QUOTE (flavum @ May 5, 2014 -> 09:19 PM) Sox will lose this game. Dunn should have scored...twice. I was shocked that he didn't run home on that wild pitch. Seriously, in a pitchers duel?! What a chooch.

If we traded for a stud RH starter this year who would it be?
GreatScott82 replied to Jerksticks's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Unfortunately, the Sox still do not have the luxury of trading minor league talent for a veteran starting pitcher. Hahn's mission over the next 2 to 3 years is to quickly build up a strong young core of players and make the system deep. This is priority #1. I truly believe that Hahn will begin selling some of the veteran players as early as June this season. I expect guys like Beckham and Dunn dealt sooner than later. We obviously won't get much for Dunn, but I'm hoping Hahn will find a desperate team for Beckham. Hahn may want to consider selling high on Viciedo as well. I expect Hahn to be aggressive this Summer, but not in regards to adding veterans, but to simply add more youth. -
QUOTE (Rowand44 @ Apr 26, 2014 -> 01:24 PM) Why does WCIU even exist? For us non-cable folk, WCIU is a wonderful thing

What if the Sox actually signed Tanaka? I still think about that every once in awhile.
-
I'm ready to move on with life without Beckham. Semein should be our everyday 2b- there's no doubt. I guess send Semien down for a few months until we trade Gordon? Will Gordon actually have any trade value ? Who shall be in the market for a 2b this deadline?

Any chance that Hansen will be the dude they bring up? -

It looks like 2014 will be a year filled with injuries. Beckham, Garcia, Eaton and now Sale. Me no likey. -
Rienzo to Chi, Hanson to AAA, Paulino to DL?
GreatScott82 replied to ILMOU's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Well... Something needed to be done. Good luck Rienzo! -
QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Apr 19, 2014 -> 08:36 AM) If we use Axelrod all season, we actually might end up with the lowest attendance in MLB this year. That's not going to happen. Sacrificial long man, fine, whatever. Not a part of the rotation equation. Bring up Reinzo and hope for the best. We are pretty thin in options at this point of the season.

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Apr 19, 2014 -> 07:36 AM) It boggled my mind then, it boggles my mind now, how anyone could have thought this guy was going to be effective was beyond me. He made 5 minor league starts last year and they were very similar to his results this season. He was still coming off a serious injury and was going to be rusty any way you slice it. Finally, he wasn't very good to begin with. I agree... I thought this whole Paulino experiment was a bit odd to me. Perhaps Coop thought he could have pulled off a miracle? Regardless, theirs scouts really botched this one. Time to move on.
-
Paulino might just be one of the worst starting pitchers I have seen pitch wearing a Sox uniform. The dude is BAD. It's time for the Sox to cut their losses. They took a chance on the guy, and it didn't pay off. I'm not blaming the Sox for taking a chance. I mean, it did work when they took risks on guys like Loaiza and even Humber for a short while. But if the guy can't produce, we MUST look into the next option. It appears as if Axelrod or Rienzo will be heading the list for the next guy up. Do the right thing, Hahn- cut Paulino now.
-
I'm not impressed with what I've seen from Paulino. I wonder how long it will be before he is demoted and Hanson is promoted? It is still very early but I really do not see Paulino in the longterm plans. Our pen has been very bad as well. I'll be alittle more patient with them before I judge. The offense has really surprised me thus far. The future of this lineup is very bright. Especially once Avi Garcia returns in 2015.

Avisail Garcia is out for the rest of 2014
GreatScott82 replied to Buehrle>Wood's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Apr 10, 2014 -> 05:43 PM) Welcome to why rebuilding is dangerous. It doesn't take much to push it back a year... and another year... and another year. Awful for Garcia. He just seemed like he was coming together at the plate, but I agree that watching him in RF, you could almost see an injury coming. He looked like he already hurt himself on the same sort of dive over opening weekend. His future should be as a LF. That position is much easier to handle. -

