  1. QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Mar 17, 2008 -> 07:50 AM) It finally hit me why I feel like we have done this before... Gavin Floyd=Jon Garland Yup. Their histories are so similar, it is scary. Both were very high draft picks who supposedly had mid to high 90's stuff, with a HUGE curveball. They both seemed to lose a decent amount of their stuff on their trip through the minors and beginning in the majors. They both were highly disappointed on their initial trips to the bigs, to the point of both players being traded early in their careers (remember the Garland/Erstad deal that Disney nixed?). They both suffered huge confidence problems after both their stuff and preformances had big disappointments. Finally both became huge targets for their fan bases. We might as well have the Floyd "Fan" Club start calling him "Judy" and get it over with. The one thing that gives me faith about Floyd is how well this regime did with Garland, who was a bust under the Manuel group. They really broke him down and rebuilt him into a very good pitcher. Garland was a guy who you didn't build a rotation around, but you also knew you were going to get solid stats and preformances from, and you could spend your time worrying about other problems. only thing is, Jon pitched consistently, if not spectacularly, every single year from the time he was 20 years old with the big club. I'd say thats a pretty stark difference between the two.
  2. QUOTE(WilliamTell @ Mar 15, 2008 -> 02:50 PM) You guys are having the draft on Easter??? How could you??? haha it doesn't bother me since I'm not in the league, but I'm sure some might not be able to do it. nice catch. i totally forgot. if this doesnt work for people i'll change it. just let me know ASAP.
  3. league ID:213418 password: soxtalk 5x5 but with OPS and Holds added. I just like holds cuz it gives value to middle relievers. also added an extra SP spot and an IF spot. Draft date is set for Sunday March 23 at 1:00 PM does this work for folks?
  4. ok setting up the league right now. sorry for the delay. i'll write back in a couple minutes on the details. i'm hoping for a live draft so i'll make the league, give you all options, and we can pick.
  5. How bout this one: Kaz Matsui-2B- Astros Mar. 13 - 8:03 pm et Kaz Matsui is hoping to return to action this weekend. He's been out for a week with an anal fissure. Source: Astros.mlb.com Related: Felix Pie
  6. QUOTE(JohnCangelosi @ Mar 13, 2008 -> 12:17 PM) Comments from Ozzie: "I'm not worried about it but concerned," Guillen said of Owens' injury. "You give him a couple days to recover and the next day he couldn't be in the lineup. It's something I don't want to deal with during the season." Guillen said he's mindful of what an injury like that did to Scott Podsednik last season. The speedy Podsednik, one of the stars of the 2005 World Series team, jumped in and out of the White Sox lineup with nagging injuries. Guillen doesn't want Owens to go through the same thing. "I'd rather miss him for a couple of days up here than miss him in the season," Guillen said of Owens. Bad news for BA. Just goes to show no matter what, Owens has made this team. So now it's between Quentin and BA? Maybe this isn't news to anyone on this forum but I thought they were going to battle it out in ST. Looks like the decision has already been made. that's certainly far from OFFICIAL...
  7. i cannot believe there are still people in this country that would applaud for Karl Rove. it's disgusting.
  8. QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Mar 6, 2008 -> 11:27 AM) After this offseason's dealings, what do the Mets have left that would interest people? They still have 1 of those OF's, right? Fernando Martinez? Everyone else from their list I'd have been interested in they dropped in the Santana trade. Their system has gone from having a plethora of young guys to being a little thin, but it brought them baseball's best pitcher. So, basically, they'd have to talk about either Martinez or Jose Reyes, or there's nothing left to talk about with them. Pelfrey and Maine too.
  9. QUOTE(LVSoxFan @ Mar 5, 2008 -> 01:12 PM) I consider this a good thing. me as well. leading the league in runs scored off only 3 homers is FINE with me.
  10. i am so effing torn. i am all over clinton's policies, but i think obama has the better chance of winning... damn this all is just getting frustrating to me. can we stop see-sawing and just pick a f***ing nom?
  11. hey everybody, glad to have you all on board! i'll be setting up the league a little later on today when i have some time. but before hand can i get an idea of the settings you all would like to use. I'll do 5x5 but i'm not a huge fan. I like to at LEAST have OPS thrown in but even more can be fun too. Give me your suggestions.
  12. MLBTradeRumors.com Crede to SF for Eugenio Velez? I'd be all for that... frankly i'd be ok with Correia or Velez EDIT: scratch that Correia comment - he'd get smoked in the AL

  14. QUOTE(witesoxfan @ Feb 26, 2008 -> 11:32 AM) I'm gonna go in the way back machine, because I never got a GameCube and the family still doesn't have a Wii, though we will eventually. Anyways, for historical purposes, how much different was Fox from the N64 version to the GameCube version to the current version? Cuz I definitely dominated everyone with Fox on the 64. fox was my boy in the 64 game too - and i still play with a fox clone (falco). his general moveset is similar but obviously everythings faster along with some new moves, but i'd say he plays essentially the same way.
