I would find it almost impossible to walk into another KFC and look at the back area without referring to these absurd pictures.

QUOTE (SoxFan1 @ Dec 9, 2008 -> 07:58 PM) Soc is relatively easy. Know conflict-theory, social movements, and s*** of that nature... 2nd final (GEO) down, pretty confident with how I did. Last one on Thursday for Euro HST. I'm just worried that the final may contain preliminary questions about a book that I never really got to finishing. I had 3 other books to read for crying out loud!
-
I only have one final which is early tomorrow morning. It's for my Sociology 100 class. I have mixed feelings going in to it; haven't taken a final since mid-May.

What an adorable baby. Congratulations on such a blessing.

QUOTE (BobDylan @ Nov 7, 2008 -> 06:07 AM) I wouldn't go as far as to call it a pile of suck. It's not season 1, 2, or 3 quality but it had its moments. I'm not sure if the new show they're working has anything to do with the drop in quality, but I hope that is the case because those first three seasons were some of the best television I've ever seen. What is the new show that you speak of, Bob?

QUOTE (PlaySumFnJurny @ Nov 6, 2008 -> 11:45 AM) I recall having similar "weird dreams" when I was in school and would fall asleep trying to study, too. I never thought that it might be some kind of "syndrome." I figured it just manifested some kind of tug of war between my physcial self that needed rest, and the mental self that felt guilty about sleeping and knew I needed to be studying instead. I wouldn't worry about it. I didn't, and I never experienced it again after finishing school almost 20 years ago. Ironically, however, that's when I started having recurring dreams about having to take an exam during finals week that I hadn't studied for or had forgotten all about. Somebody told me once that that's a fairly common dream among people after leaving school, but one rarely had by students. I think if you're fairly serious about your studies, it can impact your subconscious, but not necessarily in a detrimental way. I'm not a doctor or a shrink, but I'm sure its nothing. Try not to go all "Peter Brady" over it just because you read something about it that may not even apply. Of course, if it continues to bother you over time and in different contexts, then by all means have it checked out. Thank you. This is what I wanted to hear. Someone who has been through this dexterity. Perhaps I've been trying do a little too much in the past three months or so. The truth is that I don't have one day that I can honestly just sit back and try to take it easy. I only have 24hrs to work with and I try to force the issue to a stretch where it's been effecting my rest. After all, the human body should utilize a third of a day to sleep. That just hasn't been able to fit in my weekly timetable.

QUOTE (BobDylan @ Oct 31, 2008 -> 03:39 PM) Loved the last episode and the One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest parody. Remarkably, De Vito was in that classic some 30+ years ago just to replicate a similar plot in this recent episode.

QUOTE (shipps @ Nov 5, 2008 -> 11:14 AM) Damn Yoda that would freak me out. You need to see a doctor about that and do a sleep study just to make sure that's not a symptom of maybe something else that is going on. The thing that worries me is that this may grow to be a chronic disease. It may have to do with my diet (high cholesterol) or hypertension (sleep apnea). Since I have been napping more frequently than usual and my body is trying to take in stress, I could be encountering an issue that is perhaps taken lightly by a lot of people. If this happens to be an everyday thing then I'll be looking to get like a polysomnogram. QUOTE (FlaSoxxJim @ Nov 5, 2008 -> 11:56 AM) You are a freak of nature and I'm frightened. I'm actually jealous of everybody who has cool, vivid dreams. except for the zombies, mine tend to be rather mundane. Mine are far from being cool. If trying to jump out of a car with the brake's not working seems exotic and different, than I'll take your ordinary dreams any day!

Say what you want about Dye, he'll be playing RF for the White Sox in '09.

I'm currently at the college library and I decide to read a book that I am fairly behind in. I'm able to get in a whole chapter till I realize that I am too tired to continue with anymore reading. So I go to a private booth where no one is around and decide to take a nap. Before I know it, I am trying to escape out of this nap! I know that I am just dreaming, but hell, I want to get out of it. I struggle to get out, such movements include making sure that I am moving my legs as to assure that I am conscious and breathing very hard to keep the adrenaline at a pace where perhaps someone can deliver me out of this temporary reverie. What happens to be my savior is my discharged phone. The instant it beeped I was me again! Sleep Paralysis Please tell me I'm not the only one who experiences this . . . frequently.

QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Oct 17, 2008 -> 02:40 AM) Because there are 30+ other guys on his team that helped get the team to the playoffs, and then there are 24 other guys on his team during the playoffs? Did Manny win those rings all by himself? Who's had the better career, Ken Griffey Jr or Manny Ramirez? It's not an entirely flawed argument, but if you are using rings, than the answer should certainly be Manny Ramirez, right? Didn't I already mention on a previous post that there is a 25 man roster, but out of that 25 there is always a few players, or at least a couple, that can carry a team? Carlos Quentin, of this season, is a good example. He did so much to the contribution of this year's success that in everyone's eyes he seems to have the caliber to be someone you can depend on. Alex Rodriguez seems to let the media get to him when he is going through a slump and in turn the fans in New York are not too far away from looking up on him. With Manny, he goes through this whole off-field debacle, but that doesn't stop him from coming through in the clutch when he's on the field. I completely understand that Manny and Alex are going to put up good #'s when it's all said and done, but there are stretche's where each player inevitably has to get slammed because of lack of interest or lack of producing when needed. It's easy to figure which of the two falls into one of those terms. And as odd as it may seem, both always have to go through that and I don't see it going away until they are consecrated in the Hall of Fame. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Oct 17, 2008 -> 02:40 AM) It's also funny that you still have yet to acknowledge that you are tearing ARod apart because of 35 PAs. How on earth does that make sense? You must be a pretty forgiven person because you don't get 35 PAs back, EVER.

QUOTE (Heads22 @ Oct 13, 2008 -> 01:44 PM) The pilot seemed pretty damn good. I think it was mediocre at best. Sure am proud that they decided to stick with what they did.

QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Oct 17, 2008 -> 12:35 AM) Alex Rodriguez's postseason line - .279/.361/.483/.844. Not fantastic, but people seem to be pointing out that he's been absolutely beyond terrible...that looks respectable. In 2007, he put up a .267/.353/.467/.820...again, not fantastic, but he more than held his own. He was also very good in the 2004 postseason and even put up an .894 OPS in their collapse against Boston. Prior to that, he was pretty much a one-man wrecking crew. Where he struggled the most were the 2005 and 2006 postseasons...35 plate appearances. ARod is the most unclutch baseball player in the history of the universe because he struggled for a 35 plate appearance stretch in the postseason. Get f***ing real. I also enjoy the World Series ring argument, because it's one of the worst arguments one can make. Is Gavin Floyd a better pitcher than John Danks because he won more games? Are David Eckstein and Timo Perez better players than Alex Rodriguez because they've won two? or equals to Manny because they can put the same number of rings on their fingers? Whoah there . . . now your putting names on the table that can't be comparable to the player in discussion. Who is this Timo Perez that you speak of? You know, as well as I do, that Manny has earned those World Series rings. I am not taking anything away from Eckstein or Timo, but when you look at the salary differences and the attitude's of these player's, there is a very broad horizon. Manny is getting the big bucks and in turn he is performing. A-Rod is getting much more but showing much less.

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Oct 16, 2008 -> 07:46 PM) Manny has had the luxury of playing for better teams than ARod. The Mariners became a power. The Rangers were and are awful. Its because of Manny the Indians became winners? You do know the Indians won the AL Central the year Manny left? They also had guys like Colon, Lofton, Belle, Thome, Alomar, Vizquel over the years. It was all Manny the Red Sox won? How come it didn't happen right away? And if it was all him, how in the world did the Red Sox make the playoffs without him this year. The Dodgers won 84 games. Its not like that is some outstanding team. They were 30-25 with Manny, a decent record, but not eye popping. ARod gets slammed because of the Mariners season after he left, but how far did they advance in the playoffs? The year ARod left and his last season, the Mariners lost in the ALCS. Texas had a better record without him, but really are you going to the credit that to his not being on the team? If anyone thinks a 36 year old meathead, albeit a great hitter when he wants to be, is more valuable than a guy who probably will go down as the greatest player ever, you might be as nuts as Manny. At least with ARod, you can always count on him giving his best effort. So your choosing sides with A-Rod because Manny has his on-stage antics that are contributing to his "look at me" performances? How come no one ever talks about his "look at me, I'm hitting for average, on base percentage, and power" performance's that he continuously puts out year in and year out. Sure, every good team has to have a 25 man roster, but there's always big game contributors that can carry a team and Manny is one of them. In A-Rod's case, he hasn't helped the Yankee's the last three season's with his .267, .071, and .133 batting averages. And you can make a case of having teammates that are no better (e.g. the Yankees of this decade). Isn't there always a person in the clubhouse who should try to give the team some sort of boost? If I were to pick sides on that, I would not depend on Mr. A-Rod.
-
QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Oct 16, 2008 -> 05:38 PM) And Rodriguez played a pretty solid SS for quite a few years and is now a suitable defensive 3Bman. Manny Ramirez plays a terrible defense in LF. ARod also has a 40-40 season under his belt and he could get his 300th stolen base sometime next season. Add to it that he's going into his age 33 season, and it's quite obvious who the more valuable player is. Yeah . . . for a guy who can show up in regular season play. Or should that even be green? Because he can show good #'s in regular season play, but can't produce in the postseason. Manny has been in 4 World Series team's, two which have given him two WS ring's that he can proudly wear on his finger's. A-Rod has NADA! The question of this thread was simply "Who's worth more . . ." and if you break down both players you will have results that are arguably good when talking about their offensive approach. But, you also have to look at their post-season experience and it's quite obvious that Manny is the more valuable player.

