2008 White Sox: WE GOT GRIFFEY! (finally)
-
Congrats! I hope she's a White Sox good luck charm!
-
That documentary was done by a Chicago production company, Siskel/Jacobs, by the way.

It's like Ike through a chair at him or something.

Who do you think will win the November election?
CanOfCorn replied to NorthSideSox72's topic in The Filibuster
I know there's no cheerleading, but I hope Obama/Biden wins... That being said...I have a bad feeling about it, so I voted (in this poll ONLY) for McCain/Palin...and it hurts. -
It is, to me, a day of rememberance...and it always will be. What makes it that is the fact that we were attacked on our own soil in arguably, the Capital of the World. And I know Hawai'i is on our soil as well, but it's waaaay out there in the ocean, where New York is, well, New York. Not to mention that the Japanese attacked a military base while Al Qaeda attacked civilians. I'm still on the fence about making today a Day of Remembrance, but I think I lean more towards making it an official day...because of the defenseless people that had no way to fight back. THAT, to me, always makes me shudder.

Introducing the "new" Oklahoma City NBA franchise

QUOTE (WilliamTell @ Sep 11, 2008 -> 01:45 PM) I forgot about OSU being the Cowboys, but I didn't want them to pick the Cowboys anyways. I don't like it when sports teams have the same name, like the Giants and Cardinals are both in baseball and football. I was hoping they'd pick something like the Marshalls or along those lines, but that name wasn't even mentioned. Instead they pick the Thunder, which sounds almost as bad as Iowa's new hockey team, the Iowa Chops. At least OKC continued with the lack of plurality such as the Jazz, Magic, and Heat. And in my opinion they should drop the "City" and just be the Oklahoma Thunder. But "OKC" looks cooler. -

So is today your birthday DBAHO? Or was it yesterday? Or tomorrow? Stupid International Date Line. Happys! Oh yeah, and happy birthday to you to, Felix!

The only one I can think of that would know me right off the bat was the former lead guy on the Morning Fix on Q101, Alan Cox. We used to work together a long time ago. Other than that...I have extended connections to author Dave Eggers, TV personality from Work Out, Zen Gray, and news people Jen Roscoe in Champaign, Steve Osunsami with ABC, and Kyung Lah with CNN.

My wife makes what she calls a "Special Sammich." When she first told me about it, it sounded kinda icky, but then... Basically, make a grilled cheese and add an egg and peanut butter. When you are drunk or hungover, it's the cure to what ails ya! Mmmmm...

QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Sep 10, 2008 -> 01:05 PM) I'd have to guess it's mostly Palin. Also depends when they took the poll...after her speech or after the convention.

My first thought when reading your post was..."What's over?" I mean, nothing started, right? Don't sweat it...well, sweat it a little, cuz it's human nature. But, give her some time and things should at least get back to being friends. By the way, where does she go to school? Is she really far away?

QUOTE (Steff @ Sep 9, 2008 -> 12:27 PM) It sure does. My husband is NEVER off the clock as he gets phone calls at ALL hours of the night and answers emails until midnite many nights. However he gets paid a salary and that salary covers the nature of the beast and if that beast rings the phone at 10pm, he answers it, WITHOUT logging and charging the call to the company. Steff...a lot has to do with company policy and/or the job someone does. In every job I've had they always ask, are you ok with overtime and weekends? Why, because that's the nature of the beast. If I want to do it, that's part and parcel of the job. YET, if I travel for the company, like SS2K5, as soon as I walk out my door, I'm on the clock. Also, if I'm done with my day, and I'm called back in or called for another reason, even if I didn't have to go in, it gets charged. Because, I was done for the day. We can't just throw everyone into a barrel and say, that's the way it is or that's not the way it is.

Thanks guys...makes sense.

QUOTE (knightni @ Sep 9, 2008 -> 12:47 PM) Hits = mlb notice, which = cash money. True, but so does a well-rounded game. I thought the whole idea is that the more pitches you see, the better hitter you are... ...with the exception of Nick Swisher this year.

Now obviously this isn't exclusive to Latin players, but I was wondering if anyone had a theory about why so many Latin players have such horrible plate discipline?

Media Bias: Perceived or Real? To what extent, and where?

QUOTE (MurcieOne @ Sep 9, 2008 -> 01:13 PM) I don't venture over this way often, but I couldn't help but respond to this post. I know being an independent is often scoffed at in the same way that fans of both the cubs and the sox are... but I think partisanship has gotten way out of control in this country, the media included. I was watching CNN one night after RNC (supposedly the balance between MSNBC and FOXNEWS) and I was just floored with the amount of criticism the republicans received as opposed to the dems after the DNC. The reality of the situation is that we have a broken government, where the lobbyists run washington. Both candidates receive large contributions from special interests and thats the kind of news that should be reported! Yikes. Not too mention that the "D" and the "R" don't really mean what they used to mean anymore. -
QUOTE (Rex Kicka** @ Sep 9, 2008 -> 12:59 PM) That's great. It's legal. It's still everything she claims to be against. And not a decision she made years or decades ago. It was a decision she made consistently for her entire tenure as Governor. What upsets me as an interested observer to politics is when people talk the talk and don't walk the walk.... and it doesn't matter to people who like the talk. Every politician talks a talk, and every politician has their stumbles on walking that walk. You kind of have to when it comes time to making things work with our current system. The question is: does that person generally walk the walk on balance? I see that in Obama. I see that in McCain, although to a lesser degree - the longer this campaign, the more he seems to pander in my eyes. With the VP candidates, that judgment is decidedly more mixed. I feel that Biden is a better supporter of the issues that I care about, but he'd probably sell my interests out in a minute. He's always seemed more concerned with protecting money than working for his citizens. I'd support him (he's pretty solid on foreign affairs) but with some reservations. With Palin, she claims she's against the very thing she really supported. Earmarks seem to be a prime example. Well said... /thread.
