QUOTE(hitlesswonder @ Jun 21, 2007 -> 08:29 AM) 1 top prospect would be a victory. As one of the posts above noted, Minaya isn't willing to trade Milledge alone for a rental. I would expect the return for Buehrle to be one B prospect and a project (like Gio and Floyd). In fact, that would be a victory. Then I say, hang on to him and take the comp picks for him. Basically any deal that includes Buehrle should be better than what they could get in the draft next year. Make it worth the White Sox' while. If it's equal to what they could get in the 2008 draft, then hang up the phone. JMO. Especially since Buehrle is probably going to be the best pitcher on the market, durable and a lefty.

Somebody re-hire Tim Raines to teach this team to run the bases.

QUOTE(Kalapse @ Jun 20, 2007 -> 03:04 PM) Kenny should pick up his $5M option for next season immediately following today's game. I bet Juan signs about 5 inches above the "X."
-
Do my eyes deceive me or is Juan 3-3 today?

QUOTE(knightni @ Jun 20, 2007 -> 02:57 PM) Probably true. What name should you get for your lack of grammar and spelling abilities? Gahd.

QUOTE(Kalapse @ Jun 20, 2007 -> 02:50 PM) I'll do a google search in a minute but in the mean time I can explain. First thing's first, Pods and Erstad were both going to see substantial DL time this year, that much was guaranteed, I figured we'd be seeing both on the DL by mid May (I was off a bit). There was a week left in ST and Terrero was tearing the s*** out of the ball and since Ozzie loves him I figured he'd make the team out of ST and take over for Erstad in CF when he went down. With Pods hitting the DL the most logical callup (KW/Oz logic) would be Owens who would be seeing substantial time in LF and leading off since he's a lefty, a real outfielder and very fast whereas Ozuna is an infielder and bats right handed (a platoon would be in order). You figure Jermaine with his many small injuries would be in need of some days off during the summer months and Rob Mackowiak is the only real option for RF so right there you get an outfield of Owens/Terrero/Mack. You have to remember, I f***ing hated the way this outfield was put together in the offseason, i wasn't anywhere near as optimistic as some when it came to the potential of this old, injury prone mess. Touché.

QUOTE(Kalapse @ Jun 20, 2007 -> 02:41 PM) Actually I predicted with a week left in spring training that we'd be seeing that exact outfield by July. Alright...you show me the proof. C'mon, there's no way.

QUOTE(briguy27 @ Jun 20, 2007 -> 02:33 PM) we get the guy over, then cintron gets the backwards K come on paulie, get juany in Doesn't look like they are messing around with Paulie with 1B open.
-
Alright, so who on this board ever thought at the beginning of the year we would see an outfield of Owens-Terrero-Mackowiak? And if you did, you are lying. QUOTE(Dick Allen @ Jun 20, 2007 -> 02:30 PM) I think Crede will be much better after surgery. He may not be back to 2006 numbers, but maybe a shade lower. Fields has been good recently, but could be humbled very quickly. He needs to shorten his stroke. If he can do that, then the Sox don't have to worry about 3b for a while. He needs to be like Hunter Pence. He's getting a steady diet of breaking balls now, but he's being patient and taking what he's given. MAN, I wish we could have gotten him.

Dear Jerry Owens, Bunt. Love, The Corn Thank you.

QUOTE(klaus kinski @ Jun 20, 2007 -> 02:23 PM) Fields has really been getting better by day-2 big hits in 2 days. No one on this team has done that for weeks I will be at your house later picking up your dogs. They deserve better. At least put the Sox on their junk.

Miscellaneous "White Sox" Trade Notes

QUOTE(Jenks Heat @ Jun 20, 2007 -> 10:27 AM) What if they were scouting Danks? -
QUOTE(DBAH0 @ Jun 20, 2007 -> 08:57 AM) He said he would try to play thru it IIRC. Really an important time in terms of his future over the next couple of weeks. He need to stay healthy, because he's finally starting to come around with the bat. With the Pads trading for Barrett today though, maybe it's a sign the market is starting to pick up though. Maybe Dye needs to start some clubhouse scrums? Perhaps coldcock an opposing player? That might get him out of here quicker.

QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Jun 20, 2007 -> 07:34 AM) So it seems like 5 years 80 million is the concensus... Now will people be OK if Mark leaves for more money and years? I agree with Phil Rogers on this...if he is offered a Zito-type deal...then good luck with aaaallllll that. Thanks for the memories and we'll see you when you come through town. But if they can't sign him for 5/85 (very top end) then no, I won't be pissed.

I'm not surprised at all. Javy's stuff can be filthy. If he could focus, he'd be a top 25 ML pitcher.
-
QUOTE(dasox24 @ Jun 19, 2007 -> 06:32 PM) Oh, it definitely does make things more interesting. I like what the Dodgers' farm system has to offer, and now that they need a SP and a bat, both of which we could give, they seem like a perfect team to deal with. Billingsley is now out of the question in any trade. I would say that the Dodgers will go for a Trachsel type player.

