Josh Beckett
According to Jayson Stark: "Contrary to numerous reports, the Texas Rangers aren't the leading contender to land Marlins starter Josh Beckett in a package deal with third baseman Mike Lowell. Josh Beckett Starting Pitcher Florida Marlins Profile 2005 SEASON STATISTICS GM W L BB K ERA 29 15 8 58 166 3.38 According to baseball officials who have been in contact with Florida, the Marlins have two other potential deals -- with Boston and an unnamed "mystery" team" could that mistery team be the White Sox? KW loves flying under that radar. But we are maxed out at pitching. Unless this is the first of a chain of events happening. Like #1 Beckett and Pierre for Rowand and top prospect. #2 White Sox trade Garland and prospect to Phils for Thome? I dunno im probably overthinking this situation.

Thome Willing to Accept Trade
I'm all for this KW! Just please don't trade away any of our starting pitchers! They are what got us a WS title!

JUAN PIERRE
No thank you- why tamper with a championship type product. I love our outfield as is. And why are we stressing for more speed? We need more power. If I were KW I would try my heart out to re-sign Konerko first. Then starting thinking about Thome. After that everything is okely-dokely-doo! Why trade Rowand (an awesome defensive oufielder who can hit for a decent average, has some power and some speed) for more speed, a defensive downgrade, and less power? Makes no sense to me?! I'm going to have to pull a Hawk and say "Where would he play?" Iguchi is fine at #2. Enough said. This is what I want as our '06 starting lineup: 1. Pods LF 2. Gooch 2B 3. Dye RF 4. Pauly 1B 5. Thome DH 6. Rowand CF 7. A.J. C 8. Crede 3B 9. Uribe SS Not many changes nessecarry but the add of Thome makes us a bigger offensive threat and we still have pleanty of speed!

Lets stir up the pot a bit
What is Ichiru's contract status?
-
Lets stir up the pot a bit
Its not even worth dreaming about. The Mariners will ask for the entire team for Ichiru. However, a 1-2 punch of Pods and Ichiru is druel worthy.

Bob Nightengale: Sox Tell Phills They Want Thome
I think KW knows he can't risk trading one of our starters. NONE of them are expendable. If he can somehow bring Thome here by paying little and giving up very little- he shall be praised once again by White Sox nation!

Official Re-sign Paul Konerko Thread
QUOTE(fathom @ Nov 18, 2005 -> 06:28 PM) No, they asked for King Felix! Damn! So that means they are going to be asking for BMac probably. LOL that wont happen. If Philly wants anyone decent in return for Thome they will need to eat more than half of his contract. And even then I wouldn't give up BMac. Maybe Baj or Sweeney however.

Official Re-sign Paul Konerko Thread
QUOTE(fathom @ Nov 18, 2005 -> 06:26 PM) Well....they did ask the Mariners for a pretty s***ty pitching prospect. Really? So they are just in the 'dumping mode'? They can have a prospect or 2, but they also need to EAT a lot of his rediculous contract.

Official Re-sign Paul Konerko Thread
By the looks of things Thomas days are over on the Southside. With all this Thome talk out there and all. I DONT want Thome as our 1B I want him as our DH. Pauly should be our top priority, no doubt about it. Anyone know what kind of players Philly is asking for in return? I hope not one of our starters.

Sox Cliques
I know Timo Perez and Juan Uribe are best friends. You also have the Cuban connection of Contreras and El-duque You have the 3 stooges (Row, Po, and Joe) Yes, Buerhle and Garland are tight. But then again Buerhle is homeys with everyone on the team. Garcia and Ozzie's sons have a family connection, I always see them hanging out. I often see Podsednick chilling w/ Rowand and Dye on the bench. Oufield luv! GROUP 4 (Now Group 3! w/ Harris, Perez and Ozuna) Vizcaino and Marte are tight Cotts is homeys with Adkins All in all everyone on the team gets along and the chemistry is solid. Who cares what the cliques are, as long as we are winning and having fun.

Blum Returns to Padres
QUOTE(Steff @ Nov 17, 2005 -> 03:42 PM) I hope somehow he can be a guest at Soxfest. They should have everyone together at the opening ceremony. Thats what im wondering. WHat happens if Pauly leaves also. Are we going to do what Boston did and invite players who signed elsewere to enjoy the ceromonies? It just wont be the same but I think it would be the right thing do do. Lets see: You have Soxfest- in which the players will be cherished more than the '85 bears by the fans. You have Opening day- where the players will get their WS rings. Not to mention the raising of: 1. The AL Central Divsion Champions Flag 2. The American League Champions Flag 3. THE WORLD SERIES CHAMPIONS Flag Wow i wouldn't miss that if i were Pauly, Frank, Carl, Blum, exe.....

Sox have interest in Piazza
Wow, im surprised with all the negative Damon response? I think he's an awesome offensive threat. YES, he would be a downgrade in RF defensively, but he would be an awesome #2 hitter. I was simply just throwing it out there just in case Pauly walks. Ozzie wants more speed at the top of the lineup. He wants Iguchi lower for offensive production reasons. Hmmm Ozzie wants more speed. JR/KW want alittle more power- WWKD? (What will Kenny Do?) Its going to be hard to keep the team together if the want to fulfill those wishes. If Pauly leaves- we lose power, and JR and KW want more power?! Somethings got to give here? If Pauly leaves- trades WILL be made.

