^^ what he said. ^^ Walker is the real deal. Saved the season after the BYU debacle. He def. will do better as he grows, but his vision and speed are very good. He could be another great number 3 at ND.

To say that you've got nothing to lose by picking the underdog, then why does anyone ever pick the underdog? It doesn't really matter, I don't care if anyone thinks I'm a genius for picking ND to win (I'm biased as it is and know my team way too well). As for rooting for a powerhouse, if you haven't noticed the last huge ND season was '93 in which they lost the National Championship to a team they beat. So to say being an ND fan is "easy" is rather suspect. We don't recruit as well as we used to and pretty much only considered an elite program these days because of our name. Either way, yesterday's game was the 2nd greatest game I've ever been to (2002 Michigan/ND was better IMO) and it was a damn great day. I've got plenty of pictures of myself on the field after the game and it's stuff like this that makes going to a school with a huge football following that much sweeter. Eh it doesn't matter, great weekend to be an Irish fan. I think I'll just soak this one up.

Just so I can be on record before the game, the Irish will beat Michigan today. Book it. Michigan 17 Irish 20. Go Irish! -
For those of you interested in the ilovebees.com business and the guerilla marketing going on with this game (not that it needs it) check out the article at this url: http://www.gamespot.com/news/2004/07/27/news_6103575.html

I'm pretty crazy about Halo after learning how great it was at school. Actually one of the main reasons I bought an XBOX, that and I like NCAA Football on XBOX better than NCAA on PS2. But yea, Halo 2 will be the end of my GPA and the rest of the guys I live with. It's gonna be nuts. By the way, has anyone noticed that at the end of the tralier the website listed under the XBOX logo is not www.microsoft.com but rather www.ilovebees.com. I checked this out and they made this bees site look like it got hacked and there's this like MODULAR crash window or whatever that comes up and there's a clock that ends on the 24th of August. All very cryptic and very Blair Witch-esque, but great marketing nonetheless. Look up the story about the website on some game sites, it's a pretty interesting read.

I bet it's mostly because of bums like me who are just too lazy to login sometimes. EDIT: What's even funnier is that I thought this topic was "What's with all the QUESTS?" And I'm like, wtf? Quests? People post crazy stuff late. But alas, it was a rather ordinary topic.

I'm in....till the end my friends. Our Starting Pitching will keep us in games. Book it.

Did the Cubs make a good trade for their CURRENT SITUATION? Hell yes. However, the reason they were able to give up "s***" is because they've been building their farm system for years. Beltran and Harris are high minors tradeable talent (something we don't have anymore since dealing for Garcia and Everett). This type of talent is key to making the big acquisitions. Give our system a few years and it'll be in the same situation (Sweeney, Anderson, BMac, etc.) however I wouldn't want to trade those guys for someone who we'd have for only 3 months. I doubt you'll be talking about how great the Cubs trade is if they don't make the playoffs and not sign Nomar. Then it turns into dumping a decent amount of talent for a failed Wild Card cause. Good gamble in my mind, but far from "OMG THE CUBS ARE SO SMART!"

I really hope this isn't an everyday thing with Sportscenter. Let them get it out of there system, and hopefully it will come to an end. If I wanted to be watching crappy bands perform in some studio in time square, I'd watch TRL. I want sports coverage, dammit.

It was more looking at the grip of the pitch while runners were on base that happened to McDowell. Ask Robbie Alomar
-
Yoda, Contreras has better stuff than E-Lo. It's that simple. The numbers don't always tell the whole story when one guy throws in the 90's and the other barely throws 90. Also, the Sox were NOT going to re-sign E-Lo for the money he wanted. Financally, it doesn't make much sense. With Contreras you get more stability in your rotation for the next two years. Buerhle, Garcia, Contreras, Garland is a pretty damn good top 4. This is a great deal in my mind.

I disagree, Nomar made a living banging off the monster. He's going to a league where he hasn't faced much of the pitching and his splits away from Fenway are awful. I doubt he hits .300 the rest of the way, but that's just me. His power #'s may increase in Wrigley, and he provides protection in the Cubs lineup, however he's still in the same mold as most of the Cub hitters (not patient, first pitch swingers).

