QUOTE (iamshack @ May 27, 2014 -> 04:20 PM) You just basically said the same thing that others said 2 hours ago. Perhaps you have benefited from slavery. I am sure there are some pretty decent arguments that could be put together... I read the thread, could not find a decent argument. My family moved to this country post 1900 and they were minorities who were discriminated against. Why should they pay reparations?
-
Why should my family pay reparations? I can see why you would argue that those who benefited from slavery should have to pay, but what about those of us who received no benefit? What about non-African American minorities, who were also discriminated against. A lot of bad things happened in the past, but sometimes you just have to get over it. Instead of thousands of words, he could have written that sentence.

USA cuts Landon Donovan from World Cup team
Soxbadger replied to Buehrle>Wood's topic in Alex’s Olde Tyme Sports Pub
I trust Jurgen on this decision. -
He needs to improve the mix because his vocals are being drowned out. Kind of reminds me of Lil John/2 Chainz, the beat is good enough, same with the hook. Just needs to improve the verses and probably decide whether he wants to be a hype man or a rapper.

QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ May 22, 2014 -> 04:54 PM) Again, at the end of the day, I don't disagree that losing some awards night is a huge deal. It means little in the grand scheme. The issue here is a school admn being concerned and acting for the wrong reasons. Being concerned that underachieving kids are being excluded and that we should change tradition in response to that is a terribly stupid policy. Belittling accomplishment, despite how silly or unimportant it may seem, is wrong. Sometimes we get the right result for the wrong reason. Schools are full of idiots, Im not going to argue about "Why" something happened, if the end result is a good result. I am going to thank my lucky stars that a bunch of idiot school admins got something right for a change. I thought caring about motivations was a liberal trait?

Its just completely glossing over the fact that the most brilliant kids already get all of the advantages in school, thus they dont need a purely fictitious award. Thats my point.

QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ May 22, 2014 -> 04:31 PM) It's just a parenting style/philosophy that you can see in the news and that i've already experienced personally in the 2 years with my son, that jive pretty closely with political ideology. Maybe not perfectly, but close. And yes, there are horrible parents/parenting styles on both sides. And I disagree with the bolded. Pat the s*** out of everyone's back if you're doing something right. It makes zero sense to devalue someone's achievement just to make someone else feel better about themselves. Maybe some of the kids getting those honors were one of the dumb/apathetic/lazy kids and they worked to get those honors. "And now you've taken it away from them. What are they supposed to think now? Yeah, trying was fun but it didn't get me anywhere. What's the point?" That's a pretty dumb policy. I dont understand how their achievements are being devalued if they dont get a special award show. They are still on honor roll or whatever, thats still the achievement right? Didnt get you anywhere? Since when is a fake achievement in middle school getting anywhere? Let me tell you how my school system worked (super liberal area by the way). It was extremely cutthroat, in 1st grade they were already segregating kids by how smart they were. By JR high they had picked the top 25 students (about 10% of the class) and put them in a special class where they were taught at a faster pace. So when we went to HS we were started off on a different level, thus it meant no one from my JR High who wasn't one of those 25 could ever become valedictorian. Did I need a special awards dinners and all of that nonsense? Of course not. I was already in the preferred treated status, I got special treatment every day, the last thing anyone needed was for the regular kids to told more publicly that they were not on our level. What does that prove? Your kid isnt a brilliant freak, therefore he doesnt get an award? The brilliant kids get recognized every day, they really just dont need more adulation.
-
Parents of medium students need reinforcement that their child is special thus they need an award show to prove it.
-
I dont really see how this is liberal or conservative. Both sides b****/moan when they dont get what they want. I bet their are conservative parents who b**** when their kids dont get an award, just the same as liberal parents. The reality is that no one should give a f*** about awards prior to HS. The point should be going to school, trying new things and being a decent human. The last thing the smart kids need are more pats on the back, if anything its the kids who are in the middle/low end who need to be given hope/encouragement.

QUOTE (juddling @ May 22, 2014 -> 02:09 AM) Not sure how many here still watch but The Americans just wrapped up another strong season IMO......can't wait for more...... Same, one of my favorite shows on TV. Also Survivor delivered another great season.

QUOTE (Jordan4life @ May 21, 2014 -> 05:47 PM) They still get excited over regular season wins against Miami. That's all you need to know about this fanbase. And speaking of white guys, I wouldn't mind that Zach Lavine from UCLA. That dude has got athleticism for days. I also think Levine has some interesting talent. Hes pretty smooth on the court.

QUOTE (bmags @ May 19, 2014 -> 05:13 PM) Not really fair, he was hired in the year we went on a spending spree for Boozer and had just re-signed Noah and Deng. Since then team has been right at or above the luxury tax. But we have seen players sign for less to be on his teams. No it is fair. The Bulls have missed on pretty much every top tier FA in my life time. There is no evidence to support that Thibs has gotten top tier players to sign with the Bulls at a higher percentage. Lets be honest, somehow this ends up with Love/Melo on the Lakers, while the Bulls continue to rebuild.
-
QUOTE (SexiAlexei @ May 19, 2014 -> 03:56 PM) Players want to come to the Bulls because of TT. If you ship him out, you may be stuck with nothing. When is the last time that the Bulls signed a top tier FA? Ill hang up and listen.

Reinsdorf is on Commish search committee
Soxbadger replied to southsider2k5's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Yeah I may not love everything Bush has done, but I think he could make a good commissioner. -
Good for James White, one of the most unselfish team players Ive ever had the pleasure to watch.
-
Yeah I think once Jernigan was gone you could have likely dropped down a bit because there are other good players around, just not really what Bears are looking for.
-
Hageman, Tuit and Jernigan all gone
-
Hard to tell, some people like Nix, Jernigan and Tuitt as well so its unlikely all 4 of them get picked before the bears are up.
-
QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ May 9, 2014 -> 10:16 AM) What is the knock on Hageman, motor? Because the guy is a giant, isnt he? Hageman has a strange past so people consider him a risk. But (imo) he has undeniable talent.
-
If they can get Hageman in the 2nd I dont really care if they missed out on Donald.
-
If the Bears can move down and get Hageman that would be good.
-
Well see what they offer and then see if my firm tries to guilt trip me/pay me to stay. Its a tough one lol.
-
So Im going to get some offers from this company to basically run it. The salary isnt going to be amazing but likely an increase from what Im making. The only catch is that right now I basically have a job for life, going to this new company there would be a risk that the company fails. It would also likely end my litigation career, which makes me feel a little melancholy to write.

Happy birthday!

QUOTE (HickoryHuskers @ Apr 17, 2014 -> 12:47 PM) Obama has been the least supportive of Israel of any President in my lifetime yet US Jews gave him 69% of their votes in 2012. I guess now if they want to complain about this they should do their complaining in front of a mirror. Its far more complicated than "who pretends to care about Israel the most." Republicans are no friend to the Jews.
