  1. Looks like we may have found our next Cuban star... Sign him up, Rick!
  2. QUOTE (SCCWS @ Nov 1, 2014 -> 07:52 AM) Ozzie did pretty damn good with none as a manager his 1st time in. To his credit, Ozzie was on the Marlins coaching staff in 2003 during their championship run. I don't think experience is necessary, but it definitely can't hurt.
  3. QUOTE (GreenSox @ Oct 30, 2014 -> 05:49 PM) It wouldn't surprise me if we go after him. don't lose a draft choice either, right? I really would hate to go after Markakis after reading the eerie similarities between him and De Aza on this board. I can see an outfield upgrade via trade.
  4. Sandoval would be an intriguing signing. I like Melky but that suspension freaks me out....
  5. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Oct 6, 2014 -> 08:17 PM) I don't know why you'd deal Ramirez or Quintana and spend money on the FA market. Exact opposite directions. Perhaps they like a player MORE who is currently property of another team than any free agent out there? Your saying Hahn can't make trades AND acquire free agents? For instance, look at the offseason KW had 10 years ago. Trade: Carlos Lee for Pods and Viciedo Sign: AJ, Iguchi, El duque Just because you trade players AND sign FA's in the same offseason, it doesn't mean you are going in 'opposite' directions. Your just being creative with your assets in attempt to make the team stronger.
  6. For the first time in a very long time, the Sox have A LOT of room financially to make a significant splash in free agency. Not only that, the Sox will keep their 8th overall pick in next years draft. I am super excited to get this offseason rolling. Obviously a lefty hitter, righty starting pitcher and the bullpen will be the focus. My only wonder is if will Hahn make any shocking trades that can change the landscape of this roster next year? Will he go bold and deal someone like Ramirez or Quintana??
  7. I'm just grateful they didn't move to Sarasota back in the late 80's. The Sox are still here, us fans have a nice stadium to watch a game at and we can tail gate One thing that I do occasionally think about is the fact they were pretty close to building the new park in Addison, IL. I wonder how that could have changed things?
  8. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Sep 2, 2014 -> 09:28 PM) You realize that he missed the entire 2012 season with injury so his numbers that season include 0 hits, 0 home runs, 0 runs scored, and 0 RBI? His numbers last year included a 112 OPS+. He only hit 14 home runs last year, 28 this year. His numbers this year are spectacular. His numbers last year contributed about as much offensively as Adam Dunn the last couple years. The year before that, injured. You got me there. However, I've always been a fan of VMart. I wouldn't hate the idea of bringing him here. The dude can rake. Some guys seem to get better with age.
  9. For all the age discriminators out there, have you looked at Victor's numbers over the past 3 seasons in Detroit??? The dude can rake! I would LOVE to have him as our full time DH next year.
  10. QUOTE (chitownsportsfan @ Aug 31, 2014 -> 08:08 PM) don't forget keppinger. Really the only guy I'm a bit pissed is still around is Tank. Tank is still pretty young and has a little value left. I'm assuming he will be traded this offseason for a decent prospect.
  11. I'm not sure what Hahn has planned for this offseason, but I am thrilled that they are FINALLY cutting their losses with Beckham, Dunn and De Aza. This winter will be exciting if Hahn's statements are true about being aggressive in the offseason.
  12. QUOTE (raBBit @ Aug 15, 2014 -> 02:02 PM) I would have loved to see the Sox in the same Loop area as the Bears but obviously that'd be really tough on people from the suburbs. The Cubs being located in a drinking village and the Sox being located in a middle-of-the-road neighborhood really makes a difference. A stadium with the skyline right behind would blow away the view of projects. Reinsdorf was hoping that the Addison stadium would come into fruition. The residence of that suburb voted against it. If they built the stadium in the South Loop, I think that would have been a gold mine. The South Loop is really looking great these days.
  13. I remember the Sox coming close from moving to Sarasota back in the late 80's. I never want a scare like that again. The White Sox belong in Chicago.
  14. QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Aug 4, 2014 -> 08:17 PM) Rodon's stuff looks sensational in the little bit I have seen so far. He also looks like a badass on the mound. He strikes guys out and just stares them down at times it seems. It can turn some people off but he's going to be so fun to have in the organization. Below is some video taken by Josh Norris and an article by Dan Hayes with quotes from Nick Capra. http://www.csnchicago.com/white-sox/white-...-exciting-watch The next big thing is here!
  15. QUOTE (CaliSoxFanViaSWside @ Aug 4, 2014 -> 08:19 AM) Exactly. The goal was and will continue to be adding to the core for sustained years of contention. Bullpen pieces usually can't be counted on to be a core piece unless you have a lock down closer like Mariano Rivera, Kimbrel and Street. As important as a good bullpen is its usually a year to year crap shoot. This year the Sox rolled snake-eyes. Adding core pieces Hahn did pretty good. Bargain basement shopping and trade candidates developing for flipping , not so good. Probably needed 2 of those 3 to compete this year or make a big advance in the master plan. So overall a lot of improvement from last year but not enough to get optimistic about next year unless the Sox add free agents who are always too old to be considered core pieces or starts using his better minor leaguers in trades. Remember Abreu is the oldest core piece so the window revolves around him and the health of all the core pieces. Agreed. The good news for Abreu is we rely on his bat and not his legs. I say we have him for at least a solid ten years. The current core is: Eaton CF Garcia RF Abreu 1B Gillepsie 3B Sale SP Quintana SP Knocking at the door: Micah Johnson 2B Carlos Rodon SP Hahn has done a good job putting together that new core, but there is a lot of work to do!