  15. QUOTE(knightni @ Feb 28, 2008 -> 03:22 PM) Why's everyone down on Garland? I can see 14 wins era of 4.35 120ks - not awful. how would he have 120 Ks? his K production has gone down every year for the last three with 98 last year. he's gonna add 20+ K's this year? i guess it's possible but i doubt it. regardless, keeping him is definitely NOT worth it.
  16. QUOTE(StrangeSox @ Feb 29, 2008 -> 02:46 PM) FWIW, he received something like .4% of the vote last time, compared to 2.75% in 2000. i realize that but we all know how much people hate hillary...
  17. QUOTE(BigSqwert @ Feb 29, 2008 -> 02:36 PM) I'm honestly curious why Nader was the tipping point for you. I personally think he will be exponentially more irrelevant this year. he'll be relevant if Hill got the nom. i think a lot more dems would vote for him in that case. he's a non-issue in an Obama/McCain fight.
  18. QUOTE(BigSqwert @ Feb 29, 2008 -> 02:32 PM) Can't stand/loathe Reject/denounce Whatever. personally i see a difference between loathe and can't stand but like you said - whatever. doesn't really matter. point is i'm not a huge fan, i think that's relatively clear. it's just that i'd vote for him any day over mccain so... there we go. EDIT: nothing tears democrats apart like a good ole fashioned primary race... lol
  19. QUOTE(BigSqwert @ Feb 29, 2008 -> 02:29 PM) You don't loathe him?? And you selected Obama because of Nader? Nader just announced a couple of days ago while you posted this on the 15th. no, i don't LOATHE the man. i'm no where near a fan but i dont loathe him. and yes i officially moved to obama because of nader. i said i was leaning that way on the 15th.
  20. QUOTE(StrangeSox @ Feb 29, 2008 -> 02:26 PM) Ok, so who's supporting him for the right reasons? Those chanting crowds that are enthusiastic about his message, or the people supporting him because he can "beat McCain?" ...well... seeing as how i agree with his positions much more than those of mccain... i think supporting the person you agree with and the one who can also win are perfectly legitimate. better than supporting him cuz he made you faint when he spoke.
  21. QUOTE(StrangeSox @ Feb 29, 2008 -> 02:19 PM) After supporting Edwards and Hillary in losing efforts. You're only supporting him because hes the last Democrat standing. im in his camp cuz he's the only one who could beat mccain and nader. i was in the hillary camp till the nader thing happened.
  22. QUOTE(heirdog @ Feb 29, 2008 -> 01:53 PM) I think the Giants and Whitesox were talking a Crede for Lowry swap as a "your damaged goods for my damaged goods" but I am glad from a Whitesox perspective that no move was made. As Kalapse said, Lowry looks like he is right on the cusp of a long rehab period. Crede looks to be okay...and should have a little more value than Lowry. Not sure how Cain has ever come up in this discussion as it would take a lot more than Crede and Uribe (and Anderson for that matter) to land Cain. Would anyone give up Fields and Danks for Cain and a spect? Keeping Crede and Uribe for 1 year (potentially having Uribe at 3rd the following year). not both fields AND danks.
  23. QUOTE(BigSqwert @ Feb 29, 2008 -> 01:58 PM) It's obvious you loathe the man but why is it scary that the people of this country finally care about a politician? i dont loathe the man... i'm in his freaking camp now. i wouldn't be if i loathed him. and it's scary because they care about him for all the wrong reasons. and he knows that, and he manipulates that. look, i'm not saying that i'm worried that Obama will turn out to be satan in disguise, i'm saying that this kind of mentality is scary in GENERAL. I'm applying it to the whole, not just specifically Obama.
  24. QUOTE(NorthSideSox72 @ Feb 29, 2008 -> 01:43 PM) Dude, seriously... Edwards spoke very much like a preacher in his stump speeches. A different kind of preacher maybe than Obama, but still... the whole son-of-a-millworker schtick and talking about wronging rights? He did very much the same stuff. He just wasn't as successful with it. ... i saw a lot of edwards speeches. believe me. and not once did he go on some big "yes we can" chant over and over and over. Not once did he shout that we're going to the promised land. Obama is a politicized Baptist Preacher which is strange considering his religiosity or lack thereof. Point is, he knows how to manipulate crowds - he knows how to work that mob mentality in his favor. and hey, good for him, it'll win him an election. all i'm saying is that that kind of thing as a concept is scary.
