Sox Sign Jon Jay; 1 year/$4 mil, Charlie Tilson DFA'd
iWiN4PreP replied to soxfan49's topic in Pale Hose Talk
This guy fucking sucks. It was ridiculous when we went out and got Yonder to recruit Manny. That's some whack ass shit. Now it's just downright clown-style. Jon Jay SUCKS. Sure, if it gets us Manny than whatever. But if this, in any way, signals that we are out on Harper than fuck the Sox. Holy fucking christ does Jon Jay suck. 34 year old that batted 235 last year ew. -

Wow what an awful promo between Brock and Braun. That was horrid. Brock vs. Braun was a match I could have saw main event WM a year ago or something... but after Braun has lost and got owned by Brock so many times now, I couldn't care less. -

First Raw of 2019 opens with Rollins and Lashley fighting backstage in a massive brawl. Overall it was pretty weak looking with no weapons used just the soft punches. They really need to add weapons in that situation. However, i'll commend them for opening up with something different. Nice job. John Cena speaks and Drew McYintyre interupts, good promo by Cena, decent promo by Drew. Lashley interupts them. My problem with this is that Lashley and Drew are so boring. I'm a fan of Drew, but man, they need to book him in a very particular dominating way and his latest month with Finn and Dolph getting over him hasn't helped Drew. This leads to a 6 man tag match between Cena/Rollins/Finn vs Drew/Lashley/Ambrose Holy shit that's a bad 6-man set up. This type of shit kills the 'heat' between Ambrose/Rollins. IT makes all 6 of the individuals look bad. I don't know why they think these 6 man matches are good for the show. This is the same shit they've done for the past 5 years.. it's boring produces little to no real canon (storyline) material. -
Giving him attention is likely what he wants, but damn that dude deserves to be toasted. The final nail in the coffin would be the White Sox signing Machado.
-
Not 100% sure but his allegiance to SS last year/this off season was likely just to boost his $$$$ during contract negotiations. Methinks he has no real problem playing his much better position of 3b.

Big Raw tonight.. WE got Hulk and Flair coming down to pay respects to Mean Gene. We got the return of Cena to Raw and Lesnar. Tag team championship match. And a moment of bliss. I'm expecting garbage, will see what happens! -
Shane... Dan Clarke... Barstool. If there's one thing we are learning it's that attention seekers know no bounds.

it could be a 100 player deal as long as they take our trash. -
Well guys, this is the week. Dan Clarke mentioned Monday January 7th as the day that the Yankees had a press conference for Machado. Personally, I think Machado signs this week. I think he signs with us (White Sox). LEt's GO

J.D Davis is going from HOU to the Mets. I would have liked to buy low on him. -
Yup. As of now it is bull-shit. All it takes is one good troll to start this up. We need facts here! Big if true tho

To be fair, it is Sunday... from what I recall, that's the quiet day.

Would love a graph of the White Sox Revenue and player payroll.

If your argument is that the White Sox Front office is cheap and needs to up their fucking game, then I generally agree with you with the one caveat being if we get one or both of Harper/Machado. But your argument in this thread is asinine -- suggesting to throw money at players like it means nothing. If we don't get one of Harper/Machado and go into the season with such a small limited payroll -- I'm with you, Fuck this team, but be patient before we start throwing all of our money at the Zach Britton's and Michael Brantley's of the world. -

Spoken like someone with absolutely no understanding of reality. You go a head and over spend on Zach Britton or Ottavino. Enjoy! -

Eventually the money runs out. If you spend it all on over priced players you lose. As fans, there is truth in what you are saying, but we also need to remain logical about the process and realize there is limits. Can't just root to sign everyone we want at astronomical prices. -

Per Ken Rosenthal: Zach Britton going to the Yankees, or at least it is very close https://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2019/01/yankees-zach-britton-progressing-toward-agreement.html -
For the White Sox, Machado will give this rebuild a shot that it so desperately needs as a great defensive third basemen who can be the middle of the order bat we've so long needed. We are basically desperate for Machado while the Yanks could win a world series this year with their current team.

I've been saying it all a long that the Yankees don't make a lot of sense for Machado. The only thing that the media used was that Machado 'likes' the Yankees, that's bullshit and doesn't matter in the real world of baseball money. Objectively speaking, Yankees have no reason to spend the 300 mil on Machado when they have such a dominating offensive juggernaught and young kids that are coming up to beast (Andujar / Torres). They already have a monster contract in Stanton. They can fill out their roster significantly easier with money spent on pitching all while keeping their pocket books open to the future. This means that, sure, for 200 mill or a shorter deal they'd love to grab him, they have money for it, but there's no way they'll spend huge $$ like the White Sox or Phillies should for Machado.

Would have no problem trading him if he was 0.5 seasons away from free agency and I could get a huge haul. Of course, permitting that I'd be out of the playoff shot at that time. I'd get a haul.
-
If I were the Angels and my team was struggling prior to Trout's Free agency, I'd trade him at the break and get a HELL of a lot back from it. Jeez, can you imagine that? On Machado: Mildly surprised that he didn't sign anywhere in the first week of January, but I expect him to sign this upcoming week. That, to me, was always the prime point. I figured he'd sign in the second week or possibly first.

That's unbelievably poor analysis, lmao. They are in a clear rebuild with very little pieces and in an extremely tough division.
