    What is 24 Hours?

SoutsideDON, I can tell that you’re speaking from the heart and I’m happy to see that your approach is working for you. I’m a very laid-back person myself when it comes to getting from point A to point B, but when things start piling up, I can’t have such a mellow approach because things don’t work out so right. Unfortunately, I’m not close to having an office space of my own any time soon and I don’t have to worry about paying any house bills . . . yet. My current job is perhaps the easiest, but then again it can be tedious because all I do is sit around making sure that the perimeter is secure (I’m a security guard for UPS dispatch) and making sure that I stay alert the entire night. I’m allowed to take my school work to work, but who wants to do it in front of a dozen mad-yelling truck drivers? Point being is that my current life structure perhaps isn’t as complicated as yours or anyone for that matter (such a those who have kids to feed and bosses to look after) and it won’t be that way forever. Right now I’m trying to put myself strait before I end up becoming a train wreck waiting to happen. And this is just the beginning of something big. I need to find a way to fix this small problem before things really get hairy. And ditto on the shaving. We’re not allowed to have facial hair or long hair as a security guard, but I got both working for me right now . . . show’s how much I listen to the rules.
  2. QUOTE (2nd_city_saint787 @ Feb 4, 2010 -> 12:59 PM) Yoda thanks man, make sure to introduce yourself so i know who ya are and if its not busy we can talk sox. Where ya from?? I’m right on the borderline between Griffith/Calumet Township. I’m also a student at Purdue so I really don’t have an excuse not to go. I’ll make sure to ask for you and I’ll bring some buddies as well since a good portion of them love pizza and Italian made food.

    What is 24 Hours?

QUOTE (iamshack @ Feb 4, 2010 -> 01:04 AM) Make checklists and check one thing off at a time. It is really that simple. I don’t know how many times I’ve tried to organize myself by creating a to-do list and actually following it. I mean, how do you fit it in a sudden shortage of time in finishing a lab before lab time is up? I study at least an hour or two a day for each course, but I’m also by no means a robot. I need to get outside and feel like I’m still alive in this world. And of course procrastination is a big troll on my shoulder, but who doesn’t have one in this day of age?

    What is 24 Hours?

Usually I find a way to get around things that have to be taken care of (e.g. paying my phone bill-on time, fixing my car so it can pass emissions) but as of late it has been difficult to keep myself organized. Perhaps it’s because I’m used to seeing things fall into place, such as taking it just one day at a time, but lately 24 hours is not enough time to set things right. I’m at school four days of the week with a somewhat decent schedule, yet the course material isn’t getting any easier. I guess teachers are getting back at the students because they were tortured with homework all the time? Three of my classes have labs and it seems like every time I finish one lab report the next one in-line is due. So school is taking a good part of my day away. Another thing is the fact that I don’t spend as much time with my girlfriend as I did in the winter break, but hey it’s understandable, right? I just hope that we can make it through another semester. I don't spend enough time with my friends and when I do it's usually over the phone just to hear my friend whine all night about how his girlfriend doesn't ever text him back . . . issues? I’m also in the process of getting my band to work together as a team and get some real playing time outside of the basement. Really there is not much time left for myself in a day. They say that a third of the day (8hrs) should be assigned to getting some sleep but sometimes I forget what sleep is and that could attribute to working the midnight shift on the weekends . . .

    USB Drives?

It’s like a style trend for me to wear it all the time, at least when I'm at school because afterwards nobody wants to see that.
  6. I’ll definitely have to make a stop there. I’m always in support of the little guy and you will be no exception. I’m from the area anyways so making it there will be no problem.
  7. And where are my peeps that never take no for an answer? It may seem ludicrous at first, but there is always time to convince a girl to change her way of thinking and come to realize that giving it a try won’t hurt unless the both of you aren’t in it together. Not everyone is the same and I see it as a card game where you play with the intention of winning. If you lose, try again, but after a while there should be a sign telling you whether you just had a bad hand or you were doomed from the beginning.

    Films Thread

I have the original version, but I would like to see the redux since I hear that there’s a different approach to the whole story and of course Coppola’s desire to edit what was already a movie taken in by many. Only problem I have is that I’ve seen the original plenty of times to conclude that it’s very long and adding another forty some minutes can only make it that much longer.

