Mariotti cowers when writer confronts him at Wrigley
CanOfCorn replied to palehose23's topic in Alex’s Olde Tyme Sports Pub
Don't know about Cowley, but Telander would drop Jay like a sack of dirt. -
Odd to have Ozuna take Crede's spot in the order. I'm fine with the day off, but Ozuna isn't a 6th place hitter. Weird. He does hit Sabathia well, though, if I remember correctly. Oops...forgot.... GO YOU WHITE SOX!!!

QUOTE (GreatScott82 @ Jun 24, 2008 -> 01:56 PM) It was a very good article.. puts many things into perspective. Our sluggers and pitching have the ability to put together 2 or 3 more 7/8 game winning streaks. However when we dont hit, we can easily lose 3 in a row. When the Sox runs into good pitching, it starts to become more difficult to score runs. This team needs to finally start thinking about manufacturing runs every once in awhile. Unfortanately we really dont have too many players to do such a thing. This is why i want KW to make a push for Willy Taveras. His average maybe a little down this year, but he has 35 SBs and he would change the entire look of our team. Where would he play? Thats the problem, we have no room for him. However, if Thome continues to struggle, i would seriously consider trading him before his option kicks in for next year. Teams like Boston, Angels, or even the Rays could be looking for a DH down the road. This team has pleanty of power w/o Thome in the lineup: Quentin 17HR, Dye 16HR, Crede 15HR, Konerko 8HR, Swisher 8HR. With Taveras leading off a lineup such as this can actually manufacture some runs and switch things up a little bit. Willy Taveras CF Orlando Cabrera SS Carlos Quentin LF Jermaine Dye RF/ DH Paul Konerko DH/1B AJ Pierzynski C Nick Swisher 1B/RF Joe Crede 3B Alexei Ramirez SS These are teams that the Sox could very well be playing in the post-season...so I don't think Kenny would deal with them. Also, I thin the organ-i-zation likes Thome too much to ship him away, if he doesn't want to go. Not saying they shouldn't ship him out, I just don't think it's going to happen. Konerko either.

No Linebrink? I think he deserves a shot.

QUOTE (BaseballNick @ Jun 23, 2008 -> 10:07 PM) I've warmed up to DJ. He's good at what he's there to do and that's be an analyst. I don't think it's fair to criticize his HR calls because he's not a play by play guy, although he's stuck doing play by play when Hawk's in one of his many silent stints during the game. I kinda think it's planned. I believe Wimpy would take PBP duties a couple of innings too. Anyway, I liked Brenly on national broadcasts. He's a smart guy. I think he's forcing liking the Cubs...which for a broadcaster...not so good.
-
funny...except for that part with Len Kasper and Bob Brenly. Yuck. I'm sorry...what? they aren't part of the commercial? Well, they still suck!
-
I'd much rather have a glut of, well, any position, than be strug-a-ling to find someone...ANYONE...that can play a position. Honestly, I think Ramirez has played himself into a spot...and I think he's only going to get better. O-Cab, I believe is gone after this year. this way, you move Alexei to SS, Richar at 2b and give Beckham a couple years to get used to pro ball. DAMN, I'm good!

QUOTE (winninguglyin83 @ Jun 23, 2008 -> 09:59 AM) I couldn't agree more. Getting trainwrecked at Wrigley was the team-wide reminder of Torii Hunter running over Jamie Burke in 04. How this team responds next weekend in their own ball park will tell us much about the second half of the season. That's 8 losses in 9 games to Piniella since he took over. enough to make me question if interleague play is worth it. Here's the thing about interleague play. It isn't worth it, until October. Right now, it's another series...and the Sox were swept. Big deal. Of course it hurts more because it's against the Cubs, but I'd much rather be swept AT Wrigley, during the FIRST interleague series, than being housed this weekend. Now if the Sox are swept this weekend, THAT will leave a bad taste in everyones mouths.

This is just terrible news. I just hope Joe Pesci lets him in to heaven (if there is one and if he even wants to go), cuz Joe Pesci is a guy who can get things done. And the Baseball vs. Football bit has to be my favorite. "In baseball, you go home. I'm going home." Sad, sad day.

Two words...it's June.

QUOTE (RibbieRubarb @ Jun 20, 2008 -> 12:14 PM) But since we are aleady discussing it: http://www.chicagotribune.com/sports/chi-j...0,5300636.story Wow...just...wow. I hope Telander and Cowley aren't taking the high road in the newsroom and just haul off and pop him.

What a gorgeous day to be at my first Sox game in 5 years! And after that horrible top of the 6th, I leaned over to my wife and said, "They are going to come back and win this game..." and BAM! they do just that. Going down to Wrigleyville tomorrow to show my complete absence and mix of all colors (that's black and white, y'know).

6/17 Game Thread: PIT @ CWS, 7:11pm CT

QUOTE (Frankensteiner @ Jun 17, 2008 -> 08:00 PM) I like how someone mentioned earlier that their bottom 5 was pretty terrible. And then they go 4-4 with 3 RBI that inning. Sigh. Jason Michaels is a Sox killer. -
QUOTE (quickman @ Jun 17, 2008 -> 01:25 PM) Actually I would love to see a trade of some sort or bring in lofton. Not to go down this path again repeatedly, but we need some solid help and some new blood. You never know paulie could be out even longer. paulie is not a quick healer. With no konerko and no thome in the lineup against the cubs it may make for a long weekend. not that they were great but they did put some fear in pitchers. Anderson and wise and Uribe do not. Or...the team can rally around this and start winning, which occasionally happens in situations like this.

QUOTE (retro1983hat @ Jun 16, 2008 -> 05:42 PM) I grew up listening to Foley. Just proves what people said for years ... the greatest move the Hawks could make was Dollar Bill not being around at all. As I've said before...I don't like speaking ill of the dead, but you are right 'hat,' no free agent signing, no draft, no amount of fan appreciation could ever help the 'hawks more than the death of Dollar Bill. What happens to Billy Gardner now?

Ill take Kelly Kapowski and Jessie Spano. Although I think I'd add Lisa Turtle into that. Then I'd take my place next to R. Kelly in the hooskow.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jun 9, 2008 -> 06:00 PM) Yes it was a nothing offense, but that doesn't mean it was a nothing offense in the eyes of the team. After the Tank situation, I wouldn't be surprised at all if they sat Benson down and said "This is your only warning, you're on probation, we're not cutting you for this, but we don't want to see you doing anything else that could put yourself in jeopardy. You don't have to break the law, we don't want you being caught without a DD somewhere, or being caught out late at night, or anything." I personally wouldn't have cut him had I not told him that, but if you sat him down, told him that you had a zero tolerance policy for anything, and then 2 weeks later he's caught doing exactly what he promised he wouldn't do, then the team would have no choice. Don't know if this was said later in the thread, but this second offense seriously tanks his argument that he was pulled out on Lake Travis just because he was there, or whatever his argument was going to be. That's the problem I would have if I were the Bears.
-
Thome doesn't need days off...in fact, I would imagine if you did give him a day off, he'd be hitting anyway in the clubhouse. And you don't need to worry about Jim's legs, you need to worry about his back. Paulie just got a cortizone shot, he should feel better for awhile and I bet has offseason surgery. Crede has been doin' alright and one or two days off isn't going to stop a tweak of the back. This is more important after the all-star break, like someone said.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jun 10, 2008 -> 10:14 AM) Sweetest swing I've ever seen. ^^^ Too bad he couldn't stay a little healthier.
