Honestly I think we should keep most of this team together without any major trades....maybe a few minor ones like Joe Randa or something like that but nothing big. My reasoning is because i predict a big f/a this offseason. In my opinion Anderson and B-Mac will both be on our major league team this next season so. Of our starters I see Contreras getting traded, than since rumors have it we wont resign Frank, Dye would be our DH. Also Everett, Konerko, Timo, Davis, as said b4 Frank, and Shingo all come off the books. Thats a lot of money and our only big hole to fill would be 1B and a course id hope we look into resigning Garland and Pieryznski. But with all that we would have 32.5 million to work with... now im not sure but i heard somewhere we might have to pay Frank 3 so thats down to 29.5 but still a lot. Not to mention if attendence is up JR might up the payroll.

QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ May 28, 2005 -> 02:03 AM) There are some obvious concerns considering he's been out of competitive baseball for a year now and If I drafted him I'd want to be darn positive that he'd sign. I'm assuming people will have some recolection of what he was asking in his negotiations with the O's (I still don't get what had happened, but somehow those negotiations ended a while ago and i forget exactly why but I think it dealt with him and school and he went back for a class or something). I did read somewhere that Baltimore totally botched negotiations and that Towsend is expected to be a relatively easy sign who will go for slot money. Im pretty sure that he tried to cheat the system by going to school and signing with the O's and because of that instead he didnt get to go to school or sign?

I really dont know what happened to him, he used to be so good for us and he even started the 1 year pretty well and all of a sudden he becomes horrible like mid-season.... -
GAME THREAD 5-27-2005 SOX VS RANGERS

QUOTE(fathom @ May 27, 2005 -> 10:34 PM) Chris Young throws in the low 90s. He's not an overpowering pitcher, despite his size. Oh i know, but Chris Young relies heavily on his fastball... he throws is a lot, because of that hitters usually foul it off a lot and he gets high pitch counts fast... so he should only go 5-6 innings vs us and their bullpen is shaky. -

GoodAsGould replied to NUKE_CLEVELAND's topic in 2005 Season in Review
the lineup today is messed up.... although Chris Young is a big fastball guy and we seemed to hit them well.... Bonderman, Harden, and Cabrera come to mind...when we faced Prior and Colon their fastballs werent as fast as usual. -
can you buy seperate magazines... and if so where are they at?

Did Ozzie call the pitch to McPherson?
GoodAsGould replied to DonkeyKongerko's topic in Pale Hose Talk
What the problem is our guys need to stop hitting grounders to the damn SS when we have guys at 3B with less than 2 outs... we seemed to always hit sac flies early in the year now always grounders to the SS. -
QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ May 27, 2005 -> 06:22 PM) I'm not too concerned with this. I feel its stupid taking a Boras client unless your willing to take the chance of not having that pick sign. Considering the Sox don't havea another pick till 97th overall there is no way I want to see them take someone at 15th thats a Boras client and have him hold out the rest of the year (hell you know its bad when the Angels who spent huge bucks on the draft won't come to terms with Weaver) and than end up having just a 97th pick an on in the draft (really puts your team in a crunch). However, that being said they could look at Wade Townsend who appears to have a decdent shot of being there. Whoever suggested Bogulsvic in one of them (Tulane's ace pitcher) I'd freaking love it if we got him, but with Boras having control of most of the top college pitching prospects, odds are guys like Bogul and Romero will end up going higher. Well the angels have told borass that 6 million no more and boras originally wanted 12 million for Weaver.... now angles still saying 6 million and boras has lowered it all the way down to 6.75 supposedly but angels refusing to spend the extra 750,000... I think we on the otherhand would of got it done.

GAME THREAD 5-27-2005 SOX VS RANGERS
GoodAsGould replied to NUKE_CLEVELAND's topic in 2005 Season in Review
just so you all know... the rangers 6 game win streak consist of the astro's... 3-22 on the road and the royals who are just as bad... b4 that they faced us and lost 2 of their 3.... so dont look too much into their win streak, but they are still a good team regardless. -
Heath Phillips another 6 innings only 1 ER...

What exactly is Timo Perez' purpose on this team?

QUOTE(qwerty @ May 27, 2005 -> 05:29 AM) 2.06 factor is piss poor. Dye's range factor is so bad it's not even funny. Jones career range factor is 2.40, at this point he is .38 point below that. I doubt it stays that way all year long. The higher the range factor the better. Id say 2.06 is around average... and yeah Dye is piss poor and he was apposed to be good with the glove not to mention all the extra errors he has committed. Remember 2.06 is being done while not playing everyday so that can affect a player too... -

QUOTE(fathom @ May 27, 2005 -> 05:12 AM) He has absolutely no range at all! I've never seen a player have more balls drop right at his feet than Timo. last year Timo Perez range factor in right field was 2.06 and he did that with no errors... to compare this year Jermaine Dye's range is 1.67 with .942 fielding percentage.... This year Jaque Jones has a 2.02 range factor and he is considered a good defensive OF.... Im not saying Timo is a gold glover but he is pretty much an average fielder and he has that really good arm which helps his case...so rip on him all you want but nothing really to say about his hitting -
I think walker needs to be fired this off-season... and we have to retool our lineup Next year only guys i want in the lineup from this year is Scott Podsenick, Tadahito Iguchi, Aaron Rowand, Frank Thomas(depends i guess), and AJ Pierynzski...... I know Uribe will be there too but thats not neccesarily a good thing.... Pauly, Everett, Dye, Crede can pack their bags

QUOTE(fathom @ May 27, 2005 -> 05:08 AM) Eric Valent is a much better hitter than Timo has ever been. He's a very good hitter against righty pitching. The other guys you listed are bad......but is Timo really better than them? I bet most of them can actually play defense. When has timo ever proven to be a bad defender... not to mention the cannon of an arm he has... just because people dont like the way he catches the ball doesnt make him bad in the field..... Its ok to rip on Timo because he sucks but ripping on his defense is just kind of stupid.... -

Greg Dobbs, Eric Valent, Eric Bruntlett, Bobby Higginson, Mark DeRosa....Timo Perez can be arguably better than all of those clowns. -

Everett has been the worse, he looks totally over-matched at the plate its not even funny.... at times it seems like Timo Perez looks better at the plate at least when Everett is batting from the left side. -

QUOTE(redandwhite @ May 27, 2005 -> 04:46 AM) I would have to look through all the 25th players on each teams roster, but I can't imagine anyone being worse than him. He could very well be the worst player in the Major Leagues. He isnt the worse player in the majors... but he isnt good thats for one... I think he is mostly there because he can talk to everyone... he knows japanese, same hometown as Uribe, and can speak english he is there for his club house presence and as Ozzie's personal bitz. -
Did Ozzie call the pitch to McPherson?
GoodAsGould replied to DonkeyKongerko's topic in Pale Hose Talk
It seems to me that Contreras always starts to get weak come the 7th inning, thats when he gives up his runs all the time it seems... -
any chance he makes the major league team next year? He seems like he is good enough to be effective already.

Idonno but Jack McDowell even said only throw your best pitch here dont give him anything to hit and than what does Contreras do... gives him a HR ball.... pisses me off the most when it has beene evident the whole series McPherson cant hit anything slow... he is a fastball hitter and we gave it to him. -

another beautiful game by jermaine dye on the field and hitting I cant believe i was happy when we signed that guy, I was wrong in thinking he was better than Borchard because he isnt. :banghead -
