  1. QUOTE(SoxFan1 @ Mar 5, 2005 -> 01:11 AM) Kenny Lofton was great. Your crazy...he lead off, got hits, stole bases, scored runs, and was a verbal leader. Oh, and he played good D. What more can you ask for? At least you're consistent.
  2. QUOTE(Cerbaho-WG @ Mar 4, 2005 -> 09:37 PM) LYRICAL f***ING MASTERPIECE. Oh, no question about it. When my kids are old enough to appreciate music, I will give them all of my 50 Cent albums and mixtapes so that they could live life to the fullest. The term legendary doesn't even begin to describe 50 Cent. The guy is an absolute f***ing genius. That part about rocking wit a pro, flippin the doe, and getting mo fa sho? Classic.
  3. QUOTE(MastaFisk @ Mar 4, 2005 -> 07:34 PM) I was one of the fans turning cartwheels. Though to be fair, it is hard to replace the greatest QB of all time. I just got sick of both Jay and Dave and were delighted to see them go. Oh.. and hello to everyone. First post here. Longtime Sox fan. Also love Bulls, Dolphins and UNC basketball. Cheers. Oh great, not another Dolphins fan. Greatest quarterback of all time...bwahahahahaaaaa!!!!!!! Welcome. Johnny Unitas told me to tell you that it's ooooookay, it's alright, we'll just have to agree to disagree.
  4. QUOTE(Punch and Judy Garland @ Mar 3, 2005 -> 03:14 AM) Royce never became the player people thought he might be, but I'd take him on my team. Yep, you went too far that time. That dude is a waste of space. He's right up there with some of the more disgraceful players in recent White Sox memory, including Kenny Lofton, D'Angelo Jiminez, Wil Cordero, Jose Canseco, etc. The list goes on and on. And I don't mean disgraceful in terms of performance. I'm talking about character.
  5. QUOTE(YASNY @ Mar 2, 2005 -> 09:07 AM) For the sake of discussion, which 3rd Basemen since about 1960 were as good as or better than Santo? Here's a few. Mike Schmidt. Head and shoulders better than Santo. Harmon Killebrew. As a slugger he's better. Not the rest of his game though. Brooks Robinson. To me, Santo compares to this guy. Brooksie was better with the glove, but honestly, not by much. Santo was a damn good defensive 3B. Santo had a slightly better stick, so I think the offensive and defennsive advantages each had balance out. Robinson was the AL AS 3B every year, and Santo held the NL slot most years. Brooks got more national attention due the O's occasionally making the post season and WS. If he was better than Santo, it's a slight difference, in my opinion. Anyone else that fits with these guys that I'm not thinking of? Wade Boggs George Brett Eddie Mathews Brooks Robinson Mike Schmidt Killebrew was inducted into the HOF at 1B, although I do recall reading somewhere that he played 3B for a good portion of his career. HOF Otherwise, that's about it. What current third basemen have a shot at getting in when all is said and done? Chipper Jones, Scott Rolen, and Eric Chavez. If Alex Rodriguez and Jeter are NY lifers, A-Rod will go in as a third basemen. And I'm sure that I'm forgetting somebody.
  6. Ron Santo was an all star caliber player, but not a hall of famer. Of course, I'd have told you the same about Gary Carter and Tony Perez, but both got in, so I dunno. I'll put Santo right there with Jim Rice and a gang of other players who were very good, but not great. The fact that he's a Cub lifer couldn't mean less to me. And yes, I can't say that I have even an ounce of respect for the guy after all of his b****ing and moaning, but best of luck to him as far as his health is concerned.
  7. QUOTE(T R U @ Mar 1, 2005 -> 11:45 PM) Besides, Miami still may Alex Smith instead.. BUT if its a RB my money is on Brown.. he does it all and thats what will fit best into Linehans system Yeah, good thing that Miami really needs a QB. Otherwise, the Bears would have no shot at Brown.
  8. QUOTE(Soxbadger @ Mar 1, 2005 -> 08:32 PM) Did I say 50 was better than Rakim? Nope. I just find it interesting that such a horses*** rapper would admit that his favorite MC is Rakim. Rakim was never one to incorporate topics of immediate gratification into his lyrics.
