Brandon League Traded to the Dodgers
- Dempster to Rangers
QUOTE (sunofgold @ Jul 30, 2012 -> 02:20 PM) It would get easier for KW if Dodgers find a different starter. Then where else would dempster go? very true... it would be sweet if LA can land Cliff Lee somehow, keeping him out of the AL and putting the Cubs an a desperate situation.- Dempster to Rangers
QUOTE (JoeCoolMan24 @ Jul 30, 2012 -> 01:56 PM) Ken Rosenthal @Ken_Rosenthal Source: #Cubs "trying to bend over backwards" to get Dempster to #Dodgers, his desired team. Talks continue. Oh man, Demspter may have REALLY screwed them over. Maybe the Sox should try to get back into talks with the Cubs. At this point I am sure they can give them a better deal than LA? Humber and a low-A pitcher. Get it done!- What will Kenny do ?
QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jul 30, 2012 -> 12:17 PM) I have a sneaking suspicion that Liriano somehow ends up back here again next year. We'll see. He probably has a better chance than Peavy and Floyd since he would be one of those "project" type of pitchers that Coop loves to take a chance on.- What will Kenny do ?
QUOTE (RockRaines @ Jul 30, 2012 -> 12:10 PM) Yeah, I'm fairly positive Youk is already penciled in for next season. I sure hope so. If anything maybe they can restructure his deal. I also want them to bring back A.J. I am not worried so much about Peavy, Floyd or even Liriano. I know KW has a knack of bringing in quality pitching.- What will Kenny do ?
QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jul 30, 2012 -> 11:53 AM) I think KW is looking for a reliever and back up infielder. Its fun to speculate on huge pieces and if the deal was right, I'm sure he'd pull the trigger, but I'm thinking small pieces is what he's trying to accomplish. I think Lee is owed about $80 million the next 3 years. I think there's a better chance KW brings back Ozzie than Cliff Lee. Agreed. So far KW has brought in players that have expirering contracts or options. KW has done a lot with very little financial flexibility. There is no way he can bring in that contract right now. They still need to figure out what to do with these guys this offseason too: Floyd ($9.5 million option) Peavy ($4 million buy out) Pierzynski (Free Agent) Youkilis ($13 million option) Myers ($3 million buy out)- What will Kenny do ?
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 30, 2012 -> 07:35 AM) We just need to quit thinking like this, and be pleasantly surprised if it happens. Yep. I am pretty much convinced Danks is done for the year. Call me crazy but I would much rather have KW keep Gavin Floyd because of that injury. Go with the 6-man rotation the rest of the way to preserve Sale and Peavy.- Sox want Grienke "badly"
Doesn't Shields have a 4.5 ERA. What am I missing here? The point of all this trade speculation is to acquire a "top of the rotation guy" Not another #4 or #5.- Sox want Grienke "badly"
QUOTE (SOXOBAMA @ Jul 27, 2012 -> 10:49 AM) Its Greinke or nobody. We are going all out for Greinke, the Brewers want Reed. According to Heyman, he was on WSCR Makes sense, the Brewers have major bullpen issues right now. Reed can fill a HUGE void for them longterm. I like Reed but if it means bringing a top notch starter to this team- DO IT!- Sox want Grienke "badly"
QUOTE (Real @ Jul 27, 2012 -> 07:12 AM) I hope we don't get Greinke because we're going to have to give up Quintana, I'd bet money on it. I doubt they even want Floyd (who would, especially coming off an injury?) No thanks! I am sure Milwaukee would actually enjoy having Floyd for the rest of this year and next year for 9.5 million. I can see Floyd thriving in the NL. Now the question is, what do the Sox add to that package to sweeten the deal? I was talking to my friends who are Brewer fans and they are DESPERATE for a new SS. Beckham may be exactly what they are looking for....- Sox want Grienke "badly"
Apparently the Braves are also going hard after him right now... things are getting interesting.- Sox want Grienke "badly"
QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Jul 26, 2012 -> 08:57 AM) Well, in that case, I hope we don't trade one of those outfielders. Actually, I'm not sure I want to see Reed traded at all. Floyd + Reed is probably the right value, but, I don't feel real good about any of the rest of the bullpen working as a closer. Call me crazy but I like Myers mound presence and think he can do the job. At the same time if he IS the new closer his option for next year will kick in. Another option is to go out and bring a Huston Street in a separate deal. That guy is solid!- Sox want Grienke "badly"
QUOTE (bucket-of-suck @ Jul 26, 2012 -> 08:50 AM) FWIW: KW has had an offer out there for a while now for Greinke. It's substantial and includes key mlb roster talent. Sox are very determined to land him. Can you provide a link? How do you know this?- What will Kenny do ?
Trade Floyd for prospects Flip prospects plus our prospects for a top of the line starter ( Grienke, Garza, Shields, Johnson etc...)- Sox want Grienke "badly"
If Grienke has issues pitching at US Cellular, than schedule it the rest of the way where he pitches most of his starts away. We did something similar to this for Freddy Garcia back in '05 and '06 as he struggled a bit at home. I would NOT worry about that statement.- AND THATS A WHITE SOX PIRANHA CLEAN SWEEP!!!
