QUOTE(3E8 @ Jan 11, 2005 -> 07:21 PM) Why haven't we had press conferences for our new guys? because KW isn't finished with his moves yet? and possibly wants one HUGE press conferance with all the new faces there.

If the Sox do aquire Byrnes and Dotel, Bean will probably want Harris and a highly rated prospect in return. Knowing Bean it will probably be either Brian Anderson or Ryan Sweeney. But if this trade happens it makes our pen even STRONGER and it also could mean the trade for Javier Vazquez as you guys already mentioned. Garland and Byrnes for Vazquez makes sense to Arizona, and it makes sense for us, solidifying our rotation and it makes our bullpen stronger. ALSO, Oakland gets their 2B and some talented prospects to add to their rebuilding plans. All in All everyone leaves this deal a winner. GO FOR IT KW!!! If this happens the only move left is that darn 2B we need! Hopefully that happens soon!

Who cares if he ends up with the Cubs. In fact the Cubs are looking more and more like the 2000-2004 Sox. Waaaayyyy too many right handed power hitters. And we only went to the playoffs ONCE! and got swept. Yea i guess the Cubs have better pitching then we had during those days, but right handed power hitters always go in major slumps as we witnessed during that era, and how can pitchers win 2-0 all the time? So for all of you Sox fans who will be pissed if Maggs goes there, DONT be. It might look good op paper, but it only turns out to be dissapointing seasons.

I like the bullpen, I like the starting rotation, the line-up is decent, the defense has improved tremendously... I'm going to say the A.L. Central will be a 3 team race between the Indians, Twins and us. The Tigers are on their way, but i still don't think this year they can contend. The keys to success this season are: *Jose Contreas- Can we see more of the Cy Young and less of him throwing batting practice? *Jon Garland- Can he finally win 14-15 games? *Joe Crede- Can he rebound from an aweful season? He should use 2003's version of Konerko and 2004's version of Konerko of an example that it is possible to bounce back. *Health Concerns- Injuries do happen, but it is important to that they are at a minimum. It will take awhile for Frank to get back to form when he returns from his injury. But how long will that take? Can El-duque pitch a full season? He hasn't done it since 2000. Can Jermain Dye play a full season? He has been injury prone the last few years. **Most importantly can Posednick steal 70 again. And can he get on base more as our leadoff hitter, and can he improve on his .244 batting avg? IMO Posednick is the key to success in 2005. If he constantly gets on base, we will go long ways in '05.

Next Player you think the Sox will get
GreatScott82 replied to Cubs Suck23's topic in Pale Hose Talk
I want Castillo but we will most likely get Iguchi. But you never know.....stay tuned. -
remember everyone. Castillo is an everyday player and can help us win EVERY GAME! Marte will indeed help us win but every few days. Come on, having Castillo in our lineup is drool-worthy. Imagine this: Podsednick CF Castillo 2B Thomas/Everett DH Konerko 1B Dye RF Rowand LF Peirzynski C Uribe SS Crede 3B And hell if KW needs to aquire another Lefty-setup man in the middle of the season, he'll do it!

QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Jan 9, 2005 -> 05:52 PM) Aj is a good defender. Alf is brutal at 2nd, he strikes out way to much, he doesn't get on base, we have enough power, we don't need another player like Soriano. I agree. Soriano would fit the oldstyle White Sox, the pure-power era. But Castillo would fit exactly what KW and Ozzie are shooting for in the pitching, speed, and defense era. A Speedy-Contact hitter, who can play excellent defense.

QUOTE(beck72 @ Jan 9, 2005 -> 03:09 PM) The marlins desperately need some LH power. Juan Pierre led the team with 3 HR's [1 being an iside the park homer] from the left side. With that being a huge need, Beinfest seems to get exactly what he wants. His deals last yr were great. If they see Delgado as the #1 need, they should have a great chance ot land him Remember the Marlins traded Derek Lee for Hee Sop Choi. It was purely to move a guy that was in the last year of his contract. If Castillo is in the last year of his contract I can really see a trade happening? I would trade Marte & Harris for him in a heart beat. It would hurt to trade Marte, but what is more important an everday all-star 2B with speed and great defense or a Lefty set-up man? KW should really consider this as the 2B option.

QUOTE(Texsox @ Jan 7, 2005 -> 04:40 PM) Isn't Burke theoretically the back up 3B? Now that is also clouded. Burke or Valdez that makes me sick. :headshake I say if the Iguchi thing falls through, just sign Cora, he can play 2B, 3B, and SS.
-
QUOTE(babybearhater @ Jan 6, 2005 -> 05:36 PM) AMEN on the T Graffinino line, I wish he was still here. when is graff's contract up in KC? maybe we can get him in the middle of the season via trade.

White Sox exact offer to A.J. Pierzynski...