Watched Apocalypse Now last night and forgot how outrageously out of shape Marlon Brando was at this time of his career. Wouldn’t recognize him if it wasn’t for his dark eyes and that entrenched voice of his. The movie itself has a nice plot, but it lags in several sequences which does not lend itself to repeated viewings as perhaps a Full Metal Jacket or Platoon.
  10. There’s not much that I miss about Chicago except the proximity of my house to Comiskey (this coming from a guy who was born and raised in the South side of Chicago). I go back there and notice how everyone is in such a hurry to get to places and how there’s really not much privacy in anyone’s lives. I could stick my arm out of my old bedroom and I would literally have it in my neighbor’s side of the bed. You have a family barbecue in the backyard and then out of nowhere the whole neighborhood appears or they would have their own. It was a blast though when you only had to bring out the lawn mower for five minute’s and be able to walk on a sidewalk, and of course the occasional block parties that were held in the summer time.
  11. You have to eat more calories than your body burns off. Since you seem to be always floating around the mid 140’s (perhaps because you have a set schedule for eating) you want to eat more often and doing so will help gain mass. Try striving to eat around 20-22 times your body weight, in calories. So do the math. Let’s say you weigh in at exactly 150 and multiply that by 20 and you have 3000 calories that your body will take in when recovering from that kick ass workout you had sometime in the morning (or evening) and in the process build muscle. Oh and the running should definitely come to a limit. I always utilize the treadmill just for a ten minute warm-up whether I’m doing upper body or lower body workouts. If you think that seems like too much for too little, perhaps doing another run after your workout might do.

    Workout Tips & Tricks

Well now that we’re putting height out there, I can freely say that I’m 5’6 and weigh 148lbs. My goal: Get back to my senior year in high school where I was at 155 and had a nice bulky look to my size and what looked like my face. I stopped working out after high school because lack of time (had two jobs) and now I want to get back there and keep building on that. And I must point out that although I did weigh around 7-8 lbs more, I can still keep up with lifting the same weights. Could be that some of that bulk was just fat?

Hey Cript, I see that you're in the same weight class as I am (pehaps we weigh the same?) What exactly are you trying to achieve?

    Workout Tips & Tricks

Yes, running would be essential. I personally limit my running to where I’m just breaking a sweat since I’m trying not to lose weight, but gain weight (muscle mass is what I crave for). And from my personal experience, drinking water (at least half a gallon a day) will help in losing weight. The body needs to be hydrated and maintain that boost to keep you wanting more (in this case: energy to exercise).

    Spring Semester '10

QUOTE (Whitewashed in '05 @ Jan 20, 2010 -> 12:47 AM) ITS 120 Info Tech Interaction ITS 370 Data Communications and Networking ITS 372 Systems Administration and Management ITS 480 IT Project Development and Management My schedule sucks. I have to go to school four days of the week, two of those days for just one class. Sometimes they make it hard to go to school full time and have a part time job. I personally don’t mind going four days of the week and then having the weekend (incl. Friday) off. I have enough time in between classes where I can actually go over my notes and review whatever chapter is assigned. And even if I wanted to, I don’t think my advisor could have made something work when three out of my four classes have labs. So far all of my professors have seemed very refreshing compared to last semester. I still have one class left (only 1 today) and then it’s the end of the horrible first-day of school introductions and syllabus hand-outs.

    Spring Semester '10

I know there’s a few of us here that are working towards getting accredited with something meaningful and vigor (besides trying to top the post count here at Soxtalk ) and doing so sometimes takes time and effort while attending undergraduate courses. Today it was time to roll back into that routine and get set for what should be a semester with, oh who knows, a less than stressful four-months? Spring semester ’10 (BS of Science Electrical Engr. Tech) ECET 109 Digital Fundamentals ECET 110 Computer System Architecture ECET 265 Computer Networks MA 115 Intermediate Algebra

    Best burger joint

Schoops is HIGHLY overrated. If you like dry hamburgers than this place is for you. And people wonder why this region is considered tops in the overweight department? Oh and their highly raved about milkshakes are watered down. My vote goes to Steak N’ Shake.
  18. Just about every weekend I like putting in a few games. And I'm not real serious about it, I just love the atmosphere and of course the sound of 10 pins not knowing what hit them!

    Dog Issues

QUOTE (JPN366 @ Jan 12, 2010 -> 03:04 PM) Oh, I know, but it's better than leaving them somewhere. True, just because they don’t speak does not mean they don’t have feelings.

    Dog Issues

QUOTE (JPN366 @ Jan 12, 2010 -> 02:44 PM) I can't understand why someone would abandon an animal. Take it to a shelter, they do take in animals that people can't keep. Dogs remember the people who help them. Not to start an argument here, but shelter’s aren’t always the best way to get rid of a dog or any type of animal for that matter. I suggest asking friends who will find interest in taking care of them should be the first to go to.
