The article on spending is interesting. They attribute all of the collateral spending to the war on terror (ie they include the amount spent to improve defense against terrorists), but yet they dont include those figures in WWII, etc. Basically to really compare the spending, youd add to add in all Cold War spending because that was spending done to prevent WWIII the equivalent of spending to prevent another terrorist attack. Also the economic benefit should be "unknown" as we have no idea how the economy responded due to increased US spending on defense. lost, I agree that Osama was not being brought back alive.
-
What can they do? They could give a terrorist access to a dirty bomb. Its best that we let them sabre rattle for a little bit, because what we did was a pretty big embarrassment for their country. I dont think theyll do anything, but this is just sabre rattling to save face.

2011-2012 NCAA Basketball Thread

Some times I like Gus, but I prefer to hear analysis most of the time. -
I believe Bobak's is the exclusive supplier of Italian sausage and Polish sausage at the Cell now. So I am assuming its their Italian, although thats just based on the sign and what Ive read.
-
Im strictly referring to Italian Sausage. I havent tried their polish, but Italians are my favorite, and since the change I cant eat them. And to me that is a major issue and I demand satisfaction. (edit) And taken out of context that can be read hilariously.

The only position change that will be made this season is the change from taking it from behind, to the more romantic missionary position. They want to see our eyes as they get in our ass.

I wish his yelling was effective.

Korver didnt shoot well, but at least in this match up against the Hawks I think he gives the Bulls offense the edge and he has been playing defense good enough that hes not hurting them. I never thought Id be saying he deserves more playing time.
-
Great play by Rose and Korver, they over committed and he made the pas.
-
When I looked at those pictures, my first instinct was "Ive never seen a helicopter that looked anything like that before", there is already a Yahoo article about it. They really needed to destroy that thing more.
-
So far this game he hasnt hurt them on D at all, the one time he got beat Boozer should have been there. Hes actually been playing scrappy which is all they need.
-
Bulls offense has much better spacing with Korver on the floor.
-
When the bulls cant score I just dont understand why they dont get Korver out there quicker.
-
Lets do this thing!
-
Id also change Bobak's sausage from being the supplier of Italian sausage. I dont think we can forget this.
-
Just for the record, after the institution of the Bobak's strike and the failure of the Sox to stop serving Bobak's Italian sausage the White Sox are 0-1.

Official 2011-2012 NCAA Football Thread

Its going to be a hard case against the BCS, unless they can find a smoking gun where they altered the computer results. Even the NCAA tournament does the following: Put it this way, if UNC is 20-10 and Boise State is 20-10, and there is 1 spot left, which team gets the spot? -
If I was JR id probably fire everyone, hire myself as GM and hire Steve to be in charge of bothering other teams about trades.

The award is what made me worried, not the other part where I believe reasonable people could have reasonable differences. I know my first statement wasnt that clear.

I dont see why she wouldnt have a free speech rights in her capacity as a cheerleader? If Im at a sporting event as an athlete can a school order me to say something or else I am expelled from the team? If my coach ordered me to yell racist remarks at the other team, and he kicked me off because I remained silent, would that be okay? Why did she not have the right to stay silent? I understand she may not have had the right to yell rapist, etc., but I cant think of any reason why a student doesnt have the right to remain silent if they disagree. Being a cheerleader is nothing more than being a part of a student activity, and the school is a govt entity so it falls under the scope of 1st Amendment rights. I personally think that she had the right to remain silent. But even on that wasnt what I was getting at. The fact that a Judge went even further: "announced that HS must also reimburse the school sistrict $45,000, for filing a "frivolous" lawsuit against it." How was that lawsuit frivolous? Reasonable people can have reasonable differences, but I cant see how it was so far out there to sue because a school was making her cheer when she wanted to remain silent. Its easy to blame the judges because they made a ruling that some how excludes cheerleading from the first amendment and then ruled that it was frivolous when other similar action would be considered 1st amendment violation but for the fact she was a cheerleader. Do you really think that there is some supreme court case that suggests cheerleaders arent covered by the first amendment? Because a frivolous lawsuit means that there was no chance they could win, and I actually think the District Court was wrong.

Those are the stories where you worry about Judges in America.

Unlike you, I said it was my opinion, so I dont need to cite any sources or back up my statements, because what I believe is entirely what i believe. You on the other hand seem to believe that you have the answer, but you dont have to prove why your answer is nothing more than opinion. All I know is, if you think Im wrong on a subject, I probably am right. Balta, I dont even know what you are referring to. So you agree with me that torture is effective at eliciting information (true and untrue) Where have I ever said that torture was effective at getting truthful statements? All I have said is torture makes people talk, but that it doesnt matter, because torture shouldnt be allowed because its torture, not because of its effectiveness. If you argue its effectiveness and someone can prove a certain form of torture is 100% effective, you then have people argue that form of torture is okay. Conversely if you take my position, if its torture its not okay regardless of the outcome, than you dont have to worry about that situation. Because as soon as its determined to be torture, its no longer okay.
-
Balta, Any confession may include false information (regular interrogation techniques included). Torture will get people to talk. The reason we dont do torture has nothing to do with its effectiveness or ineffectiveness. It is entirely about whether we believe in torture at all. Even if you could find a study that said if you cut a guys balls off he will 100% of the time tell the truth, Id be against it. Because its not about the ends justifying the means, its about the means themselves. Im not sure why people who are against torture would be arguing against this.