Sox have interest in Piazza
QUOTE(Steve Bartman's my idol @ Nov 14, 2005 -> 08:04 PM) I'd much rather have Frank Thomas as the Sox' DH!!! We all would like Thomas as our DH and he will be our DH. HOWEVER, he hasn't played a full season since 2003. 2001- Missed most of the season 2002- Played a full season (but a bad year for him) 2003- Had a vintage Thomas season 40 hr, 100 rbi's. 2004- Missed half of the season (ankle). However, before he got hurt he was putting up monster #s 2005- Only played 23 games. See a patter? you can't go into a season w/o a backup plan for Frank. Frank will be back. But KW knows that we need a 2nd option- just in case. He obviously can't cost higher than $4-5 million/ year. So why not go after a Piazza? We can probably sign him for about $4 mill/year for about 2 seasons. In the Cell he can really jack the ball out of the yard. There is also some talk that Ozzie wants some more speed behind Podsednick. So why not make a run for Damon? If we can't resign Pauly- why not Dye play 1B and Damon plays RF? Damon and Dye were teamates in KC and im sure he would play some sort of role of getting him over here? Imagine this: Pods LF Damon RF Dye 1B Thomas/Piazza DH Pierzynski C Iguchi 2B Rowand CF Crede 3B Uribe Ss Not too shabby and still have to core of the championship team still here. What do you guys think?

as Hawk would say "I Love Ozzie Guiilen" Thank you Ozzie for help guiding our team to the title! You deserve this award! Official Re-sign Paul Konerko Thread
Latest rumors (abc 7 news) stated: KW will pursuit Todd Helton if he cannot re-sign Pauly. KW is also NOT interested in aqcuirering Manny Ramerez. I guess there were talks a few weeks back about Manny's high interest in playing for Ozzie Guillen. Todd Helton is an awesome offensive player. And at the Cell he has the capabilities of putting up big #s. However, he is no Pauly. But not a bad 2nd option to have- JUST IN CASE!

Official Re-sign Paul Konerko Thread
QUOTE(Big Hurt Way Back @ Nov 10, 2005 -> 02:44 AM) I heard on ESPN that the White Sox have offered a 4 year 52 million contract to Paulie. I don't know if that is jsut speculation. I think for that price of 13 mil a year Paulie will stay. That sounds like a very fair offer. But the only thing that scares me- is the length of the deal. He'll probably want a longer deal.

Will you want next one as much?
It reminds me when the Bulls won their first title. It felt sooo damn good to finally win it. Its a feel of relief, enjoyment, pride, and excitement. BUT, after you win that FIRST one. You become addicted to winning it again. (See Michael Jordan and the 90's Bulls) Now that we have that first taste of winning it all in our mouths- I want it more and more. Defending a title is very special. As a fan we should take pride in our 2006 White Sox. Because for a full season and hopefully more we are the champions of the world. So what means more to me? Probably winning the first one. But what will be more of a party? Winning that 2nd one. And winning it AT HOME!!! (see 1992 Bulls)

Official Re-sign Paul Konerko Thread
Quick questin: When was the last time a high profiled player took less money to stay w/ his previous team? I know it doesn't happen often, but Pauly seems like the kind of guy to take less money to stay w/ us. Just a hunch. I know money talks unfortanately, but being a defending champion talks much louder IMO. And if Pauly walks and heads to a new team- he can't be considered a 'defending champion'.
-
If We Lost Konerko........
Good article, and its good to look at other options just in case Pauly decides to go elsewhere. However, everything would be easy if PK just re-signs! My heart says he will, but my gut feeling is saying he'll leave. Jermain Dye is an excellent Right Fielder. Why mess up our awersome defensive outfield? I don't want to see Rogowski up here and dont want to see Gload as our full-time 1B. Soooo, with that being said I would rather KW go after Overbay. He'll likely be on trade market saying Prince Fielder is there 'next big thing'. Saying the Brewers and Sox have established a trading partnership based on last years blockbuster deal- i can see Overbay making his way over to the southside. The thing is what will Kenny give up to aqcuire him? Who knows?!?

Steve Phillips Press Conference
Yea I saw that. I couldn't believe it. The Critic is right, ESPN needs something to do now that baseball is over. What a joke that was. What they can't wait to hire a GM for an official press conference that they need a mock press conference? ESPN= Boston Red Sox television. I'll stick to Comcast- its all the Chicago sports we can ever ask for.

Long Term Deal for Garland?
QUOTE(aboz56 @ Nov 3, 2005 -> 05:21 PM) I believe the California Kid will be FA eligible after next season. If he isn't signed this offseason, he will be shopped during the course of next season or even during this offseason. I'd like to see a 3 year, 21 million dollar deal for Garland with an option for a 4th year at $8 million. Couldn't agree more Aboz. Even if we can't re-sign Paulie. Why not lock up our pitching staff? Buerhle and Garcia are signed through 2007. Contreras/ Garland and El-duque are free agents after 2006. I like to see KW lock down my boy Jose Contreras and John Garland to at LEAST 2008. If KW can't sign Pauly- I expect the money to go to these 2 gentlemen. Not to mention raises for Crede, Pods, and Uribe. Lets also not forget a 3-4 year deal for AJ at about 4-5 mill/year. So the money can easily be dispersed to the players we already have. But if we can have Buerhle, Garcia, Contreras, Garland and BMac as our rotation for the next 2-3 years, I would be happy as hell!
