Not to defend Sarah Palin (oooouuuuuch, the cockles of my heart hurt), but she does have a bunch of kids in school, maybe she didn't want to move them? And I may be wrong, but I don't think you can drive or take the train to Juneau from...well...anywhere. I still don't like her, though.

Sonik...I just have one thing to say, since I don't really know you or her, but I wanted to say this. Don't date because SHE'S dating...date because YOU want to date. If you want to meet women, great. If you want to date one of those women, great. But don't do it because your best friend is doing it. Why? Because the woman you might meet at SIU could be Ms. Right. Or Ms. Right Now. But either way, you should go in to any relationship with a clear head, not out of spite (which it doesn't sound like) or to emulate anyone else. It should be on your terms. Just do what YOU are comfortable with. Good luck and study hard.

Media Bias: Perceived or Real? To what extent, and where?
CanOfCorn replied to NorthSideSox72's topic in The Filibuster
QUOTE (Alpha Dog @ Sep 9, 2008 -> 08:31 AM) Expectations play a huge part of that. The media really didn't think the convention would go as well as it did for the republicans, and the bump was alot bigger than they thought. never in their wildest nightmares did they expect to ever have to report that Obama and McCain were TIED! So to them, its news. Keep expecting the floor, occasionally you get hit by the ceiling. (Not you, the media) Polls mean nothing...as a former phone surveyer...depending on who is paying for it...and who's number is called (even though it's random, that doesn't necessarily mean that the computer won't randomly generate a majority of either Dem or Rep households), the numbers can and are usually skewed. That being said, we are all human, even journalists. It is nearly impossible for a normal human being to be COMPLETELY unbiased. Generally, the press has been more liberal. Bottom line, it's on you, the individual to watch ALL the stations you can, read ALL the newspapers and magazines you can, listen to ALL the radio stations you can...and make your own decision. Blaming the media is a complete and total cop out, no matter what side of the aisle you are on. -
Guillen not planning w/ a CQ return in mind
CanOfCorn replied to Princess Dye's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Crede is done...the Sox have a capable defensive player there (well, actually more than capable) in Uribe. CQ has a chance to come back for the playoffs. But I don't think he will. -
Today, they were saying more like Brownsville... Hey Tex...Batten down the hatches, I think it's comin' your way!

Introducing the "new" Oklahoma City NBA franchise
CanOfCorn replied to knightni's topic in Alex’s Olde Tyme Sports Pub
QUOTE (WilliamTell @ Sep 3, 2008 -> 07:02 PM) Is this an NBDL team? Seriously, what a dumb name. Tornadoes would've sounded better and that sucks too. Why not do some sort of Cowboy thing, I know Texas has taken most of those names but I'm sure there's something out there. Oklahoma State University's mascot is the Cowboys. Texas Tech, which is close, is the Red Raiders, which is kinda a cowboy, at least the mascot is. I think they had a great chance to come up with something really cool and this is what they came up with? Meh. -
QUOTE (Steff @ Sep 3, 2008 -> 10:19 PM) I was not a fan of his either, but mainly for me it was the delivery. You are presenting yourself to be the assistant to the leader of the free world and your taking silly pot shots with a smile no less. She seemed extremely arrogant. And while Biden did his share of attacking he was extremely respectful of McCain the entire time. Very well said.

QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Sep 3, 2008 -> 01:17 PM) I'm still waiting to see what your using to back Obama as a better manager. What sort of experience or real life examples are going to back that? I continue to see you talk about him as a motivator. Maybe we should elect Tony Robins to be president? Well, wasn't Reagan called the "Great Communicator?" Nothing wrong with motivating people. You know why? Because people tend to do things when you motivate them. That's called managing. At least last time I checked.

And Wolf Blitzer should be getting a contract offer from Fox News shortly. Stop slobbering over Sarah, Wolfie.

And just when I thought it couldn't get any worse...enter John Rich and his song "Raisin' McCain." My brain hurts.

QUOTE (Athomeboy_2000 @ Sep 3, 2008 -> 10:12 PM) Liek i said, she comes off as snarky in her national debut. I would say more like smarmy than snarky. That speech made me physically sick. And this thing with the singers and Cowboy Troy...yikes...just made me throw up in my mouth a little. Heavy handed, don't you think?

QUOTE (Steff @ Sep 3, 2008 -> 10:07 PM) It is 10 f***ing o'clock. Why is that child not in bed??? Ugh. That is ill. How about that nice little air-kiss to her preggers daughter...that was awkward.

I am officially disgusted. I loathe Sarah Palin.

Looks like New Years was a good day for your parents! Happy Birthday!

bobby Abreu had the same problem until later in the season, when he had time to recover. He didn't play in the heat of Texas and he didn't have slumping players in front of him. The home run derby, while fun, can cause some major problems for people...not tiring problems...timing problems.

QUOTE (Texsox @ Sep 1, 2008 -> 03:50 PM) Doctor Did you use leeches? 500 for sure...pickle...any kind of tag...dodgeball...football...baseball...21...4-square, but only at school.

Angela Lansbury and I say happy birthday, ya'll! And Murder, She Wrote is always on somewhere.

QUOTE (scenario @ Aug 29, 2008 -> 10:52 AM) Petty weak response. Not really, it builds upon Obama's speech last night. I don't feel like reading 8 pages of this, so if any of this is a repeat, I'm sorry. But this seems like an interesting tactic to get some of the disenfranchised Hillary supporters. I do understand the youth and the excitement she may bring, but I don't think I agree with the choice...considering McCain's age. But, we'll see. As someone on the Today Show said, every 20 years the GOP picks someone outside the box...Agnew in '68, Quayle in '88...and the thing is...both won. So, who knows. Should be fun (especially the VP debate).

Talking about non-comps...first of all, I can't imagine any paper in the midwest even going near him. I don't know how a "columnist" could burn bridges in cities he doesn't work in, but I think he did. He's been called out too many times. Second of all, DeLuca's column was friggin' hilarious. You KNOW he has wanted to write something like that for YEARS, but was either told not to, edited out, or was a bigger person. But now...let it out, Chris...let it out! Jay...good luck in your career and I hope you get b****slapped by Woody Paige.

Rockies put Taveras + Fuentes on waivers
CanOfCorn replied to WinningUgly85's topic in The Diamond Club
Waiver blocking is a dangerous game. You have to be prepared to pick that guy up if he makes it to your team. I can't imagine the Sox would want Guardado for any reason, so why block? And here's what Taveras does that's better than anyone on the Sox right now...bunt. You want speed? You got Owens. You want defense? You got BA. You want someone who can move a player over...that would be Taveras. But that certainly isn't enough to pick him up.
