QUOTE (lostfan @ Sep 28, 2008 -> 01:38 AM) So, just now I went to go pick up one of my 25 lb barbells sitting next to me to do a spontaneous set of overhead triceps exercises. Only problem was I forgot I'm sitting in an office chair that leans backwards so once I raised it over my head and behind me I almost fell out of my f***ing chair. You're sort of like me during high school. I would try to pick up a dumb bell in the middle of playing a video game just to have that burn before getting back to the game. I would definitely like to get back to that style where all I wanted to do was workout, but of course, work started getting in the way and now I don't have the same motivation I used to.

I'm backing up Comcast on this one. I've had an LCD television for a while and it's been programed with Comcast only. You don't have to worry about no storm or strong winds interfering with the service and their On-Demand is up-to-date to the minute. And what I mean by that is that you can pretty much watch new releases when they come out on DVD. The Internet is blazing fast and those TV ad's saying that they don't stop making fast faster is no lie. I have wire-less internet on my labtop and I have never gone wrong with having any mulfunctioning situation with connecting online. As for the digital voice (home phone service) I've only had it for about a month and the only reason why I have it is because the offer that I had before was up and they offered to keep a relatively close package to my previous one if I were to add phone service. So I went with it and it's been nice so far. The home phone thing had been an absence for quite a while since all that is used in my family are cellphone's.

QUOTE (DABearSoX @ Sep 25, 2008 -> 09:44 AM) Guess sorta along these lines... I hate the American custom of tipping for every goddamn thing someone provides. With restaurants it seems to me most people do the customary 15-20% deal. f*** that, I tip on service....what a tip actually should be, you have outstanding service (keeping my water/drinks filled, making sure everything is to my liking, not coming over and bothering the s*** out of me every 2 minutes) then you get a good tip....if you fail my qualifications you get a tip based on how s***ty you were anywhere from 0-5%. And waiters/waitresses please come in and defend how "hard" your job is....Please....why because sometimes it’s busy? Sometimes you have an asshole customer? Sometimes you would rather be home getting high? You write down an order, maybe do some prep work, carry some food to a table (even though half the time I get a runner), say hello and goodbye, wrap some silverware up at the end of the day...man what a hard job. God and those places that don't even tip out to the cooks are ludicrous, the people that actually do the work in a restaurant. This is how I would rank positions in a well established restaurant : 1. Cooks ( Have to be able to understand the writing of perhaps someone who barely managed to make it through their freshman year in high school and are constantly being told to be precise on certain meals (i.e. "Make sure that this is not burned or the customer will not have it." The cooks not only have to cook what would be served to various customers, but also have to clean the environment that they work around with before thinking about heading out the door. Oh, and for those who haven't been in the kitchen, it's more like being in an oven. Cooks have to put up with the most when talking about hard labor and dirty jobs). 2. Bus-Boy (This could definitely be arguable with a dish-washer, but I'm giving it to the bus-boy because they don't get paid by the hour, it's whatever tips the waitresses give them. Okay, they do get paid by the hour, but it's embarassing when asked how much the hourly wage is. In some cases it's better if the issue is not brought up. The duties are plenty in the sense of cleaning up, making sure that everything is out and in order, and of course cleaning up the environment that is worked in. It is what it is, if the waitress is having a bad day the BB's won't have it any better). 3. Dish-Washer (All the left-over's have to go somewhere. And how about those dirty plates? They just don't throw them away and bring out new ones. There are times when a D.W. is always having to play catch-up because there are bus-boy's bringing in container's one after another. And those big soup container's can be a pain, along with all the pans, soup spoons and who know's what other kitchen material need's to be cleaned. Taking out the garbage and the working environment has to be taken care too). 4. Waitress (When walking in to a restaurant it seems like one is always greeted by the nicest waitress one can possibly have. They nicely ask to offer something to drink and any kind of appetizer. The kindness is just a disguise that is well played out to have the customer's feel like their at home. A waitress takes orders, puts it up for the cook's to see and wait till the food is ready and served. In between there's math solving to see how much has been added to the bill, calculator provided of course. Once the food is ready, it's served to the customer and now it's just a matter of timing. Having to ask frequently for anything needed and such. There could be the average customer seeking for perfectionism in every aspect of service, but it can be dealt with the supervisor). Overall, a waitress gets paid real good money with having to do less hard-labor. If the math is done right, it could be that a waitress makes about $10 an hour in addition to the hourly wage. Yes, the life of a restaurant employee is not the easiest, but there are some that have it worse than the other. To be a successful and at least decently happy employee, there needs to be almost 100% guranteed customer satisfaction. Because it all comes down to how the customer's respond and the response 99.9% of the time is the value of their money.

QUOTE (DonkeyKongerko @ Sep 26, 2008 -> 01:32 PM) Plenty of station-to-station offenses with bad chemistry have won divisions and even world championships. Even the Yankees of a few years ago used to do it and regularly pound better Twins teams in the playoffs. For whatever reason, Sox are just a horrible road team with the ridiculous exception of 2005. I still don't understand that season. What is there to understand? You had player's like Cotts, Politte, and Hermanson who had career year's! Now where are they? Not to mention that no one knew who or what Jenks offered. The bullpen along with the 4 front man were enough to support a well built team with chemistry. Needless to say, Ozzie ball was in existence at that time.
-
It's a toss-up between whose the best team, but it can be seen that Minnesota has the better chemistry. It's just a matter of them executing and having things go their way (i.e. umps giving them calls). Hell, for all we know, this series might start a streak that can put the Twins on a verge of being the team to beat come October. If previous season's have indicated anything it's that whoever gets hot in the last week of the regular season they are more than likely to continue playing well in the post-season. You have the '05 Sox, '06 Cards, and most definitely the Rockies to prove that.

