What makes you thik career diplomats are not political? They all have their ax to grind with someone or something. What about that career diplomat that they sent to check on uranium purchases in Africa? He didn't have an ax to grind? He just interviewed a few people, then came back and reported what he expected to find anyway.

They BOOED Trent Lott! At a funeral, THEY BOOED HIM! How is that QUASI political? When they showed the various politicians coming in to pay their respects, they put up 'applause' on the monitors when the Democrats came in, but not for the republicans. I heard reports that they put up 'Boo!' for them, but I haven't seen that anywhere other than in editorials. The TV coverage showed no Republicans, EXCEPT for Lott, while he was being booed. Hell, the Wellstone family also told the VP to stay home, his respects were not welcome. As for funding, they used the arena at State funded U of Minnesota, so SOMEONE paid for that. Although you are correct, the Wellstone campaign paid for the bulk of the expenses. I misread that the first time thru. As for the people speaking, I think for the most part it makes sense. His VP of 8 years, the current president, and 2 of his closest foreign allies. If Bill of Jimmy were to croak next week, would they want either of the Bush's there speaking? The current one, because he is, for the moment, the sitting President, would make sense, but not the elder Bush. Should he be offended if that occurs? I think Billy is just making a big stink because ANY air time he gets will only help his book. You just know that when his mug gets on camera, that one of the TV personalities will mention his book.

Just wondering if Bill and the Dems (sounds like a bad polka band!) are worried that the Republicans may turn that into a big, televised Republican political event, much like the Dems did with that one Senator's death (Minnesota, I think.). If I recall correctly, that was also taxpayer funded, although MN taxpayers, and the Republicans were shut out and pushed to the side.

Ever notice how there never seem to be any liberal think-tanks, just conservative ones? Is that true, or is 'liberal' just never added in front when talking about them? Someone pointed out earlier in this thread that they didn't think alot of the netowrk people did that on purpose, but they do seem to identify 'conservatives' alot. If they show a group of Senators walking into the White House, they may say something like 'There's Senator Jones from Arizona, and behind him is the conservative Senator from Montana'. Why the need to identify who the conservative is, but not label the other as a liberal?

That doesn't confirm anything, except that rappaport is letting a New York newspaper tell him what is going on with negotions here in Chicago. Yeah, we all know JR likes to defer money, have out clauses, etc, which is why it is believable. So who are you going to believe, Mags, or a New York rag looking to sell newspapers?

So if the going price for a #1 prospect is a "perennial all-star catcher and an absolute stud reliever.", I would trade ANY of our prospects for the same. Prospects are just prospects, not worthy of 2 such players. Otherwise, why are we holding onto Reed, or any of the pthers. Surely they must be worthy of a #1 or #2 starting pitcher straight up?

And he's expected to get better by being pinch hit for whenever a lefty shows up? How is that inspiring confidence in Willie? PLus, it shows teams that if Willie is 4-4, and coming up in the 9th, bring in a lefty, you get him out of the game. Sooner or later he will have to face leftys, he couldn't have done any worse!

I was just going to start this thread. There has been a few occasions this year where it seems that Ozzie picnh hit for the sake of pinch hitting. Unless Willie was hurt, he should never have been pulled.

I don't see what the big deal is. Although the M's had wanted Contreras originally, right now, he sucks, AND is overpaid. Bad combo for a bad, cash strapped team. Unless the Yanks paid all his salary for the durationof the contract, I don't see that deal happening.

While home last year nursing a broken foot, I was subject to that thing called daytime TV. Jerry Springer had an episode, where Trannies were 'coming out' to their guys. One came out, and would have passed, in a dark bar, and had her guy with him/her. When he/she spilled the beans to him, his reaction was "Damn! All this time you wanted sex from behind and with the lights off, I thought you was just a freaky ho!" Some people just have no clue.

Hawk is what I want my broadcaster to be, a fan of the team, a fan of the sport and not afraid to wear his heart on his sleeve. You can also tell you have beenlistening to Hawk for a long time when Hawkisms start entering your daily conversations. I have found myself saying 'I love it when you analyze', or 'stretch!' onmore than one occasion. Get funny looks when the people around are not Sox fans.

Aw, c'mon. I thought it was all about the music! And the sex and drugs! While I don't believe in illegal downloading, the music industry's claims of losses are vastly overstated. While some people who download songs turnaround and buy the actual albums, most people who download songs would never have purchased them. So claims of losses are a bit skewed, since the supposed 'sale' would never have happened. Back in the early days of computers (Commodore 64 anyone?) I had tons of games that were not quite legal. The only one I really liked, I went and purchased. The rest, I would never have played them if I had to pay for them.