If the Josh Beckett of old is present for Saturday night's ballgame, then you can crown the Red Sox World Series champs for the third time in five years. That's how much of a limb I'm going out on . . .

QUOTE (Wanne @ Oct 15, 2008 -> 10:26 PM) GEEZ-US CHRIST...the Phillies are 79-0 this season when leading after the 8th inning!?!?!? That's sick. A lot of that success is due in part to Brad Lidge. -
QUOTE (Brian @ Oct 15, 2008 -> 10:08 PM) Manny wins rings and is more clutch. Even though the knocking of ARod not being clutch maybe a tad overrated. How's it overrated when he can't hit for lick in the playoffs? When it REALLY counts.

Boy, you look back and remember how bad the weather was the first month and a half. Now, Oct 12, it's a happy 86 degrees in Chicago. Awesome video. Not to be critical, but I feel the Journey song is a 2005 thing and should only be associated with that team. But that's just me.

QUOTE (Heads22 @ Oct 10, 2008 -> 11:35 PM) I've just started watching the show. I'm up to Season 1, Episode 2. If you own Seasons 1 and 2, it is best to watch the episodes in order because in some cases you will be lost and unsure of certain saying's that are carried into the crazy adventures the crew goes through. I can guarantee you this, if you take the show too seriously you won't find it very amusing. I watched the "Mack and Charlie are Dead" episode for a second time and it really grew on me. The glory hole thing is priceless.

QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Oct 6, 2008 -> 11:00 PM) How the heck would Dye moving to DH hinder his offense? Is he more of a mental midget than I know? Dye is simply not a good RF anymore. If you could move somebody there a little quicker/athletic, why wouldn't you? Are you looking at the same RF as I am? You know, the one with #23 on his uniform? A .996 FPCT is nothing to be fussing about. He has an above average arm and doesn't misjudge like a Wise would over in LF. Until I see a sudden change in speed or athletism, I say he remains where he has been most comfortable in the last four seasons as a White Sox.
-
QUOTE (joesaiditstrue @ Oct 6, 2008 -> 07:36 PM) Dye at DH I agree with, but I think CQ's natural position is RF, move swish permanently to left Honestly, how bad is Alexei at CF? The only downside I can think of is we'd be lacking in two infield spots Dye isn't moving anywhere. He is staying at his natural position. It would be critical if he were to be in the dugout about 75% of game time. Yes, he'll be 35 come '09, but he still has a lot left in the tank. One can only imagine what kind of impact there can be to his offense if he is designated hitter for a whole season. JD has been an astonishing player since the day he put that Sox uniform on. Still very underrated in terms of being a contributor to the different ballclubs Kenny has thrown out there.

"Boston Red Sox vs. Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim ALDS Thread
Yoda replied to Brian's topic in The Diamond Club
If I'm not mistaking, the Red Sox were not able to pull off a win at Tropicana Field in the regular season. Looking at the way things have been going for the likes of the Rays in artificial turf, they have the advantahe going into the ALCS. Personally, I would like to see the Rays advance. They have proven that just because they are young and inexperienced, they can still go out there and take care of business. Not to mention that the Red Sox have been in this situation way too often in the past few season's and it's time for the torch to be passed down. -
QUOTE (Kid Gleason @ Oct 6, 2008 -> 05:36 PM) ugh...I just walked in on one. Well, we won't have to worry about that anymore. At least I won't . . .

QUOTE (Princess Dye @ Oct 6, 2008 -> 11:07 AM) Danks mentioned this on his interview on the Score this morning. Really disappointing. We're all frustrated with him, no doubt. But why upset this guy when he's probably going to be coming out of the pen in Game 4 or 5 and is going to give everything he's got, even if it isnt a ton this late in the year. Also 208 IP during the regular season and got some important quality starts mid Aug to mid Sept. Plus coming back next year. I mean what could possibly be the good of booing him. Be disappointed, no need to prove it. We're about the nicest fans there are in baseball. Very rarely do we boo anyone in this team, yet when we do, we're the bad guys? Heck, if Vasquez was still with the likes of the Yankees he would be shedding tears. Let the fans react to a player who has showed nothing to prove that he is worthy of starting in October baseball.