I'm beyond sad right now. This was supposed to be a year of growth for him. Here's to a speedy recovery!! He is such an important piece to our future. Looking at the positives here: 1) more playing time for both Viciedo and De Aza which will hopefully increase trade value. 2) gives the other Danks a chance to impress as the 4th OF, perhaps a chance of earning that same role for 2015. 3) this was a designed year for growth anyway, it will not hurt to earn another top 10 pick in 2015. At least we still have Eaton and Abreu to watch. Both of these dudes look legit. I can't wait to see Davidson later this year too! -

Probably a good thing to give Garcia a day off. The dude is off to a rough start. Happy to see Viciedo in there. He needs more ABs. -
Watching Players The White Sox Traded Away
GreatScott82 replied to Feeky Magee's topic in Pale Hose Talk
I'll cheer for Buerhle every time. He will return to finish his career with us. I just have a hunch I'll cheer for AJ and Uribe as well. Pretty much anybody who was part of I the '05 squad. And that does include BMac It will be good for the organization if Reed and Santiago succeed because most GMs can recognize that from afar. I also hope Eaton and Davidson rock the house for us!!!! -

Viciedo is learning patience during the early part of the season. -
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Mar 31, 2014 -> 09:31 AM) I'd rather see both sides agree to void the deal, and the Sox find a new sponsor who pays assloads more to put their name on the walls. That is another possibility. Reiny did it right the first time, using the $68 million on ballpark improvements in 2004. If he can get $128 million for another name, just imagine the possibilities for the stadium and fan experiences around the park! BTW, I love our ballpark and it has the best food out of any park in the country! Even Cub fans will admit to that

The Official 2014 Opening Day thread

2014! A season for growth and new possibilities. Excited to see Eaton, Abreu, and Garcia in a Sox uniform for an entire season. Go Sox! -
Sprint already bought out the remaining US Cellular customers and cell towers in Chicago. It's only a matter of time before Sprint buys out US Cellular Field from US Cellular to change the naming rights to "Sprint Field". Honestly, I can care less about the name. If they can acquire even more money for ballpark improvements, I'm ALL for it!

QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Mar 29, 2014 -> 09:55 AM) The fact that there are 9 pages about the Sox hypothetically signing a pitcher that they are never going to sign is funny to me. I created a thread to spark some conversation about the future of our rotation. Will we get Max? I don't know.. But it's fun to discuss the possibilities with some of my favorite Sox posters. We are not always going to agree with things, but I sure do value your constructive thoughts. Is it funny? I don't think so. And I also wouldn't say "the sox will NEVER" sign a certain player. For instance, if Max has an average season- his cost will come way down and the Sox can come in low with an offer. I cannot wait to start watching some meaningful baseball. Especially with our young pitching.

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Mar 28, 2014 -> 11:38 PM) Did you read the article? His agent is targeting Greinke, which is $147 million. He's going to be the second pitcher on the market after Scherzer, so he's arguably going to get at least $125-130 million and 5 years, so you're already in Tanaka territory there. Hahn/JR were willing to take that risk on Tanaka in his mid 20's. They won't do it with Shields in his mid 30's for roughly the same price. That is why I suggested Scherzer for that #2 starter spot. He will only be 29 at the beginning of next year. If that is 'too old' for this team, then they better trade Danks soon. He will be 30 next year- ANCIENT! I know the Sox are trying to acquire guys in their early to mid-20s, but if they can simultaneously bring a guy in within his prime, a guy who is a Cy Young Award type pitcher, a guy who will be 29 next year- how can they not explore that? If money's the reason, I can respect that- but to say he will be too old for this new core is pretty silly. I believe you can have 1 or 2 veteran starting pitchers in a rotation of a younger team, as long as your 8 position players are mid to early 20s, this team will have sustainable success.

QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Mar 28, 2014 -> 03:15 PM) I like this and it makes sense. Points to wite. I would love Yovani G. However, he has a club option that the Brew Crew will likely pick up.
-
QUOTE (Marty34 @ Mar 27, 2014 -> 08:56 PM) Adding a top-of-the-rotation starter trumps any need in my opinion. Zero interest in Scherzer though. Agreed with the first part. I disagree with your last part. If the price is right, I say go after him hard. Hopefully he changes agents to increase those chances.
