QUOTE(mike12345 @ Dec 23, 2005 -> 11:32 PM) We dont need another great arm, but we do need someone decent. Our pen doesnt need to be that good with us having 5 starters capable of throwing 200+ innings. Teams with great bullpens go deep into the playoffs ( in most cases). Starting pitchers on every team go into a bad streak for a week or two. Bad starting pitching + mediocore relievers = trouble.

QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Dec 23, 2005 -> 06:38 PM) Either way, I think we're better off to start this season with Bobby at the back end of our bullpen and those other 3 guys you mention than we were last year with Shingo at the back of our bullpen. We just need to find someone else to pitch a few innings. I still view hermanson as a question mark for next season. Even if he can pitch for us i think it is unrealistic to expect the same production from him (would hope so). While i know nearly everyone loves jenks i honestly believe he will not be the best closer on this team when it is said and done ( years from now). I think cotts will be the one to have a much longer and successful career.

QUOTE(SSH2005 @ Dec 23, 2005 -> 02:48 PM) Tell him to learn how to spell "ever." Also, tell him how to spell "ridiculous," not redirkulous, or whatever that crap is. Thing is i know how to spell. He didn't know how to f***ing put a space after a , or comma. I did not mean to get him pissy.

QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Dec 23, 2005 -> 11:40 AM) Encarnacion isn't near as bad as some of you say he is. He'll probably hit 15-20 Hr's, hit .270, and he can play all 3 outfield positions. No, he really does suck. This guy likes to flop around in the outfield all the time. He is like eric byrnes - catching the ball. He was equivalent to timo perez to the marlins fans. They use to have a couple threads a day about how they wanted him hung by his testicles. His arm also sucks balls and is very unaccurate. This guy is basically a carl everett type of hitter... and carl everett's suck. I would definitely not be surprised if sanders out produces this scrub a dub.

QUOTE(SSH2005 @ Dec 23, 2005 -> 12:14 PM) He's sure to beat out Mark Loretta and Tony Graffanino! You play willie against strickly righties and he will get on at a damn good clip...( easily over .360) while being a very good base runner, and being one of the best fielding second baseman in the league. I honestly think the only guy better than him is hudson... who is just as redirk as they come. I know you hate willie but alot of people undervalue what he can bring to a team because he is a douche.

QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Dec 23, 2005 -> 10:06 AM) Has there been a draft class that hasn't been described as "Weak" since the turn of the century other than the one with Lebron, Melo, Wade, & Kirk? Sure, last year was very deep. Hell, the year before too. This year? Literally is gonna be one of the worst ever after the first 3-5 picks. -
Damn, surprised this did not come from boston dirt dogs.

QUOTE(greg775 @ Dec 22, 2005 -> 12:08 AM) f he wants more than 8 million a season, later California kid. We don't need you. Take your .500 career elsewhere if you want huge money. Says you. Not me. Pay him. How come we can keep signing Mark B to contracts and can't do the same with Jon. Jon Garland was a STAR last year. he should be part of our team for the next 5 years minimum. Just sign him. Because the two our not even comparable. Basically the best answer you are gonna get regarding your question.

QUOTE(Steve Bartman's my idol @ Dec 21, 2005 -> 03:51 PM) If I was JG, I'd ask for a 2 year $16 million contract...when that ends he's only 28, THEN...MONSTER DOLLARS!!! ... Or he will likely get a monster contract if he does anything worthwhile next season.

QUOTE(White Sox Josh @ Dec 21, 2005 -> 12:32 PM) Why not try to trade Garland for something more then Prospects. http://www.soxtalk.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=44532

QUOTE(3E8 @ Dec 21, 2005 -> 12:04 PM) I agree with you for once. MLB players have more prospect-obtaining power at the trade deadline. In this case i most definitely think it is different. Any team that trades for him knows in advance he wants to test the market next off-season. I cannot see any team wanting half a season of a guy over a full especially if they were in need of major league pitching. Also, it is way to risky for the sox to wait until the dead line because garland is far from a lock to repeat his numbers of last year. His stock is at an all time high with the white sox as far as i am concerned.

QUOTE(WHarris1 @ Dec 21, 2005 -> 12:03 PM) Gotten jobbed in past years maybe? Doesn't mean he should have made it this year. All star games suck in every sport and mostly football because the season is over with. -

What the hell has mike brown done this year to deserve going? -
QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Dec 21, 2005 -> 11:47 AM) Hehe. It's the truth and has been proven time and time again. But it is a s3cks1 stat. I admit i do not mind stolen bases, but only when it is at a very good clip, which is few and far between in this league.
-
QUOTE(SSH2005 @ Dec 21, 2005 -> 11:46 AM) See the Mulder deal of last year and the Vazquez deal of this past week. You can still get a good return on a quality starting pitcher before the season begins. You will always get more value for a player before the season than in the middle of the year. It is only uncommon sense.
-
QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Dec 21, 2005 -> 11:38 AM) qwerty despises pods in case anyone didnt know. Anywho, he should hopefully be fine this year and yes a hamstring injury for a baserunner can be nagging as all hell. Should have stopped running and stop wasting outs. Everyone in the world but jphat wanted him to stop running and realized he was terrible at it the last two months of the season. It is mostly useless to steal bases and expecially when you go in a streak of getting caught 16 out of 20 times... was something redirkulous like that.
-
If podsednik is not healthy by now he has some real problems. A simple hamstring injury should not carry over to a new year. Realistically he should have stopped running when he got back from the the dl because he was bad running the bases period. When it came to stealing bases he was just awful.

QUOTE(SoxFan101 @ Dec 21, 2005 -> 03:53 AM) How many times does Chandler jam? Almost always its how he gets most of the very little points he does...... And Idonno if you watch defense or not but Chandler definitely uses his height on the defensive side. Yes Elton Brand is the better overall player but you really have no clue what your talking about. Chandler realistically jams one 2-5 chances he gets. He has zero composure when in the air to make his '' lay ups''... it is pretty sad/sickening actually.

QUOTE(SleepyWhiteSox @ Dec 21, 2005 -> 03:12 AM) I thought he had the flu? Yes, but i thought i head he tweaked something minor. Either way it is no big deal that he was not starting.

QUOTE(DBAH0 @ Dec 21, 2005 -> 01:26 AM) You guys really need to trade for a center, stat. Tony Battie has been mentioned around the league, but we'll probably want some good talent in return, he's actually been playing pretty well this season. Other guys you could look at, David Harrison from Indiana, Joel Pryzbilla from Portland (Ratliff started today, Joel may be in Nate's doghouse), Kelvin Cato and Lorenzen Wright. Like i said fifty times already... we will get our center at the end of this year. It would be a complete waste to trade for any of those except pryzbilla who the bulls will be going after hard. Pryzbilla also had a minor injury i believe and he is expected to make to start the next game.