QUOTE(YASNY @ Jan 6, 2005 -> 05:21 PM) I'm having recurring flashbacks of 2003 .... We offered Kenny Rogers one million, the Twins offered him two million. That was difference folks. In a nutshell, we lost the 2003 AL Central division championship over a million bucks. That is why KW needs to forget Iguchi and just sign AJ. Offer A.J. 3 million and then shoot for Cora, he'll come cheaper than Iguchi. -
A.J. just might be what the Sox need to finally reach the playoffs. He comes through in the clutch, he is a proven winner (with the Twins), has a solid batting avg, lowers ERA's for his pitchers while enforcing behind the plate. With the loss of Maggs and Lee, A.J. can minimize the lack of offensive production. Lets face it, Ben Davis is a solid back-up catcher, but not once has he proved he can start and be solid on consecutive days. Yes he had his few offensive spurts last season, but believe me- it won't last the entire year. KW should just consider leaving the whole Iguchi thing alone and focus on AJ. After some thought, I believe that Willie just needs a full season (like Rowand did) to show us really what he is made of. He can be the #9 hitter, in that case Willie and Pods can bat back to back in the lineup. If Willie doesn't prove himself by the All-star break, then make a trade to a non-contending team, for their 2B. (JUST NO MORE ALOMAR) So that being said KW should offer AJ the 3 million he is seeking, and look for a decent utility infielder on the market. (It's too bad Graffinino wasn't out there)
-
It reminds me of the Rowand in CF situation over the years. 2002 KW signed Lofton (sorry Rowand) in 2003 he was ousted in the middle of the year thanks to the Everett trade (sorry Rowand) and in 2004 he FINALLY was given the oppurtunity to play everyday and it payed off. Last season Uribe played a great deal of 2B due to Harris' struggles. And this year if KW gets Iguchi the only role I can see Harris having is a pinch runner. I still wonder what the bench would look like...
-
What is Iguchi's age? And how are his fielding #'s. They said back in 2001 that he was a wizard in the field, but that was 4 years ago. Even if he bats .265 has 20 steals, and 15-20 HR's thats a major upgrade over Willie. That also makes me think, if KW does some how bring home AJ and Iguchi what will our bench consist of? Willie Harris INF, Ross Gload 1B/OF, Carl Everett DH/OF, Timo Perez OF, Alex Escobar OF, Ben Davis or Jaime Burke C, Wilson Valdez INF. Now I know that is way more than the normal amount of bench players. I mean is Valdez really capable of backing up Crede and Uribe? Can Harris possibly play SS? What do you guys think the bench will look like.
-
Yea it has to be Alex Cora. I'm sure Joey (his older bro) is begging KW to bring him over to the Southside. I expect Alex to sign right before the New Year. It's a shame we could'nt bring Eckstien here. He would've became an instant fan favorite. But i'll take Cora, his defense is remarkable.

Remember everyone! Buerhle relied a lot on run support! A lot of the games he won were due to the Sox scoring 5-8 runs a game. I don't see that happening as often this season due to the departure of Maggs and Lee. So I say: Buerhle 14 wins (w/ a bunch of no decisions) Garcia 18 wins (expect an awesome year from him) Hernandez 13 wins (a decent year, but i expect he'll miss a few starts due to an injury) Contreras 12 wins (i agree, he'll have an up and down season) Garland 16 wins (i really think he'll finally come out of his shell this season and it will be about damn time!!!)
-
the sox still need a 5th starter, shortstop, second basemen, third basemen, and a catcher. why would kenny make that trade and not get a fifth starter???? if they pocket that money then we are doomed. remember our record last year in the fifth starter spot. this is no joke.

Despite earler "for Hudson only" statements...

Lets make a move for burnett it wouldnt hurt -
KW needs to go after ZITO!!!

I like listening to their shows, but i agree about their SCORE updates. They absolutely suck ass. They really aren't even updates, they are more just like personal opinions mixed with a little bit of an update.
-
yea the SCORE has not been a succesful source lately. They were the ones that said the Sox were out of the Garcia sweepskates last season. And the last SCORE update from Goerge Hoffman stated "The Sox are all but out of the Clement bidding as he will likely sign with Bo Sox or Angels." Then he rambled on about how the Sox have over $7 million left to spend from the Lee deal and KW might not spend any of it. He also mentioned names like Perez, Milton and even freakin Estes! Gimmee a break. I hope the SCORE is indeed a load of BS because if Perez and Clement sign on with other teams, we might as well get the carosel back out for the infamous 5th starter debacle- V2K5 edition. What ever happened to the starting pitching being the #1 priority?
-
-
Well sinse were out of running for Johnson and Clement whos are best guy left we could sign besides odalis perez?
-
What will we do if you do trade away garland for Johnson? go with Grilli at the 5 spot?
-
I agree if clement is most likely out of Kenny's budget then go for Perez and hes not as hot as clement right now in the market