  9. QUOTE(Soxbadger @ Mar 1, 2005 -> 08:32 PM) LOVE, LOVE ME DO YOU KNOW I LOVE YOU I´LL ALWAYS BE TRUE SO PLEASE,LOVE ME DO OH,LOVE ME DO LOVE, LOVE ME DO YOU KNOW I LOVE YOU I´LL ALWAYS BE TRUE SO PLEASE,LOVE ME DO OH,LOVE ME DO SOMEONE TO LOVE SOMEBODY NEW SOMEONE TO LOVE SOMEONE LIKE YOU LOVE, LOVE ME DO YOU KNOW I LOVE YOU I´LL ALWAYS BE TRUE SO PLEASE,LOVE ME DO OH,LOVE ME DO Those lyrics rock 50, I can see why you would call the first Beatles album a masterpiece. ::shrugs:: That''s just one particular track from that album, and yes, the lyrics for this particular track are very basic. Tell me something, honestly. Are you familiar with any of the other songs from "Please Please Me"? Because I have my doubts.
  10. QUOTE(hammerhead johnson @ Mar 1, 2005 -> 08:24 PM) His favorite rapper was excellent 50 Cent's favorite rapper is Rakim, and here are the lyrics for "My Melody" (Ch-Check Out My Melody reference) That's the type of hip hop that I respect, right there. Too bad that 50 Cent couldn't learn anything from his "favorite rapper".
  11. QUOTE(Soxbadger @ Mar 1, 2005 -> 08:16 PM) Also, a band called the Beatles, first album was pretty vanilla. Love love me do, etc and so on. Well that's a load of crap. Their first album is a masterpiece. QUOTE(Soxbadger @ Mar 1, 2005 -> 08:16 PM) As opposed to these 50 cent lyrics which show talent: Comin up I was confused my momma kissin a girl Confusion occurs comin up in the cold world Daddy ain't around probably out commitin felonies My favorite rapper used to sing ch-check out my melody I wanna live good, so should I sell dope for a fo-finger ring Money and them gold ropes Santa told me if I pass could get a sheep skin coat If I can move a few packs and get the hat, now that'd be dope Tossed and turned in my sleep at night Woke up the next morning n****s done stole my bike Different day same s***, ain't nothing good in the hood I'd run away from this b**** and never come back if I could Notice how this song is not in the gangster mentality. It takes on real problems of the hood. His favorite rapper was excellent, but these lyrics are f***ing terrible. How can you listen to that crap with a straight face? I thought you were like 23 years old??????
  12. QUOTE(Soxbadger @ Mar 1, 2005 -> 07:53 PM) And Hammerhead, They say they are more talented then 50. It would be like saying, Im better than Billy Koch. Then I respond with: Why arent you in the minors even? And you respond with: Well they would laugh at me if I showed up at a training camp, but I swear Im really really good, I just wont prove it, and will sit behind my computer screen claiming that Im god. If your gonna argue atleast have the decency to make applicable points. Otherwise I can make straw man arguments to. SB You might want to review this thread, because I responded to the garbage that YOU typed before anyone ever said that they were a better writer or rapper than 50 Cent. In fact, 3E8 said 50% of the posters on here could write better lyrics than 50 Cent after you made that initial post. LCR made use of the good old hyperbole, but he never actually said that he was better than 50 cent at anything. You came with the same tired argument that I've heard thousands of times throughout my life. You can't criticize Will Perdue because you ain't never played in the NBA! 50 Cent sucks? Wow, well, how many records have you sold lately???? :headshake
  13. QUOTE(Flash Tizzle @ Mar 1, 2005 -> 07:43 PM) Addressing a comment earlier: although I can't locate the website, a large percentage of rap albums are purchased by people who live outside city limits. Those who have no experience dodging bullets, or selling drugs to survive. The vast, vast majority of mainstream rap albums are purchased by white suburban kids (by their moms, actually).