After a very tough road trip, this was exactly what the doctor ordered! Way to step it up guys!- Beckham - could this be it for him?
QUOTE (Greg Hibbard @ Jul 25, 2012 -> 11:29 AM) The first caller in the postgame last night brought up this point, and said that he would actually also drop Dunn to 6 and move Youk to 3 (which was interesting), but Rongey astutely retorted that Youk's OBA is too much to give up in front of Dunn/Konerko's bomb capabilities. Still, I'd rather have a more balanced lineup than 6 guys who we're hoping some combination of can score on a 3 run bomb by one of em, and then a couple guys down below who either make singles or outs. Beckham really did seem to work in the 2 hole. Can anyone get Beckham's stats from hitting in the 2-hole? Here is what I would do: De Aza Beckham (back to comfortable role) Youk (still would have his higher OBP above Dunn and Konerko) Dunn Konerko Rios AJ Tank Ramirez- Marlins Firesale
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 25, 2012 -> 07:54 AM) If we could get some cash for the last year of that deal, that would be an ideal move. Mark already knows the AL, and the Sox. I dunno... his contract is pretty steep. As much as I LOVE Buehrle, look at his contract: 2012- 6 million 2013- 11 million 2014- 18 million 2015- 19 million With that money, I would like to go get somebody younger such as Grienke. Don't get me wrong, Buehrle is my alltime favorite White Sox, but im thinking about the future of this team and we already have 3 solid lefties in Sale, Q and Danks.- Sox eager to move Floyd, other notes
QUOTE (JoeCoolMan24 @ Jul 24, 2012 -> 01:59 PM) If the Brewers want Quintana as the centerpiece of a deal, I'll drive him to Milwaukee myself. That guy isn't going to last. His value can only go down from here. I disagree. This guy has 3 excellent pitches and reminds of me of a younger Johan Santana. You keep Q! You do not want to repeat another Gio Gonzalez or Dan Hudson situation.- Sox eager to move Floyd, other notes
QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 24, 2012 -> 01:54 PM) FWIW, if they do want to acquire Greinke, I'd much rather it be using Floyd and then someone like Mitchell as opposed to using Viciedo/Quintana. Agreed.- Sox eager to move Floyd, other notes
QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Jul 24, 2012 -> 01:24 PM) Floyd is one of the better pieces of trade bait out there. That option is pretty solid and affordable for what he is. I hate giving up too much for Zack. He's going to be gone at the end of the year (as I highly doubt the Sox would sign him) and you end up turning an asset like Floyd (+ other good prospects) into a rental. With the mindset of them NOT taking his option next year, I woudn't mind them dealing Floyd in attempt to bolster a deal for Grienke. Yes, you may risk losing him in free agency next year, BUT having Grienke in the rotation along with Peavy, Quintana, and Sale THIS YEAR could be scary for any opposing team the rest of the way. Oh and Danks will likely come back at the end of August too. I will worry about the future during the offseason- Trade Deadline Top Pitching Targets
QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Jul 24, 2012 -> 07:36 AM) Im not saying we should think he is the best ever, but it is not hard to understand why organizations want a pitcher like Greinke. Everyone wants to be the organization he is with when he puts it all together again With Dempster off the books (most likely) it seems as if KW will go hard after Grienke now. What type of package will it take to get the guy is the question? (Mitchell, Reed, Santiago, Humber or Floyd?) Just throwing names out there. Not sure what Milwaukee would want from our farm. I'm sure Floyd would interest them because they can take his option for next year.- IS THIS THE END OF OUR FAITHFUL HEROES?
QUOTE (Wedge @ Jul 23, 2012 -> 09:36 AM) but will we be anything but a 500 team the rest of the way? I doubt it. They went into the ASB pretty hot. They came out cold. That does not mean they cant catch fire again. Once the bats get going we are in great shape. Konerko needs to get going again and the other guys need to step up as well. I'm talking about guys like Beckham, Ramirez and Viciedo. And yes this team will be better than .500 the rest of the way. I am predicting 90 games wins this thing. Can the Sox go 40-27 the rest of the way? I think so.- IS THIS THE END OF OUR FAITHFUL HEROES?
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 23, 2012 -> 08:42 AM) especially since they have a sweep against the best team in baseball, in the Texas Rangers. And they have already had one 9 game winning streak. Who is to say this team cant get hot again soon? The bats have come out cold since the ASB but once they can get going again and KW can swing a deal for a SP this team can DEFINITLEY make a run at this thing. The Tigers are hot right now, but they haven't won anything yet!- IS THIS THE END OF OUR FAITHFUL HEROES?
QUOTE (Real @ Jul 23, 2012 -> 04:51 AM) even if the sox make the post-season, they're one-and-done. detroit is hot right now. yankees or rangers will be in the world series IMO Well I guess we should just quit now huh? This team can suprise a lot of people if they can get in the playoffs. Yes, they have had a rough patch as of late but we are in the thick of things and have a long way to go yet. The Tigers had a rough patch of going 3-7 at the end of May into June just like we are having now. It happens to most teams throughout the year. A very nice 3 game homestand vs the Twins can turn this thing back around. Oh and if KW brings us another starting pitcher- i like our chances even more. Call me crazy, but I still believe we will win the AL central! - Dempster to Rangers