Full Nomar Deal: Cubs get: Nomar BoSox get: Cabrera, Mien-consonants Expos get: A-Gon, Francis Beltran, Brendan Harris Twins: Justin Jones

Dave roberts to the Red sox for henry stanley. Just reported on ESPNnews

qwerty, just because you're desperate doesn't mean you should overpay. Seriously, how much better will Nomar be for the cubs than gonzalez was? The replacement value can't be all that much of a difference. There's no way they re-sign Nomar, it's been known that he wants to play on the west coast. So why the hell do you rent him for 3 months by dumping a great pitcher, a servicable shortstop, and two prospects? It just doesn't make sense.
-
I'm afraid Derek Lowe might pitch really well with that great defense behind him. I'd rather them get benson personally.
-
is it just me or did the cubs get REAMED in this deal? I don't know if the prospects included were cubs prospects but to only get Nomar for Clement (who's damn good), A-Gon, and prospects like Beltran you gotta be crazy.
-
Oh no, not the Biscuits! Beat up on anyone but the Biscuits! I love the biscuits' mascot btw, I really considered purchasing their blue hat...it's hilarious and I suggest checking it out. It's a biscuit with his mouth open and a butter tongue on a blue hat with a yellow bill. Hilarious stuff. But in all seriousness, I don't know what I'd do without these threads. Not only have they increased my knowledge of minor league baseball, they have allowed me to know more about the Sox as a whole. Knowing more about the Sox is always a good thing in my book. So a big thanks goes out to all you guys who keep this up (Danman, DBAH0, jason, dasox, rex, cerb, etc.) Also in captain of the obvious news, how about that Brian Anderson? 3 for 6 tonight and pushing his AVG up to a paltry .329. With an outstanding finish and/or an outstanding spring he could have an outside shot to make the club next year. I doubt it, but good money bets on the fact that he'll be with the Knights to start next year. To me, Anderson was probably why Reed was expendable, not Borchard. Oh yea and I guess that Sweeney guy had a say in that as well . So anyways back to Anderson, who's seen this guy in person (Rex, I'm looking in your general direction)? I'd really like to get some sort of input on how this guy looks on the field and what type of player he really is. Can you tell that Anderson is one of my favorite Sox prospects? Any sort of info/feedback would be highly appreciated. Alright, sorry for the long post in the game thread but I just wanted to let you guys know you all do a bang up job here. Oh yea and to say that Anderson rocks the party.

Wow, this is unbelievable. I'm not too optimistic on our chance to make the playoffs now, but to hear this could be determential to the rest of Mags' career is sad. You hate to see great players like him fall to serious injuries, and we have had our share this year with Giambi's unknown disease and Griffey getting hurt yet again.
-
I was out of town this weekend and haven't heard much about Ordonez's condition. Can anyone update me on his status? Is his injury all that serious?

Sizemore up now...this kid is going to be something in the future.

Listen, like I said I bet you've heard the bands we're talking about...you obviously know your music. I'm not denying this. My only problem was with the fact that you crapped on everyone else's opinons by "saving" this thread. As for the tangential remarks about selling out and such? Well that just me being bitter at stereotypical elitists, which I jumped to including you in. I don't think you are, I was just preparing myself for a common repsonse when someone bashes mainstream. Also I'm not saying the ENTIRE point of music is to sell out and make money. However, I'm for damn sure that making money plays a big role at the end of the day. It's just bad business otherwise. In the end, it's about toeing the fine line between creativity/innovation and being "successful" in the sense of being wealthy. Like I said in the post before, I don't want to start a huge argument here; I'd rather this be a thread about music people like and their ability to share their opinions on bands to the rest of the community here. To me, that doesn't include crapping on other people's tastes.
-
Whatever the motive was the message was still clear: your bands are s***. Like I said earlier, maybe he just doesn't like the music and has heard a lot of it before (which is probably true). My beef is that this is an opinion thread where people post what they LIKE. Frankly, I find it uneccesary to bash the rest of the thread. Granted, I may have jumped to conclusions with the whole popular music diatribe, however like I said elitism in music is something I don't really like and causes me to get a bit jumpy. That's all, I'm not turning this thread into a flame war...I'd rather it just be about who likes what.
-
To me, it's this type of elitist bulls*** that pisses me off. Just because YOU don't like a certain band doesn't mean they're s***. I listen to all types of music and if I like it, I like it. I don't check to see if they're too mainstream or on MTV or whatever. I bet you use the term "sell out" a ton, don't you? Face it, the goal of at least 90% of bands out there is to sell out. They want to be popular, they want a huge following; I doubt they want to have to do something other than the thing they love (playing music) to support themselves. Granted, there are right and wrong ways to sell out (see Aerosmith for the wrong ways) but to turn on a band or to completely write them off because they're "too popular" or "selling out" is narrow-minded. Of course you may have heard all of these bands extensively and just do not like their stuff, however to come on here and undermine everyone else's opinion is just plain stupid. Leave that elitist "my band is better than yours" attitude at the door. Sorry to flip out, but this is a subject that strikes a chord with me.
