committee
I'm not sure I can even respond anymore, Greg. I mean, even you have to realize that your defense of Jenks (which is fine...everyone is entitled to their opinions) is way above and beyond your defense of any other player.

Sox Will Go Closer by Committee
QUOTE (greg775 @ Jul 22, 2010 -> 01:50 PM) They should just release him, get rid of the bum. Then if Putz blows a couple save opportunities, find a way to blame Jenks as well. I had to laugh at this line: "When he blows a save, he's a fat ass with bad facial hair." I love the anonymity of the internet. Tell that to his face. He'd kick your ass. Sigh. Greg, greg, greg. You have to cool down, man. Of course Jenks could kick any one of our asses, he's huge and he's an athlete. The point you're missing (and I just can't see how you are missing it) is that Bobby has one job to do...ONE JOB! And he's had trouble getting it done. Enough with the constant defense of him while making sarcastic comments about it. All of us on this site are entitled to our opinions, you included. You don't want to say Jenks is bad right now, fine. But don't attack everyone else because they see and say that Jenks is not getting the job done.

Sox Will Go Closer by Committee
Jenks has gotten some praise this year. I've seen more than once this in a thread: Jenks! But when your closer (whose job is to close out a game without giving up runs!) fails and causes the team to lose, he deserves to be bashed. So what if people are saying he's fat and has an annoying goatee? He is and he does. When he saves a game, we'll ignore those attributes. When he blows a save, he's a fat ass with bad facial hair.

July White Sox Catch-All Thread
QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 22, 2010 -> 11:25 AM) Yep, the Jenks debacle completely overshadowed a pretty pathetic offensive game. The 5-6-7 of Kotsay, Jones, and AJP is embarrassing. Changes have got to be made to this lineup, as you shouldn't have your two hottest hitters batting 8th and 9th and have them followed up by two of the slappiest, crappiest hitters in baseball. Good nicknames for those guys. You could hear Stone reading the lineup: "Slappy leads off, followed by Crappy, then it's Alex Rios..."

Prince Fielder Speculation
I know that Ozzie is supposed to say the team is fine, but damn am I tired of hearing that. To everyone else there is a glaring need for a left-handed bat.

Sox Will Go Closer by Committee
QUOTE (lostfan @ Jul 22, 2010 -> 08:07 AM) I know that was probably a really crass analogy to make but all my other attempts to make the same point have failed. If Bobby can get three outs occasionally that's not really very high praise on its own, it makes him the same as about 95% of other major league pitchers. Yep. Like I said before, Randy Williams would occasionally get three outs. And Threets got 6!

Catch All Anything Thread
QUOTE (Athomeboy_2000 @ Jul 16, 2010 -> 10:45 AM) Very strange thing happened this morning: A high school sophomore (Maybe Jr?) that volunteers for the church I work for work up this morning completely disoriented. He has all his long term memory, but has no memory of the last week and didnt know what day it was. Very very weird. A friend of my parents' woke up one morning and realized he couldn't remember his wife's or kids' names. After going to the hospital it was determined that he had a TIA (a mini stroke).

Sox Will Go Closer by Committee
QUOTE (lostfan @ Jul 22, 2010 -> 07:33 AM) "You guys keep saying he's a bad husband but really let's look at this objectively, he only beats his wife like once a week and the rest of the time he treats her like a queen! Every marriage has ups and downs." I laughed when I read this, then I said, "Wait, he's right!" Obviously losing a baseball game and beating a spouse are VERY different, but your point is true. He has one job, and as good as he's been sometimes, he's been just as bad...maybe even worse. I see defenses of Bobby out there saying if he gets the three outs it doesn't matter how he does it. I disagree. A closer has to be very good at their job, and having said closer come into a game should make the manager, team, and fans feel confident that he will get the job done. Bobby has lost the confidence of his manager and the fans for sure.

Sox Will Go Closer by Committee
Ah, the great closer debate. Bobby sucks, no he doesn't, he sucks... If you blow two save opportunities in a row, you're not doing very well. On some saves, he's looked very good for sure. But Randy Williams has looked good here and there. Bobby is not a good closer. I've said this before and I'll say it again. He was a better pitcher when he threw 98 mph fastballs and that wicked curve. His slider and sinker and other stuff that he's developed have never been as effective. He was bad his last two save opportunities, and he blew those saves. I don't need to see him again when the Sox have a 1, 2, or 3 game lead.

I liked the Contreras deal, too. At the time it didn't seem like much, but did it ever pay dividends.
