He's a jackass. He pisses off the fans of every team he plays for.

QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Apr 21, 2010 -> 07:48 AM) Playing Kotsay over Jones 2/3 of the time (which is what happens with R/L) makes zero sense at this time. I think at times people on the board get overzealous with the Ozzie bashing, but in this case, if he does this, he is just dead wrong. Could not agree more.

I was quite impressed with Danks. His stuff was filthy at times, especially the changeup and cutter. Many of the Rays' hitters looked lost. Nice triple by Rios. The Rios of last year may not have run that hard...or may not have even hit the ball. I think the guy is back. What more can we say about Jones. The guy needs to play everyday. Paulie going 3 for 4 with a HR. Nice.

Playing Kotsay over Jones right now is ridiculous. Jones can hit, and it may be just a hot start but that doesn't matter when the offense is in need of a good bat. Jones needs to be playing as much as possible right now, and Kotsay should be a PH and occasional starter. I admit that I was one of the fools who was for Kotsay playing more based on his ST numbers. Well, now I can see the error of my ways and say his numbers didn't translate.

QUOTE (3E8 @ Apr 20, 2010 -> 01:30 PM) Are there any good beers available in cans? I'm sick of drinking Keystone Light at our softball games. I guess it would have to be not very heavy Fat Tire is available in cans now. It's as good as the bottle version.

QUOTE (iamshack @ Apr 20, 2010 -> 11:51 AM) Tampa has won what, the first 7 on this 10 game road trip of theirs? I'm willing to bet they don't win 9 of 10 or 10 of 10. This is where we turn things around... I hope so. A win tonight may be the turning point. -

QUOTE (iamshack @ Apr 20, 2010 -> 11:08 AM) Yes, they are...but it isn't going to make them play any better by just pretending that the world is ending after 2 weeks of baseball. Teams go through these kind of streaks in the middle of the year all the time and while they are troublesome, they don't get this "world is ending" kind of mentality attached to them because there are other games that took place before that bad streak which give it context. Right now there is no context. But we can give it context by remembering that this is a 162 game season, not a 39 game season, not a 54 game season, not even an 82 game season. Just try to have patience, folks...we'll get this thing turned around...there is too much talent here not to. I think what we're seeing is a lot of frustration being vented. Most of the serious posts right now are saying that there's concern but not panic or "end of the world" thoughts. I'm only speaking for myself, but part of the frustration is the lack of production from the DH position and the seemingly stubborn approach that Ozzie is using. There was a lot of concern over the rotating DH idea, and although we had to resign ourselves to it, we are seeing basically what we expected. I realize it's a long season and anything can happen. But the thought of losing both of these series at home and then going on the road to Texas and NY is very scary. The way the team is playing, it's conceivable for them to be 8-17 on May 3. -

QUOTE (iamshack @ Apr 20, 2010 -> 10:09 AM) You guys are acting like a bunch of pathetic assclowns. We are like 1/13th of the way into the season. I agree, but the Sox are acting like a bunch of pathetic assclowns, too. -

"Run the bases with Kotsay at the plate!" You'd end up standing around home plate drinking beer and eating hot dogs. -

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Apr 19, 2010 -> 12:46 PM) Aside from a few more "Boo"s in the ballpark, nothing. The fan sites are already freaking out like crazy, there's still every statistical reason to believe it's just a crappy start that will correct, and any GM or owner who makes a drastic change in late April based on panic over a few slow weeks deserves to wind up with a decade of losing. I agree that no major change would occur. I was alluding to the fact that there would be "boos" and much internet and newspaper callings for the heads of those responsible. But imagine heading off on a road trip to Texas and New York with a record of 6-13. Ugh.

QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Apr 19, 2010 -> 12:30 PM) I believe the Twins to be the best team in baseball. I think they're the best in the AL Central, but not the best in baseball, although they are playing some great ball now.
-
Well, that is some encouraging information with the run differentials. I imagine we'll all feel a lot better if the Sox win the next two series. I know that doesn't seem likely considering how they are playing. But, if Ozzie pulls his head out of his ass with reagrds to the lineup, and the starters get out of their slump, and a few guys start hitting, anything can happen. On the flip side, if this home stand ends up 2-4 or worse...I shudder to think what will happen.

QUOTE (spiderman @ Apr 19, 2010 -> 10:20 AM) Am I over-reacting to suggest that the season is on the brink of being over....in April? Being 5 games out with a bad offense, a starting rotation that is showing some inconsistentcy and having TB coming in, if something doesn't change quickly, this team is going to find itself 7 or 8 games back by the end of the month. I know some will read this, and laugh, say I'm over-reacting, etc, but seasons have been lost before in April, and I'm not sure this team has the capability to play catchup beyond a certain point. Well said.
-
I'm ready to overreact right now and say Ozzie needs to be fired. But, that's an overreaction. Damn, though am I pissed off about the lineups. Maybe I should go back to being a Pirates fan. At least they are supposed to suck.
-
I won't start a new thread because there's been enough doom and gloom talk, but is anyone else REALLY concerned right now? If this keeps up, and I have a feeling it will, does Ozzie get fired? I'm thoroughly disgusted with the whole DH thing, and seeing Kotsay batting 3rd or 5th almost seemd like Ozzie just being an ass.

QUOTE (ozzfest @ Apr 18, 2010 -> 08:50 PM) Fact or Fiction: *Beckham hits over 290 on the season (Fact - He'll bat around .290 this year and be even better next year) *Peavy wins 15 games (Fact - He will come around and be the ace of the staff) *Jenks finishes the season as closer (Fiction - He gets traded) *Quentin Hits 30 home runs (Fact - His batting average may be a bit low, but his power numbers will be there) *Scott Linebrink will be on the roster come august (Fact - We can't get rid of the guy) * Freddy Garcia will be the 5th starter come July (Fiction - Hudson takes over by June) * KW will make a major trade mid-season (A-Gone type of deal) (Fiction - There will be a few small deals, nothing earth-shattering) * White Sox make the playoffs (Fiction - Unfortunately our less than stellar lineup and the Twins playing better baseball do the Sox in)

GT: White Sox @ Indians, 4/18, 12:05, CSN
hogan873 replied to justBLAZE's topic in 2010 Season in Review
I'm afraid this team is showing its real self right now. I was optimistic early on that things would turn around, but I'm more than concerned now. This lineup that Ozzie wanted and KW gave him is lifeless. I'm going to still cling to some hope for a bit, but if I see Kotsay in the lineup again (especially in the 3 hole!) I'm going to vomit. -

A grand slam, a double, and 6 RBIs is a decent game. Carlos wanted more, though. Maybe we should make him angry again tonight.

Speaking of lineups, who'd a thunk last night's lineup would produce 11 runs?

Getting to .500 after the atrocious 1-4 start would be great. Then a series win in Cleveland puts us over .500!
