  1. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jan 16, 2012 -> 04:31 AM) Because Oswalt could easily be a financial disaster for one season. And you're advocating the Sox sign him?
  2. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jan 15, 2012 -> 04:12 PM) Which is more likely Marty, the White Sox trade Alexei Ramirez before Opening Day or sign Edwin Jackson on a one/two year contract with limited NTC? What one has to do with the other is mystifying.
  3. QUOTE (Big Hurtin @ Jan 15, 2012 -> 02:40 PM) They both are, but only one is still on the White Sox payroll. Ozzie is yesterday's news. Agreed.
  4. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Jan 15, 2012 -> 01:23 PM) why do you insist on repeating "It is as if Cowley dissed Soxtalk" when you know full well that he has done so, and has done so repeatedly? It really doesnt reflect well on you. Oh wait, you dont care. Neither do we. Go figure Cowley is a 2 bit hack, and a b****. And he pretty much admitted that he couldnt take the heat when thrown back at him when he talked to Speigel last week. I'm amused that so many things come back to Cowley on here.
  5. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jan 15, 2012 -> 02:07 PM) So is Ozzie. Remember when he "benched" Rios for loafing? And Oney is an Ozzie clone mouth-wise. It will be interesting to see the response. Just keep in mind Ozzie didn't just leave with 2 games to go. He was under contract for 2012, but that wasn't good enough for him. I agree, Guillen is a 110% talk too.
  6. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jan 15, 2012 -> 12:17 PM) Oswalt, Garza, Floyd...those are the last 3 chips to fall, as it currently stands. The reason I wrote that about Jackson is that the idea was being floated that many teams (Yankees) were looking at offering him only a 1-2 year deal and shying away from 3-4-5 years on Edwin. The White Sox are not going to deal with Scott Boras. The idea that maybe he's closer to being a White Sox because the Yankees are off the market is absurd.
  7. QUOTE (Big Hurtin @ Jan 14, 2012 -> 10:11 PM) If Peavy wants me to like him, he can start by pitching 7+ quality innings. My sentiments exactly. Given the choice between Guillen or Peavy, Guillen wins hands down.
  8. Soxtalk was wrong about Adrian Gonzalez and got slapped down for it by Cowley. So what? The grudge that is being held for it on here is really entertaining to watch, but doesn't reflect well on those involved.
  9. There are a lot of thin skins in here then.
  10. You would think Cowley dissed Soxtalk with the hatred here for him.
  11. Peavy is 110% talk.
  12. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jan 14, 2012 -> 10:12 AM) On a year one deal? I like the idea if it keeps a pitcher from being pushed too fast. I don't think a team would trade for Floyd if Jackson were available on a 1-year deal.
  13. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jan 14, 2012 -> 12:26 AM) to the SOX become more and more likely by the minute? Among other reasons why this won't happen, the White Sox will never pursue a Boras client on the open market.
  14. White Sox attendance is based on the previous year. Put together a team that exceeds expectations this year and there will be a bump in 2013. 2012 is a lost cause attendance-wise.
  15. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jan 11, 2012 -> 06:24 PM) Chris Carter/Quentin B. Allen Michael Morse Ordonez Lee Durham Crede Rowand Beckham was a great hitter at UGA and his first year with us, until fading at the end Alexei Ramirez Dayan Viciedo Jeremy Reed Jeff Abbott was a great hitter in college/minors, like J. Reed Chris Young Morel has the ability to stick around for 5+ years It's not like the White Sox system can't produce any hitters. The big misses on Fields/Anderson/Borchard are partly what have created that perception. That's a sorry list particularly when you consider the players that were drafted.
  16. Everyone would like more money to spend, but to me the biggest problem with the farm system is our amateur scouts don't know what a good hitter looks like.
  17. What was the farm system ranked before the Hudson trade? Again, if Sale turns out to be a top of the rotation starter to go along with Hudson . . . That might not be top 5, but it isn't bottom 5 either and certainly not dead last. Throw Molina in the mix and there's a possibility that by 2014 the worst system in baseball produced 3 front of the rotation starters.
  18. QUOTE (TaylorStSox @ Jan 10, 2012 -> 06:18 PM) You can count Santos, Gio and Hudson too really. Right and I forgot about Viciedo too. Farm system rankings are fun to read.
  19. If Sale and Molina are top of the rotation starters, Reed is a top tier closer, Morel is an everyday 3B, and Beckham develops, that's pretty good production from one of the worst rated farm systems over the last three years.
  20. If Sale and Molina are regarded as top of the rotation starters in two years the Sox will be a contending team for the forseeable future. If not, then it's more of a project. One that KW probably won't be in charge of.
  21. Farm system rankings have jumped the shark this offseason. Which will happen first, the Sox winning a playoff series or they have a top 10 farm system?
  22. The goal should be sustained excellence. KW deserves a ton of credit for the '05 team, but he has frittered away the opportunity that championship gave the organization in the years that followed it.
  23. QUOTE (GreatScott82 @ Jan 8, 2012 -> 09:40 AM) For our team to compete for the central, 6 out of our starting 9 would need to have career years or close to it. (Beckham, Ramirez, Morel, Rios, De Aza and Viciedo) Given their careers to this point that's not saying much. The AL Central is no behemoth.
  24. On a 2012 team full of questions, Sale and Peavy are the most important ones. If they fail they won't compete in the central.
  25. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jan 7, 2012 -> 08:45 PM) And whether Marty gets his wish and Brent Lillibridge is the starting SS on Opening Day. Mr. 34, you're still in favor of trading Thornton, right? But not your buddy AJ, I think. Ond would assume you also want to keep Konerko...what about Crain and Floyd? Deal or stand pat until July 31st? As the team stands now Sale and Peavy's performances will determine if they compete in the AL Central. This has not been a rebuild.
