  1. I know the Devilrays outfielders have been mentioned in this thread. FYI, according to the notes I get on them thru my fantasy team, Baldelli, Crawford AND Huff have had contract negotiations on long term contracts halted. Baldelli was supposedly offered a contract and turned it down, no mention if the other two got offers, just that talks of extensions have stopped. Looks like any of the three could be had for the right deal.

    Baj

It may not have looked too bad on TV, but being there, it pretty much sucked. I hope he can/will do better.
  3. Since it is the 'in' thing to be with Kerry, why would people say they are for Bush to pollsters? Wouldn't they be 'embarrased' to say they were for Bush?
  4. Dude, I have the XM for my ride (at least an hour each way) and it rocks! Well worth the cash. As for the ride, you can get a Saturn Vue for under $22k. I have one for work and I like it alot. And the MPG is pretty good also.

    First Car

My first car was a 1976 Grand Torino station wagon, powder blue. Only saving grace was that it had a big-ass V-8 that rocked! Other kids would rev up at stop lights and stuff, thinking I was in a sation wagon. UNtil the light turned green. First NEw car was much better, 1988 Dodge Daytona Turbo with T-tops. Black, manual trans, ann tricked out. Got 100,000 miles on that baby before it finally gave out.
  6. What about 'innocent until proven guilty?' You don't know that it was THESE officers that were the ones recently in trouble, so you are damning all with your assumptions. Why are they also not innocent until proven guilty? The whole problem here is we are all acting under assumptions since the whole story wasn't given. We don't KNOW what the guy did or did not say or do to the officers, and the tape doesn't start before that, so we can't really know whether the use of force was justified or not. YOU are acting as if it is not due to your preconcieved opinion of the force from an earlier incident. I generally like to give the police the benefit of the doubt, and would ike to believe that the driver was an ass and asked for it. Get some more info, then we can b**** at each other with facts. Although that may not be as much fun.
  7. Apparently having his kids around didn't prevent him from trying to blow thru a police roadblock, what makes you think that the kids would have prevented him from doing harm? He wasn't thinking, and that in itself is a dangerous thing.
  8. I will be there with Juddling. Anyone tailgating?
  9. Do you honestly think that they didn't do that first? And second? And third? No, what happened here is this guy just decided that he was going to do what he wanted to, police and hurricane be damned. What would you have done had the police stopped YOU, and told you to turn around? Berate the police, try to go thru anyway or turn around?
  10. And if the guy goes thru the barracade, and somehow gets hurt, who gets sued? You guessed it, the cops who DIDN'T STOP HIM! Oh yeah, 'He's frustrated, leave him alone!' Who down there isn't? With three kids in the car, why wasn't he setting a better example of respect for authority? Now because HE was a dumbass, his kids will have a negative view of the police, who were doing their job.
  11. is anyone going to the weekend games? I will be at saturday's game with my son, and Juddling and I are going to Sunday's game.
  12. I will echo the sentiments here. That is sooooo wrong. I guess I will have to put him on my bench for my fantasy team. I hope this ends well for him, and mom.
  13. How recently is recently? last week? 2 months ago? 6 months? It doesn't say, and with both sides 'massaging' facts to suit their needs, I think that is a timeline you may need first.
  14. You all are missing the entire point that they asked Keyes to run. With the squeeky-clean image that Obama has right now, anyone trying to take him to task for anything will simply look bad. So why not have someone ELSE do it for you? Maybe he exposes a few weak links in Obama for the next election, and once he goes back to Md., he will be forgotten. And Texsox, don't fool yourself, there are alot more black Republicans in Illinois than Alan Keyes.
  15. He was probably trying to make 3 seperate points, but came across as looking like one point jumbled together. I believe he was questioning WHY $10 mil for Neagle and $8 for CJ.
  16. Sleeping in the car works fine, especially since it is not yet winter. My forst car was a 1976 Grand Torino station wagon, which hadone of those little storage compartments in the back. I kept a few blankets, a pillow and an alarm clock back there just for such occasions.
  17. Problem is, Kerry DID pick his service as an issue to run on, which is why it is being talked about endlessly. He served, get over it. It will have no bearing on how he will be as a President. His Senate record should be a better barometer of how well he will do. The votes he made, the votes he didn't bother to show up for, the committee meetings he never bothered to attend, etc. are what SHOULD be talked about, not whether or not Kerry was a dumbass who injured himself or not.
  18. 12 'f***s' in one post! You sound lke my press operator trying to get 2-color, tight registration square flap envelopes to run thru our press on a 85% humidity day! (FYI, NOT an easy thing to do!)
  19. Well, it doesn't work if I am in the garage, but while driving, so far I haven't had a problem. I don't know how the home portable works yet, since it hasn't arived, but yes, it is sattalite, so I am wondering how I would set up the antenna. If you spend alot of time in the car, get it! I have anywhere from 2 to 3 hours a day, so it is worth it for me.
  20. I got XM for Father's Day, and I can't turn it off! I get my choice of rock on my drive in, classical when the idiot drivers really piss me off, country when I am feelin' my hillbilly roots and the comedy station for some good laughs. I have a portable boom box for it coming soon. But prior to that, I did listen to some internet stuff while at work, but still kept switching stations often.
  21. Damn, I miss everything that goes on here. Or almost everything. I wondered why, out of the blue, I got a PM from cwsox thanking me for posting here, especially after we had had several 'differences of opinion' in the SLP section. Now I find out he is gone. I wonder if he knew it was coming......
  22. Yeah, right. By the way, what was a 29 yr old father of 2 from Australia doing fighting in Afganastan for the bad guys? Just curious? Doesn't he care about his kids?
  23. This belongs in the Darwin Awards section. Sorry to sound so cold, but didn't he have a clue that this COULD happen, what with his son in the Marines and all. I understand that you cannot fully be prepared to lose a child, but with a child in the military, and in a combat zone, shouldn't he have thought about this possibility a little bit beforehand? It looked like he was trying to kill himself in that fire. What a coward.
  24. A big reason is PARENTS. The black middle and upper class parents take an interest in their child succeeding in life. They make sure they go to school. They actually parent! But take color out of that whole phrase, and it still applies. Powel is called an Uncle Tom, because he talks all nice, and doesn't believe in the 'victim' role that certain others have ascribed to blacks. Cosby gets slammed because he tells it like it is. Mary Mitchell, a black Sun-Times columnist, gets crap regularly thrown at her when she dares to challenge parents and adults to take personal responsibility. The other reason is the funding issue, brought up I think by sideshowapu. Funding the schools with property taxes just isn't quite fair. I do some printing for a few different school districts. The money spent on one issue of the newsletter for school A, would pay for the whole year for school B. And school C doesn't even have one, much less a band anymore, or cheerleaders, or even most of their athletic teams. One of the schools i do work for has a Badminton team. They have money for a badminton team, while others can't keep experienced teachers. Like the insurance thread, there are many different things that need to be fixed, as no one thing alone will solve the problem.