QUOTE(Beltin @ Jun 19, 2007 -> 05:35 PM) Can you field a competitive team without Mark? How about without Mark and with Jose and Javy in the rotation? I believe the Sox will remain competitive for years if they hang onto Buehrle, Garland and Danks for as long as possible. Those two veterans are going to continue to provide stability and leadership while Danks is really showing the guts and smarts to have a nice career in baseball barring injuries. They might not be as talented or overpowering as the Braves staffs of the 90s, but they are all still very young and would keep the Sox in contention year in and year out. I contend in the long run the Sox can not afford to let Buerhle leave. It will cost them far more in intangibles that will result in poorer sales at the gate. I agree with you whole heartedly...until the poorer sales at the gate. I might even add Vazquez as your #4 starter. Buehrle, Garland, Danks and Vazquez is a pretty good rotation.

Terry Hoeppner passed away this morning

This is just awful. Prayers to his family and the entire IU family. -
QUOTE(southsideirish71 @ Jun 18, 2007 -> 10:47 PM) When when Steve Traschel is listed as the next best pitcher on the market, we are definately in the drivers seat. A guy like Mark, who eats up innings and can dominate the NL and is battle tested. Demand will be high, and unlike a few years ago, there will be only a few difference makers on the market. Why aren't we giving him his contract again? /green (sorta)

More detailed article on the KW/Ozzie/PK meeting
CanOfCorn replied to fathom's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE(Dick Allen @ Jun 19, 2007 -> 01:36 PM) Its the middle ground thats maddening. I'm sure fathom would be as happy as anyone here if the Sox turned it around and made the playoffs. But if they turned it around and missed by 5 games, it would have been a wasted opportunity to get something for someone you are going to lose. These moral victories are old. Last year when the Sox came back against Houston I think and scored 8 runs or something like that in the 9th only to lose in extra innings, people were giddy. They lost. Its black and white, no gray area. Playoffs or bust. KW would be a fool to hold onto Buerhle, Dye and whoever else isn't in the plans just to pad a win total that won't be good enough to play on after 162 games. You have to remember that the White Sox fanbase is a lot wider than the smart ones on this board. We, for the most part are good, smart BASEBALL fans. But, KW has to think about the damage to PR. If they are playing well, getting back to .500, why not make a run for it? The A's have lost a lot of talent to free agency and they just keep plugging away and winning. This team is built around pitching, so, to me, you trade Dye, you trade Iguchi and you trade Contreras, if you can. You KEEP young, durable, proven LH pitchers and build around him. I see Buehrle as a poor man's Glavine. He doesn't have any outstanding pitches, but he has good control. If he wants to, he can pitch into his 40's. I think I would want someone like that locked up for 5 of those years. -
QUOTE(RockRaines @ Jun 15, 2007 -> 10:02 AM) In his prime he was unstoppable. He would jack one out, or get on base. Either way, you were f***ed. He was incredible. Even if he singled, you might have well just waved him over to 2nd because he WAS going to steal on you. Possibly even 3rd. Best base-stealer I have ever seen.
-
QUOTE(kwolf68 @ Jun 18, 2007 -> 08:54 AM) Yea...facts... Like these his averages the last 3 years have been .266, .247, and .234. OBP last 3 years: .388 .387 .365 Markedly better than anyone we have.
-
QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Jun 18, 2007 -> 12:47 PM) Pretty affordable relative to other players at his position does not necessarily equate to pretty affordable for this team in its current situation. No, that is true, I was just saying that his contract isn't ridiculous. And personally, a rotation of Buehrle, Garland, Vazquez, Danks and either Gio/Floyd/Masset is still pretty good.
-
QUOTE(chisoxfan79 @ Jun 17, 2007 -> 06:13 PM) I agree with everything your saying and I think KW should shop the count if you can find a good enough trade for him do it, Javy I don't know what to do he is untradeable because of the ridiculous contract KW gave him so I guess were stuck with him If you can trade Jose call up Floyd give him a go for 2 months Ridiculous contract? Vaz is an average to above-average pitcher who gives you innings and a great K/BB ratio. The only thing bad I can say about him is he loses focus at times. But, considering the other contracts that have been doled out to pitchers recently (see: Zito, Barry), Javy is pretty affordable.

Miscellaneous "White Sox" Trade Notes
CanOfCorn replied to Kalapse's topic in Sox Baseball Headquarters
QUOTE(kwolf68 @ Jun 18, 2007 -> 07:52 AM) Again, Dunn and the White Sox makes no sense. Dunn is a quintesential "sell off" piece from a team going nowhere. He should be traded to a team one power stick away from making a run, which the White Sox are not. Depends on the other moves the Sox make. I would be a little nervous if the Sox have a weak hitting outfield. Having a solid core is a good thing and AJ is not a 3rd hole hitter. I'm not saying they should get Dunn, I'm saying, it may be a good idea depending on how many people they trade away.