I've honestly accepted the fact that Quentin's injury was, or is serious, and any indication of him doing well at this time can only be an elightenment after all the fuss that's been occuring in this horrendous month of September. If it's for the best, bring Quentin back at a definite 100% for next season.

QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Sep 25, 2008 -> 10:59 PM) Ozzie was quite thoroughly outmanaged in this series too. I still don't understand why the lines weren't being guarded for Span's triple. Ozzie has been outmanaged in various series. And this hasn't only happened this year, but in previous season's as well. One can only give praise that the '05 roster contained career year's for many of it's players (i.e. Cliff Politte, Neal Cotts, Hermanson, etc.,). What goes into Ozzie's head is beyond anyone's knowledge.

It wouldn't surprise if the smallest amount of Ray fan's were to boo AJ. It's this thing that fans have where they feed off of other fans. Not to mention that AJ has built a reputation of being in the middle of a lot of controversial displays.

Tomorrow will more than likely decide the fate of the 2008 Chicago White Sox.

I have work so even if I wanted to tune in I can't. At least I'll avoid having to buy a new remote control and tv screen monitor.

QUOTE (Queen Prawn @ Sep 24, 2008 -> 09:56 PM) I don't know what I despise more, the Twinkies or the Hump Dome. I had a bad feeling about this series, but I didn't think the Sox were going to be as pathetic as they have been. Definitely put today's performance up there with Freddy G's two hit shut-out from a couple of season's ago where he walked away with a loss.

It wasn't very wise to use Wise in that situation. Sorry, just had to . . . And I say it's mandatory that everyone with a Wise rally avatar is banned from this site for the next game.

It actually hurts to see this. It was one thing to expect the Twins ownings us, but going through it slowly like that is very hard to swallow.

I don't believe in that whole re-run of Boston winning last season and then us winning the following year just because there is a similar trend to way back. A team is looked upon at how well it is built. Teams like the Angels, D-Rays, and Boston have several ways of trying to win a game. They have pitching, defense, and just enough offense to put together a showing of potential to go deep into a pennant race. For the White Sox to emerge as a contender they need to rely on someone to hit the ball out of the park. Granted that we are 16 games above .500 and lead the majors in HR's, you can throw those stats out the window once October is here.

Should be 9/24 not 9/25
-
This team has not been able to put together a good amount of win's together. Chances of putting something together these last six games are very slim. Perhaps the biggest win streak was seven, but ever since it has been more like win one lose two and so on. If this team makes it to the playoffs I don't expect them to survive for long. It's not surprising to me that the current game has turned out the way it has. The Twins are dominant when they are in the dome! While you can watch them do just about everything fundametally correct we can sit back and wait for the three-run shot to show up (not happening against good pitching).

I had planned to get out of work 10 minutes early, but that didn't work out. I got home just to see the last five minutes of the first episode and was very thrilled when a second "new" episode was immediately on. That took me by surprise. Watching "The Gang" going at it with a few beers under the belt can only make that show so much more extravagant.

QUOTE (WilliamTell @ Sep 16, 2008 -> 09:08 PM) NEVER count the Twins out until it's over. No kidding. We're talking about a team that was suppose to come back to earth some time ago, but here we are in mid-September and they are still hanging around. They have truly earned the nickname "pirannahs."

There is high water on I-94 from Calumet Ave to Cline Ave. Taking main roads such as Torrence and Ridge Road is such a pain, especially when I have a v8 that will heat up when traffic is heavy. It was no fun to get from Tinley Park to Scherreville in 3 hours.

The F2 storm that just passed by here (NW Indiana) not too long ago. Trees were literally pulled out of their roots. The streets were covered with branches and all kinds of tree sap. Not to mention that we didn't have electricity for four days and we constantly had to add gallons of gasoline to a disturbing generator.

Interesting. Although the map shows a small quantity of respondants and was taken from five years ago, you can pretty much differentiate the favorable term for different regions of the country. Pop being the most dominate one overall. Personally I would always incline to saying "pop" but later went back to "soda."
-
Sad to say that you can't rely on one player to carry this team. It was as if Carlos Quentin was on a "one man mission" to lead this team past September and into the sweet sense of October baseball.

QUOTE (Jenksy Cat @ Sep 8, 2008 -> 03:26 PM) Do any of the contending/playoff teams have a Cliff Lee caliber guy? Nope. Granted that Cliff Lee has been beyond unbelievable, there are still the likes of Scott Kazmir, Matt Garza, Dice-K Matsuzaka, Jon Lester, Josh Beckett, and so on. The point is that quality pitching, which seems to be present in the postseason, can silence an offense that leads the majors in HR's.

QUOTE (LosMediasBlancas @ Sep 8, 2008 -> 02:53 AM) The Brewers suck balls, period. Lol, the Brewers could have been looking, at best, tied for the lead, but they seem to falter whenever the Cubs do. Sad but true. There's still a few weeks to go though and this one isn't in the books yet . . .

QUOTE (Jenksy Cat @ Sep 8, 2008 -> 02:05 PM) ehh I don't know about that. When 2-9 have a legitimate shot of hitting one 400ft, JD, a hot PK, Thome, Griffey, A-ram, and Swish. Los should be back in a month or by the playoffs and could help even more. A healthy Linebrink, a Macdougal that has seemingly learned how to throw a strike again, and Jenks. Did any of the above hit one against Cliff Lee? I didn't think so. Luckily no one will have to see him in the playoffs.