  16. The injuries of Jones and Lindstrom really put the organization in a tough spot. I thought what Hahn did last winter, trading Reed and Santiago away for young position players was a very smart move. We took an area of strength in 2013 and addressed an area of great weakness, which at the time was the offense. I don't think any of us feel bad about that Santiago for Eaton trade now do we? And I am still hopeful that Davidson will turn things around. The fact of the matter is, the organization does have a solid reputation of developing pitchers out of the bullpen, however; this year it has been a challenge to do that. I do like the progress made by Petricka and Putnam. In a year of growth, I'd say to have the bullpen the only real concern for 2015 is a success.
  17. Hahn seemed a little upset about failing to execute that 3 team deal. I wonder if that can still be pulled off in the waiver trade month? Is it even possible to work out such a deal during this time?
  18. QUOTE (The Ultimate Champion @ Jul 30, 2014 -> 03:16 PM) Just wondering, it says Lackey is probably going to be traded, and there were reports of the Sox scouting Boston's MiLB system because of a possible Danks deal. What if that is wrong & we're really looking to get Lackey and that's the real connection? Just throwin it out there but he's a righty who will make the league minimum next year and if Danks goes then a Sale-Lackey-Q-Noesi-Rodon rotation next year could be respectable. Probably not a contender but with enough offense it could be. I guess you never know what's going to happen. I thought it was also interesting that the Sox were scouting Boston's farm. Perhaps Hahn is working on yet another three way deal? I really don't see the White Sox giving up prospects at this point in the "re-tooling" process. Kudos for looking outside the box though. I guess at this point anything can happen.
  19. QUOTE (Eminor3rd @ Jul 30, 2014 -> 08:52 AM) This is where I am too. I would love for the team to convince Hahn that he needs to improve the MLB roster this offseason. While having a protected pick reduces the pain of signing top free agents, it also substantially reduces the incentive. I think you can have the best of both worlds here. I really don't think it matters if the Sox finish the season with 75 wins or 81 wins. I honestly believe Hahn will be aggressive in the FA market this winter regardless. I also have noticed that Hahn and the organization are finally putting a premium on draft picks. If you look at the farm system, it has improved quite a bit from where it was in 2012. The organization and most other MLB teams know that you need to build from within in today's game. Especially with the limitations of the new CBA. With that said, if the Sox are in the bottom 10, they can get that coveted first rounder AND have a solid chance of obtaining a top tier free agent with a risk of only losing a second rounder. Another thing to consider is some of these FAs might not even cost a pick if they were denied a QO. In my opinion, we will not see much of this as teams want draft picks. The best case scenario will be for the Sox to drop in the bottom 10, sign Shields and possibly a C and new DH, get another talented first round draft pick and be ready to compete in 2015.
  20. QUOTE (LDF @ Jul 30, 2014 -> 05:06 AM) if we make a trade fine, if not we can add the final pieces thru FA's. with Dank in the lineup, and again no off season trades, I still think a very good sp. while there is high hopes for Rodon, I am not going to put all my eggs in the basket so to speak, as we did last off season. a catcher is needed, dh and rp are needed. a few pickups will get the sox into the playoff. look at this yr, this is a rebuilding yr and yet the sox came close and the season is still not over. One thing I worry about with us winning lately is that first round pick next year. I'm pretty sure the top 10 first round picks are protected, anything beyond that and the Sox will lose their first round pick next year if they sign a type-A Free Agent. As much as I want us to sign Shields, I would hate to sacrifice such a high pick. As of right now the Sox are the 11th pick. Not that I support losing in any way, but the Sox can truly benefit from being in that bottom 10. Another first round pick AND some decent FA signings and we will be in much better shape next season.
  21. One thing to keep an eye on tomorrow morning is if Danks is pulled from his scheduled start. The game is at 1:05. FWIW.
  22. I wonder if Eaton is better suited for the 2 - hole instead of leadoff? If Micah Johnson proves himself early next year, I would like to see that. Micah-Spanky-Abreu= (speed, scrappy, power)
  23. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Jul 29, 2014 -> 08:19 AM) Looking at quality starts for a starting pitcher is like looking singularily at home runs or batting average for a hitter. Yes, it will tell part of the story, but the rest of the story says he hasn't done a hell of a lot. He has 15 quality starts in 21 games started. To me, that says he's essentially pitched poorly enough to lose 6 games, and who knows what he's done in the other 15 - maybe pitched just well enough to lose. The Sox pitching staff is not going to get considerably worse if they trade John Danks. I agree. The time to deal him is now.
  24. QUOTE (LDF @ Jul 28, 2014 -> 07:28 PM) if the yanks are only talking about minors, I would be real ok with JR Murphy or even Pete O'Brien. I think it would take a crap load to get Sanchez. JR Murphy seems to fit Hahn's desired age group (ages 23-27) and he is also MLB ready. With Rodon likely entering the rotation next year and given this chance to shed that salary- this would be the perfect trade for the Sox.