  14. QUOTE(Soxbadger @ Mar 1, 2005 -> 06:30 PM) As for being able to write lyrics, I doubt any one on this site can write lyrics even close to 50's or the names mentioned, because if you could you would be selling millions of records. But then again, I bet you can all write Shakespeare in perfect iambic pentameter, etc, because you are all genius. If I say that Billy Koch sucks, you'd probably tell me that I have no right to criticize him since I've never pitched in the majors. That's the type of argument that you have resorted to. And it's a dumbass argument, to say the least.
  15. QUOTE(TheBigHurt35 @ Mar 1, 2005 -> 03:24 PM) Why shell out that cash to someone who's going to ride the pine behind Jones (who the Bears also paid a significant amount of cash to last year)? They can take a RB later in the draft. 60/40 sounds about right to me. That ratio might be in the rookie's favor before long, as Jones has yet to really establish himself after what, 4 years? He has shown flashes, of course. I'd like a Stephen Davis/Deshaun Foster type combination. That would be beautiful. If one guy gets tired, the othe can come in and do just as well, if not better.
  16. QUOTE(TheBigHurt35 @ Mar 1, 2005 -> 02:53 PM) Well, the "hack" label is in the eye of the beholder, as 50 Cent is pretty damn talented. Yep, the guy is absolutely LOADED with talent. I can't believe how much talent that guy has.
  17. A RB if we stay at 4 (voted for Brown, would give 2nd vote to Benson), but if we decide to trade down and land another 1st round pick, I'd draft the best guy available from these two positions: TE OT
  18. QUOTE(qwerty @ Mar 1, 2005 -> 02:12 AM) Well you know i agree with you about him 100%. But why do you think it will take 5-6 years to reach the level of ben wallace? Give him the minutes wallace does right now and he will do what wallace does, if not very close to him. Offensively he is already clearly superior ( even though it doesn't matter much). Well, IMO, Dennis Rodman and Ben Wallace are the two best defensive power forwards of all time. When all is said and done, Chandler could be up there with both of them. I keep having to remind myself that Chandler is only 22. The best is yet to come.
  19. QUOTE(witesoxfan @ Feb 28, 2005 -> 11:24 PM) I don't follow enough basketball to say I have any true knowledge of this at all, however, I have seen someone on here...maybe Hammerhead...compare Tyson Chandler to Ben Wallace. I think anyone would take Ben Wallace down low defensively. I have Ben Wallace down as one of the Top 10 Defensive Players since the early 60s. The guy is a legend. That said, Chandler is a monster in the making (a 2nd Team All-NBA defender right now IMO) who may come close to Ben Wallace status by the time he peaks in 5 or 6 years from now. Our key to success this season has been FG% differential, or rather, FG% allowed. Chandler is a huge part of that.
  20. QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Feb 28, 2005 -> 02:47 PM) Are you watching games or reading box scores? Tyson needs to hustle? You are kidding right? Unfortunately, no, he's not kidding.
  21. QUOTE(witesoxfan @ Feb 28, 2005 -> 06:08 AM) From the end of your post, I get the sense that you think the Bears will for sure take a running back at 4. I don't see it. I am seriously wondering what is wrong with taking a back in the 2nd round or beyond. The top 10 RB's in this year's class are all pretty solid, and more are pretty damn solid(Marion Barber III, JJ Arrington, Kay-Jay Harris, Frank Gore, Cedric Houston, Ryan Moats...along with a lot of others) If you are the Bears, you do not have to take an elite back in this draft, considering how deep it really is. All you need to do is get a guy who can run the ball well, and could start if Jones went down...that is all. We have the opportunity to draft an elite RB. We've been mediocre at that position ever since the Neal Anderson days. Brown or Benson combined with Thomas Jones would be a beautiful thing. That's the best case scenario from my perspective.
  22. QUOTE(SoxFan101 @ Feb 27, 2005 -> 08:40 PM) lol no unlike Arizona we are still in need of a WR.... I'm saying that it would be an Arizona Cardinals type move. If we're talking draft history, they've been making terrible decisions for more than a quarter century now. The way our team is built now, we need a terrific running back to keep the defense off of the field. Then we'll be able to close out games with authority.
